Hall Of Judgement[edit]

Who is anticipating fighting a new god, in an area previously inaccessable, and in a fight that perma builds wont help? And what do you think will be the primary methods of killing him? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.15.196.5 (talk).

Yes, doubtful (skills mention spirit resurrection in the vale), definitely, snare (possibly the ebon vanguard signet) + "Can't touch this" sounds like the best options so far. Blood Red Giant User Blood Red Giant sig.jpg Mani Mortus 13:17, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

That just proves he MUST be back there. I mean, have you ever seen a block of concrete emit that much light? NO! Thus, the only REASONABLE explanation is that a godlike being MUST be bound by an invisible force in such a way that he can't be seen and fits within the limited space behind those beautiful, towering doors. My Burning Question[edit]

A bunch of my toons have the quest, but the world doesn't have favor right now, anyone know if I can finish it with the Voice of Grenth after updating, or should I avoid updating 'til we get favor again so I can finish this stuff up? 216.167.213.148 01:59, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

A little Harsh[edit]

Its a pain that we have to wait and all but what if someone doesnt have the quest. what if they werent able to obtain it.? DOes that mean they cant now complete it? Or participate? (May have been covered but still valid surely)--Nataliexxx 12:58, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

If it works like other quests, as long as someone has the quest in your party you can participate. They won't be able to get the reward however. M3G User M3G Pumpkin.png 13:03, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
For a few cases, you won't be allowed into the quest zone if anyone in the party does not have the quest. A possibility, but I've seen nothing to indicate this will be the case here. Backsword 13:38, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Sigh, I have to admit people complaining about daft things never ceases to amaze me. This is a FESTIVAL quest, which I hasten to add said festival ended about 5 days ago. All festival quests are time barred when it comes to accepting them and always have been and always should be (this is akin to people complaining about getting no hat because they weren't on the day they were given out). As it stands for completion of said quest, well clearly it is the voice of grenth or some other such NPC which grants the quest reward in this instance. (which is obvious if you consider the fact that the quest cannot advance until after the quest giver has buggered off, thus clearly one does not gain the quest reward from the quest giver in this instance) Also as said above those who don't have the quest may indeed by able to patriciapte in the quest but they wont get any reward for doing so. That however is not harsh as the OP put it, it's simply the nature of time limited quests and complaining about it shows a complete lack of understanding of how GW opertates and always has operated in regards to festival quests. Most of the wiki is already having to put up with people moaning about the quest not advancing yet, can we please not add complaints about established festival quest practice to the heap? -- Salome User salome sig2.png 13:28, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes. Or maybe just the reward. NO ONE KNOWS (except the people that made it)! The quest was around for quite awhile, though, so try reading Salome's post. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 14:36, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
opps can't believe i miss that haha, i agree with the way how quests work but i just hope maybe they will let those that didn't get the quest to particpate in someway. no rewards is better then being left out of something new 220.255.161.129 14:45, 10 November 2009 (UTC)halfnode
Wow, Salome...
""Festival ended 5 days ago""
""This is a festival quest""
Nice. Also are we implying the return of Dhuum is only worth as much as a weekend festival? I agree with how you view festival events, but the way I see things, quest 1-4 was our once-in-a-lifetime treat (unlimited ToT works) and now we're shifting to a heavier scene. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 18:36, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I'd have to agree with Aliceandsven on this one. While I acknowledge that your response is well thought-out and logical, I would think that the heavy impact that this quest will have on Guild Wars cannon ought to at least warrent a little more consideration than a passing festival quest. Now, Anet might not see it that way, and they're under no duty to do so, but the return of the original god of death is not a mearly "festival event;" it's a world-shattering event with severe implications for all of Tyria (assuming that Dhuum isn't promply put down by the hordes and hordes of PCs waiting at his door).140.209.60.229 19:52, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I actually don't understand why this was stapled to Halloween. This is campaign-level business, I think. Unless we're all in for some big joke. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ аІiсә User Aliceandsven 1.png ѕνәи Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ 21:02, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
To clarify the quest has been offered by a festival NPC, thus it is indeed a festival quest, as its time limited nature has shown. Now I would also like to point out that this quest did not need the 3 proceeding quests to be done, for this to be taken and thus there is nothing to say that the following quests in relation to this one will have the proceeding festival quests as a necessity. Simply put the waiting game itself is a festival quest, but that doesn't mean that any subsequent quest will be or that any subsequent quest will require completion of the previous festival quests. I would also like to point out that this quest chain makes perfect sense for halloween if you view it in relation to the actual lore about halloween, the thinning of the barriers between the our world and the afterworld and so on and so forth, is a clear parallel to what is happening with Dhuum. I hope this helps people and put's some minds at rest as basically we don't know til the next quest if this quest is needed to continue the fight against Dhuum, however my guess is that one doesn't need it. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 21:15, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

