[edit] What is this page about?

See User talk:Gem/Request for balancing PvE#Solutions for more thought out and up to date reasoning and lots of discussion.

Oh my god, they did it again. This weekend we are getting even more of the PvE ruining items, adding even more unnecessary booster items that give imba powers to the players. All these consumable items ruin PvE by making it very very easy. There's no harm making the normal mode game a bit easier since many players like exploring the world and playing through the game with not too much hassle and difficulties. With the introduction of hard mode the game received a new incentive for players who got extremely bored in the easy PvE part of the game. However, this experience has been severely damage with the introduction of massive amounts of consumables that the players can easily aquire and which give them very big advantage over the monsters which were balanced to be hard enough for players without these items. Now anyone - let me repeat that anyone - can play through every hard mode mission and vanquish every hard mode area with no problem at all by hoarding a few piles of these items. Most of them are very very easy and cheap to aquire and even the most expensive ones are available to anyone with a pretty small amount of cash. This doesn't only take the fun out of playing the PvE part of the game but it also diminishes the titles and other achievements of players who play through the hard mode and the hard areas without these items. Basically titles only show time used in the game now, not the skill of the player. The original game box said something about "no grind, just skill", but the game is the exact opposite at the moment.

See the following list for the ridiculous bonuses available to a player. Note that the party wide bonuses mainly stack with the personal bonuses, and you can have all of these at the same time. The durations carry from 10 to 30 minutes, allowing the party to survive the hardest parts of a mission or vanquishing trip very easily. And if someone manages to die, DP removal is always at hand in too many ways to count.

[edit] What a player can do with the PvE-only items outside of towns

  • +220 maximum health
  • +20 maximum energy
  • +25% speed boost
  • +2 to all attributes
  • +1 health regeneration
  • +5 armor
  • +25% increase to your attack speed
  • 25% reduction to your skill activation time

Also:

  • A 5%/10% Morale Boost to you
  • Remove 15%/all of your Death Penalty

[edit] What a player can do for the whole party (some also stack with the players personal bonuses)

  • +100 maximum health
  • +10 maximum energy
  • +1 to all attributes
  • +1 health regeneration
  • +10 armor
  • 5 point damage reduction
  • Immunity to critical hits
  • +25% increase to attack speed
  • 25% reduction to skill activation time

Also:

  • Give a 5%/10% Morale Boost to the whole party
  • Remove 5%-15% Death Penalty from the whole party
  • Remove all Death Penalty from the whole party and give everyone a 10% Morale Boost
  • Resurrect all party members within earshot to your location with 25% health and 0 energy.

[edit] Ways to fix the situation

See User talk:Gem/Request for balancing PvE#Solutions for a good list with some thoughts on solutions. The list presented below is out of date.

[edit] Re-balance PvE-only items

This is my favourite.

Implement some drawbacks to the items to make their use a win-lose situation. The drawbacks could counter the bonuses from other PvE-only items, making the use of multiple items unnecessary since they would just counter each other, or the negative stuff would keep piling up.

[edit] Increase the cost and lower the drop rate

Another solution would be to drastically increase the cost of these items when bought from NPCs and to lower the drop rates of these items during holiday events. With a smaller supply players couldn't consume these items all the time. Instead they would need to save the items for the hardest parts.

[edit] Only one PvE-only effect at a time

This would remove the possibility to get huge bonuses by using multiple different items. It doesn't solve the issues with items like Powerstone of Courage and Essence of Celerity which is the single most over powered item, but it's a start.

[edit] No PvE-only items in hard mode

This makes hard mode challenging and worthwhile again, but at the same time lets players to use the items in regular play, keeping normal mode easy and fun for everyone.

[edit] No PvE-only items at all

This could work too, but would leave a hoard of unsatisfied players with stacks of unusable items.

[edit] <Your suggestion here>

I'll add suggestions from the talk page here.

[edit] Other issues

Not directly related to the PvE-only items, but I'd recommend reading User:Racthoh/Ursan Blessing.

[edit] Petition

I would like players to sign here if they want the PvE mode made harder once again. The exact methods can be discussed on the talk page.

You can also use this user box to support the campaign. (Suggestions for a better user box are welcome, this one was done pretty quickly)

  77. (ingame= General Murgahn) please a-net nerf ursan. Elite areas are meant to be for the ELITE not for the people that can't play the game very well. The ELITE missions/dungeons aren't very elite when a group of 6 ursans and 2 hb monks can go in and tear up the place with little to no effort. unfortunately, i know you are not goign to read this :) 24.22.235.171 23:18, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
