Help with user page[edit]

How do you make a page like this.... for your account... |: | --Nightbringer Minion 01:32, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Nightbringer MinionNightbringer Minion 01:32, 5 January 2008 (UTC)--

You can start by clicking on edit and then looking at the wiki code I used. Basically, something like some name means page transclusion or a template. You can read more about templates here. If a page includes templates, you can scroll all the way to the bottom (below the save page button), to find a list of templates that are used in the current page you are editing. You can click on them to take a look at all the templates my user page uses. I used quite a bit of templates so when you see how templates work, then you'll more or less figure out how my page got constructed :) Also, if you're interested in browsing for more user pages, take a look at Category:Users providing user page layouts as well. -- ab.er.rant sig 15:27, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

So.... how exactly do I copy the templates (assuming I have your permission |Also assuming I even have an account page)?_Ohh and the way i added pics for your Istani landmarks ;) --Nightbringer Minion 23:15, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

My Istani landmarks? I don't remember :) thanks for contributing. It's what it is all about - filling in the gaps. Anyway, your user page is right here: User:Nightbringer Minion (what you're signing with). You copy by going through all my pages starting from User:Ab.er.rant and clicking on edit, then copy-pasting it to your own user page (changing all "Ab.er.rant" to "Nightbringer Minion"). Then you save your new page, and click on the new red link, and then look for the corresponding link in my user space, click edit, copy-paste, save your new page, and repeat until you've gotten rid of all the red links. Like I said, I use a lot of templates in my user space so it's best that you know how it works. The previous category link I point out, some of the users there also provide instructions on how to use their templates. My templates are organised in a way that's just a personal preference but it might seem confusing. For more details on user pages, take a look at GWW:USER too. -- ab.er.rant sig 02:32, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Just some positive criticism[edit]

This is not to be taken personally, but one thing I have noticed about your replies is that you jump to a conclusion without reading the full comment. A lot of the comments on this website are sometimes pointless and not even worth while reading, but it still helps out if you read the entire thing and than post what your opinion is than posting something and than apologize for over reacting and missing the point of the comment. As I said earlier it's nothing personal just some positive criticism and keep up the good work moderating this website.Highway Man 18:29, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for being honest. I try to keep that tendency in check, especially when I'm in a less-than-stellar mood. If you found that I've done something like that fairly recently, let me know. I'll go apologize (if I haven't already). Thanks again. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:13, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Argghhhh... Please help![edit]

Hey matey,

I'm being a complete and utter noob and trying to organise a project for myself on my own user page but I think I've made a balls of it. I need a persons who oppinion I respect, to give me input on what im doing and perhaps if their is better way to achieve my aim and that dubious honour seems to fall to you matey, if you have the time. I've set myself the goal of trying to ascertain how the free treasure chests in nightfall work, thus to accomplish this I have to keep track of certain dependant and indpendant variables, thus i came up with the following: User:Salome/Ignis/Treasure However i've repeated this template over my 10 charecter pages and I'm worried that i may have broken some user space rule by having too many subpages or going over a certain limit or something like that. Any help or advice you could offer on this would be appreciated matey as dont want to break wiki rules without knowing. cheers -- Salome 00:28, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

No worries :) We don't really bother with trying to restrict how many user subpages a user creates. The size constraint applies only to the main user page and that's only for concerns of slow loading, so you're mostly free to structure your user space however you see fit. And in all honesty, you don't have a lot ;) I myself have way more than you :P And I've seen a couple of other users who have slightly more than me too.
And regarding your project, you might find the info on Talk:Treasure to be useful, specifically on people noting how the amount of gold drops and how often they wait (and spend time playing GW elsewhere) before opening again. I personally believe that the "calculations" involve several factors and not as simple as how long you've waited. And there's also the datediff template that you might find useful. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 00:41, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
thank you kindly for taking a wee look. I feel a lot better now that I know im not breaking policy considerations. Thank you! oh one other wee thing how does one go about seeing if they are elligible to vote in wiki elections. Not a scooby which of my edits count and which dont. Thank you again, for all your help mate it truly is appreciated. -- Salome 20:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
If it's GWW:RFA then any registered user can voice their opinion. If it's GWW:ELECT, then you'll have to open up your contributions and manually check if you have more than 100 edits - excluding edits in User, User talk, Guild and Guild talk. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:41, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

What Ab.er.rant's pointing to is that or tags can't be used, and an icon used in your signature must be reuploaded under user image naming conventions. For example, you could reupload the GuildWiki image as "User RAd1cal_EdwArd sig.jpg". Thanks, Calor (t) 01:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Shing Jea Island[edit]

