Just a heads up that the disambiguation notice isn't broken. Once Zaishen Challenge (outpost) has been created, it will show in the disambig note. --Dirigible 21:26, 17 April 2007 (EDT)

These tricks seem rather useless. A group of 4 AoE (Generally Searing Flames) elementalists will destroy each group quickly. 204.52.179.199 11:27, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
Then add it in as a general trick. However, even if it works well, it's still convenient to keep the current tricks up to give people alternative ways to get through this. For example, not everyone can get 4 searing flames elementalists together. The tricks written here are feasible with heroes too. Alaris 12:45, 22 May 2007 (EDT)
I have to agree to User 204... - these "tricks" are utter tripe. Not only that, the whole article needs a cleanup. It is not up to Wiki standards and very basic. I will try to do that once I am back from vacation. --84.147.65.189 15:23, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
So how do I setup a 4 searing flames elementalists using a warrior primary, and if I took the ranger instead of the elementalist in Istan? Need options. Cleanup would be nice, but I have a puppy now, so no time unfortunately. Alaris 22:22, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
First off, you eventually are able to change secondaries in each campaign, and with PvP. In Nightfall, it's a profession changer found after Hunted! in the Command Post, though he is not unlocked until you complete Building the Base: Prisoners of War. Also, when did anyone start using spacing after discussion posts? It looks so much less cluttered here. Lastly, I find it excessively hilarious when posters are referred to using their IP. Chaiyo Kaldor 03:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Just because you can roll a PvP SF ele doesn't mean you should have to. Also, a lot of new players might not have the necessary unlocks to fit into one or the other trick, so options are good. This way they can farm points, and get the unlocks they need. Alaris 05:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Team/Build proposal[edit]

The challenge is to make one team that can defeat each mob in each arena quickly, so you can to to the Zaishen Elite and farm up to 6000 Balthazar points in 20 minutes. After some testing, I got a team with 3 heros that can achive the needed 16 consecute wins in the Zaishen Elite:

  • SF elementalist (myself, using an SF build and Meteor Shower included)
  • Trapper (1st hero, uses the well known trapper build with Winnowing and Frozen Soil)
  • SF elementalist (2nd hero, same build as myself)
  • Mesmer (3rd hero, uses an interrupter build with Energy surge and Cry of Frustration)

As soon as the mission starts, I micromanage the Trapper hero and put as many traps as possible at the gate until the enemy team arrives. The order is important: Don't start with a spirit skill, as you would lose 4 seconds of skill recharge. Set the first spirit after you did all traps for the first time. Then redo the now recharged traps. Then set the second spirit. Then redo the recharged traps until the enemy mob arrives. Your trapper has enough energy only if you give him mostly Radiant and Attunement runes, as well as a staff with 15+5 Energy. He does not need any Bow. You get it right if the Ranger mob goes down without any intervention from anyone - just from your traps.

The spirits of Winnowing and Frozen Soil must be set on the doorstep in a way that they can block the incoming mob. Usually, I set Winnowing next to one side of the door and Frozen Soil next to it, so they block half of the opening. When the mob arrives, it runs into the traps and stops in front of the spirits, where I can finish off what is left after the traps have triggered.

The IWAY mob is a bit difficult, since the Nekros and Mesmers stay behind. Directly focus them with a Meteor shower as soon as they come in range.

The Elementalist mob is also a bit special, since it will only run into the traps if you move to the farthest point of the starting area, including your heros. Use the flags. Usually, it is better to forget about the traps and attack them directly with Meteor shower and SF as soon as they start to attack you. Your Mesmer hero will do a good job to interrupt them as well as the Nekros and Mesmers of the IWAY team. The elementalist mob is also the only team that will destroy your spirits(!), especially the Frozen Soil. So be prepared to micromanage your trapper in the middle of the battle again and recast Frozen Soil. Silmar Alech 00:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Redirect[edit]

I am redirecting Zaishen Challenge (explorable area) here because this mission has no explorable area. Shard 05:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Why not just delete it? It seems unlikely that anyone would imagine an explorable area for the Zaishen Challenge, though I suppose that can't be entirely ruled out. Chaiyo Kaldor 03:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Possible Bug?[edit]

When I win two matches in a row - the second match displays "consecutive wins: 1" Is this a bug? Do I have to win against 5 different teams without losing to unlock Zaishen elite? 193.190.253.145 16:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

No, it's not a bug, it's just confusing. The Zaishen elite features the same fights, but continuous and random. In the Zaishen challenge, however, you get kicked out of fighting every time you fight, regardless of whether you win or not. So you cannot get consecutive wins here.
As for unlocking the elite, yes, you have to win against 5 different teams. These wins don't have to be consecutive. Alaris 16:16, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

2,000 per day - Ambiguous?[edit]

I wonder if anyone has done a detailed ananysis of this as I have just taken 4 accounts into the arena that did 2k yesterday and today one is getting faction but three arent. the "24 hours" or "per day" therefore seems inaccurate. I did wonder if anet updated the clock at say 5pm PST ( the same time they update the faction totals) but have yet to be in a position to check this. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.251.124.64 (talk).

