Wintersday Cards: A few details[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

As you may have learned, a few players received Wintersday cards in 2006, and they're starting to receive them this year, as well. I've been asked a lot of questions about this, and I did look for a Wintersday cards page on the GWW, but didn't notice one. *hint* So I thought I'd provide some details here:

  • The selection process involved in sending the Wintersday cards involves all sorts of super-secret things that include meditation, tea leaves, watching the stars, counting random drops by the light of the silvery moon, and other covert operations. In other words, we're not telling the details of how players were chosen to receive a card, but it was not random. (Ok, yes, the TPN -- Tadpole Network -- definitely played a role, and if you don't know the TPN, I ain't explaining. ;) )
  • We relayed the cards to Brighton to assist us in getting them out to all parts of the world. All cards were hand signed -- every one of them. We signed at ArenaNet, so the cards had dev team sigs, before they were sent over to NCsoft Europe, and then the NCE team kindly helped us get them out to European players.
  • We sent from here (Washington state, USA) to North America, Central America, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa... well, any place not in Europe. Gosh, I hope we put enough postage on them all.
  • There were a few players for whom -- even with all our extraordinary efforts -- we could not obtain addresses. I emailed about 50 people today to ask them to send that info, if they care to participate. (This whole thing is done, of course, in total respect for the Privacy Policy, and we're not signing anyone up for bulk emails or putting their name in the hat for the fruit-of-the-month club drawing. )
  • Updated: I would like to hear from the webmasters of currently active fansites who would enjoy receiving a card or who might like to have a card sent to a staff member. This is not for forum members -- I am deeply sorry, but we do not have enough cards to cover anyone outside the list, already sent, and this offer to fansite staff members, which is first come/first served. This offer is for actively involved, current staff members. Webmaster are welcome to email the fansite email address with a full and complete name and mailing address for any eligible staff member and we'll pop a card in the mail. We do not have a lot of cards left, so please understand if we cannot oblige. Also note that this offer is extended only to those fansites who are currently updating and active. Lastly, these cards may arrive after the holiday break, but hey, Wintersday is a long celebration! (Please, this is only for active fansites, those that have been actively updated in the last month.)
  • I am, personally, really really happy that we were able to send the cards. I wanted to start it about five years ago, but it was only last year that everything came together to make it possible. This year, Katy (one of my favourite artists and an amazing person!) designed the art on her own time; our office manager hand-numbered the cards; the co-founders and I signed every single one; many staff members offered to sign more than cards as time passed; and I shepherded the cards from room to room to assure that each got a variety of team signatures, not just a simple, "Pass it around the room and we're done." That's why, if you look carefully at the cards and the game credits, you'll see a representative from every team in the building on nearly every card. Yes, I am proud of that. No, I don't know that anyone else necessarily will care about that sort of thing, but as a fan, I know I would. :)

And whether you received a card, or not, we wish everyone a very happy holiday season! (I'm sure I'll see a bunch of you in the game during the holidays. :) ) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Wintersday Card. If you have any information about the 2006 card, Gaile, like who designed it and signed it, I'll put that in too. Are you willing to say exactly how many of the cards are about? If people received either the 2006 or 2007 card (and wouldn't mind giving the wiki a scan!) please pop it on the page. :) --Aspectacle 22:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Psssst -- check the page. Voila -- art! Thanks, Aspectacle. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

*inserts quick edit* I don't know what you mean, Calibri -- you'd think I typo'd or something! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:31, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Now that's some nice guildwars holiday season spirit you got going there Gaile! And a great appreciation for all the staffers of fansites out there, they really deserve it for their contribution to the gw community! Lovely that so many coworkers of Arenanet wanted to sign the cards, isn't it more like a poster size card? ^^ Keep up the good work guys! It's highly appreciated by your gamers, I'm sure =) --User Tribina Mulogo.jpg (Tribina / talk) 23:21, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks for the Wintersday Card that I received yesterday! (#552/1300) It must have had quite a journey, with only half a zip code on it :P136.8.1.100 11:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the card. Mike should learn to write readable, but, still, its 1300 signatures. Poor guy! Eirikeb 00:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Holidays Card[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

I got my happy holidays card today, Gaile. Thanks so much to you and everybody else on the Guild Wars team for making the community truly feel valuable to this game. It's by far the best developer/user relationship I've ever seen for a non-indie game. —Tanaric 07:16, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I also got mine the other day, and just want to say thank you! - anja talk 10:33, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Woot, I'm delighted that they arrived. This is one of my favourite projects of the whole year. <3 -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:54, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
My mom called and told me a weird but nice card arrived from Arena net to me, xD. So bad I won't be able to see it until holy week. But Thank you =) -- Coran Ironclaw 17:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
That was no "weird card!" We're just going into previously un-charr-ted territory for seasonal cards. ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:56, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Oooh is there one this year?[edit]

ooh oooh ooh is there? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 18:36, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

scan of the reverse 2006/2007[edit]

Anyone who received the 2006 / 2007 cards willing to scan the reverse similar to the 2019-2021 cards on teh gw2wiki? With the signatures and the silver/gold ink number this would be a real treat. Steve1 (talk) 19:16, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

I'll see if I can find the ones I have when I get home from work. --Rainith (talk) 20:59, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
No luck, I know I had 2006 & 2007 cards, but I can't find them right now. Sorry, maybe someone else has them. --Rainith (talk) 01:42, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
