From Guild Wars Wiki
Generally I like the idea of the Hall of Monuments. It's a good thing for those who have invested a lot of time and effort, not to mention money into Guild Wars and Anet. I don't like a couple of aspects of it, mainly the Valor monument and the Destroyer Weapons only issue. I have been on several discussions, being as is usual to me, a bit of a hot-head and probably over doing it a bit with my comments, yet I only do so over things I like.
Personally, I think the Hall of Monuments should be totally user controlled, no limit to what goes in, whether its basic armours or Elite sets. Basic weapons, end game greens or anything else in between. As Guild Wars 2 connections to the Hall haven't been fleshed out, as far as I've read or heard, or had Gaile mention (I think I annoyed her a bit though *whoops sorry*) I think ANET could do this.
In regards to the Hall of Monuments and Anet's lack of relevant information on this I keep thinking of the building of a bridge. The HoM is the bridge from the banks of Guild Wars to the banks of Guild Wars 2, and you never build either end of a bridge without a plan telling you how the bridge is going to built, what its going to look like etc. But, I must question, where is Anet's plan? It seems they just rushed the HoM into existence and skipped the meeting where they discussed how the playing community might react to it and what those reactions might be.
[edit] Valor
There is a lot of voices out there wanting to put their weapons up not Destroyer weapons. Everything else isn't limited in such a way. Yes, Resilience is elite armours only but thats more doable for players than I think 11 Destroyer weapons would be (given the GWEN armour sets as so cheap etc). as it stands this monument only appears to be a grind and time sink so Anet will continue to have players. A bit of a gamble if this is the case as players may see this as a time sink and go why? Then go somewhere else.
I'd like to see some of my Dwayna's Grace up there for my Dervish's Hall, and the other greens and golds my heroes use as they're true to the character, more so than Destroyer weapons that I'd never use and probably only get for the monument and destroy afterwards. I'd have no use for them and more importantly no room for them, as it stands I have little to no room in storage or storage characters. It would take me months to get the materials and gold together to get all of what I need for all 11 weapons space, and for what, to put up there and destroy because I have no room to keep them. That's not a sense of achievement, a sense of achievement would come if I had a use for them as well, but I've played Guild Wars enough before GWEN and already got nice and comfortable weapons for me and my heroes.
Valor could actually be something very special and unique for each character a player has. I'd probably show my Hall to more of my friends and say: "That's my Dwayna's Grace, I've used that to defeat almost every creature I've faced through all campaigns." Everyone on Guild Wars has spent a lot of time playing and has many stories to tell about the fun times, and frustating times, they've had playing. Why take away from that with something that ignores all that?
My idea for Valor would be to make it so it accepted all weapons regardless of it being white, blue, purple, green or gold. The weapon would be displayed with it initial name (such as what happens now with modded Destroyer weapons). Doing this would actually mean something to the player. And, if your Guild Wars 2 character is to 'inherit' these weapons in Guild Wars 2, you could take (the now) relic from the monument to an weapons crafter and he/she would craft it into a Legacy weapon in a style (perhaps each worldspace like Elona, Cantha etc) typical to that area or even the original owners original campaign. This way, in the end, it really didn't matter in terms of Guild Wars 2 what actually went in they become a legacy weapon that only player from Guild Wars can get. Or even have levels of 'legacy weapons'. So if you put a white weapon on the monument it would just be the skin (no mods), if you put a blue or purple in maybe a mod or two on it, a green or a gold maybe it's a blank fully modable version. I'd like that, that's for sure.
