I started playing in May 2005, right after Guild Wars first came out. It might sound cliché but I still remember when I first saw the Guild Wars box in my local game store. I had no idea what the game was, but thought it was a huge game that had been out for a long time because that particular store trades old and used games too. But I liked the box design (with the folding, the screenshots and art,...) and the whole concept of a real role-playing game (as opposed to Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2) was really attracting, so I went for it, thinking the worst case scenario would be if it was full of "1337 anti-newb" players who would hate me for being new after the game had been out for a long time. And even after I installed it and played during the summer it took me AGES until I found out that I had actually bought the game within a month of it's initial release. But, thanks to that, I've played an amazing game for over 3 years and found some of my absolute best friends whom I owe a lot to.
I came upon GuildWiki after in-game players started referring to it when I asked questions about different things, and after just a few uses, I began referring to the Wiki whenever I didn't know the answer myself or a player wanted more information. I do not think very different between GWiki and the official GWWiki, but I've used GWiki more since it came first and was like a default for a long time. Only since the Wikia deal have I started using the official Wiki more than the old one. But I still tend to only check on armor art and skill locations and forget about my user page and logging in. Heh...