I've added a bug section, might need too be moved to the Voice of Grenth section but i'm not sure as its related too both. Reaper94 16:19, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

It is not really that kind of a bug, as the text he gives you is still correctly referring to the wait time. Deleting the exclemation mark would cause even more confusion among players.84.80.151.136 23:10, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

An Idea[edit]

maby whats happening is that arenanet arnt going to "release" the quest, however they are waiting for someone to "activate it", eg; to do the quest someone has to talk to ... or find ... in a specific area, which will make the "situation change". Headchopperz 22:10, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

I would sincerely doubt that. Rather than send people on a wild goose chase, I think we should just do what the quest says and wait (albeit, it doesn't say patiently). Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 22:49, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Friday the 13th?[edit]

Considering that today is the 10th of November, which would thus make Friday the 13th... Who wants to bet that FRIDAY THE 13TH is when Dhuum breaks loose? It IS still a few days off after all. Leave it to Anet to choose a symbologically superstitious day for something 'bad' to happen... Just my thoughts on the matter. Anyone agree/disagree? 99.241.34.49 00:38, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) To those saying "it makes sense so it won't happen" - actually, I think that it would happen because it makes sense - Anet doesn't do everything in a way that it doesn't make sense - in fact, I hardly find things with the Live Team that doesn't make sense (some things that don't make sense is the nerfing of Shadow Form - but Linsey *or was it Regina?* said on her talk page that it may one of the first things the Test Krewe works on). I'm placing my money on Friday the 13th with a Jason reference. Dhuum will have one fear and weakness: Water Magic (aka Cold Damage). :3 -- Konig/talk 09:23, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

That would be boring though, all powerful and yet melts when water touches him, but then again it would make sense since grenth governs water and maybe that's how grenth managed to down him in the first place 219.74.137.41 13:57, 11 November 2009 (UTC)halfnode

Guild Wars, a friendly, family-oriented game, has been praised for being updated on a weekly basis by IGN.com. As such, the Guild Wars Live Team has lived up to it's reputation with a vast array of new and exciting metas, new PvE content that comes out monthly, and most of all, Flying Mounts! Quests that are meant to take time are easily obtainable and can be done within "several undetermined amounts of time that are at the discretion of people who deserve to be fired because they can't program a betting system that gives out rewards to players". --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:72.29.66.187 (talk).

In this surreal analogy, you stand in a room, bored of your many toys. Tomorrow, someone else joins you and hands you a very large present. It is a toy you can play with, and enjoy; at first you praise this person. Over the next little while, the person hands you various related presents, some big, mostly small, that you can play with also. You thank them. Some of the toys are less than perfect, and you start to feel an internal loathing for the person who gave you them. One day, after you receive twenty presents from the person, and seem full and content, they tell you, "I had one more, but it's not ready. Please enjoy the other toys you have enjoyed all this time while I prepare it just for you." You wait a very short time compared to how long you've had the toys. At the end, you get on the floor and start throwing a tantrum. "WANT IT, WANT IT," you say, and finally, "FUCK YOU! YOU LOUSY ASS MOTHER FAILED ME NOW AND ALWAYS." Excellent conduct, my friends, excellent conduct. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 14:24, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

...or else what? Read again what 72 said. Start ignoring this part of the quest for now. It would be better for you. Markus ClouserUser Markus Clouser signature img.jpg 14:37, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

What? 72, people are simply reacting to the fact that Regina and Martin said it would be "days". Well...."days" to most people would mean something less than 1 week (otherwise they would have expected the phrase "a week" or "weeks"). Now people are beginning to rightly expect that Anet has not finished the quest (which they never "officially" told us), and it could be several more days or even another week or two until they finish the quest.
I can hardly blame people for getting angry about a wildly underestimated time. It's like the XTH. Most players had "assumed" from various conversations with devs that it would only take a month or so, and here we are 7 months later with no more information than we had way back then. This is the way of Anet, and it has a tendency of pissing off players. Just saying. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 15:17, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

72 = Captain of good analogies. He's right that some people act like that, always being ungrateful and expecting everything yesterday (as anyone would presume with the talk from the live team). I expected Dhuum to be live after several days, but it's turning out to seem more like it's going to be heading to two weeks. Maybe the team had some problems. Maybe they've underestimated the length of time this would take. Maybe their version of days is our version of weeks. Yeah, the ingame communication is bad what with people not knowing what's going on. They need to improve on that, but badgering them all the time isn't going to fix it. Fixes won't happen overnight. --smøni 16:53, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

