Hello everyone,

To help me keep my thoughts focused into one main status area, I've created a little mini-journal to give me a spot to drop quick status updates about what I'm up to. Image:UserEmilyDiehlGrin.gif

Even though I've been a bit slower to respond, please feel free to continue to send me questions and comments as usual!

As a general update, here's some wiki stuff that may be of interest to you!

Image Contributions
I'm still trying to get renders out as I have time! My laptop has been giving me fits, so I've had to format a few times. Because of this, I haven't had a chance to sync up art on that machine, and I'm limited to using my work desktop for renders. If there are any that require my attention as soon as possible, please don't hesitate to point them out to me on this talk page. For the rest, I'll keep chugging along.
Other Projects
I've had to bump a few of my projects onto my main projects page. I haven't forgotten about any of them, but I've had to shift priorities a bit for some of the bigger ones. If there is anything that you guys really need pulled from that list, just let me know. I'll continue chipping at this stuff as I have free time.
Bugs and Questions
We've managed to net Mike and his team for the wiki, so if you have bugs to report, he's your man!
Trivia
As always, if you guys have questions about trivia references, don't be scared to ask me to confirm or deny them. We know you guys put a lot of thought into figuring out the obscurities, so we don't mind helping out if you get stuck.

[edit] a Few questions

1. is the charr a recfrence to starcraft and the zerg? 2. what is the deal with the Wizard's Tower dose it have anything to do with the Asura? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:75.172.43.101 (talk).

Random? Lord Belar 21:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, not sure about these ones. Let me see if I can find out anything for ya. --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
thanks!75.165.99.144
another question why is it night in Vehtendi Valley? 75.165.117.200
For variety? -- Gordon Ecker 23:06, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
thats not realy a reason..... it would make more sence on a zone that their is only one way into. 75.165.117.200 06:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
if your not going to let me sign my comments because my ip changes. then don't delete my post.75.165.117.200
Hiya guys...just got some answers back about this stuff. Nope, Charr is not a Starcraft reference in any way. Also, the Wizard's Tower is not linked to the Asura. I'm going to have to double check about Vehtendi for you. I don't know if you're referencing me for the deleting posts comment, but I didn't delete anything. I'm innocent on that one! :) --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 23:00, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
i know it wasnt you by looking at the history log. anywhoo i think i worded the question about the wizards tower wrong, i wanted more background on it, the part about the asura was purely speculative. thanks for the answers, thus far!75.165.117.200 07:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
The comment's been re-added. I'm guessing it was reverted because the timestamps were wrong, and that the comment was removed by accident. And I think that "for variety" is a legitimate reason, Guild Wars has had day, night and dawn / dusk zones since Prophecies, I wasn't trying to insult you, just suggesting that it may be a purely aesthetic choice. -- Gordon Ecker 07:47, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
thanks, but in prophecies its not so drastic...i am trying to think of zones like that in the other two chapters and am comeing up with a blank.75.165.117.200 08:57, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
another question i though of is Markis suppose to be a refence to Indiana jones?75.172.43.176 00:17, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Heya anonymous! I just got word back that no, there is no particular reason why Vehtendi Valley is dark. Also, there is no correlation between Markis and Indiana Jones. Sorry! :( --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 20:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
thanks for the info! can you give any info at all about the wizards tower??75.165.111.218 22:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure thing! And no, unfortunately I can't provide any more details about the tower itself :) --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 00:53, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Missing High Res Armour renders.

Hi Emily, I know your busy but just a heads up that we're still missing the high res armour overview renders for a few sets. (You might have already have done them but if you have i can't locate them) It's just for uniformity sake it would be nice to have them. Like in some cases we have user images to fill those gaps however it just doesn't look the same as throughout most the pages theirs a nice theme of big spankey anet renders for the overview without a background and the charecter in a pose we dont have an emote for, an example of which can be seen here. Please find below a list of all the armours which are missing high res armour overview renders from yourself (It should be noted that some of these galleries do have user images on them but I think most people would prefer those replaced with the images that only you can provide us with):-

I know it's ALOT of work, but if you get some spare time it would be REALLY appreciated! -- Salome 20:47, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

i kind of feel like havening the high res renders makes n00bs and players who just haven't seen the armor before feel like they look better then they actually do. unless a screen shot takes a lesser quality image then what is seen in game. but i know that when i was looking at the Paragon Monument armor just the one image that they have up looks better in that then in the game, but also that armor along with a lot of the gwen armors have red bleading on them, when dyed any color other then red. that alone annoys the hell out of me but that is for mike to fix.75.165.117.200 06:53, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Thats a different issue and honestly if the armours look much worse than the high res renders on your computer, then thats a graphics problem your end. Alot of high spec computers handle the computer graphics fine. For example all of my armours look more or less exactly like the high def renders. As for the red bleeding, I agree its VERY annoying, but this isnt an issue for Emily, thats one for Mike as you said. -- Salome 10:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up, Salome! I am going to try to set some render time aside some night at the end of the week/next week to bang out some of these missing sets. I always mean to get to them, but the process is pretty time consuming and I get interrupted when I try to do them (especially if it's during the day) :) Sorry for the delay, and I'll add these sets to my queue. --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:19, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
i play guild wars on the highest setings. but still it dosnt look half as sharp as the renders. 75.165.117.200 22:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Oh Emily, I know im being a pain and my sincerest apologies but please could you also add all male elementalist armours to your list too hun? As they are all missing :) -- Salome 05:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Shields

