Prison Key bug[edit]

I hope that its okay for me to add this as a bug rather than just a regular note seeing as it doesn't seem an item that takes up no space can't be picked up with a full pack. This may very well affect similar items in other missions or quests. Broodling67 00:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

When i did this the Prison Key seemed to spawn after i killed the guard on level 2, every 30-45 seconds another would appear until i started to pick them up. i used the first to unlock the door and freed cowl then picked up the 2nd and 3rd keys, though it still said i only had one.

Um, for me I had two keys, but i think that was from an extra guard.

I had the same thing too, prolly just a bug, no need for two keys (dialogue also says you have only one key) ~ Sanna 18:34, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Inaccuracy?[edit]

The walkthrough states a strategy for pulling, fighting, and killing the effigies. But I've done thisa thing three times on three characters and I just charged the boss, make all my henches and heroes focus damage on him. (Killing the extra charr out front at first, of course.) But I've done this mission 3 times and never TOUCHED the effigies that barell through.
Okay, maybe it's not an inaccuracy but there should be a note somewhere that the boss is the only one you need to kill. VanguardVanguard 21:13, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Help[edit]

Can anyone give me some tips on completing this in hard mode? I've been having a downright hateful time, i keep running into groups of three charr dominators. --MarinBloodbane 21:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

How are your teams set up? Are you hero/henching it? VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG16:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Nvm I got it the reason i was phailing was I had three ranger heroes all set on passive :D --MarinBloodbane 20:06, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Wow yea, I can see how that would gimp your ability to complete the mission o_O VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG16:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Kill Flamemaster Maultooth ASAP guide.[edit]

Kill him fast as soon as the dialogue appears and before the Charr Effigy wipes out the team ends this mission like quest. Added that in notes! I do it all the time in NM. I don't know if its possible in HM though >_<--Ridz16 02:28, 20 May 2008 (UTC) gee i killed the last guard to get the key into the big midle area on the 3rd floor and i DIDNT get a prison key! i went on wiki and it said that they dropped one every time. im i missing something or is this really screwed up?

Quest Bug[edit]

2 Prison guards spawned i nthe second level outside the first gate. They both dropped a key. Was there an update i missed that made an extra ky to some new area? I also think this quest is the most boring one and i HATE IT.

wow...i was going to say the same thing^ this is the most boring mission ever72.81.193.55 21:18, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

How to break cracked wall on lvl3?[edit]

Cracked wall, dungeon level 3

There is a Cracked Wall on the third level's upper walkway, to the west and south of Maultooth's position (see mission map inset). There doesn't seem to be any source of explosives in this dungeon, unless there's a hidden Dwarven Ghost NPC who provides them. Ursan Force probably wouldn't do it because it's not a wooden barrier. Is there any way to find out what's behind this wall? -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg talk 16:33, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Dwarven Ghosts don't supply powder kegs, and this isn't a dungeon anyway. There's probably no way to get through it, there's quite a few walls in dungeons and quests that take place in the same areas that are there to cut off unused sections. Sometimes if you stand next to them and zoom in all the way you can see what's on the other side. It's most likely the same chamber that's there in CoF, but without enemies. Manifold User Manifold Jupiter.jpg 18:57, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
The doors are just areas of the CoF dungeon that are off-limits. I fully explored the WoB explorable areas the other day and several doors are locked, and areas off-limit. ~Celestia 01:32, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Plus arenanet reused various parts of dungeons throughout EotN, so that cracked wall may be accessed in a different dungeon. --User Ezekial Riddle silverbluesig.pngRIDDLE 01:46, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Location[edit]

Where does this quest take place? The NPC pages are mess: some call the location "Warband of Brothers" in Charr Homelands, some say it's in Depths of Tyria, some say it's in the Cathedral of Flames. This issue is pretty common among other EoTN primary quests, too. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 19:26, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Mechanically, it's a mission instance. Physically, it's located below ground (making it Depths of Tyria). The ground above the area is Charr Homelands. Finally, the map re-uses the COF map (or vice-versa). So, in one way or another, each idea has at least the kernel of truth.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:57, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Effigy[edit]

I find that if you have high DP or a weak party, if you head in from the side you can pull the effigy solo and Pain Inverter it and it dies instantly. Never failed but it takes longer. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.242.239.218 (talk • contribs) at 20:09, 26 July 2011 (UTC).

Except that this is an very early quest, and you need to complete "The Cipher of Kormir" to get 'Pain Inverter'; so the best way to deal with this quest; is to equip a skill you really should not have yet. Good Job Dev's Why not lock the Key to the Prison in a Trunk on the otherside of the Door. Then Mr Peabody can come back later using his wayback machine and open the doors for you; bloody poor design, really bloody poor design--69.255.123.188 23:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Welcome to pve, besides, you can ignore the effigies and spike the boss in normal mode. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 00:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Or you guys can quit being silly and just put Broad Head Arrow on a ranger hero. Flag your party back, cast Protective Spirit on yourself. Take the initial Mind Burn spike. Unflag, have your ranger hero use it's elite. Rinse and repeat for all Effigies. Daichi Kiyoshi 21:06, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Nevermind. I didn't even use a ranger throughout the entire dungeon. I just did this in hard mode a few days ago. I didn't even use a prot. Heh. Flag heroes back, use your allies as a meat shield. Pull the effegies carefully and seperate them away from the group of charr. Bringing a minion master helps spread the damage out. Just make sure to flag your heroes out of any Aoe and your fine. Warband of brothers is surprisingly easy even in hard mode. Between the minions, your allies, and 7 heroes, you should have enough damage output to take the effigies out fairly quickly with little threat to the party. Effigy Bug[edit]

This might be a one-time thing, but it was beneficial. Was going down in HM, and had just spawned the Effigies when my computer crashed. (Old comp, dies a lot) I managed to boot it up in time for the server to re-connect me in place - got lucky there. When I got back in, I was at the same spot in the dungeon, all the other critters were there, but both effigies were gone. Made it nice and easy to walk up and kill Maultooth.

Are you sure that your heroes didn't manage to take them out? Since you got back in, you were temporarily disconnected (not booted from the game), which means other foes and your heroes were still fighting for however long it took you to reconnect. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:56, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
so ummm effigies can't get to top of stairs??? they just did and can i guess... however they seem to be unable to figure out down the stairs once they wiped us from top of stairs... so it was pretty easy to kill maultooth 71.181.119.183 07:12, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Effigy.glitch.jpg
figured i'd show they can get up there...down is another story :D oh and i know i'm gonna get a "they can get there" but i flagged at bottom and was using the bow method which says you are safe... i guess notDurp da durp 07:25, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Prison Guard Bug[edit]

Just doing Warband of Brothers, killed my way to the Prison Guard. Totally emptied his bar and he just sat there with an empty bar taking damage for about 15 seconds. I decided to run off, and he suddenly dropped dead. Simooshy 14:25, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

For clarification, it was the Prison Guard on the first floor. Simooshy 14:41, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Sounds like lag.75.36.179.155 14:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, except I wasn't lagging :) Simooshy 15:01, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Your experience is consistent with rubberbanding, which is a symptom of lag. 75.36.179.155 16:13, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

res skills on level 1[edit]

...enemies don't appear to use them. I cleared out a load of stuff in NM and then broke aggro, leaving Dominators, Axemasters, and Blademasters alive. None of them attempted to use a res skill. This was not the case on level 2. Mist Y (talk) 17:33, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
