sigs on guild pages
As per Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Formatting/Guilds#Credits_on_Guild_pages, your signature really shouldn't be appearing on numerous guild pages throughout the Guild: namespace.

- I do realize that but it's alot faster to type ~~~ than typing [[User:Eloc Jcg|Eloc Jcg]], correct?--§ Eloc § 02:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- The point is that credits aren't supposed to appear on articles at all, no matter how you put it =\ MisterPepe talk 03:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- You missed the point: your name shouldn't be on the page at all unless it's part of the leader/officer listing. Content credits are not supposed to be on article pages.

- Well what if I got those people to add my name then? It's in the GNU Free Documentation License. "...this License preserves for the author and publisher a way to get credit for their work..."--§ Eloc § 03:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Also, couldn't people just not butting into talk pages? Not to be mean but edit conflicts suck.--§ Eloc § 03:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- That's what the edit history is for. It keeps track of all edits that you've made to a page, so there's no need to add credits to the page itself. The edit history itself takes care of any GFDL attribution concerns =P MisterPepe talk 03:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well I got permission from those people.--§ Eloc § 03:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure what your referring to by "butting into" - conversations on a talk page are not limited to two parties. As for the GFDL, as MisterPepe already mentioned, the article History fulfills that role.
(Aiiane - talk - contribs) 03:10, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Added: it doesn't matter if you have their permission, it's policy not to include credits on pages. I can't give you permission to go against policy, they can't give you permission to go against policy, a sysop can't give you permission to go against policy, not even a bureaucrat can give you permission to go against policy. It's called policy for a reason. If you don't like it, propose a change to the policy, but until or unless it's changed, you need to follow it.
(Aiiane - talk - contribs) 03:12, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well what if I got permission from the people? It's just normal to give credit where due. As for butting in, it seems people just can't have one conversation without other people kinda joining in on it.--§ Eloc § 03:13, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Blocked for a day...
Hi Eloc,
I blocked you for a day to help you cool down and think about being more considerate. Here are some specifics:
- Don't argue with people simply because they are criticizing you or pointing out what they think are mistakes they made.
- You think Asia is poor and speaks Mandarin. No offense to your limited short-sighted and highly intolernat view of the world, that remark is very offensive in and of itself.
- This is the ONLY official wiki right now and its's in English so you can bet that the ENTIRE player base is reading it, not just those you consider English speaking.
Please take this time to calm down and think twice about engaging in racial/political/linguistic/economic devaluation of other nations. Everyone counts, and everyone counts just as importantly. --Karlos 19:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Are you serious?
Really? Your opposing votes on the RfAs seem just like a bitter revenge for the opposition on your bureaucrat nomination or something. Being admin on both GuildWiki and Guild Wars Wiki is more of a positive than a negative thing. :D --
(gem / talk) 20:20, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed... it proves that they have been deemed capable of using the powers that come with being a sysop correctly on at least one other wiki, for a start. Besides, most grandfathered sysops are inactive on GuildWiki. --Santax (talk · contribs) 20:41, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- No Gem, I'm not opposing votes on the RfAs for bitter revenge for the opposition on my bureaucrat nomination or something. I just think if you're a Sysop on both, then you won't have as much time to spend on each one rather than just being a Sysop on one and being specialized.--§ Eloc § 22:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Being a sysop doesn't take your entire day, and there are plenty of people there to back you up. It's not difficult to check both wikis periodically while you are on the computer. - BeX

- Well, it couldn't be based on a "revenge" thing - I didn't vote against him (or course, I didn't vote for him either). As a general rule, I usually choose not to vote on RfA's or bureaucrat elections unless there are extenuating circumstances. As a sysop, my voice shouldn't carry more weight in discussions or votes - but I've seen in the past that some people can be swayed by the votes of those that they perceive to be in a position of authority. True, I get very involved in discussions on articles and policies; but in my mind, those are different situations than votes.
- As for a person's ability to sysop on two or more wikis or forums; Eloc is entitled to his opinion on it. Despite multiple arguments presented to him, he has held firm to his position, and I can respect that. If it comes up after the reconfirmations, I may post my thoughts on the subject later. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 02:50, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Why not just put your vote in near the end of the voting period, after most people have made their own decisions? --Rezyk 03:07, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- There's something that I don't understand in your reasoning Eloc. Instead of having lots of well known good sysops that split their time between two wikis you would like to not have those sysops at all? Ie you are countering the 'too little time they could use' with taking the time away completely? Lol at that. :D xD (Btw, most of them are only active on this wiki anyway. You didn't even bother to check their contrib histories at GuildWiki before voting) --
(gem / talk) 21:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, if they're not active on Guildwiki, then why do they still have Sysop powers? It's not like you use them there if you're only actove on this one. They could be giving them to someone else who is just on Guildwiki and is an active contributor.--§ Eloc § 21:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- There isn't a set number of people who can have sysop tools at once. There's no need to demote someone to "make room" for another person having sysop tools. -Auron 03:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Headers
I'm trying to find mention of the header you added to King Adelbern within the Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/NPCs guideline, but not seeing it. Have these changes been discussed? If so, can you point me to the discussion? --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 01:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
They make a lot of white space like that, are they really necessary? You have redundant information with the info box with the name and the profession, and most of the information could be contained within the article and probably is. --Lemming64 01:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Not to mention, age? relative to what? The start of prophecies is about 5 years before the end of Nightfall on the timeline. --Lemming64 01:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