If the community has an atention spam of a few days, it stand within reason that Arena Net should not waste their time speaking about long lasting plans, but instead focus on doing, not talking. I've gained a new understanding of the impatience of game publishers that leads so many games to be released with bugs the developers weren't given the time to fix. Sometimes bugs or other severe issues occur in making a game, especially an MMO. Chances are that if something's getting postponed it's for good reason. I recall recently reading about one MMO that actually wound up crashing the operating system (not new news, granted) and I've seen quite a lot that just up and crash themselves the first few weeks of releasing new content or patches. I'd much rather wait on new content than feel at risk for things like that. Besides, it's not like we're paying a monthly fee, so waiting's hell-a easy and there's quite a lot of other things we could be doing in-game (or out). Seryu 09:19, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Well it is a bit odd the way they chose to do this. It seems to me 'The Waiting Game' probably wasn't planned, and likely was an emergency response to player demands like 'why are skellys still in UW' etc. No other online game specifically has a quest that asks you to wait until the developers finish it, at least none that I know of. Typically content is beta tested then released when its finished, not during mid-development. Flipper 00:41, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

And building and testing quests?? LOL stupidest thing I ever heard.. THEY SHOULD OF DONE THAT BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE GAME, simple... not hard.. And they probably just won't do it because they realized they ruined the game, they just made everyone ridiculously rich. Putting the already horrible market to death. I got this quest on over 6 accounts with over 67 characters... You realize how much people would make off this?? I'd be getting over 500K, 4800!!!!!!!!!! trick or treat bags... and over 60 scrolls

I heard it would take 3 days... it's been over 2 weeks Guild wars has been dead for over 2 years.

I'm going to ban Anet /report arena net [.]Failure

AN is understaffed. Since they fired some of their workers they got problems with keeping GW in line (Nick is sometimes buggy, skills are not always what they should be after an update etc.). You all should be happy they even bothered with this quest. I don't mind witing as long as the quest is a nice one. Simple solution: if you don't like you don't have to play the game!!! Or at least stop whining like 10yr old girls!--Monolito 06:29, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

It's understaffed because of GW2, as far as I understand. You didn't hear it was 3 days from any source that could possibly have known. And few people have 67 characters, nor any other standard by which you could measure how much they had overinvested into the game. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg {U|T|C} 14:30, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I think most of the development team has already moved on to GW2 and trying to get it finished. This doesn't leave a lot of staff available to create new content. Hard mode and the zaishen quests, both considered major updates to the game, use recycled content and add nothing new short of a few titles and items. If this new quest demands new content like new creatures, instances, maps, etc, then it could take quite awhile as opposed to just writing in a few zaishen models and recycling some quests. Flipper 16:06, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

A very good point and I hope its true. The sooner we have GW2 the better, and yes while these quests provided a welcome break from the monotony that Guild Wars has become I consider work on GW2 to be far more important.--Evil guy563 16:13, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

This is not a roundabout way of doing anything. This is a very direct attempt to give people something to do until GW2 comes out. Lets face it, for a lot of players, there is absolutely nothing to do in the game anymore. Many players have already killed every mob in every zone in hard mode, done every mission and bonus in both modes, captured every elite skill, beaten all the dungeons that should have lasted longer, and sat still while drunk for 6 days of play time. The real reward here is that it's something new to do, although, it will be done rather quickly.75.121.83.113 20:40, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

As a rit spirit spammer, I believe that the new speed clear will be done with 2 teams of 4 rits, all with spirit builds, thus utilising every spirit in each team. AKA pure ownage. I was just with a group that completed all 10 quests, so I got my 100 tots, but we could not finish the UW because one person went AFK and Dhuum will not activate until everyone enters the hall. Dont have to deal with Dhuum to finsh "The Waiting Game" though, just finish the first 10 quests and talk to Frozenwind. But it sucks that I dont' get trouphy and no end chest because one jerk tried to leach the UW. We had 2 perma sins, sort of, the AFK person was a bad perma sin, didn't know what he was doing. Well, there are enough spirits to fill 4 bars, but also some of the worse ones would be supplemented with skills that help spirits, heal self or others or do direct damage. Also, spirits do cancel eachother out, but only when within (i believe) spirit range or slightly further, thus when the 2 teams split up, the spirits would not affect eachother. The Orlando 21:08, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

