I Found Him here. http://i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy345/acs007/Footman.jpg

Probably several spawn points, I found him here [1] Mithos 17:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Also spawns the most northern bridge with the closed gate.--Fogeltje 18:46, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Spawns[edit]

Do the usual spawns get replaced by the "quest-Charr"? Haven't checked if it's been answered somewhere else.91.177.8.18 16:22, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I haven't done this particular quest yet, but for all the others, normal spawns are unaffected. Quest spawns generally appear in ordinarily-empty spots, or next to normal mobs. --Wormwood 16:30, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
none replaced but some killed by the quest spawns e.g. some grawl groups might run into charr unnoticed by you (like in former northland quests too) hence you might "miss" them once you come to their spawning area. [[79.206.253.201 01:45, 15 March 2011 (UTC)]]

Footman Tate[edit]

Funny how he is lvl 10 here in pre and only lvl 5 in the quest in post. Mithos 16:36, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

He scales with monster levels, probably. He was level 15 for me. -arnosluismans (talk) 16:41, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
From a lore point of view I say cowardice has made him even weaker. -Wrei110.175.241.56 23:21, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Did not spawn[edit]

I had the quest (lv13) and he did not spawn. There were also no quest-related Charrs at all. Not sure if it's the fact that I zoned in with a lv8 Gate monkey, or that I have the "Across the Wall" quest still active. Will test. DDSealed 18:37, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

If your monkey does not have the quest (or isn't above level 10 - not sure), and is still there when you walk through the portal, you won't receive the quest spawns. The quests' mechanics were changed, so that spawns now depend on the lowest level person in the party. Presumably, this person needs to have the quest active for anything to spawn at all.
To work around this, you simply need to make sure that the gate monkey leaves before you walk through the portal. -arnosluismans (talk) 18:39, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Yep just tested again with a lv8 monkey and asked him to leave before I zoned. Quest mobs spawned this time. DDSealed 18:49, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
And just with regard to the Across the Wall note, I just did the quest with Across the Wall active and Tate still spawned - both completed simultaneously when I brought them back to the portal. --76.28.89.132 17:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Experience farming[edit]

This quest is quite great for xp farming. If you take this route, you'll encounter about 11 groups of charr, and one run takes about 8-10 minutes (tested on a level 18 mesmer). Thought I'd share. -arnosluismans (talk) 19:44, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

He has multiple locations so it won't always be that route. But the area could be cleared of enemies before getting Tate non-the-less. -- Konig/talk 20:28, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
I think the person was referring to just killing the Charr and not bothering with Tate :) If you make a small detour south you'll nab a few extra Charr at the cost of maybe a minute or two. I get about 30 charr in a run. Haven't measured the time though.--Fogeltje 20:35, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
This is definitely not the best Vanguard quest to farm, but nice substitute for on the day where this quest is active. - Infinite - talk 22:01, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Which one would be best? So far, the Undead quest in the Catacombs worked best for me, but I'm not sure. -arnosluismans (talk) 23:06, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
That is the one (with Duke Gaban), though I have yet to find out if it *actually* is. Cycles and all that. - Infinite - talk 00:42, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
I think the one with the level 16 undead necromancers is probably better, since these have six set spawn points which always have at least three mobs. Often more. -arnosluismans (talk) 12:18, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
The spawns for the Charr groups is also fixed. There's 15 groups of two Charr (level 11 for my level 16 toon), takes about 11 minutes to kill them all (only focusing on killing, not bothering about Footman Tate at all). I haven't tried to farm the undead yet. Guess it'll all be about personal preference either. Tackling just two foes at a time might be easier for some players.--Fogeltje 14:52, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

lol[edit]

I laughed at the reward dialogue. Nice job anet :) User MadSkillz1o1 sig2.PNG MadSkillz1o1 13:50, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Odd spawns?[edit]

I had a level 2 warthog spawn and kill me using flare and firestorm? http://tinypic.com/r/auv51u/7

that's a common bug --RhoninUser Rhonin Soren sig.pngSoren 16:01, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

raid..[edit]

I'm so glad noobs can't use spell check before they paste nonsensical half-sentences all over a wiki page! 216.185.250.92 23:32, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

position[edit]

did anybody really encounter him on the most western position? I had him several times on the other 4 positions and other rescue missions have only 4 spawn points as well so I seriously doubt he might ever spawn on that hill. [[80.137.55.28 07:39, 20 November 2011 (UTC)]]

Easiest Farm[edit]

User Kristofferus Footman Tate.png
I have found this to be the most convenient and fastest method to farm for xp, witout having to take and abandon the quest. The only downside is hiring a someone to pull the lever. Note: The experience table assumes only one player is present during the run.
Using the above map, you'll encounter 30 charr. The level of difficult will obviously scale with each profession, but as an elementalist + Fire Imp this run takes me about 10 minutes. As for the experience gain: If the charr are 2 levels below you, there will be a 15% exp gain PER run, towards your next level. If they're 3 levels below you, there will be a 9% gain PER run. See chart below:
