Miscellaneous[edit]

Pointer to some comments[edit]

Hi. You appear to be a sysop. Can you take a look at Talk:Main Page#Important first steps at your earliest convenience? Thanks. Stabber 13:08, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Categories[edit]

Sure, go ahead and merge the two if you'd like.--Emily Diehl 15:56, 7 February 2007 (PST)

I don't see a need for Category:Protected pages and Category:ArenaNet protected pages. If you do not object, I will merge the two categories. — Gares 15:53, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Sysops[edit]

There are atleast three of the GuildWiki sysops (me, Xasxas256 and Tetris L) registered on this wiki but not yet sysopped. Now that you seem to be at it anyway, could you sysop us? (I think the other two have also e-mailed Gaile allready) --Gem (talk) 16:19, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Hi. Let me catch you up to speed: Tetris_L has explicitly not requested SysOps rights just now. The matter is for him to decide, but we have exchanged emails and I've not heard back with his decision. Both you and Gem are set up for SysOps. Please do direct any further questions to community@arena.net. Thanks a bunch! :) --Gaile Gray 20:42, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Desysop[edit]

Please remove my sysop status. I did not request it and while I expect to offer help to this wiki, it'll probably mainly come in the form of advice if someone asks for my opinion. --Fyren 18:10, 7 February 2007 (PST)

My apologies, Fyren. I believed that you had requested the status. I have reconfigured as you request, and thank you for letting me know! --Gaile Gray 20:44, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Regarding granting and removing sysop status, if you guys who have requests for either of the two could just send an email to community@arena.net , we'd be happy to make those changes :) --Emily Diehl 18:19, 7 February 2007 (PST)

We did send e-mail. I was just giving a small reminder. :) --Gem (talk) 18:21, 7 February 2007 (PST)
Oh, no worries! I just know that Gaile wants to respond to those emails, and that she can promote once she's replied.--Emily Diehl 19:40, 7 February 2007 (PST)
She had also replied but not acted. :) No problem thou as it has been done now. --Gem (talk) 01:05, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Introductions[edit]

Emily,

I'm Cory "Tanaric" Petosky, bureaucrat over at the GuildWiki. I've met Gaile and Mike before via telephone, but I've not seen your name around. Would you mind introducing yourself to the class? :)

Good to be working with you!

Tanaric 20:54, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Oddly enough, I'm also Cory. o_0 Also known as Jyro X. I've been a long-time user of GuildWiki and a frequent contributor. I also look forward to continuing that work here and getting to meet the rest of the staff. — Jyro X 20:58, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Hi guys...it's nice to meet you! This wiki is going to be a ton of fun. I'm really looking forward to it! --Emily Diehl 11:28, 8 February 2007 (PST)
  • Hello, I've also never really seen you before, but you seem like a nice person. Greetings! :) --Chiaro 21:36, 12 March 2007 (EDT)

Welcome[edit]

I am shocked (or just a little surprised) that no one has said welcome so far. Welcome! -- Dashface 01:29, 27 February 2007 (EST)

If I'm not mistaken, Emily was here before almost everyone else. Check out this page, she was the one welcoming all of us. :) --Dirigible 01:53, 27 February 2007 (EST)
Thanks Dashface :) --Emily Diehl 15:39, 27 February 2007 (EST)
Dirigible is right, and it turns out that I didn't do quite enough homework. What I really mean to say is that your contributions so far, Emily, have given me some much-needed optimism in regard to the success of this wiki. -- Dashface 19:03, 27 February 2007 (EST)
I'll be doing anything I can to make it great! We're as excited about the wiki as you guys are, so I'm glad that it shows. --Emily Diehl 19:11, 27 February 2007 (EST)
Agreed, the pictures posted thus far are fabulous! I can't wait to see what else will come forth. --Thervold 19:32, 27 February 2007 (EST)

You also win the internets[edit]

Thanks for all your work with images :) -FireFox File:Firefoxav.png 20:17, 27 February 2007 (EST)

Network block[edit]

Can you take a look at this message from User:Bexor?

