4 year anniversary

Hija Gaile, Tomorrow, 7th of januar we have our 4th year anniversary. Presents are welkom....a pve styled trim on the cape especially (good suggestion though)...ha ha...would be nice. Still looking for a nice date to celebrate... Gaile you are invited to come to celebrate with us just like last year...keep an eye on the mailman for an invitation. Didis 19:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh my goodness, is it four years for LLL already? How time flies! Congratulations to everyone, and I hope to see you soon. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:30, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Didis -- I never heard more about this. Did the anniversary celebration already take place? -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:56, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

The Halloween Frog

Gaile, I love your frogs, I know I know, one of a kind ! LOL But I was thinking, and maybe hoping, that the designer is reading this. But The Halloween Frog should have a wand ! and as small as it would be, and since it's a very rare frog, Why not put a small bit of glitter, when he moves it around. I think this would make the Mad Gaile Halloween frog truly Original ! Just a slight / itsy bitsy tiny / design improvement ! (Lady Xiena) Tina 07:39, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Monthly Tonics

Is there anything we can possibly do about the horrible, dreadful, AWFUL choices for monthly tonics? I mean, we're already getting a new tonic every month, so i'm not asking for developer resources or anything. I'd just like to...do unspeakable things to the person in charge of choosing tonics. Spider, golem, rift warden, ok, he started out alright, but then... is there something we can do about it? I mean, the latest is an asura. I get it, you have to promote the races playable in gw2, etc, (prob why we got the ugly norn too). But seriously, can't you give players what they want? I'm sure I can't possibly be alone in thinking most of the tonics are clear and total misses. SO many cool stuff could be done with tonics, and yet, month after month, it is a show of mediocrity. sigh. Thanks for your time :( 201.6.50.214 20:46, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Although I know a lot of players who hate the Asura, the tonic seems to be pretty popular. Meh, at least it's not a giant floating head. :\ (although that particular tonic raised the price of absinthe, which was gud) Vili User talk:Vili 20:48, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
It's not that i find asuran and norns repulsive. I think they make bad tonics. Consider some ideas: margonite sorcerer, essence of dragon, a djinn... I could go on, but everyone will have a different wish list. That's ok. But i mean, pick COOL stuff, wierd, different. We meet tons of asurans, and we will be able to make asuran chars on GW2. For now, let us have fun with something innovative for cryin' out loud. 201.6.50.214 20:53, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
You can't be an Asuran now, well, now you can. I bet that was on some people's wishlist, it's actually impossible to please everyone. Misery 20:59, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but are they even remotely trying to please most of us? I don't think so. I don't think a single instant of the time of this person who chooses tonics is spent finding out what people want. They don't CARE. that's what bothers me. They don't give a crap who wants what. :/
Hi. I don't want to seem to brush off your concerns because I do understand what you're saying, and I think you've put some thoughtful consideration into the matter. But this subject is so far out of my range, I feel bad that it's posted here. I can assure you that the team does care, very much, about what player think and care about. I wonder if you've considered posting on Linsey's talk page? I believe that as the designer for Guild Wars, she would be interested in your thoughts. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Sigh, that's ok. What I need to remember is that I'm not mediocre, average. Therefore, my opinion is usually off the curve. I.e - i'm sure there will be plenty of ppl who will like this. I won't. Such is my fate in life I guess. Thanks though. 201.6.50.214 22:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Awww, you're not suggesting that people who like the tonic are somehow mediocre or average, are you? I mean, it's a subjective matter, like what colour dye you use, what armour set you choose, or what hairstyle you select. Some will love it, some won't, but I don't think that their opinion of the tonic would categorize them outright, eh? ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:37, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
does this mean we'll get a charr tonic in near future? that'd be awesome imo. --Cursed Angel y so srs? 23:56, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I still want great destroyer, glint or abaddon' head tonic. --BTR 00:59, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I want the "random" tonic. A tonic that picks a random skin on each use: you could be an asuran, a norn, a big floating head etc and so on. Probably technically out of reach of the program in place but would be awesome. 118.92.180.68 04:31, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I want any tonic that will just drop for me. :P For such a cool thing, even the 'normal' ones don't drop that often. Maybe when they do drop, they could drop in packs of like 5 or 10? It's not like it would hurt the economy, plus you could get more uses for your 'valuable' key. Just a thought.--209.194.208.116 16:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Random tonic would be awesome, but not as an everlasting. That might as well be all of them combined into one item...Ashes Of Doom Talk 22:09, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

new winters day items

hey gail i was wondering if the new wintersday items will be added to the Secret Lair of the Snowmen chest it would be nice to be able to get the new tonics and stones even it the are a realy rare drop User:seth warmonger

Hi there. I have not heard of plans for this. You certainly could add it as a suggestion, though! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
haha buga sori gaile i still havent broken my habbit of running things past you befor making a post in the suggestion area old habbits die hard User:seth warmonger
I don't mind that at all. :) Frankly, I think it's a pretty sweet idea, but I would agree that it would be best to have those special items be really rare drops. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:02, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Could you also add the suggestion of ALL rare minis being introduced as rare Z Chest drops also? With the dedication/people leaving/hoarding/banned etc, that a slow introduction of a few would at least keep prices from becoming even more extortionate than they already are.

As I said earlier, your suggestions are welcome on the Suggestions page. Feel free to post this there, although it has been posted in the past so you should review the posts and archives before you do. Thanks. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:56, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I can admit it.

Well, I can admit it. Didn't think it would happen really. And it seems over-emotional to actually say it, or even to post it up here, yet then again I'm personally not one who likes to do things small.

