Great Destroyer = Gwen??? Why not? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:201.9.197.153 .

Because there's absolutely no evidence, maybe? An innocent girl doesn't become an epic villain without a very good motive. I could just as easily say Lady_Althea is the Great Destroyer.--onoes! Mafaraxas 21:04, 6 May 2007 (EDT)

Great Destroyer[edit]

Spoiler alert: The following text contains spoilers relating to the story of Eye of the North.

what? This doesnt make any sense at all, why did the "great destroyer" wake up when nobody read the tome of rubicon? For that matter where is the tome of rubicon? Why was "the great destroyer" such a push-over? From a lore point of view, the whole eotn story line doesnt make any sense. What the hell is that huge statue? Answers!! I demand spoilers for gw2! --Lou-SaydusUser Lou-Saydus Hail Storm.jpg 19:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

What you don't realize what the real Great destroyer is? And btw You can read form the tome of rubicon. Its saying the Great destroyer's True name that wakes him.. ~ Zero rogue x 09:22, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Or the Great Dwarf's true name, saying either one is supposed to set the final battle in motion. I have a feeling that the Dwarves used his true name in that ritual. -- Gordon Ecker 23:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that. Otherwise the world would have ended a few hundred times in just the past year if that was the case (the great dwarf is shown to be Droknar). --70.51.121.212 21:22, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually,I think there is mention in either EN, or the Sorrow's Furnace quest that naming either the Great Dwarf, or the Great Destroyer would destroy the world. Yukiko User Yukiko Sig.png 21:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Zelda[edit]

does anyone else see a strong resemblence of the end boss from Zelda - Minish Cap in the cave of flames? it's exactly the same strange creature, and in the Third Vision, it even spits out those flames just as in the zelda game. of course, in zelda it's sitting in its lava pit, so you can't see its legs. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 19:58, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that as well. the resembelence is quite striking, to say the least. be interesting if we had to defeat the great destroyer in the same way.... User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 02:45, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
nope, it's a stupid bare-hit fight. zelda is so much more interesting when it comes to that :P - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 13:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
I beg to differ, I think physically The Great Destroyer has nothing in common with Gleerok. In fact, their only similar characteristics are that they are both lava dwellers. If we're comparing them on that sole fact, then obviously The Great Destroyer resembles The Great Dodongo. Hey! They both have The Great in their name!!! Oh, I was being sarcastic. --ChristopherRodrigues 17:34, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Really A God?[edit]

"Primordus was the first of the ancient dragons to awaken, calling his servants from their slumber. With his breath, he twisted earth and stone, shaping creatures and giving them life. Although the death of the Great Destroyer, his most powerful general, set back the dragon's awakening by two generations, Primordus once again rose to create ever more minions far beneath the ground. To this day, he continues to spread his power throughout the deep caverns beneath Tyria." Doesn't that mean he isn't a god, only a powerful monster made by a Dragon?--TimOfDoom 16:04, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Balthazar's general maybe...Great destroyer is Primordious's general, Dragons have the same strength as a god (or hopefully a lot more, abbadon was pitiful) and a God Level Creature's general should not qualify as a godKiller Revan 23:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I think the point is not that he was actually a god, but that the dwarfs revered to him as the god of evil. Much like the Unseen Ones Rhydeble 07:56, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
I think we should just stick with the true 5 gods in the navbox. — Eloc 05:38, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I think the navbox should include all current and former members of the main pantheon (in other words the five plus Abaddon, Dhuum and the Goddess of Truth). -- Gordon Ecker 11:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, Abaddon was a god, but he was such a pushover because, don't forget, he was chained down and had limited power. He was weakened by being exiled for so long, otherwise he wouldn't need any help getting out. Kormir and Dhuum on the other hand, are not gods. Kormir was given "god-like qualities/abilities", despite the fact that they call her Goddess of truth. I'd say, at the most, she's an immortalized martyr. Dhuum was the god of Death, but then was overthrown by Grenth. Doesn't that imply that he is no longer a god? Let's see... if you're the God of america, then you get overthrown, then you're no longer god of anything, right? I'd say he was severely weakened by grenth, and became, let's say, a "lesser god." Oh, boy, I wish they made like a expansion where you could relive the past when the Gods were still in Tyria. --ChristopherRodrigues 17:40, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

BUG[edit]

Here's a bug I discovered last night - when the destroyer sinks into the larva, summoning ebon vangard assassins (I used 2x L21 assassins with signet of illusions and arcane echo), will break its invulnerability, causing it to take damage.

how, exactly? you mean you just use that skill and he's vulnerable again, or you summon the assassin and it can attack the destroyer? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 15:04, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok to clear this up, the reason the Destroyer becomes vulnerable to damage is because the Ebon Vanguard Assassin causes a knockdown. 90.218.142.213 17:22, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

A minor tip is to try and interrupt Lava Ground (see skill) and Lava Wave (heals).[edit]