It appears that he was blocked from the wiki at the ncaustin.com level. He says that he already sent an email to the email listed in the block message as well as to community@arena.net; but he asked me to also leave a message here for both you and Gaile. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:38, 2 March 2007 (EST)

Ooh, that's not good at all. I will make IT aware of this issue immediately so we can figure out what's going on. I guess that explains where Bexor went! I was wondering! --Emily Diehl 15:40, 2 March 2007 (EST)
Thanks for passing it along - he appreciates it! --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 16:05, 2 March 2007 (EST)
Bexor is a she! :) Kyrasantae 16:38, 2 March 2007 (EST)
My bad ... sorry Bexor! --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 16:48, 2 March 2007 (EST)
Oh wow! My fault as well! Just so you know, I posted the reason for the issue over on your talk page. Welcome back :) --Emily Diehl 16:52, 2 March 2007 (EST)

Comic Books[edit]

Hey Emiliy, you should add a list with what kind of comics you like : D Although if you say you're fond of the Metal Men, people will think you are just a very advanced bot : ) Erasculio 19:28, 13 March 2007 (EDT)

I just may do that :) Good reference to the Metal Men by the way! --Emily Diehl 19:35, 13 March 2007 (EDT)

Re: Nightfall Sealed Play cards[edit]

Thanks for looking into this Emily. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 14:14, 17 April 2007 (EDT)

Oh, while I'm updating the status of all of these things...Mike just got back yesterday, and I got to speak with him about the Sealed Play cards. He said that there are definitely plans to do the Nightfall set, but we don't have a date for it yet. I'll keep my ears open and let you guys know when these come along. --Emily Diehl 17:23, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
It has been some time since this post, and a sealed play tournament is coming up pretty soon (PAX). Are the cards available for NF skills yet? Theosebes 17:23, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh wow![edit]

Thanks for the advance update on the...well update! :D Lightblade 22:29, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Update notes and Hard mode page[edit]

Hi everyone! As you may have noticed, I've posted the update notes a bit early to the site, as well as created a page for Hard mode. I just wanted to mention that despite the fact that this Hard mode page was posted by a member of the dev team, that you all should still feel free to (and should) edit and add to the page as you play through Hard mode and find new stuff. Use the stuff I've posted as a base to make the article grow :) --Emily Diehl 21:45, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Neat! Do you know around when we should expect the update, and how big it will be? --User:AlbinobirdAlbinobird 21:53, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
!!!!! Emily, one thousand thanks for the Update Notes and the Hard Mode pages, they're both awesome! It's really cool to be able to see those while we wait for the update! Really really thank you : D Erasculio 22:09, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Indeed, thanks a bundle! ^_^ 99.245.143.39 22:10, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Pleasant surprise and thanks for the update notes :):D.--Bane of Worlds (talkcontribs) 22:19, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Creature info[edit]

Hello, sorry to bother again! I'm not sure if I should be asking this, but I figure it can't hurt. For a long time now there's been questions about the Prima guide and how they got the information that they printed in their guides. As everyone knows, much of that information is wrong/inconsistent not only with what can be found in the game, but also within the guides themselves. Nonetheless, they were also presenting much info that'd be incredibly difficult (next to impossible) to find out from a player's perspective. Foe species structure, armor levels, armor bonuses and resistances, damage types, that kind of thing. As you can see at Talk:Species, there's many questions without answers about even how to distinguish between the different species, which is probably the field where we as players have the most information available; figuring out the armor and damage statistics for those creatures would be simply out of reach.

To get to the real questions: How did Prima guide get that info, from ANet or through their own testing? If from their own testing, did ANet provide them with some kind of special tools for them to be able to get all that information? And the main question is: is there even a tiny bit of a chance for something like that to happen here on the wiki as well? What's the probability of us getting a species structure tree, someone willing to answer at least some of our many questions, a huge unformatted table of raw creature statistics data, an account on the test server with godmode+all kinds of "Of <species>Slaying" weapon upgrades for someone from the wiki to do the tests ourselves, I don't know... anything.