I actually enjoy your talks you have with people, you're a pretty likable person. Just don't see this "Hey, I like you" as some attempt to go "Oh, he likes me, is this in an bad way?". 'Like' is probably not correct word in any event really, 'Respect' might be closer yet saying "I respect someone" is a personal choice that is a lot more complex for me to say and actually mean it - I'm a semi jaded-unemotional person really - so "Like" seems more fitting.

I actually miss you when you were in your old job, I don't considering Regina is doing half of the job you were/ even are now: this is not an attack on her its just that, from my point of view at least that role just seemed to flow a hell of a lot better with you than it does her. In a lot of my posts on your old page, as it were we butted heads more than anything else, though the memory those times is more for me than I believe you, which is understandable considering who you are in all this situation. This isn't to say you're not doing a good job where you are, the opposite actually.  :) You give off more of a sense of... of... well, you come across as one of the guys, in a way, there doesn't seem to be the "I'm an Arenanet employee talking to the community" sense with you that I get with Regina especially.

Even though I considered you a massive pain when I first started out here nothing could be further from the truth now as I came in at a weird time. You are missed even though you're not really gone... if that makes sense.

Expressing, clearly, isn't one of my strong suits. I hope my point has been expressed in a "non-weird"-"non-I'm attacking Regina" way. lol 118.92.180.68 21:02, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't sweat it, I think it's fair to say Gaile gives quite a few people the warm fuzzies. ;) -- Sirius (talk) 12:30, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Why do you think Linsey is so popular? Gaile's the only one who even rivals her at Anet. Regnina does her job for the most part, but doesn't add the personal touch. "This has been reported to the developers" gets tiring after a while. Linsey answers honestly, for the most part promptly, and isn't afraid to say I don't know. That gets topics like these. Gaile and Linsey seem to be the only ones who can take and make a joke and...<sarcasm> who is this mythic Izzy person anyways? Honestly, I've never seen him.</sarcasm> In conclusion, hats off to Gaile and Linsey. We've lost something without you. Kelvin Greyheart 22:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
I hope A-Net knows how incredibly lucky they - and the GW community - are to have employees as dedicated and passionate about their jobs, the game and the community as Gaile and Linsey. I definitely agree they are both exceptional - especially in their dealings with players on the wiki, I never thought otherwise. The only thing about Linsey being on GW Live team that makes me sad is that she isn't working on GW2. Both of you are a great benefit to GW. 122.111.17.191 10:08, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

So sayeth Sir Buttkiss and his merry band of suckuppers. :P Ok, yeah I have to admit though, they're right. But I'll cut Regina and the others some slack, since she had to follow in the footsteps of another in the waning months of GW1. Good job to all and good luck with your next endeavours, whatever they may be.--209.194.208.116 23:40, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Regina has bee given enough slack by the community already. Practically all she does is ignore everything, or give puppeted PR responses. I would bet money that the same question could be asked on Gaile's page as on hers, and that of the two, Gaile would respond faster, if Regina even deigns to grace us with her commentary, and that Gaile's response will be better. Same with Linsey. Kelvin Greyheart 13:15, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Take that!

Support Page

Your support page is the best drama on the wiki and I thoroughly enjoy reading it but, I wish users would post outcomes. In a way it's like being a loyal viewer of a tv show where you're only able to see the first half of each episode. I know that the support page isnt there for entertainment purposes but, it is very entertaining... 24.188.207.20 02:49, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, now. This page isn't a Support Page, it's my own little personal user page! ;) But if you mean the Support Issues page itself, I agree. It would be good to see outcomes, because in the vast majority of cases (well, the ones related to legitimate requests and issues) I think we'll see a successful outcome and a happy camper. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:23, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Update Idea's...

My mom always said I should say please.. before asking anything So with that said,

Could the people of GW's please have some new Banner art for the guilds? Maybe some art that's different for each game area... Also maybe more Guild Hall choices like adding some from Eye to the North.. & Please would it be possible to get holiday stuff, in the guild halls like maybe a tree in every hall at winterdays? or pumpkins?

Just tossing this out for your / everyones thoughts

So since it's a toss out, here's a good one.. Would it ever be possible to have Gwen play her flute in the Monument area. Even if it's made a quest or something to gain her a flute..? She's shown in the hero monument even playing one, we hear her in pre-playing.. so why not in the monument...? She's just standing there, looking bored out of her mind !!!

Ok, I'm off my Dinosaur .. Cheers !! Xiena 17:56, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I like your ideas. :) I remember mentioning holiday decor a long time ago, but if you think of the number of GHs, it would take a lot of work to implement those! Anyway, the very best place to put ideas like this on the Suggestions Page and we'll see what happens. Thanks. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:52, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Gaile, I can't get this posted in the suggestions area, My computer won't cough up a edit templet ... I tried, The system for contacting really needs to be rethought. Glad you liked the idea's. I gave it my best shot ! See you on Chinese new year ! Xiena 09:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Gaile

For being a contributing part to this wiki and the GW community. It's sad that we don't see as much participation from other devs/regina in responding to player suggestions as from you. Thanks again --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 04:38, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

today i was just thinknig about how all my guild members split up even though the guild was really great, but was too much pressure, so yeah then i thoguht it was so great how you can find such nice and friendly people on Guild wars even though most of them are across in the USA, and it's people like you who made Guild wars the great place it is, with all the partying and everything, and even thoguh i wasnt here for much of your time as an Anet employee just wanna say thanks for all the hard work on guild wars ;D hope i can see you at the canthan new year event or even in guild wars 2 - character: Elk trail ( you won't need to know my character but just thouh i would post it XD)

New mask?

Have a look at this discusion [1], I really think we need a new festival mask in Cantha...MegalodonLunar Fortunes? 16:22, 25 January 2009 (UTC) When old masks are made, why can't you guys make this one again!? Its so beautiful... and besides, acourding to this, you can even make it for the new year festival. How about that?^-^Kyahaha 11:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Curiousity

A light hearted question for you. During a chat with someone about drop rates on Lunar Fortunes and the lucky aura/possession/etc (you know the random stuff nerds ask each other about even though they know none of the parties involved have any idea about how it all works) a question formed in my mind: How do people like Gaile and Linsey handle these burning questions? Have you ever seen something in Guild Wars and let curiousity get the better of you? Pop your nose in the door and ask the team in charge how it actually works? Not after any secrets, of course. Just wondering if it's a perk of the job that you get to know what the Lucky Aura actually does (or doesn't) do. Mr J 13:44, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I have asked a few times, yes, and I have intentionally not asked at other times. There are things that really intrigue me, and I just have to know how it works. But other things I can let play out without knowing the inner workings. And some things the devs tell me about so I can communicate them, formerly as CRM, and now as Support Liaison. For instance, if we feel there may be confusion or concern about changes to the game, a dev may tell me how something works so that I can relay that to the teams and answer any questions they may have. (My writing up the XTH Page was a direct result of my asking a lot of questions and then making an FAQ to help players, and help Support answer player questions.)
So the answer is yes. And no. ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Gaile!

A Mini Me Minipet

Hi gaile. I was in UW yesterday and i was thinking if it was possible to have like a minipet of yourself. Like have a small minipet resembling the character how he looked at the time you got it, or maybe even update able.

I personally would think it would be killer to have mini versions of a friend with u at all times. or if you have a big ego urself;)

PS: the thought of a floating abbadon head with hands (kinda like rayman) crossed my mind too.

This is not a suggestion, just want to know what you and other people think about this.(Ixillius 13:30, 4 February 2009 (UTC))

I want a mini Abbadon too! I had to kill him for my armor, and I was really surprised what he looked like. Kinda reminded me of [2]someone. Hehehe... Oh, ya, a mini you would be cool too, but a mini Abbadon would be better :)--Unendingfear User Unendingfear Crane.jpg 13:36, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I see what you mean, does look alike :P. i always wondered why there are no god minipets yet. You'd expect a balt or grenth pet above something like a water djinn (Ixillius 14:32, 4 February 2009 (UTC))
Hi. The "mini me" miniature has been given as a suggestion by many players since the first miniatures came out. The best place to put this idea is on the suggestions pages (although I know it has been posted there already) or, if you wish, join the prediction page, which is still active and turned into sort of a prediction and suggestion page combined. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:37, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I don't know if Guild Wars 2 will be out. As a player, I would think the event would be the same next year no matter whether GW2 is out or not. This is because in my mind, anyway, Canthan New Year is a tradition of Guild Wars and we have not been told if or how it would carry over to Guild Wars 2. That decision is up to the designers, and that is something I do not know. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Ha! It wouldn't surprise me if Cantha's new harsher regime shut down new year celebrations completely. I wouldn't expect to see CNY in GW2 at first anyway, as it sounds like GW2 will only include areas seen in the Prophecies and EotN games (until they release the other continents). I may be wrong, but that was the impression I got from the way they closed off Cantha and Elona in the movement of the world article. Ashes Of Doom Talk 18:55, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me if Arenanet did that, they've established so much of a world and to only return to part of it for the first installament would suck. My opinion. 000.00.00.00 19:48, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
From The Movement of the World: As a result, Cantha became extremely isolationist. Once Orr rose from the ocean, those tendencies were reinforced by an inability to safely sail the western seas. Any ships venturing near the Strait of Malchor are sunk by the black ships, then dredged from the ocean floor by the Orrian dragon and commandeered into service. Thus, completely cut off from Kryta, Cantha vanished entirely. Travelers, refugees, and even Xunlai agents residing within Tyrian [sic] heard nothing more from Cantha. and ...crossing the Crystal Desert is currently impossible due to Palawa's stranglehold over the southern reaches and the desert dragon's presence in the northern desert. Doesn't look promising... =( Tyria is really big though, so I don't blame them for wanting to work on one continent at a time. Ashes Of Doom Talk 21:10, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I've read it. Yes, Tyria is big. sadly I was hoping for a massive Tyria map on the first release including all three original landmass [sighs]. But, I doubt it. 000.00.00.00 21:21, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

"As a general rule of thumb, we don't mind if you do things like this to make your own playing experience more fun. Some people really like to mod, and we recognize that this can often be a valuable learning tool. When you're doing it, though, keep in mind that we ask that you don't use our content to mod other games. Please do not attempt to extract anything from your GW.dat with the intent to use it in a mod for another game or project. Also keep in mind that we can't support any changes you make.In other words, if you try to make some changes and your game crashes, don't contact support because there really isn't anything they will be able to do for you. Make sure you have your disks handy to reinstall. In case anyone was concerned about this reply, keep in mind that alterations that people make to their own .dat files will not affect the play experience of others. All of that important data is stored server side, so any changes that would be able to be made are purely cosmetic. For instance, if someone re-textures their sword to look like a gigantic pickle, they will be the only one to see this change. You won't start seeing people wielding pickle swords running around in random arena any time soon. Also keep in mind that we are always interested to see what stuff you guys come up with. "To all modders: It's important to note that the parameters concerning the use of third-party programs do still apply. We cannot condone the use of such programs, and we cannot support the accounts of those who may be negatively impacted in using such programs. That's called the If it eats your hard drive and blows up your refrigerator, don't call us policy.Honestly, though, as previously stated, it is unlikely that we would actively pursue or action those who use such programs in a positive manner, that is, those whose only interest is creating benign mods of our games. Keep in mind that occasionally people get creative and might bring up the use of a harmless program to attempt to mask other harmful activities. We see that with other situations, such as where they say "But I was only using an alternative OS, why was I blocked?" and we discover they are using major bot programs. If you feel that this creates a "mixed message," then I guess we should discuss that concern. I can understand where the strict "Don't do that" is clearer than "We can't say you can do that, but we won't take action if you do choose to do it." There are some cases where it's not black and white. One example that comes to mind is the use of emulators to play Guild Wars. We develop only for the PC, but others play on other systems and that's totally ok. However, if they develop difficulties, our Support Team is not available to help them resolve those issues. So we don't prohibit the alternative, we simply decline to support it.What I want to say above all about this matter is that if you're going to mod, have fun, but do stick with the benign and positive uses of the programs and create mods that impact the game only in ways that are fun and harmless. If there's more information to share, I will do so as soon as it becomes available to me." -- Gaile

Super GOD title ZEUS

I have acheived 30 maxed titles and I'm on my way to 35 maxed titles could NCSOFT consider a super god title named Zeus ?

