updated "Used for Quests" with discription of what to do with the shred Jonnyo 22:47, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Is it still obtainable? I've given her around 10 flowers I think but no tapestry shred. Etienne 12:02, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

A flute and cape are needed as well as 5 flowers. Again, this is all in pre-searing. You also need to complete the quest to get her broken flute as well. I have reverted your changes for these reasons. --Grash 14:28, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I just tested this and all it took was for me to give her 5 flowers. I had completed her broken flute quest and didn't even have the other items in my inventory. Doll 19:49, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
It said just flowers was enough as Doll says (and I always just gave her flowers and got the tapestry shred), I must have gotten some bug again. Etienne 22:35, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Is there any other way to obtain this? I got the Shred a looooong time ago but got rid of it because I had no space =s. Eruedraith 20:24, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I gave her 14 Flowers and didn't get anything. But I didn't do the Flute quest either. Does that affect it at all? 72.81.247.139 23:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Check if Gwen is already using the cape+flute model. If it does, then it's bugged for you. Happends if you group with someone that already did the quests (and got his shred), or if you are a monk, iirc.--Fighterdoken 23:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Bugged yet again?[edit]

I don't know if anyone else has eben tried it, because it shouldn't be possible, but I got it on one of my Prophicies characters and put it in my bank. A little while later, on my dervish I pulled it out and gave it to Gwen in the HoM. I got the same message as the one everyone else gets, and started the quest! A bug perhaps? Perhaps further research is needed, but I might be able to take a screen of my quest log next to my char so there is some proof. Steve 04:03, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. She did accept the Shred, but it initiated the quest Fire and Pain instead. I still find it wierd though when a Dervish knew Gwen "a long time ago". 2 different lands completely o.O. Anyway, just thought I would bring this up in case anyone else was confused as I was. ===========================[edit]

Wtf, ive given her like 20 flowers, 5 at once, and i have cape and flute and the wont take or give anything. Thats messed up. Teh Eviscerator 22:31, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Talk to her without the flowers in your inventory and she should take the other items.Talk page Drogo Boffin 02:49, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Anomoly?[edit]

I am not sure about this anomoly because I have gotten the shread from her with flowers in my inventory and not having to give them all to her first.Talk page Drogo Boffin 02:49, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Can you provide more details? What have you given her to win favor? I've been experimenting heavily and have never received the shred if there are still flowers in the inventory. (You don't have to give all irises to her; dropping the extras allows her to offer you the shred dialogue.) Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford 03:01, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I had exactly 3 flowers in my inv. + bought flute (after giving her broken) and all went fine... She took flute, played, then took all 3 flowers 1 by 1 and then gave me the shred... I even didnt know she gonna give me something =) So it went all fine... User:85.132.151.253 meant, of course, to use 4 tildes to sign their post
Yes, that is exactly what I would predict. She takes broken flute -> new flute -> flowers one-at-a-time. Tennessee Ernie Ford 14:46, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) After heavy experimentation (100s of new toons) by myself and others, we cannot reproduce the situation where Gwen does not give you the shred after giving her broken flute, new flute, and then 3 irises one-at-a-time. You can win favor by giving her more flowers (and less of something else), throwing in the cape, and so forth, but we've never been able to set things up so she doesn't give you the shred.

We have been able to reproduce the bug (if someone in party already got a shred), although we didn't experiment with that substantially. As mentioned in the article, she will keep on taking flowers as long as you want to give them to her; you do have to drop them and talk to her one more time to get the shred.

If you are having trouble getting a shred, it's easier to either (a) create a new toon; (b) visit eotn outpost, LA, or Kamadan to trade for one, or (c) not worrying about — use a substitute item to initiate dialogue and quests.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:29, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Bug note up to date?[edit]

Alternatively, you can simply ignore the shred; it can be easily replaced by other items in order to satisfy quest requirements. Is this still true if you want to do Then and Now? Hold Me Closer, Necromancer 08:33, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

3 or 4 flowers[edit]

I gave her the broken flute and then bought her a new one. I then proceeded to give her 3 irises and talked to her again; she did not give me the shred. I then gave her a 4th iris (an amount that is also frequently quoted) and talked to her again, and got the shred. I noticed, however, that when talking to Gwen, in addition to bringing up the dialog it also sets her follow/wait mode. I wonder if the reason it sometimes takes 4 flowers is because of the state she is in when you talk to her, i.e. she will only give the shred when following OR waiting. If that is the case, the 4th flower would be unnecessary, and you would just have to talk to her one more time (i.e. the second time after the 3rd flower) to toggle her behavior. I'll try to verify this on my next pre-searing run unless someone cares to do it first. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer 01:49, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Is the bug unbugged?[edit]

The viral bug, that is. I have a character who either did the whole lot ages ago (and sent his shred to post) or infected himself with the viral bug, again ages ago. But now he has reached level 20, still in pre, and he was able to go out and (a) do the broken flute quest and (b) get the shred. Interesting, no? Cynique 12:02, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

My supposition, by the way, is that they fixed it up so that if you go out without a shred in your inventory, Gwen will revert to being able to be bribed into giving you a new shred. Most people who get a shred don't go out and about without it until they leave pre-Searing, whereupon they leave it in their zunly box. (Yes, I know it's mis-spelled, but that's how I normally pronounce it.) Cynique 14:57, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