I'm not sure if any of what I suggested is even possible or existent, and I will take "no" for an answer. Thought I'd mention this anyways, just in case. Thanks in advance, regardless of what the answer is. Cheers. :) --Dirigible 06:47, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi Dirigible! The information that you asked about is something that we would have to provide, as it is not visually accessible through the game. The concern that our creature guys had with the updating of this information is the fact that there are thousands of creatures that would need to be researched and documented. Additionally, these creatures will sometimes be updated on our back end, and would therefore have to be updated on the wiki to make sure that the information is correct. The sheer amount of effort that would need to be put in to ensure that all of the information would be updated and correct would be pretty staggering, and the information in question definitely isn't in any format that would be able to be distributed externally. I might be able to do something in the future for either individual creatures or their overall species, but right now I am really swamped with GW:EN stuff and providing images and the like for the site. I'll definitely mull it over and see if there is anything I can come up with, though :) --Emily Diehl 14:24, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
Makes sense. Thanks anyways! --Dirigible 14:38, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Nice![edit]

Great job with your user page! It looks marvelous and is pretty unique. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:08, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, that's pretty cool :) LordBiro 16:15, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Thanks :) I'm going to work on it over lunch, since my old one was really irritating me. --Emily Diehl 16:17, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Do you mind if I redirect all the talk pages from those subpages, to your default talk page? - Drago-Shield-Mini.gif Drago 17:14, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
I was planning on doing it when I was done with the page, but if you want to now, go for it :) --Emily Diehl 17:16, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Done, and done. :D - Drago-Shield-Mini.gif Drago 17:19, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Thank ya sir! --Emily Diehl 17:20, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi Emily!

I am trying to set up a good personal page for wiki, but I don't really know how to. I tried to copy yours and edit it to get what I wanted, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can you suggest a guide or way to learn?

Thanks.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Blame the Monks .

Hi Monks! The best way to learn how to make new wiki pages is to just familiarize yourself with basic formatting and then work from the basics. Once you have those down, it's a lot easier to build cool pages by drawing from other people's page styles. My page is probably especially hard to mimic at this point if you're not too familiar with wiki formatting, since I use tons of templates, css, and mangled lazy-Emily html (which I'll clean up later, I promise) :) There are lots of people around here that are more than willing to answer questions (me included), so feel free to ask if there is something specific you're curious about. --Emily Diehl 20:17, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Gotta say, your page looks great! :) - BeX 23:20, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

User boxes are screwed up. They overlap.--Eloc 23:26, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Odd, they don't on any of my computers. You must be running a low resolution? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 00:30, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
Nice star too, it looks like it's from the 80s! :o LordBiro 04:06, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

I'm a bit too perfecionist, I know, but atleast on my 1400x resolution there are two minor laws in your layout. See this screenshot. Both should be pretty easy to fix -- Gem (gem / talk) 05:05, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Same gaps on 1280px for me - perhaps intended? Looks very nice that page! - MSorglos 05:12, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

I must say i absolutely adore your page. It looks great! I'll have to yank some ideas if you don't mind. Btw, it looks perfect on firefox, but when it comes to IE, there are a few mess ups, like that screen shot shows. ;)--Zemmy 12:52, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

The gap with the rightmost big box isn't there with Firefox just like Zemmy said, only with Opera and IE7. Wouldn't mind otherwise but I use Opera. :) -- Gem (gem / talk) 13:07, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