He you cant max max a max title wenn its max its maxed^^, and you can get 35 yes but this is just that you can pick out 30 you did like to max. Max those and your max title is maxed thats it. Good luck with over maxing your max title but wenn max is max you can just top maxing ok? 62.133.217.237 12:33, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Reward Skins in PvE

hello again gaile i was wondering there are a few skins like the Shield of the Dead which is one of my favorit skins in the game but it is not available in pve. will they ever be available 2 pve'ers? it a very old skin back from when sorrow's furnace first came out--shadow 03:45, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Rotscale and his Rewards

Me and some friends beat rotscale today i nNm and Hm hes ben an obsession of mine as of late the lrod i cant find, the fact that he wiped out my best heros in 10 secodns Nm and left me in a locked battle for 10 min before he oblterated me, we had fun and a few of us got his bow but im wondering a few things, since hes actualy tougher thne abbadon, the lich, and shiro in terms of difficulty, why isint there a title or HoM statue for killing him, i mean i beat them all and i honestly think that in NM hes tougher then hm shiro, so will there ever be a title or monument for beating rotscale.--Lord randy taylor 23:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

that's stupid. --Cursed Angel Q.Q 23:43, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
how is it stupid, thqat the strongest monster in game dosent come with a title or monument--Lord randy taylor 23:46, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
first of all, it isn't the strongest monster in the game. second, you get those monuments because you beat the entire campaign, not just some endboss. getting a title or a monument for beating rotscale is lame.
People: This is my talk page and I welcome all friendly people to post here. If you feel obliged to say something negatively, if you want to share your opinion, that's fine, but please state it as an opinion. Better still, consider the courtesy and respect you'd like to be shown, and show it in return. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:56, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Plus other Hall of Monument statues such as those for betaing Urgoz or Kanaxai involve a whole dungeon too. As the IP said, the Hall fo Monument staues for killing Shiro, The Lich, ect, are for finishign the campaign, not just killing said boss. There are NO Hall of Monument statues JUST for killing a single boss alone. Let me put it this way, killing Rotscale alone does not compare to any other Hall of Monument statues in terms of feats accomplished. It's not stupid, it just doesn't stand up to the others. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 23:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
whne i beat the campaigns i was dissapointed i expected bigger meaner monsters rotscale was the only one that exceeded my expectations--Lord randy taylor 00:01, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hi Randy. I agree that Rotscale can give a really darn good challenge! I'm not sure that I would agree he's harder than the end bosses, but you know what? Some of what we experience is related to the build(s) in use. In the early days -- maybe before release, it's been that long -- I took on Rotty in a short period of time, and had other times when I gave up in disgust. (There are a couple of missions I feel the same way about. :) ) So while I adore Rotscale -- he's about my fave of all the monsters in the game -- I personally think it's good to restrict the statues to the end bosses, because, well, the statue is about the successful completion of the game, and the end boss only represents that fact. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 00:02, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Or the respective elite areas XD — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 00:04, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

i used the same builds for them all and as for urgoz it was easier then the factiosn camapign to me--Lord randy taylor 00:11, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Then that's your problem. Rotscale isn't just some normal monster you can take on with Sabway or whatever. You kinda have to prepare specifically against him unless you want to wipe a bunch of times or use cons. Vili User talk:Vili 03:44, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
dont kock my build and i beat him with my build but had to bring 7 friends and took quite abit of planing to take him, my build is not the problem that monster is tougher to me then end bosses to me--Lord randy taylor 14:07, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Hey Randy! Some information that might be helpful when you fight Rotscale in the future can be found here. There are a few tips and builds if that helps :). I think that difficulty level for each boss often has to do with tons of different things, for instance, I find Argo very hard to defeat on my necro, but he is cake on my Mesmer. It really has to do with builds, experience, strategy, profession, and tons of other things. Some bosses are more difficult to defeat to some while they are simple to others. (I personally find Rotscale a challenge, but not more so than HM Shiro) --Shadowphoenix User Shadowphoenix Necromancer.png 15:35, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Apparently, it escapes your notice there isn't a specific build that allows you to clear every area, except maybe cryway. Just because your build works in many situations, doesn't mean there aren't any other builds better at situations your build cannot handle.Pika Fan 15:41, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
1. i already beat him. 2. that guide is outdated and worthless.also its nto a question of beating him, its a question of why hes not got a better reward other thne the bow nad as for my builld it works almost everywere there are 2 places it needs changed and i plan for that so no mroe questioning my build --Lord randy taylor 15:48, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
A long time ago, before more greens existed, Rotscale's bow was *the* item to have as a Ranger. Kind of like Drago's Flatbow. It was a unique, rare, and special item which set you apart and meant you were one of the elite players - either because you were good enough to kill Rotscale (this is back before heroes, pve skills, cons, blah blah), or that you were rich enough to buy this expensive item. So the reward used to be quite worthy of the challenge. Vili User talk:Vili 15:55, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps you are not bright enough to catch my drift. Let me make this explicitly clear. I am saying rotscale is too easy to have more rewards than the bow. Pika Fan 16:03, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
come on hes harder then urgoz(woss), shiro(sissy boy), lich(o la la), abbadon(pansy), and the great destroyer(weak) theese were easy to me they came easy and they get rewards o mena rotscale is t ome and many others the hardest monster in the game, and u did make your self clear but i belive your wrong hes tougher and more difficult to take then the entire last mission of prophecies or nightfallboth of wich i did on the first time, same with the great destroyer--Lord randy taylor 16:12, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Because you aren't as good as you think you are, period. Pika Fan 09:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) The end bosses of every campaign have NO reward what-so-ever for beating JUST the boss. The ONE reward you get ONCE (outside of the books that is, which require you to finish the majority of the campaign again) after killing an end of game boss, is a reward for (at the very least) the time and effort you have invested in finishing the enitre campaign (unless you get runs in prophecies). Also, the rewards for finishing The Deep and Urgoz's Warren are for finishing an entire elite area. The Fissure of Woe, The Underworld, The Deep and Urgoz's Warren (to name a few) are all collectively harder for the entire run, and take longer than farming Rotscale alone. Each run has a respective reward in proportion to it's challange, time, and effort required to finish. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 16:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