"Completing all quests in the Underworld will release Dhuum." So ... after a bit of thinking I figured that IF i got this quest in time, I can now talk to the reaper to unlock Dhuum. Only the people with this quest can unlock him. When unlocked Dhuum will appear each time after a normal completion of UW as an "extra". Am I correct? Regardless of the details - yeah, Dhuum looks like a permanent addition to UW as an end boss. I also think that it's very possible that FoW will get the Menzies treatment in the future. The thing I'm a bit sad about though, is part of the implementation. Let me compare it to Mallyx - in DoA, you have to complete 4 areas, and then face Mallyx. You can complete those areas in any order, and with breaks (and all at once for better rewards if you so wish). Also, should you die on Mallyx, you can retry him with no penalty but time spent. In UWs case, you have to complete everything, including Dhuum, in one go. Die at Dhuum (completely) and your work will go down the drain (at least I'm assuming this, since The Nightman Cometh looks like all the other UW/FoW quests in the sense that it'll disappear once you leave the area). Granted Dhuum isn't cheep or hard like Mallyx (Boss quality really improved starting with MOX) but still. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 03:28, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm...Though I heard somewhere that Dhuum was brother of Grenth...Well whatever... -- Magamdy 07:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Nope, Dhuum was Grenth's predecessor - you probably got the twin brothers thing from the Reaper of the Twin Serpent Mountains who talks about twin brothers who tried to usurp Grenth. Aside from that, the only brother mentioning is Balthazar and Menzies - who are only half brothers. -- Konig/talk 12:20, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Requirements needed for 2010[edit]

I meet the requirements listed for this quest (I have all campaigns+eotn), but the npc will not offer it to me (in 2010, even though I was able to obtain it in 2009). What additional requirements have been added to this quest in 2010? --War_Pig5 07:14, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

So long as you didn't still have it, you should be able to get it. Even if you didn't do the first three quests even, I believe. -- Konig/talk 08:34, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
I can't get it on my warrior. It just offers the solo quests. King Neoterikos 08:58, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
I noticed this also. My characters who have never done the 2009 prequests, but did grab "the waiting game" and complete it, are not offered the quest. My monk however did do all the 2009 prequests (as well as waiting game), and was offered both "every bit helps" and "the waiting game." So to me it looks like the pre-quests are a pre-requisite this year. (and perhaps, doing them once will entitle you to every following year's waiting game.) FoxBat 16:53, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Possible problem?[edit]

Can this quest interfere with a normal clearing of UW? I mean, if I have this quest it will spawn more mobs or make dhuum to not appear? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.60.113.39 (talk).

The skeletons will spawn no matter if you have this quest accepted or not, and there's no reason why Dhuum shouldn't appear. The only difference for you in having this quest is the fact you get a quest rewards from King Frozenwind after protecting him. -- Arduin talk 09:31, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Do you have Something Wicked This Way Comes in your quest log? If you do, you can try abandoning that quest and then go back and see if he gives the reward for The Waiting Game. --Silver Edge 07:22, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

2009 Dialogue[edit]

So far, every quest from last year has had different dialogue this year. On this page, the only different dialogue that's listed is the initial dialogue. Were the intermediate and reward dialogues the same this year and last? --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:53, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

This & ALL the Festival quests gone from Log!; why different than 2009?[edit]

Brief background, update from support, and what next?

  • Background - While most quest are expected to be done during the event, but this was introduced last year and was available since then to complete & redeem as the NPC who is required ( King Frozenwind ) is available all-year round since existing NPC for other Underworld quest. There is nothing special about him like the Mad king who is only available during special seasonal events. So like previously, I worked hard to get several characters advanced to Lion's Arch & Temple of Age and then through the quest chain in series to that point just so could save its completion (which is long/difficult doing all the Elite area quests) later with guildees as had done on my primary character before. However I was SHOCKED (& from Forum posts, others where too!) when ALL the Festival quests were removed on Nov 2nd. This new behavior was not announced or explained in any of the updates.
  • Support's reply : So I opened a ticket with them not sure if accident/bug only to get the following response form GM Lemoncorba "I looked in to the issue and have determined that it is not a bug, and that the game is working as designed. Former years' Halloween quests are now designed to be repeatable each year. This means that, by design, they will be removed from the individual player's quest log as soon as the festival ends making them like the other event quests." Then when I tried to explain that The Waiting Game was different and anyway to investigate at least a restore of it, I got "There are no plans to revert any of the Halloween quests to their past status." & "the support system is not an official venue to share your thoughts and ideas with the Development Team. Due to legal reasons, we are only able to officially accept suggestions about these changes through the Guild Wars Wiki"
  • Now what?
Perhaps at least adding a "Note" sections as Warning to completed & get reward for next year if the new behavior is expected to repeating having it removed at the end of the Halloween event each time? So I am posting this open question to the community and hoping that not only will not get erased but maybe someone from the Development team will see.