I like the progress page. I'm waiting for it to show that the Ritualist Armors are updated... (hint, hint). I assume the delay is because of those tattoos? -Spot 14:27, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Yes, it definitely looks a bit different in IE. We all use Firefox in the office, so I've really gotten out of the habit of doing anything for IE (especially after 7), since that browser just doesn't display css properly. I'll look into fixing it if I get a chance, although I'd have to figure out what's doing it.
And yes, unfortunately the tattoo issue is really making it difficult for me to get Rit, Necro, Monk, and certain Ele and Mes renders. I'm running into the dilemma of whether it's better to put up an incorrect or muddy-looking image or just not put anything up for the time being. I figured it would be better to just put nothing up in these cases. I really think that what we may want to do is have Bex or Anja (or anyone else, but those two stand out in my mind) take nice, uniform shots of the missing armor sets. Once I get the missing renders, we could always use those other images they donated on the detail pages. It's something to think about at least :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 14:44, 27 April 2007 (EDT)

Oliver?[edit]

O A bird tuxedo... That's so cool, any chance of photos :D? -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 21:08, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
You know, I've been meaning to get some new pictures of my birds anyways. I'll see what I can do about getting Oliver to pose nicely :) Sometimes (well, most of the time) he has a mind of his own. --Emily Diehl 21:23, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
No kidding, Scourge. But then again, she might harm Olivier by snapping photos of him, or at least, she might scare the poor bondy-bird. - Drago-Shield-Mini.gif Drago 21:36, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
Oh, he's not really scared of much of anything really :) He's the little brat that will jump up on the rim of my ice cream carton when I'm watch TV at night, or perch on the top of my laptop screen and laugh at me when I'm playing Guild Wars and not giving him enough attention. I'm more worried he'll realize I want him to stand still and intentionally run around just to spite me. --Emily Diehl 21:43, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Question[edit]

I cant get differnet pictures on my character profiles how do i put seperate pictures on each character? Jimmy 14:42, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

In a new line inside each of the {{NPC infobox}} sections in your page, add a "| image = [[Image:Filename goes here.jpg|200px]]" (without the quotes). --Dirigible 14:59, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

do u have to put that its part of My Documents and shit like that?

No, just the image filename, (e.g. User Jimmy R Paragon.jpg).
If you have more questions, feel free to either bring them up at Help:Ask a wiki question or just drop me a message at my talk page; that way we don't spam Emily's talk with this discussion. --Dirigible 15:34, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

Userpage width[edit]

When I look at your userpage on my 2nd monitor, running 1280x1024 with a bookmark tab, you're page looks to be too wide for my screen. Is this due to the Guild_Wars_Wiki:Reporting_wiki_bugs#System_messages-problem or is it something else? -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 16:19, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

It could just be the res, as my desktop runs 1600 and my laptop runs 1920. It shouldn't be related to the other issue, as my css is not calling anything from the main Mediawiki css. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:42, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
OK, just checking. I guess I'll just have to switch Firefox to my other monitor when I'm looking at your userpage. :) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 16:52, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

GW:EN question[edit]

I think I read somewhere that Eye of the North will have 40 new armor sets. Does that mean 4 different art types for each profession, or do male and female count as separate sets? I can't wait to see them. :) - BeX 08:52, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

I'm actually not positive on the details, Bex. Unfortunately, this is one of those points that I'm not allowed to talk about even if I did know exacts (although I can say that the stuff I've seen so far is awesome...we have some amazing artists around here). --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 14:17, 7 May 2007 (EDT)
This article has the number listed but I'm not sure if they got that from a press release or from a chat. I'm actually holding off buying armor for several characters in wait for the new sets. :) And because now it's so difficult to farm for money now that I can't spend the way I used to. :S I wanted Vabbian armor for one or two of my characters (sometimes I make a character just to buy an armor set for it, like a digital dress up doll, lol) but I think that'll take a while. >_<
On another note, do you think you will intend to have a Halloween contest like you did last year? I was kicking myself for missing it last time. - BeX 01:35, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
As far as I know the number is either from the PC Gamer article or another press release, generally Gaile repeats information already included in places like that for her chats ;) --Lemming64 12:00, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Userpage[edit]

I can't remember if anyone has asked you this before but is it ok to use elements from your userpage as long as credit as given? :) It is very lovely. --Lemming64 16:27, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Sure! Feel free to use parts of my userpage if you'd like to :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:41, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