look all im saying is Rotscale neds to have soemthign mroe thne just an item maybe a quest(not the slay rotscale thing that was removed) but soemthign cool make ihm a little more important hes a great challange and i feel a little more needs on him a quest, a small dungeon be it now or HW2 i think rotscale is tough enough and important enough to have it.--Lord randy taylor 17:05, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Nothing in GW is based around a single foe, bar a mission for killing one boss, and another mission based on killing a single boss, but involves much more killing than just Abbaddon. Killing the Lich onvolves practicaly an entire mission before hand. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 17:10, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
as i have stated a dozen times now i know but some form of mission involving rotscale and lore behind him would be nice just alittle more hes a very rough enemy and should have a little mmore story then sepculation also shiro is a mission to kill ONE boss--Lord randy taylor 17:12, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Only if you managed to get to Imperial Sanctum skipping 10 missions (and most primary quests). :P --NIN37 19:01, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
i mean the missio nitself all you have to do is kill shiro the others are more complicated--Lord randy taylor 19:23, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but you have to beat the entire rest of the game to GET to that mission, AND, the reward for finishing the mission is not for the mission it's self, it's for you finishign the campaign. Killing Shiro is you putting the cap on Factions, not based souly just around you killing shiro and nothing else. Exspanding on Rotscale is something you should take up with Linsey, as Guild Wars 1 exspanion, maintenance, changes and such is her end. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 20:15, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Getting to Rotscale isn't more difficult than getting to Shiro in the Imperial Sanctum, if you're good enough to take the dragon on. It's just a little more work. 145.94.74.23 08:03, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Kill him in Hard Mode! There's a title, even two and two HoM statues connected to them as a reward! You won't get either of them without killing Rotscale in HM, if you want that title you can think of Rotscale as of the Ultimate Boss Monster of Tyria and kill him as the last one and he'll grant you that title :)--YawgYawg 05:25, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
you do relize i stated i HAVE ALREADY ebaten him in NM and HM and thayt all im sayign is he needs mroe lroe and maybe a quest.--Lord randy taylor 03:17, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, I'd be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction. I was wanting to suggest pets ('cept for Wolves, for obvious reasons) be treated like armor and weapon skins in PvP. And yeah, that's the one weakness of the Zaishen Chest. Tonics would have been more popular imo, and I'll get abuse for this... had the Phantasmal come last. Hi. Yes, the Moa you see on my desk is paper art designed (and then made for me) by Katy Hargrove, one of my favourite of the Guild Wars artists (and about the nicest person you ever met!). I love that little guy. :)
The wiki is being revamped for suggestions, but you could add that now. Or, you could hold off until next month and then add your idea when the redesign is finalized. (BTW, I like your idea a lot.)
It's a fair question, if I understand that you're asking "Why not get Drunkard while playing through the game?" The answer is, I'm getting the title on a non-player character -- my Gaile Gray character who is and I hope to keep at Level 7. If I play, she'll level. So it's a lot of guild hall drinkin' for her. ;)
After all this time, and a bunch of fine tonics, I still love the Phantasm best of all. (A couple are close, but he's just it for me!) I am saving keys, but the chances are still so small, I don't know that I'll see myself at a Rift Warden any time soon. I watch for sales, too, so maybe I'll get lucky with that.
Thanks for dropping a note. It's nice to hear from you, and it reminds me I need to write another blog entry. There are new "tails" to tell. ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:19, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

With the merging of the talents of both Arenanet and "Rolls-a-lot Productions", lead by Rick Astley, Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be the hottest title of all time, swiftly toppling The Previous Number One of All Time from the top spot. How are you, Gaile? -- WoBUser Wings of Blood sig icon.png (contribs) 00:11, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey WoB, I'm good, thanks. It's been a lovely day here today, following a regular "5 Plagues of Seattle" sort of week. We had sun, wind, rain, hail, and, yes, snow on April 1st. I'd guess that Dwayna is the diety of weather, but we've had a bit of Grenth passing by, too. I'd say those gods and goddesses are having waaaay too much fun around here lately. :)
In a Guild Wars sense, I'm still chugging along -- literally! ;) -- on my Drunkard title. I'm excited about the April update that's coming -- as a player and as a team member, I think it's going to be a hoot.

Snow as late as April 1st. Wow. Though I have to say I saw it in the forecast for here as well (Richmond/Vancouver) but it never actually turned up. Thankfully the weather finally seems to be turning to sort-of spring in the northwest. -- Sirius (talk) 05:03, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Melandru: What the heck?

