Two hundred years prior to the present day in the game, Shiro Tagachi betrayed and murdered his former master, Emperor Angsiyan, as he visited Kaoya Zun Temple. In turn, he was slain by the combined might of the champions Vizu the Assassin, Saint Viktor of the Kurzicks, and Archemorus of the Luxons.
In the moment before he died, he let out a terrible cry, empowered by the dark God Abaddon. This cry emanated violently over the lands of Cantha, a moment later, everything was petrified; the Echovald Forest was turned to solid rock, the seas of the Luxons were frozen in jade - earning their name, the Jade Sea. The entire continent reeled from this terrible blow, and all cultures would be forced to adapt to their new surroundings.
