A trapper in DoA watches the effects of his traps.

A Trapper is a Ranger focusing on trap skills and other skills which enhance the usage of traps.

  • The attributes mostly used on trappers are Wilderness Survival, Expertise and to a lesser extent Beast Mastery.
  • Trappers are very popular in the missions Zaishen Elite and Zaishen Challenge where the enemy will approach players, so many traps can be set around the players' start base.
  • Trappers often use Echo chaining in order to get 3 of the same trap.
  • The skill of a trapper involves being able to aggro a mob in such a way that they become forced into the traps, and if needed keeping them there long enough so that the traps damage them at their full duration. In some cases spirits are placed near the traps to draw aggro.
  • AoE Knockdown and cripple are often used, especially from Spike Trap and Tripwire, to ensures foes stay in the traps as long as possible.

Equipment & Attributes[edit]

Most trappers should max Wilderness Survival (12+1+3 recommended) and have high Expertise to reduce costs of traps. They should use items and runes that augment their energy, as life or armor runes are not as useful given that they often do not put themselves at risk. In Zaishen Elite, having max Expertise can help in setting as many traps as possible without having to wait for energy to recharge.

Strategies[edit]

  • Against melee: set your traps with 1-2 spirits on them. Nature rituals work well, but binding rituals can be used too. Lure the melee'ers onto the traps, where they will attack the spirits and suffer the full damage of the traps.
  • Against ranged: set your traps, aggro the mobs, and move back keeping the traps between you and the mobs. Rituals, if needed, should be kept out of the way.
  • Against patrols: find out where the patrols go through, and trap there when they leave.
  • With H&H: keep the heroes & henchmen slightly further than 1 radius of the aggro bubble, especially if your group contains MM's. If they are too close, they may engage the foes before they reach the traps, thus wasting your efforts.
  • In HM, it is possible to kill foes using 1 trapper alone. This can be useful if your party has been wiped and your DP is high: kill a few small groups with careful trapping to reduce your DP, then get yourself killed to rez your party.

  • Trappers need to take into account that Expertise's energy reducing effect does not apply to PVE-only traps if they choose to incorporate those traps into their builds.
