Just why?

Do you have a temp talk page? -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 06:59, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

And by the way, isn't both the formatting and use of Anet logos a bit misleading for random users?. A userbox is fine, but you may be overdoing things a bit :/--Fighterdoken 07:03, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
I would agree, as well as having the Anet logo in the upper right corner, where it interferes with the dismiss link for site notices. Stop with the Anet wannabe. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 07:11, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Also, your comments of what you do on the wiki are blatantly false as you (Chris Malone) have not done any of those things. Stop confusing people, and decide whether you want to be Lacky or Chris Malone. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 07:37, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Excuse me?! How dare you? If you would actually read something for once instead of just accusing and jumping to conclusions, you would notice that I stated that I usually do it on my other account (and I have linked to that account). I like having more than one account, I am allowed to have more than one account, so please, stop pretending that this is such a big deal and that I am breaking the rules! Just leave me alone for once in your life. That goes for everybody. -- My Talk Chris Malone 09:00, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
You still haven't answered my original question? WHY DO YOU HAVE A TEMP TALK PAGE? It's not like you get so much traffic here you require a temporary archive to hold the overflow. The Arena Net staff have them due to the shift of their userpages from the User talk namespace to the Feedback talk namespace when the Feedback space went live in September and as they get the old topics archives, they go away, and the links to them are removed. Once again, I see it as a self-grandiose copycat of a staff wannabe. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 10:42, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
It has been removed. -- My Talk Chris Malone 10:53, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Why do you care? - Mini Me talk 11:17, 26 December 2009
It started out as an honest question that came up as I was fixing his talk page design as he requested, because I really couldn't fathom the reason behind it, and then with the points that Fighterdoken brought up it seemed relevant. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 11:36, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Well at least it is all sorted out now. ^_^ -- My Talk Chris Malone 05:23, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Policy violations

Hey Lacky,

I know you're really into having the two accounts (for reasons I don't quite understand), but the way you're using the Chris Malone user is at best distracting and at worst misleading. Other members of the community have asked you to tone down the ArenaNet stuff and you've refused, saying it wasn't against the rules. Though this violates my normal style, I think what you're doing violates at least three of our policy statements:

  1. On GWW:USER, under "Content Restrictions", "Material in breach of the wiki's policies or the game's terms and conditions." is listed as not permitted. In the Guild Wars terms and conditions, it is forbidden to " impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, an NC Interactive employee, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;" Your ArenaNet header and userpage design is confusingly similar to ANet staff member user pages.
  2. On GWW:USER under the Etiquette header, it states "Users should focus their time and dedication on Guild Wars Wiki-related contributions.". You appear instead (in the context of the Chris Malone userpage) to be focusing your time and dedication on roleplaying an ArenaNet employee. Further, the next sentence states "Be considerate of other users' requests to tone down or trim down your page and try to avoid controversial content and/or representation of content.", which I think clearly applies here.
  3. On Project:Copyrights, under trademarks, it states that trademark "use here does not imply that you may use them for any other purpose other than for the same or a similar informational use as contemplated by the original authors of these articles under the GFDL licensing scheme." Your use of the ArenaNet logo does not appear to meet this requirement.

I realize that policies are up to the interpretation of the sysop enforcing them, and that one might argue different interpretations that allow your content, and so I don't want to get in such an argument here. Instead, I simply appeal to your judgment and hope that you'll voluntarily cease this bizarre userpage fantasy so that such a policy argument doesn't have to occur.

Hey Tanaric, thank you for the message, and the evidence/statements. No one else has brought the above statements to my attention yet, so I thank you kindly for it (you've gone up in my books! =P). As of right now, I do not want to cause, or be apart of any more wiki-drama, so I hope we can resolve this quickly and pertinently. I just want to clear some things up before I continue though. You state that I refused to do so. Although I did not do as others asked me to do, which in a sense, is refusal, I believe that at that time I was well within my grounds not to do so, however now you have provided this, I have thought differently. As for your first statement regarding GWW:USER, that what I have done is not impersonating ArenaNet staff. It specifically states "wishes", and as far as that other image goes, it's just an image positioned at the top of my page. However similar my page may be, it is different and unique. Your second point about GWW:USER is fair and I can see why you stated that, however, my opinion on that is, it is under the "Etiquette" heading, and thus, is not law, despite being within the policy, it is just what most people do. As for your last point on Project:Copyrights, I am just going to be blunt and say that I do not 100% fully understand that. I think I understand it, but I am not fully sure. However, I shall take your word for it, as you have the right to your own opinion and I respect you. In any case, not regarding my above/previous comments, what would you like/have me to do? I shall do it if it does break the rules/breach the policies (as you have seemed to have proven above). -- My Talk Chris Malone 11:59, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
The only specific action I recommend is removal of the ArenaNet logo from your userpage, as in the context in which you use it, it is very misleading. Most people skim over pages, so the fact that the words next to it say "wishes" is irrelevant, in my opinion. Wyn and Fighterdoken have also expressed concerns about that specific header, so I think it's a reasonable compromise.
Other than that, I agree that your userpage is a matter of interpretation, so I ask simply to be mindful of what others request. Personally, I think all 30ish of the Chris Malone accounts go against the spirit and intent of the wiki -- that is, instead of roleplaying a character within Guild Wars (which we allow and support), you're roleplaying a developer on the Guild Wars team, which is outside our scope -- and with that in mind I'd advocate their deletion, but I won't push for that on my own and make an issue where none is. If, however, community members in general suggest a similar track, I'd hope you'd be receptive to consensus.
Thanks for responding so civilly!

Alright so just the header/notice at the top with the "wishes" part or the actual logo just by itself at the top of the page as well? Also, it's only like 5-10, not 30ish, but that is irrelevant. -- My Talk Chris Malone 01:38, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
16+* (Lacky, Chris Malone, LaCkY, Chris MaIone, LaCkEy, ChristopherMalone, ChRiS MaLoNe, Christofer Malone, Christopher m, Christopher M, Christopher malone, Christopher Malone, Chris m, Chris M, Chrism, Chris malone). Which is assuming User:The Real Chris Malone isn't you. – Emmett 01:53, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
No, I do not own all the Lacky variations, just this one and as said above, that is irrelevant. -- My Talk Lacky 02:14, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Really that just adds more to the argument that having/using so many accounts is disruptive and confusing. – Emmett 02:20, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Both the header and the logo at the top. You can keep the header if you like, but please don't include the logo image (or another image similarly misleading). Thanks! —Tanaric 03:56, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Alright done/will do. -- My Talk Chris Malone 04:00, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