- :(, well why not? Everything else is copied from the manual, why not the headers to? It's best to have as much info as possible.--§ Eloc § 01:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- The format it is in is not ideal, really something like this needs to be discussed on the npc formatting page and tested out there to see what people would like. The main thing is that two infoboxes is going over the top. If it is repeatable information for most npc's or even some, an if statement could be added to the existing infobox to include the extra information. Otherwise what is wrong with just including it textually in the article itself. --Lemming64 01:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Adding information is a good thing, as that is the main focus of the wiki. I think the point being made here is that it doesn't quite seem complete in its current state, and should have been discussed in the appropriate place before being implemented. Virtually everything that gets added to articles that becomes a standard is discussed first, not just implemented. I also see from your list on your user page that currently the plan is only to add it for the Tyrian NPC's... what about all the others? - Thulsey

Devils Whisper Contact table
Hey Eloc, just wanted to let you know that the row for Vermillion is completely white on Firefox 2.0.0.4 (probably other too). The reason why is because their is no HTML or CSS color called Vermillion, so the background is instead the default (white). The only reason it works on IE is because IE tries to translate into hexadecimal or something like that. But in Firefox it ignores it and puts in the default background (white) which is under your text color of white. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
I would recommend specifying real colors otherwise a large percentage of people that visit may not see anything for those rows.
PS: Just checked with Opera 9.21, it does the same thing. --trekie9001 05:51, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- FYI: Here's a list of color codes that should, in theory, be safe on all browsers. Although, as you can see, I have some the the hex equivalents incorrect for a couple of them. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 05:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Maps for Quests
Can I ask 2 things wrt to your uploading of maps?
- Consistent naming scheme, see GWW:QUESTS for the suggested name format.
- Context/locations in images, e.g. show the outpost where quest starts from, or outpost nearest the first objective etc.
a few of your maps just look like (very small) random screen grabs that could have come from any location in kourna or vabbi. It's not as if maps have to be small, since the wiki will make a thumbnail of large ones to show in the articles. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 13:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Please don't do it, it never helps. Further on, if consensus is against keeping that piece of information in the article (as it is currently), then don't insist on adding it, as it's just disrupting; much better to discuss on that talk page until you get some others to agree with you that it should be added. Lastly, I suggest you calm down some and drop the aggressiveness a bit, it's just a wiki article, not the end of the world. Cheers. --Dirigible 22:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Warrior Test
Didn't see you added the walkthrough, sorry for that. Even though the quest formatting policy says to add what it says in the log book, there are 2 different ascalon regions one pre-searing and post-searing. Because this quest takes place before pre-searing it gets that region. Trust me on this one that is what needs to go there. --Sktbrd341 20:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Why not put in [[Ascalon (pre-searing)|Ascalon]] .--§ Eloc § 21:06, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- All the other quests that are in pre-searing have the same thing. Its easier for other people to see that the quest takes place in Ascalon (pre-searing) and not get lost when they read Ascalon. Or even if they would click on Ascalon and then the go to the pre-searing might confuse some people. This is how the quest boxes were set up before I got here and I have been following the same procedures. Best place to discuss this would be on the quest policy page. --Sktbrd341 21:09, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Your Userboxes
Hey, I was just gonna do it, but I thought I'd ask first. I can line up your userboxes into 11 1/3 rows of 3, which looks a lot neater. I'm guessing you know how to do this yourself, but I'm just checking. :) Have a good day! Mattman243 14:37, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Shing Jea landmarks
You seem to be updating/creating the pages for that long list of Shing Jea landmarks. This is just a heads up to remember to put the correct party size. You put "8" on the first three. Wouldn't want you to finish the entire list then realize they all have the wrong party size. That is, if those pages even need a party size, since they're really just part of an explorable area. Oh well, up to you. --Heelz 01:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- As for party size, it automatically does that if I remove the settings. There is no way around it atm.--§ Eloc § 01:19, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've tried to fix the location infobox to work with landmarks. Please tell me what else needs to be fixed :) (Oh, and btw, please put the real region as region, i. e. Shing Jea Island, since it will be categorized after region. The explorable should be in the description atm) - anja

Your user page
Currently infringes the user page policy,
"The combined contents on your main user page should not exceed 300 kB in total size. You can verify your page size simply by saving your user page with your browser and checking the resulting file size." by quite a lot, the main culprit is the rollerbeetle dance gif though in one of your infoboxes. Hooray for another C++ learner. How you finding it? I'm finding it a challenge but extremely rewarding. I've also been learning Pascal alongside it, without that I wouldn't have known where to start on C++. Do you have aspirations of becoming a games programmer like myself? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Hyperion .
- I am finding it quite tough as the book I'm doing it in seems outdated and didn't even give me all the library sources. Like it asks for something similar to
#include <iostream.h>but it doesn't come with the software so I can't get it all figured out completly. Good thing is, I'm getting credits for high school by doing it in Computers Class. And yes, I'm hoping to one day become a game programmer.--§ Eloc § 01:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)- Whats up, I am currently in my second to last semester for game programming.
