Post-Shiro? Nightfall?[edit]

What would the Vision say if the Factions player has already beaten Shiro? And what would they say to a Nightfall character? --«troy frostwind» 19:41, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

I just beat the Lich with a Canthan character with which I had already beaten Shiro and when I talked to the vision of Glint I got the Defend Droknar's Forge quest dialouge. Accepted quest then talked to Glint again and got the before mentioned dialouge Ejoty 4 06:35, 20 December 2007 (UTC)ejoty_4

Definitely Not an Avatar[edit]

Okay, so I'll grant that categorizing a "vision" of a dragon as a dragon is not perfect; however, it is absolutely incorrect to state that any form or appearance of the dragon Glint is a representation of one of the gods and that by definition is what an avatar is. So absent some clear game reference that the Vision of Glint is an avatar it should not be stated as such. -- Inspired to ____ 02:23, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

An avatar, by definition, is not a representation of the gods.
  1. An embodiment, as of a quality or concept; an archetype: the very avatar of cunning.
  2. A temporary manifestation or aspect of a continuing entity: occultism in its present avatar.

Those statements describe what the Vision of Glint is. A manifestation of an entity. Therefore, it can still be classified as an avatar.--Pyron Sy 02:36, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I do not argue with your alternate definitions; however, I do believe that another definition and one which is much more appropriate to all other uses found in the game is: A representation or incarnation of a god. Neverheless, categorizing this as an avatar leaves this as a disambiguation link that doesn't fits there. So while it me be incorrect for me to state that this can not be defined as an avatar, that does not make it correct to define it as such. (ie. absent a better alternative should we call a picture of a dog, a dog or a picture.) (by the way, I vote to call it a picture of a dog, or in this case: "a Vision of Glint" and not arbitrarily assign it to a type that isn't even defined.)-- Inspired to ____ 02:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
I don't believe avatars are strictly limited to gods. A more fitting definition, in my mind, would be "A representation or incarnation of any being or deity". Calor Talk
Suun also refers to the Celestials in Nahpui Quarter as avatars, so it's certainly not limited to the Gods. | ThatSounds Risky | 03:49, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
omg, I can't believe I accepted what you said as fact without checking. Your link doesn't even state that the Celestials are referred to as avatars! -- Inspired to ____ 05:05, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Fine, I didn't want to add the opening dialogue without at least the ending cinematic dialogue as well, but it's now transcribed for your viewing pleasure. | ThatSounds Risky | 05:27, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks & sorry for being a pain. But this just clarifies even more to me that avatar should not be listed as a creature type because then the Celestials would be dual typed as both a celestial and as an avatar. (By the way, for all the desire to categorize the Vision of Glint as a creature#type of avatar, no one has so far seen it appropriate to add avatar as a creature type.) Upon further consideration I believe the underlying problem is that this pages uses the creature template when it isn't actually a creature at all because it is only a "vision" of a creature. -- Inspired to ____ 21:24, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
It uses the NPC infobox because it is an NPC and talks and all that. Avatar isn't the greatest name for a creature type, but this isn't the place to discuss that. Bring this up on a more fitting page (sorry, can't think of where atm, and my time is limited). Calor Talk 22:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually, since this is the only NPC which isn't a representative of the gods that I see linking to a creature type of avatar, I think it is the place. Also, I'm beginning to believe that the NPC which is Vision of Glint is actually the altar. And the altar actually just activates with a light show representation of Glint when it is able to communicate with a player. Unfortunately, I don't have a char at Droknar's that hasn't completed Prophecies to check this out. If so, I believe it should be no different then one like this Shrine of the Bear Spirit and just left blank. -- Inspired to ____ 22:47, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
So in-game avatars aren't limited to gods. Glint is just as much a god as the Celestials. Calor Talk 03:54, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
If your basing your comment on the above reference, I would verify that for yourself. While I can't claim that it isn't true, the links provided do not substantiate it although that is clearly his implication in providing them (very misleading). -- Inspired to ____ 05:05, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
And that may be fine, except that it still doesn't leave a method to clean up this single disambiguatious link that doesn't tie in with anything else. I wish it had some stars in it so we could define it as a Celestial. And so all I'm really asking at this point is why creature type this as an avatar when nothing else is typed that way. Besides, if anyone really thinks that an avatar is a creature type, why hasn't anyone set it up as such yet? -- Inspired to ____ 03:58, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Anyway, this was a loose end sidetrack from the project I was working on, so I'm fine leaving it here and moving on. If someone is looking for something to do, this avatar in association with this Special:Whatlinkshere/Avatar could use some cleaning up. Thanks. -- Inspired to ____ 04:12, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
I moved it back to Avatar because it certainly wasn't a Dragon; I think of avatar as an embodiment of something else, and I agree with Calor on this one. If there is a better classification, go ahead and change. I just thought that an avatar was more appropriate. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 12:52, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
