Doing UW with Heroes[edit]

First, I know I'm risking getting a few cool story bro replies, and I accept that risk.

Today we have completed UW in normal mode with a 2 player 6 hero team setup. It wasn't easy, but it isn't that difficult either once you know how to handle all of the quests (which we didn't have a very thorough idea about in the last few tries/wipes).

The team setup was:

  • Me, a sword warrior with the generic PvE skills (not optimal for UW)
  • My brother with his RoJ monk with Summon Ruby Djinn, Assassin Support and Vampirism
  • 3 Spiritway heroes (MM-protector, SoS-healer, SoGM spirit spawner)
  • 2 RoJ monk heroes with some healing capabilities
  • 1 earth magic anti-melee ele hero with Eruption, Ward Against Melee, Unsteady Ground, etc.

The quests themselves are not particularly difficult aside from The Four Horseman if you know how to pull mobs correctly and where to stand with your heroes in order to defend essential NPCs. In Four Horseman, we started off by placing spirits to 2 of the 4 spawn locations in order to delay the attacking groups. Then, we accepted the quest and proceeded to kill the remaining two groups quickly, I took out the west side mobs with my Spiritway team, and my brother killed the east side mobs with the RoJ team. We have been overwhelmed eventually, but we had weakened them and regrouped near the Reaper, from where we finished them off as they arrived. With some experience, I believe this tactic can be rather reliable.

Dhuum himself was not that difficult as the healers could keep up with the damage he did to the party once we had all heroes nicely spread out in the center of his sanctum. We used a conset here for safety, but it should be manageable without one as well. It is important to take out all of his summoned minions quickly. If a hero dies or reaches 60% DP during the battle they are immediately resurrected in ghost form. Heroes in ghost form automatically use the Encase Skeletal skill which can cause your party to be overwhelmed, so it is important to manually disable it each time a hero turns into a ghost. If a hero in ghost form is killed, it cannot be resurrected and will stay dead for the rest of the fight - this is true for players too.

If you find any of the tactics or information I have discussed here useful, feel free to make use of them in your future UW runs. Keep in mind that UW is the most difficult elite area in Guild Wars and even if you do know every quest inside and out, you may still be sent back to town a couple of times before finally going through. --Adul 00:37, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Ice Elementals[edit]

I don't know where this bug would go... on this page? on the ice elementals page? on the nightman cometh page? Anyways the bug is that 50-75% of the time the 4 ice elementals at the hall of judgment either spawn or are teleported some huge distance below the floor... User Skykingcst Bugged Ice Elementals.jpg

Just a little humour[edit]

Hey You Guys going in Underworld, would you please remove your weapons and busted armour from the creatures after battle so when other people go in they don't end up with your crappy gear.Thank you.Indifferent Omnivore 22:47, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

The real secret is, when all of our characters finally die, our eternity will be spent cleaning up the Underworld and recycling all the crap drops into children's toys. Guildwarsrunner 04:28, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

What does "T3" mean??[edit]

what does it mean? I want to know... >< The preceding unsigned comment was added by GreenEarth28 (talk • contribs) at 17:27, 7 February 2011 (UTC).

It's one member of this team build, I believe. G R E E N E R 01:54, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Wrong greener, you're posting on the Underworld page and you linked to a fissure build.. its this: T3 --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 10:51, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Drop rate of rare items and appearance of chests[edit]

Two reasons to why I think The Underworld isn't worth a run is the unbelievable low drop rate of rare items and the obviously and almost nonexistent appearance of Phantom Chests. I can't remind myself have becoming rich after a farm run down there, unless I have been lucky to find one or two ectos. Another reason is the enviroment that makes me somewhat bored. Well, I haven't abandoned the idéa of beating the whole area someday - more like a painful prestige project than a fun expedition with lots of treasures found. I would be greatful if someone could name a few weapons that are typical for that area. --Kram 10:48, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Wiped because Reaper of the Chaos Planes died[edit]

Yeah, I'm sure plenty of people have wiped because of the reaper dying, but this is a bit unusual I think.

When I decided to be "smart" and kill the group of terrorweb dryders near the chaos planes statue from a cliff, I ended up screwing myself over because the reaper spawned along with a dozen foes who swiftly killed him which resulted in me obviously failing. So, the next time you see those terrorweb dryders, make sure you're close enough to deal with anything that might spawn on top of the reaper as well. Pjwned 07:25, 5 August 2011 (UTC) at least that was the first area outside of the labyrinth that I went to so it could've been worse.