Is it me, or does Melandru look surprisingly like an amphibian in the image on this page? Compared with her usual wispy, waif-y artwork (which I adore) that shot shows an... interesting version of the goddess, eh? -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:18, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

I think that's the avatar that shows up when you /kneel by the Melandru shrine in ToA. You'd think they'd actually use a more "wispy and waif-y" model for it, wouldn't you? o_O --KOKUOU 03:36, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

So you really meaned the spirit and not the artwork of Melandru, a well anyway that artwork would be great for the silvary anyway^^. But I guess the silvary will look more artworkstyl just as the asura. Now a day in every game they make creatures like artwork instead of realistic creatures. (example: Wow,diablo3,C&C Red Alert3,City of Heroes,Spore etc.) Hope Guildwars2 will be something more realistic and not comic-way style. I really hate that development(not that I dont play them), but it gives me a feeling of mm we can't make realistic things. Takes to much work, lets make it comic style:/. I loooove the plans for the Menagerie! Back those years ago when we spoke of it, I wasn't sure if it would be possible, from a content and programming viewpoint, and it's just great to know the team could bring it to fruition. Froggie and the TPN are very excited, too, as they feel that anything in support of animals is an excellent addition to the world. Yes, Froggie consented to be captured on film for the preview, but no, he's not a member of the Menagerie. However, he will be there in spirit. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:06, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Gold Selling Question/ Suggestion

Ok I know that Arena Net has a problem with the buying of real world currency with in game gold and I have a suggestion on fixing the problem and elimating the sellers. Have they ever thought about putting currency packs in the in game store? Like how there is the Xunlai Storage Chest upgrades and the skill packs and extra character slots to name a few what about doing gold/platinum packs? Helps possiblly eliminate that problem! P.S. It was nice to meet you and Froggie and I hope you enjoy your Raptor!!

For the record, if that were to happen, it would put me off playing Guild Wars for good. Storage is one thing, there is no inherent advantage to it. Letting people use real world money to buy gold would upset the balance as it is now, where people who play a lot get more money. Also, it would destroy the economy unless the price was incredibly high, and if that was to happen, people would still buy gold from other sources. Ashes Of Doom Talk 11:44, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
The suggestion that ArenaNet/NCsoft sell Guild Wars gold has been broached before. But you see, that's really not something we want to do. In-game items are just that -- items of value in the game -- and we don't want to get in the business of selling things like that. Not gold or other "currencies" like ectos or Z-keys.
Some folks may not see the difference between selling a hair style pack and selling gold, but there truly is one. And to the best of my knowledge, we aren't heading down the path towards selling gold or other currency. (And thanks again, Rappy is doing great with the rest of the family! :) ) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:29, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Something that comes to mind when I think of this is Second Life. Second Life's currency became a "real" currency and players of that game exchange real world money for Lindee's, the Second Life currency.
This has lead to much success in the context of Second Life but, the key difference between GW and Second Life is that players are free to create things in Second Life that they are free to sell in Second Life. Things like cars, airplanes, boats, housing, pre-fabbed housing components, clothes, pets, you name it.
Since we aren't empowered to build things in GW, that isnt the focus of the product afterall, this would likely only lead to unreal inflation and general devaluing of gold. Given the account restrictions on gold (how much you can have on a toon, how much you can have in storage), this would only lead to other items being used as currency. It's bad enough with Ecto but, there's plenty of other items out there (armbraces for example) that would likely becoming completely unattainable.
Still, it's perhaps good to keep this idea circulating every once in a while. Discussion tends to lead to innovation - something that Linsey and the Live Team proved with the April update. And at the very least, it makes for interesting discussion imho. Pkohler01 23:45, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering...

After the Menagerie update came out and I bring all my animals in and unlock all of them, but then I notice where are all the bunnies? I see all the other animals in guild wars but no bunnies. Also I was wondering about your thoughts on the idea of a charmible rabbit pet? Me and all of my friends like the idea of having a killer bunny as a pet but part of that might be from watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail to many times. User:Tog

Well, the reason the bunny is not there is because it's not charmable. As far as making it happen, those requests have been made long ago, but I don't know why they were not implemented. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
We have some creatures that are "ambient" creatures, and are not tameable. For instance, you'll see birds, butterflies, chickens, fish, and of course the bunny in Pre-Searing. Not all creatures are intended to be pets -- that is by design. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:38, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I think at first Tog was asking why aren't animals e.g. bunnies in the Menagerie to add to the decor, not to be charmed. "I think". --> A F K When Needed 11:32, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, I see. So asking about ambient creatures in the Menagerie, I understand. I'm not sure, the team might have wanted to keep it simple, so that any creature present in the Menagerie was a creature with whom you could party. Also, the emptiness makes you want to add more, eh? ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:27, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
If you want to see the Menagerie in flames, add the rabbits. Frozenwind 18:39, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for lack of clarity (I randomly suck at sentences with what I'm trying to convey. :\ ) I was talking decor with the rabbits with why they weren't in the Menagerie when all the other decor animals i could think of were. The other part was Just asking what you would think of the idea in general of a rabbit pet that follows you around and helps you kill things I wasn't making a request for that if I did I would of put that in the Guild Wars 2 suggestions by now. Soon after I posted original message I then found out the rabbit in mysterious summoning stones but didn't bother to edit post. Sorry for lack of clarity again. User:Tog

We make a lot of references -- to books, movies, various cultures -- and all in good fun. For example, "Drakes on a Plane" refers to a certain movie. The white rabbit in GW:EN is borrowed (with love) from another classic film. There are famous quotes from books, as well, and we've included cultural references from time to time, too. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Makeover after 4 years :).

Finally we are able to restyle our character, I was so excited that I bought a makeover pack right away because I was tired of some of my characters looks. And my first and main character I ever made finally got her makeover (she is 4 years old), and I love it. Check it out :D.

