[edit] Thought of the Moment

In AB, did you know that killing the other team without mobbing makes a win almost certain? Capping does nothing if the other team caps shortly after you do. If your other 2 teams follow your example, AB simply becomes a 4v4+4v4+4v4, and the winner is decided by which team has the most killing teams. --19:45, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] General PvE Class Analysis

  • Beginner Tier
    • Warrior
    • Elementalist
    • Dervish

The beginner tier is as the name suggests, for beginners to the game. As long as you're dealing out damage, you're playing the class well. Obviously there's advanced strategies for all classes, but these 3 classes are the easiest to play. That being said, attempting to tank with these classes and not knowing what to do would quickly lower your overall effectiveness. Basically, you can't be a tank AND an effective damage dealer.

  • Intermediate Tier
    • Necromancer
    • Ranger
    • Monk
    • Paragon

These classes generally fulfill a specialized role in the party. These classes balanced offensive power with defensive tactics (although monks generally fulfill pure defensive roles). While the monk is appropriate for almost all party setups, these classes could be excluded from a party to meet the holy trinity setup, but the advanced capabilities of these classes would be lost. In other words, these classes make life easier if you know what you're doing, but can become a drag on the party if you don't.

  • Advanced Tier
    • Mesmer
    • Assassin
    • Ritualist

These classes are highly discouraged for beginning players; since in order to play these classes effectively, a good understanding of the game mechanics is necessary. These classes need to be examined individually: Mesmers excel at single target, which in pve can be important in certain scenarios. An important aspect is determining critical targets in the heat of battle, and responding appropriately. Assassins have extremely spike potential, but are lacking in defense in many cases. Unlike a basic damage dealer that must choose offensive or defensive power, assassins must balance the two, thus the use of shadow stepping becomes critical. Ritualists have the uncanny ability to fulfill all roles in party. But due to obvious skill limitations, the ritualist must choose and balance those choices. Hence an understand of both self and the scenario is critical.