Correction[edit]

"Successfully completing all of the quests in a single session once will unlock a statue in the Hall of Monuments and allow each party member to open the Underworld Chest once."

This is no longer true since the Dhuum update where you have to beat Dhuum before the chest will appear. I'm changing it accordingly. 82.95.85.186 20:19, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Coldfire bug[edit]

If the coldfires kill you whenever your inside the hall of judgment. You'll become spirit, and need to walk back to the hall of judgment from vale(gates are just open). 82.161.39.143 20:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Single-Player[edit]

Okay experts, how do-able is the Underworld in NM or HM (and FOW, for that matter) as 1 human player with 7 heroes? I'd like to earn a HOM statue, but I'm not experienced enough to get in on a Speed Clear team - not that I'd really want to anyway. Is there any hope for players like myself? Are there any team/build/strategy recommendations for the single-player approach, or is KidWAY the only way to earn a statue now days? -Ninjatek 16:14, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

UW: Well I've gotten once to dhumm with 7 heroes (nm) in about an hour and a half, I was running a prot monk hero though and not a ST hero - with a ST rit you should be ok at the end particularly, just bear in mind dhumm fucking hurts heroes a lot. Otherwise, you can clear 4 horsemen with all your spirits tanking and slowing one side while you clear the other. Unwanted guests can be messy but if you take it slowly you will be fine.
FoW: Takes about 80 minutes total in NM, and you'll encounter some groups with two healers, and the abyssals will hurt. gotta have vague ideas about quest spawns etc, like managing the Gift of Griffons quest. [You can do manlyspike Fowsc very easily (possibly as A/D VoS if sin is your main) - just follow MoP calls.] FoW quests are much easier than UW ones.--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 16:20, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
fow nm is pretty faceroll, a lot of enemies are stupidly weak, like the shadow beasts that cast dark pact for 10 damage, if your team has a good amount of defense (imbagon, smite monks, sos resto rit, dedicated prot monk, mm with prots, etc, pick two and add a proper healer) you can pull a bunch of guys at once and aoe them down fairly easily, the worst part is probably going to be pulling at the wailing lord so make sure you have a longbow or flatbow of some kind (/bonus works well) and after that the annoying part is gooing to be the skeletal bonds, so make sure you have a mesmer with shatter enchant, as for uw i've honestly never done it with just heroes so I can't be sure about there 24.130.140.36 16:40, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Good tips, thanks. I assume the FOW and Underworld HOM statues are character-based, and not account based, correct? If so, I'd be doing this with my "main" character - a Ranger - so having an Imbagon on my team wouldn't be an option. :\ -Ninjatek 16:50, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
For the purposes of HoM gw2, it doesn't matter which character you achieve them on. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 17:29, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
So UW and FOW statues are account-based, then? Thanks for the info. -Ninjatek 17:34, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
No, they are toon-based. 75.36.177.73 17:38, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
you earn them on each character individually, but in gw2, it only matters if any character on your account has earned them, and rangers can bring sy barrage, its probably worse than going daggers but its an option to consider 24.130.140.36 17:42, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
All HoM statues can be account-based... you just need to set your HoM (of that character) to account based, rather than character based. :D Konig/talk 17:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Cool. I just wanted to make sure that if I did UW with character B, it will still count on the HOM reward calculator for character A -Ninjatek 18:42, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
yeah, the reward calculator is account-based, anything you do for it on any of your charascters should affect all of your gw2 characters, the only sort of exception is gwamm, which has another gw2 reward 24.130.140.36 19:04, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Ecto Drop Rate[edit]

Have Ectos been completely nerfed from UW or has the drop rate simply gone through the floor. Have been in to the underworld 6 times now, with friends, with heroes, even solo to see if the drop rate improved and all I got was 1 (one) Ecto, any info, polite suggestions or comments welcome, lol Lady Elyssa 19:00, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Is it an explorable area or a mission?[edit]

Seeing how it has mission objectives? Chicken 1.jpg Magamdy 11:12, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Quests available[edit]

I've edited this section so the quest order isn't misleading, but it still seems somewhat redundant to have this section AND "Mission objectives" listing all the quests. Is there a wiki convention requiring both of those sections to exist? The same issue is on the Fissure of Woe page. Mist Y (talk) 11:39, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