I am at GMT -4, which is PST +4, so 5pm PST is 9pm my time. That's around the time I got my 2k faction yesterday. I haven't been able to get any today so far. I will try this again every hour or so, and see if it does switch over at 5pm PST. If that's so, I'll just have to make sure I get it before 9 o'clock from now on. FloppyJoe 22:03, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Right when it turned over to 9pm, it started to give me faction. So, your speculation of switching over at 5pm PST is correct it seems. I will add a note, and someone can change it if they think I don't word it right or it's not important or something. If you don't agree with it, try it for yourself. FloppyJoe 01:02, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Tonight I tried it again. I got all the faction I could in the Zaishen Challenge at about 5:30pm. Then, I tried every couple hours, and noticed that I was getting faction at 8:40pm. Maybe it changes over at 0:00 (UTC), which I'll have to test it more in-depth tomorrow. Tomorrow, I'll just do the challenge over and over until I start to get faction, and note the time. Should give you info about the team[edit]

Right now it just gives you a solo build to use against them, which is useless for pve characters that are not of that particular profession. I want to know what the opposing team is made up of and what skills they use.

  • Nevermind, i found it but...as this illustrates, the page is murky. The tips are not well written and again only useful if your character is that profession. Maybe they should be moved to the page of the specific opposing team?

If this page is going to spell something out at all, it should talk about the opposing teams makeup, not random tips which again, only apply to one profession.

The strategies[edit]

Are lolterrible. Seriously. Can someone either improve or remove them, that's embarrassing. You can kill the IW team with monk, elementalist and warrior henchman while you AFK, why do you need an earth magic team? Misery 13:50, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

These strategies are mostly used for Zaishen Elite (though put here because they are the same teams, and you meet them here first). Those strategies are more effective and generally more newbie-friendly. Many of them also deal well with increased team sizes in Zaishen Elite. What seems like overkill at first may save your hide later. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 14:27, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Uh... except the last one that was just added, they are all team specific so you can't use them in the elite challenge unless you keep re-entering until you get the right team. Misery 14:41, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Update friday 30 Oktober[edit]

If I saw it right inn the last update, It is not possible to enter this mission with heros anymore. dont we need to ad a note or something?--Wysth 16:58, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Hmm true. The update stated the guild hall and Heroes' Ascent, but then it was changed to GvG. Said nothing about ZC/ZE. Just checked in-game and you cannot enter with Heroes. Too bad for people who still do ZC/ZE >< ~Celestia 17:05, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

This is too bad. I really wonder whether this is going to be fixed or that it is intentional. It would really be a shame. Non high end PvP rewards are already second to none. So if you're not a very social person ingame, are not online all the time/not in a guild or have just started playing (my friend) it's almost impossible to get some new skills for yourself or heroes, or get yourself heroes (and why even bother unlocking heroes now when you can't use them anywhere? What is the point of this update?)

I am really starting to dislike this whole "it shouldn't be too easy" policy as of late, HB and TA dissapear, now, no heroes anywhere. We know now, we have to WORK VERY VERY HARD for our faction points, skills, and gold. When is the fun and quite frankly, the game, going to be brought back into the game for us non-pro and non-hardcore grinders and non-guild wars 'socialites'? And please, let it be a bit more soloable again.--Eilan Favery 11:05, 12 November 2009

Of course it's still possible to just go Ranger and trap the trappers and get your 2000 faction per day, but I mainly H/H the missions and quests in PvE and ZC and ZE were a good way to hone my Hero skills AND get a little bit of faction everyday.--Eilan Favery 11:11, 12 November 2009

Survivor Title[edit]

Could it be worth adding a note to mention that death during this mssion will stop your progress in the survivor title. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.97.90.1 (talk).

1:00 (UTC) Note[edit]

Where does that come from? Is it true? Couldn't find anything about it in the Zaishen Elite article. And if it is true, is it 1:00PM or 1:00AM? Elch 22:50, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Zaishen Elite (mission) is different; it operates on a per-24-hours cycle ("The faction cap resets every 24 hours." ). UTC always uses a 24-hour clock: 1:00 or 01:00 always means the equivalent of AM; it is never affected by daylight savings or British summer time (as is its close counterpart, Greenwich Mean Time).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
So Zaishen Challenge resets at a fix time while Zaishen Elite resets after 24 hours? Thanks alot for the answer Tennessee Ernie Ford. Elch 08:45, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
You are welcome.
(Just to avoid confusion with ppl reviewing this down the road: the availability of specific challenge quests (bounty/mish/combat) change at a fixed hour, but they can be turned in whenever you like. The Z-elite can be done as often as you like whenever you like, but you stop earning faction after 6000. That limit is removed after 24 hours — that's probably what you meant, but I have seen many people confused by this; perhaps reset isn't the best word to explain this).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:31, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