May 11th Game Update[edit]

There's no "Vital Weapon change to 1 second recharge" in the update note on guildwars.com. Can you double check with the dev team whether this actually exist or intended to exist? Lightblade 15:09, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

Hi Lightblade. I spoke with Izzy and our QA team about your question, and they all tested and confirmed that the recharge for Vital Weapon is still 2 seconds. I'm not sure what you could be seeing, but as far as I've been told nothing was changed in yesterday's update. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 15:24, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
Sorry if I didn't make it clear before, but I was talking about the Update Note that you made on GWW game update page. Seems like Rainith already fixed it, but it's still good for you to double check it. It did seems awfully strange to see a skill change under misc. Lightblade 16:11, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
No wonder I was so confused! That edit was made by a wiki user after I'd posted our update notes, so it wasn't something that came from me. Well, I'm glad it was fixed in any case. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:17, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

Protection needed -FireFox File:Firefoxav.png 17:05, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

What is this?[edit]

Before I ask, let me explain what 'this' is. Its the sword wielded by Rastigan the Eternal, its featured on many weapon racks throughout Tyria, and it also pictured in the Nightfall manual being wielded by the "Balthazar Form" on page 20. I have seen this sword ingame for the longest time and have wanted it for as long as I have played GuildWars. Do you now what it is "Officially" called, and if it will be added ingame anytime in the future? --Counciler

Is this the item you're referring to? Image:User Scourge Ghostly Hero sword.jpg, if that is it, Bex found out it's actually an Axe (ghostly hero uses cyclone axe), and yes it is awesome and yes I want one :P -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 04:35, 12 May 2007 (EDT)
Even better, since I use axes nowadays. Still, I want to know if its being ignored by the devs, or if they plan to do something with it later... --Counciler
Doesn't realy have to be an axe, he used to use Cyclone Axe with his bow out too -FireFox File:Firefoxav.png 11:19, 13 May 2007 (EDT)
Ritualist weapon spells show it as an axe. - BeX 22:41, 13 May 2007 (EDT)
I'm not really sure what the plans are in regards to that item. I'll bring it up with the item team, but I won't be able to confirm or deny anything about what I find out anyways :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:21, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
Well even if you cant tell me if it's coming or not, please do see if you can convince them to add it in in some random update. ;) --Counciler

Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch[edit]

I just read that there is a monster called The Black Beast of Arrgh. So where did you folks put the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch in the game? ;-) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 20:38, 12 May 2007 (EDT)

Haha! I'm pretty sure we didn't go further with that, but I'll admit that I'd love to run around with one on my necro :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:28, 14 May 2007 (EDT)
Hehe, yeah, it would be pretty awesome. On the other hand, it would have been nice if The Black Beast of Arrgh's location was guarded by a white, fluffy rabbit. :) I guess Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail must've been the most favorite movie of most of the A.Net staff, with all those references of it in the game? -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 18:36, 14 May 2007 (EDT)

Your user page[edit]

Hey, I wanted to tell you what a lovely user page you have and ask if you mind me taking some inspiration (read: stealing your ideas) from it. I only have a userboxbox so far, but might expand on that in the near future. Thanks! Eerie Moss 12:47, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Aww thanks! And sure, feel free to borrow from my page if you'd like. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 13:26, 15 May 2007 (EDT)
Thanks, and I will of course give credit. :) Eerie Moss 13:42, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

Question about ParserFunctions[edit]

At my own wiki (1.10) i try to use the #expr: function and i get a blank page. I have seen that you solved this issue. What have you done? I have googled around and found no solution :-(

best regards from Germany --Theklaus 17:30, 18 May 2007 (EDT)

Hi Klaus! Unfortunately, I'm not really sure what your issue could be. As I am really unable to help you on your wiki, I'd recommend checking the Wikimedia help section of Parser Functions. They should be able to help you figure out what could be wrong. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 13:40, 22 May 2007 (EDT)

Thank you[edit]
