[edit] Walkthrough

Head south until you come to a Statue of Melandru. Near the statue will be a Melandru's Stalker. Select the stalker and use Charm Animal. The stalker will become hostile and attack you during this process. For safety, you may wish to use Troll Unguent before charming, or you can stand close to the Statue of Melandru which provides health regeneration to any creature near it.

[edit] Dialogue

[edit] Initial dialogue

Master Ranger Nente
"One of the great joys in a Ranger's life is earning the trust of an animal companion. If you are interested, I will give you a skill that will allow you to charm an animal. However, it would not be fitting, so close to a shrine of Melandru, to charm just any creature."
"Along the path here you will find the shrine. Nearby you may find one of the rare cats known by the name Melandru's Stalker. If you can charm one of these animals, you will truly have Melandru's blessing."
Yes Accept: "I am willing."
No Decline: "No, I have other business."
Ask Ask: "Follow the path south to the statue of Melandru. Use your Charm Animal skill on one of the stalkers near the shrine and bring it back to me."

[edit] Reward dialogue

Master Ranger Nente
"You have done very well; it's not easy to charm one of these great cats. The gods are smiling on you."

[edit] Notes

  • If you charm another animal aside from Melandru's Stalker you will not be able to finish this quest but will be able to continue with your chosen pet, unless you give the animal to Jarrel the Tamer, the only pet tamer in pre-Searing Ascalon.
  • It is a good idea to keep the Melandru's Stalker as the post-searing quest Endangered Species requires you to tame one.
