The idea of this page is to give more depth (than Guild page) related to maintenance, how to achieve specific goals and what problems may encounter ahead.

Guide: Guild Making[edit]

In the beginning,... (the Earth was without form, and void.)[edit]

The first step is the easiest of all:

Create a name and tag[edit]

Choose a name attractive to players enough to feel proud of being in. The same applies to tags which will always be attached to each member's name. As Guild Wars is battle-combat-fight game, words refering to this theme are popular. Follow this link to find most used terms:

Create a cape[edit]

Play with the options provided by the Guild Emblemer: Shape, detail, emblem and their colors. Two suggestions.

  • Brightness: Too shiny colors will often act as a mirror to players under strong sunlight, becoming the same inconvenience as any reflection object while driving a car.
  • Contrasts: Gamers who engage in PvP will have their cape turn blue or red. If the contrast between colors is low the design will lose definition. Black & White capes are the perfect example.

Guild Hall[edit]

You dont need to have it full of NPCs but at least the most basic should be provided: Xunlai Chest, Merchant and Rune Trader.

A Dedicated Leader ...(to harness the power of the land)[edit]

Anyone performing the first steps can become a Leader, and as we all have witnessed, guilds rise and fall all the time. The founder has to be the most "pushing" player as will be watched by others as an example or model. In community talks, guilds are often refered to by its head.

Recruiting[edit]

Involves spamming advertisement messages. Frequency and placement are important, but the most valuable point of consideration is "what" the line says: Some guilds include name and/or tags as identification. The requirements (activity/donations/capability/age). A description (faction farming/speed clear). The group (mature/laidback). The offers (runs/teachings/VoIP/web).

Faction Farming[edit]

Clans willing to own a Town will need to achieve a specific amount of points for entry in an alliance. One single person can Faction Farm enough to upkeep a guild, as it only requieres to collect the same tax percentage which is 10% of total. For example, a 1million guild will only need to gather 100k factions per day to mantain good status.

Attention[edit]

Leaders and officers need to be good listeners and hear/read new member's requests. Unhappiness will result in gamers leaving the group and a waste of recruitment efforts.

One single player should be more than enough to handle all the points mentioned above. But of course it can become a heavy weight through longtime. This is were officers come.

Officers ...(to build a legacy)[edit]

Officers are other players who can support the aspects previously listed. The selection process of candidates will determine the success of a guild. Desperate promotions commonly result in high price problems. Recommendations are: Membership period (how long has somebody been part of the group). Popularity (gamers who have sympathy from others). Performance (accomplishments), persons who are pulled up and spend their times just looking cute, often contribute "nothing" and disencourage cooperative behavior. Which is why demotions take effect.

Providence ...(that would stand the test of time)[edit]

Organised teams (with a Wiki page, VoIP, Website/forum) usually have better results as coodinated efforts develop tasteful fruits.