I already used all 5 makeover credits on my characters because I was tired of playing with them and wanted something new. Also I bought a pack because I wanted to see if you had to logout and login to see the changes, but no sir, you change on the spot wich is nice. And Core professions have alot of choice, unlike the factions and nightfall professions. That's also a reason why I only changed the looks of core professions. I forgot to mention I really love the daily quests because now my main character has something to do again besides farming or beeing benched for a long time. I was bored, now i'm not. Ooh and Nicholas the Traveler's gifts are nice. Qaletaqa 23:58, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Why did you call the designers monkeys? Is it THAT hard to be nice to Anet? 145.94.74.23 00:13, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I think it's just an idiom. YouTube, for example, uses the phrase "highly trained monkeys" when referring to the people working on a page that has an error.-- Shew 00:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I am beeing nice lol, It's just a little bit of fun I put in my text. And Shew is correct and that is also where I got it from. If I would not have been nice, I think "and I love it", "Awesome" and "Totally sweet update" wouldn't be in there, instead it would be something like this : "Can you tell them to do a better job over there" or "I quit Guild Wars, the update ruined the game". Also I think there is a bit of Darwinism inside of me, I don't know, i'm Agnostic.Qaletaqa 00:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Np, it's indeed true what you say, I even insult people now and then but I would never insult Anet's employees because they made this game and I love it, no matter what I think about an update (whether it's good or bad), they are the ones that made it possible for us to play this game, if they didn't make the game we wouldn't be playing it and be able to post on this wiki :). Utopia?

hiya Gaile I was bored and randomly looking around Guild wiki and stumbled upon the canceled game utopia

if you can it would be nice if some of the features would appear in GW2 or mabe it will become available after GW2 comes out?

if you dont have any of the features from this game left over from after you canceled and possibly deleted all the stuff from this game i wonder if it would be possible to bring this out

(for some reason im a fan of ancient aztec and ive seen the consept art of the time hub city and love that too)

Getefix 18:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I think some of that was the inspiration for Asura and the Tarnished Coast. Other random elements were also used for the later parts of Guild Wars. You never know, some of it may still be salvaged and waiting for GW2, especially the concept art, it's bad business to completely scrap all your work. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:48, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Several of my guildies and vent users were discussing this the other day, and it wouldn't surprise us if some of the Utopia concepts are used in Guild Wars 2 or whatever following expansions/campaigns they incorporate. 000.00.00.00 21:00, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
A good chunk of Utopia was probably already integrated into The Eye of the North - Aztek themed Asura lands, the Tannek (or as we know them, the Destroyers), etc. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 22:42, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I forgot about the Destroyers. I know a lot of Tarnished Coast scenery was from Utopia, like the suspended bridges in the jungle (some of the concept art for Utopia), and I think even the dinosaur theme of the monster set. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 06:18, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey now, you know that's a Guild Wars 2 question. Or at least it's sort of there. ;) The concept art for Utopia is beautiful -- I agree. I love the architecture and the foliage! Anyway, like you, I hope we see more of that style in Guild Wars 2. Heck, I hope we use the name "Utopia" someday, too! But whether we will do either or both remains to be seen in the distant haze of the future. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:49, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Ah, Utopia. I know we will see bits and pieces of concepts from it in GW 1 and 2, but the whole thing probably will only be known in a parallel universe where Gaile is a blonde guy, Greywind was accidently made a girl and where Guild Wars has the monthly fee and is more popular than WoW. >.> I've watched a little too much Fringe. ^^" Katherinezoltin 07:54, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Minis are fun for the old

I donno if I'm just bugged, annoyed or jealous... but I've come onto the scene rather late by some standards (my oldest character is 1.5yrs old) so sure birthday minis are fun and all but by the time I'm gonna be seeing a 4th year mini the 7th year minis will be out... it seems to me that all the newer players are forever going to be behind the 8ball on the aspect of minis... the only way to get the newest stuff is to buy it from those few older players willing to part with the extras from their backup or extra characters... I really donno a solution to this as the older players have their right to neet stuff also... I just can't help but feel slightly jaded that this aspect of giveaways will never really be appreciated by "younger" characters... MrPaladin 18:07, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