I don't think this is a good tip. I brought Zho into my party and she said interupting just makes it madder, so use them wisely.--§ Eloc § 02:13, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Enraged Blast Is A Self-Kill[edit]

Just defeated him with heroes and henchies using no special builds. Simply put Pain Inverter on him and DO interrupt his skills whenever you can - I am R5 Asura and, when he used it, the yellow 80s were flying out of him like crazy. User eldin sig.jpg Eldin 19:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Is there an actual reason he's killable? There was for abbadon, but there hasn't been anything offered here.--142.22.186.7 17:41, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

The Great Destroyer doesn't really have a reason not to be killable. It's a threat because it co-ordinates the other destroyers, without its' guidance, they're mindless beasts. It's also bigger and stronger than the other destroyers. As for the Tome of the Rubicon and dwarven beliefs about the Great Destroyer, they don't need to be accurate, the Prophecies manual's line about the Great Giants established that mainstream human beliefs about the age and origin of Tyria are wrong, the Nightfall manual established that the traditional account of the events surrounding the Exodus had a significant omission. There's also quite a bit of deception and misinterpretation in the Prophecies plotline. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 03:21, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

The name of the song you are referring to is actually called "The Great Destroyer" and I actually think that there may be a minor reference to that song because the 1st quest for EotN is also called "The Beginning of the End" wish is also a song on the same album (Year Zero). --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.136.215.141 (talk).

You do know how common that phrase is? Anything dealing with some apocalyptic story will have that phrase. It's as commonly used as the concept of Satan signing contracts for your soul. If not more so. -- Konig/talk 00:05, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Easiness[edit]

I think that the great destroyer wasn't MEANT to be powerful, since he was hidden in a secluded area where no one would have looked unless they had a scrying pool. *winkwink* Plus, all through his battle with you he was devoting part of his mind to controlling the Destroyers, which is his primary strength. Add that to the fact that he had just recently woken up, and that most of his leigons were so far away that he couldn't call them to him, it makes perfect sense that he was so easy. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Calvar Shockheart (talk).

Hello?[edit]

Am I alone in feeling that being able to kill the most prominent end game boss with a 55 is complete bullshit? Why did we play through all these shitty missions to build golems and get Norn allies if Mr. Gold Farmer Monk can just hop in and kill a god of destruction? EOTN certainly did expand the game with more locations for solo farmers and runners to 1 2 3 their way to obsidian on every character and a set of eternal tonics. Do you care about this game you're making or are you only making it to meet the deadlines and get your paychecks? Prophecies end game was good because you actually needed a full team, or close to a full team even if it was henchmen. Factions end game was awful, awful beyond words. Why did you make it EASIER for only one person to win? Nightfall was close to excellent, you figured out how to build bosses without resorting to the "Is this a boss?" check-box. And EOTN is just sad, the entire game and its plot builds you up for some epic encounter but as soon as you zone into the CTC outpost: "RUNNING ATFH HM 50K INVITE SELF 5 MINUTES!!". Instead of: "GLF MONKS AND DPS TO PLAY THE GAME". Are we going to be killing Primordus with whatever solo build you guys insert into GW2? It's not that I hate soloing. I hate pathetic end-game missions/dungeons/areas that enable slobs to pay their way through the game. No this doesn't mean "nerf 55/sf/etc." it means re-think downing that 5th cup of coffee and start making end-game content that's actually daunting rather than "Cool I can make money here!" The last thing on your mind in the middle of a Destroyer nest should be money. FFS 68.193.113.198

Although you ranted about this sometime ago, "50k self invite" and it is now down to 2k HM, 1k NM, i agree with you. This is the same as oblivion, you spent the whole story line "rounding up the troops" forming a great army against a greater army. And then it just turns out to be just you and your chosen heroes/hench. I was hoping for big mobs, and for you to have 5 norn, 5 asura, 5 dwarves, 5 ebon vanguards. And mobs of 30-35, that would kick ass.
That sounds cool but it's still a cop-out. "Bigger mobs bigger parties". Something original and unique like Abaddon would've been nice. 65.40.196.108
all they need to do is force destroyer of deeds to always be there instead of the /resign if deeds business MrPaladin talk 14:20, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe you missed it, but for quite some time you could solo Abaddon too. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 12:33, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
What the original poster is missing is that *everything* in GW can be done solo by almost any profession. The nerfs that would have to take place to make PvE in this game challenging would take months, or even years. A-net has so completely screwed up skill ballance and failed in every attempt of forsight into what players will exploit next that the game is easy and can be done with little effort. It's not really A-net's fault though, they are working against every caffine addicted person who plays over 12 hours a day. When hundreds of thousands of people are working to find exploits and loopholes in the mechanics, there's simply no stopping them. And no matter how hard you try, some people are *so* intent on getting elite armor and weapons to show off and look "leet" that they will always be thinking "cool, I can make money here" and there's just no fixing it.75.121.83.113 19:25, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