Hi Emily. I was wondering if you could create a page for us for these two shields: 1 2.There both promo-items so its very hard for us to find info about it. Thanks :) ~ KurdImage:User Kurd sig.png 08:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

o.o I want that second shield. Are they still in-game? --MageMontu 08:38, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Thats weird, I thought i knew all weapons/shields and focii on sight but never seen those 2 before, i dont even recognise them as promo items. What promo are they from? -- Salome 10:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Some japanese stuff, don't know for sure ~ KurdImage:User Kurd sig.png 13:38, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Tyvm ~ KurdImage:User Kurd sig.png 19:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Hiya guys! I got back some information for you about these two pieces. The first shield was part of an old ATI promotion. If John's memory is correct, purchasing one of the ATI cards got you this "Ominous Aegis". He mentioned that they were really rare and that he doesn't really remember the details of it. The second shield is Hog's Gluttony. It was a Japanese pre-order item, and all of those names were named after the Japanese versions of the seven deadly sins. When I get a few moments, I'll try to grab some renders for you of the items. I'll also ask around to see if anyone remembers more details on the ATI shield :) --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 22:42, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot :) ~ KurdImage:User Kurd sig.png 12:17, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pet AI

Hello, this is Donny Rangers You, im not well known, i haven't been playing long. I am just keen to state my opinion on the Pet's AI, right now i find that the pet is lacking as the AI in my opinion is terrible. I also believe that the pet damage should be increased with the attribute of beast mastery as the attack speed is too slow. Thank you for hearing out my opinion, i hope something will be done on this :). --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:124.169.255.100 (talk).

Pet damage already does increase with higher Beast Mastery. -- Gordon Ecker 09:58, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your Userpage

Atleast i made different colors :P --Fox007 User:Fox007 14:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Ooooh, Lensor's page looks nifty as well! The reason my page looks like Emily's is basically because I didn't know anything about wiki coding before (I've always been more of a programmer than a design guy - I just hate CSS :P) so borrowing Emily's page design was just convenient. Plus, she fully agreed of course ;) I might change the colours though, good idea ^^ --Julien Crevits 10:40, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I'm not ashamed to admit that I totally stole Emily's page layout. --Regina Buenaobra Image:User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:39, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
There really is nothing wrong with a few people using it, especially if they are using slightly different colours or even different layout as Lem has done, the annoying part is when it seems that almost every single new user is using that layout as has happened with Lensor's. --Kakarot Talk 01:55, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh man. What's everyone going to do when I get off my butt and remake my userpage? o_O --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 03:17, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Funny - I didn't notice before because I only stole -moz-border-radius for rounded corners in firefox and did my own coloring and CSS (its probably apparent I don't design for a living), but it makes the page look completely ripped off. I'll do buttons instead of tabs, just to be original (or retro) ;) --Falseprophet 22:11, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Spearmen

I've "pecked around" in your archives (using the Search Funtion ;) ) to find an answer to the trivia regarding Ruricu and other Spearmen. Is it true they are named after the officers of The Spearmen guild? Vipermagi 18:55, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Ruricu the weapons crafter is indeed named after Ruricu, an officer in The Spearmen. I'm not sure what the "other Spearmen" are that you are talking about but odds are they were named after long time members/officers of the Spearmen as there are a number of NPCs named after them. - Image:User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 22:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Just wondering...

if Elona was a little bit inspired by the Kingdom of Dorne from George R.R. Martins A Song of Ice and Fire series. There is a particular section in the third book that describes three distinct types of people living there, the first being "Salty" Dornishmen who are said to live on the coast; Istan is an island and has quite a bit of coast to it. The second type being "Sandy" Dornishmen who make their homes in the desert and river valleys; Kourna ,along with the rest of Elona, has a lot of desert to it not to mention the Elon River running through it. The third and final type are the "stony" Dornishmen who tend to stick the the mountain; Vabbi does have a river and desert but looks to be the most mountainous of the three provinces. Another similarity is that short throwing spears are one of the preferred weapons in Dorne. Lastly, the ruling house of Dorne has its seat in a stronghold called "Sunspear".

I know that some of this is a bit of a stretch and the Order of the Sunspears is completely autonomous from any government, but when I read that chapter it just sounded so familiar to Elona I had to ask if there is any correlation between the two. -- BroodlingImage:User Broodling67 sig.PNG 02:35, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You may not be as far off as you think :) There are a lot of us here that are huge Grr Martin fans, so there are definitely references to his work slipped into the game. I know that Sunspears are one of them. I'm not sure about your other parallels, but I'll check on Monday. --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 03:15, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
While you're at it could you ask if Jora is partly derived from Ser Jorah Mormont. Ser Jorah was exiled from Westeros and the sigil of his house was a bear, while Jora was shunned for losing the ability to turn into her bear form. -- BroodlingImage:User Broodling67 sig.PNG 21:33, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Wow, didn't think Sunspears were a reference to anything. — Eloc 22:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Hiya Broodling! Just got a response back from the writers, and they confirmed that there are no other intentional GRR Martin references in your first posting, and that Jora is not derived from Sir Jorah. --Image:UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 20:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Eu Sweepstake

Hi Emily, first of all sry if I'm addressing this to the wrong person. Second I have encountered a little problem while filling the EU sweepstake form. On the last question, the one that asks 'Which products would you like to see more of in the merchandising store?' I chose Statues/Figures. However when I clicked on the submit button, the form didn't accept it, reset the answer of that question, and told me to choose an answer. After trying for 7 times I gave up and chose Gadgets, where finally the form was submitted. I wanted to bring it to your attention. --Mage Montu 22:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Should we maybe ask Linsey Murdock for that? The textures seemingly exist, possibly it's only a bug that prevented the armorers from offering it since the release?
Additionally, may i ask how you make the pictures of all these models? You seem to use a special program for that, as the mask is included in the armor image, yet not visible ingame. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:33, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