I feel like you removed some relevant and useful information there. To me, that seems like the most intuitive place to look for characters that are coming from abroad and want to know how to get to Shing Jea Island. A lot of people may not think to look Seitung Harbor or may not even know about it. It was added in response to Help:Ask_a_game_question#Prophecies_Character_can.27t_get_to_Shing_Jea_Island...HELP.3F. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png

I don't deny there's useful info, I just don't like that section being on a region article. Anyway, I've reworded the intro text into something better. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 13:52, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
That's better. :) I still think a "getting there" would be much easier for lazy people to find, as I bet lots of people will not read the first two paragraphs, then will post on Help:GAME. Well, at least that article still has the info now. Biscuits User Biscuits sig.png 16:03, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Making own skill box[edit]

Making a (Guild Wars 2 ideas)sub-page of my main, a section is ideas for resurrection skills and I've looked at skill pages and copied what's been done there, but am having problems with putting pictures into them. When I add the name it has a red image.jpg or (name of skill).jpg but I stuffed up by just placing adding the image file with the name Unholy resurrection.jpg for example. It's been flagged for deletion and rightfully so, but I can't seem to out how to do those kinds of images within a skillbox as the name in the skillbox is directly linked to the image; every time I create a new skillbox and put its name it comes up with (name).jpg in red. Can you offer any guidance in this, I've looked at the image and template pages etc, but it breaks my brain at times. Thanks House Of Furyan 00:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Add an extra parameter in the infobox -
| image =
That seems to counteract the link to the name of the actual skill. --Brains12 User Brains12 sig.png talk 00:45, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Revertion[edit]

I was wondering, why did my addition of a misspell at Trampling Ox get reverted? The one big rule of quoting (which is what the skill pages generally does) is to quote exactly as it's stated, misspells and all. That's also what sic is for. Seeing as the in-game tooltip actually says "if you a hit a Crippled", I added the extra "a" together with a [sic].

Not that it was anything major, or that I even care too much about, just curious. — Galil Talk page 02:04, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I just wasn't sure which was correct and I don't have access to the game right now, so I decided to just rollback my rollback and let someone else take care of it :P -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeh not sure if you're gonna wanna thump me for this, but i've put you forward to be considered for the role of bureaucrat. (not sure if im allowed to do that but i read the policy and it didnt say that i needed a certain number of edits to put someone forward, so I'm supposing I am allowed) Anyway just informing you so that you can choose to accept or decline the nomination and if you do choose to run, GL to you mate! -- Salome 15:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Salome, appreciate it :) But I'd have to decline this time as I now see that several users that I strongly favor have already been nominated as well, so I'd just rather put my in support for them than contest with them :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

GWW vs GuildWIki[edit]

I wanted to give you my reasons for wanting to be different. First of all, the very first thing I tried to contribute to GWW was a quick access links table. I was immediately copyvio'd because it 'looked too much like the GuildWiki version' and was replaced with one that 'was in keeping with the 'style that GWW had adopted'. This after having spent more than 5 days working out the wiki code that would make the page. It has left a lasting impression on me. The other reason I would like GWW to maintain a separate (and better imo) style is I have taken unending grief from my guild/game friends, who view GWW as unnecessary and redundant to GuildWiki. So, I guess you could say I have a personal agenda. However, I don't believe it in any way harms GWW or the GWW community. If it can be pointed out where it DOES, I will gladly back off any position I hold personally in favor of what is best for the community at large. My issues with adding the profession icons to the collector pages though don't have as much to do with the style question as they do with consistency. If the weaponsmith pages are going to have them, the collector pages should as well. Or, in reverse, remove them from the weaponsmith pages. I hope this explains my position a little better.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 12:10, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

about the lack of content here: at first, it really was like that. if i wanted to know about a mission, i went to GW, not here. but imo, GWW can now keep up with GW even in that point, making GW kinda redundant :P - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 13:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
I think I can understand your perspective. I just got the impression that you're pushing very strongly to differentiate from GuildWiki. From my side, I don't really think of them as competing, but more an evolution, since the first big crowd of GWW users came from ex-GuildWiki users. As for consistency, I like consistency too, but I guess we still differ a little on that. I don't really tie the weaponsmith tables and the collector tables together I suppose, since collectors sometimes offer non-weapons, where profession icons won't make sense, so I thought if there is to icons, make it something that is more generally adaptable to all collector tables, like weapon icons (and I suppose we can use a generic inventory icon for the non-weapons), rather than not having icons for the non-weapon collector tables. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:34, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
I don't necessarily see them as competing, just as separate entities, even though most of the people that have built GWW were the ones that originally built GuildWiki. In that respect, I'd like to see things presented with separate styles, and have been slowly working towards that (or in some cases quickly), by adopting the style elements that have been put into use here, and dropping some of the style elements that were used there, i.e. dropping the color shading from the various tables and using the profession colors and icons instead. My preference for GWW stems mostly from the fact it is integrated into the game itself. It's primarily for that reason that I have become an active editor here. --Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 15:12, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
If the Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Inventory icons is finished, you can use every seperate original item icon for collector tables. (The style difference between the two wikis when integrating the icons into the corresponding pages was one of the reasons i kept at the back of my mind for this project btw...)ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:58, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Names on project pages[edit]

This got partly buried on the birthday list talk page: I do feel that there is a difference between listing people who contribute to a project and listing credits, but I agree that even listing contributers is somewhat strange. I don't think that those names are really needed on the project pages. It is just that they are not as damaging as a precedent with credits. --Xeeron 10:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

People have sometimes added me to those lists. I've insisted on removing that. All users are supposed to be able to contribute to all projects. That's sorta what a wiki is. Backsword 11:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
True, but I've always seen the list not as a "Credits List", but rather as a sort of "Contacts List" of people who have done a lot of work in the project so all people who are majorly involved in the project are promptly informed about some change in the project. Calor Talk 14:11, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Then we should name it "contacts lists." -Auron 14:17, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
All people can contribute to all projects. Any user can add their name to a project contributor list. Only one user can add their name to a "thanks for starting this article" section. —Tanaric 23:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
If you see them as a contacts' list, and not a contributors' list, then it should be an announcements section instead; no need for any names. I fail to see the problem with noting that a particular project was started by so-and-so user and then having a list of users who are the primary contributors to the project. These are community projects, not articles. If it makes people feel better, I propose moving all the project pages into the user space of the user who started the project. That way, no one will have reason to object to having names there. Best example is User:Gem/Wiki improvement. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 00:32, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I doubt anyone will feel so strongly as to propose all projects be moved to the userspace. But then again, you never know. I'm fine with the naming or functionality of the Contributors section being changed, if people want it to be. Go ahead in your sandbox or somewhere on a layout for an Announcements section if you want, and bring it up at Guild Wars Wiki talk:Projects. Calor Talk 00:43, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

You cannot claim ownership of an IP address. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:31, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Well that is true....but some people have a static ip adress. But I should be logged in as DM, so NP I guess -DominatorMatrix- 07:35, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Even so you do not own it. Your ISP does. As such, they can change your IP anytime, even if you have a static IP. — Galil Talk page 07:36, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
W/e I'm not up for an argument. -DominatorMatrix- 07:39, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Triple Shot[edit]

How so I get it to only display one icon, instad of bolth Triple Shot.jpg --Amantis 18:11, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Short answer: You don't, but it raises a good point that they should be split up (I thought they were...). Longer answer: It's possible with some tweaking. For the top image, try: <div style="overflow: hidden; width: 64px; height: 64px;"></div>. For the bottom one it's a bit more tricky: <div style="overflow: hidden; width: 64px; height: 64px;"><div style="position: relative; top: -64px;"></div></div>. — Galil Talk page 18:17, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Wow code, but I could have Sworn I saw people with one on their userpage and the text said "Triple Shot (Luxon)" or (Kurzick)--Amantis 18:21, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

So they are split up. Thought it was odd they weren't. :P — Galil Talk page 18:41, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Ah, so we now see Galil's priorities. Code, or common sense? Code :) Calor Talk 18:10, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, what can I say. One has got to specialize. :P — Galil Talk page 13:51, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Chronomancer[edit]

may I ask why u redirected it? --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 17:11, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, for one, it's not an NPC. The only thing we know about it is that it might have been a concept of a new profession in Utopia. And since all we know about it is already in that section, it seemed more appropriate to just redirect, rather than copy and paste that short paragraph. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 17:14, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
May I ask a question? I am one of the many who explore the gw.dat file, but I am one of the few who specifically searches for Guild Wars Utopia lore. Say I was to find some particular information about the Chronomancer could I recreate the page without the redirect....just a question, I am not saying I have found anything >.> <.< --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 17:18, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Yup, most definitely. I'm opposed to having it as a separate article primarily because there isn't much for it to stand alone. For stuff that's currently relevant in-game, I'd be fine with stub pages. But not so for subjects that most users won't even chance upon. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 17:23, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars Wiki talk:User pages/Change 1[edit]

I actually agree with u on that, maybe I should consider moving that as a proposal for GWW:CONTENT --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 07:53, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

But now that I think about it it should be in both. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 16:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

DE seems to have abandoned this. You made yourself something of a cosponsor. Are you going to take over? Backsword 11:30, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

There hasn't been much dispute on the way sysops have been acting lately so there's no urgency. And most of the active users don't want to be bothered with it. I'll try to summarise all the discussions so far when I have a little more free time for it. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:06, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