It's even worse for holiday hats: you will never get one of the older ones. That's just how things are - some rewards are for those who helped this game get on its feet from the start. I'm always a while behind (I get my first 2 in December and January, and the rest a year behind or more) and the new-mini hype is over by the time I get mine, but it's ok. I usually buy the one mini I like (white, because they're cheaper ^_^ - Kveldulf this time methinks <3) and then wait until they get really cheap, and buy the rest, which usually happens around when the new edition comes, so soon I'm going to buy the rest of my third year collection... At least I'm happy that I have the potential to get almost any mini in the game. I'm sad I missed the first halloween/wintersday/tengu hats, though... And really, the new minis are little more than a hype, and a little reward for those who got the game in the first year, especially in the beta. Some of my favorites are still the Charr Shaman and the Lich from the first and second series, so it's all a matter of taste. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:15, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
The holiday hats I'm not as worried about funny enough... mostly because when the event comes around we do have access to the same prize... but because we were not at the earlier events then we miss out... but we also dont have the emotional attachment to the older hats... sure it would be nice to have them but its no biggie... its the reverse for the minipets however, as I feel like when the birthdays do come around I'm only gonna be opening a gift that was rewrapped from 3 years ago that "uncle steve" (no reference to a real person or character) already told me he had 7 of them... >< would be nice jsut to have something new on your birthday, not something rehashed... I really donno of a solution to my angst on this tho except to have some alternat ways to get birthday minis... I don't have a problem at all with minis such as the greesed lightning or panda and such that were linked to events, just the birthday gifts that really are nothing to look forward too MrPaladin 19:32, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Here's a real life analogy: If you're not the first child in your family, you're going to have this sort of thing happen all the time. Your big brother gets a bike before you do, but when you get a bike, it's yours (even a "hand-me-down" from the older brother). It's not easy being the younger kid -- I know, I am No. 3 of 3. It was irritating to see my brothers tooling around town in a car when I was poking on my 10-speed. :) In the game, as in life, the "older folks" get the privileges and the prizes/gifts that are due them for their greater years. And the fact that I'm opening a gift that is a known commodity doesn't diminish my excitement when I open a 1st or 2nd year present on my newer characters, because what that character is getting is appropriate for that particular character's age.
What I think would be very inappropriate is to give 4th year presents to someone who has only played for a single year. I don't think we should say "Guild Wars is 4 -- all players are eligible for 4th Year gifts." The whole concept of the presents -- and I oughta know, I am the one who first suggested the idea to Mike O'Brien ;) -- was to reward players for their "veterancy" and their loyalty. I like the current program, because it really does give long-term players the extra recognition they so richly deserve. They can keep the miniatures, give them to friends, bin, them, or sell or trade them. But in my opinion, they really should be the only ones to get them at the start, simply because that's in keeping with the whole idea behind the gift program. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:56, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Thats the kicker... I really really don't mind older players having stuff that I will never be able to get... but it is slightly disappointing to open a first year gift these days... the hand me down from the older brother has seen better days by the time I get it.... by the time it's rewrapped I have already purchased my own bike (or car)... or given up on riding altogether after seeing my brother ride his bike til its rusty... /end analogy MrPaladin 20:03, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, I can relate to your frustration, it's completely understandable, but I don't see a solution to it, other than Gift of the Traveler or maybe the Black Moa Chick all your own. That or give away your 1st year presents to those who will be excited to open them, and save yourself the disappointment. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 20:10, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Yer to turn the story to a good note I do indeed love the adition of minis to the traveler and the moa hunt... they are definatly a step in the right direction... I tend to give away the minis I open to people who are new to the game and have no chance to get one at all for a year MrPaladin 20:29, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
To reward loyalty to the game, and getting away from the economic (mis)use of the minipet's it should be said there are other ways to acknowledge people are playing the game with real fun and passion. lot's of people can buy the loyalty recognition and that's in my oppinion missing the point of your suggestion to Mike O'Brien. I think it's an idea to add somthing specific, non tradable to the game which can be used by the people and can be shown to all in outposts, towns and conquests. I have some ideas but due to the suggestion discussion i don't know if it's save to add them to the suggestions...is it Gaile? Didis 09:49, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I also don't see the possibility that the birthdays will ever be changed... I mean its been this way 4 years already I highly doubt it will be changed... I did however see a suggestion one time to trade in one type of mini for another (with added costs)... I really donno how t o make this a feel good situation except to jsut let it be what it is and enjoy other aspects of the game... leaving the birthday minis to the characters who were ingame first and annually enjoy the gift MrPaladin 13:33, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree, it's fine as it is. It is the choice of the player to sell the new mini in order to get a new set of elite armor or weapons, or buy some sweets for their title craving, or keep it as a rare show-off piece. And in the end, we still get a bunch of cute little creatures to follow us around without trying to eat us. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 17:46, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I just wish Minis weren't tradable. I love the idea of having presents, but it defeats the purpose when they're introduced to the economy because it gives a direct monetary advantage to older players. would have been much better to have a mini npc like the holiday hat person. Kumlekar 21:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I think that's a horrible idea. Those with more characters would get more minis, and those with the base 4 characters and/or started late get no chance of ever getting anything they like, if they get an unlucky roll from their presents. Minis are in the HoM, and it would take ages to fill the base 20 with just your own, especially if you get doubles. Also, the monetary advantage isn't as big as you may think. Those who get them may opt to keep them simply because they like them. And if someone is willing to pay tons of cash for the new fling, let them, it redistributes wealth to those who don't farm as hard, and the mini eventually gets devalued anyway. (Disregard that last comment if you didn't vote for Obama...) I too am jealous of the people who have the new minis and the old hats because they started in the beta weekend, farm eternal blades and bone dragon staves, and have a set of obsidian armor on each of their 15 main characters... But it is my choice to work as much or as little to get what I want. Jealousy is no reason to request that someone else can't have the thing you can't have. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 22:31, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Cos I'm greedy I would have liked (not a suggestion) Birthday Celebration Presents and Birthday Presents: Celebration Presents would be gifted to each account (not a suggestion) and unique to Guild Wars birthday not, (not a suggestion)as is the case with Birthday Presents, related to the characters age. But that's just me. (not a suggestion) if you can read this "Whoa, you is Superman :P 000.00.00.00 01:13, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Is texmod a legal third party program?

I was just wondering the difference between texmod, a program that modifies the graphics of guild wars, and a basic macro script that automates actions such as drinking, skill chains, or other actions. I can understand why a macro can be deemed illegal since you could viably set something up to play the game for you while you're not there, or providing you with an advantage over other players like getting the drunkard title easier. But doesnt texmod do the same thing? It makes getting the cartography title soooo much easier. That gives players who use the third party program a much bigger advantage than those who dont, and seems alot more unfair then just a simple double click macro. I'm just wondering the legality of all this since texmod is apparently allowed, but scripts aren't. Thanks --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 21:55, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

For cartographer, you could just take clean maps off the wiki, and screnshots from a maximised mission map (don't even need the cloud remover), line them up in an image program on layers, and do an XOR. More annoying and finniky, yeah, but not harder. Solves the problem of not remembering where you've scraped if you don't keep a list or something, which is the main point of the mods IMO: not having to do finiky recordkeeping. --Star Weaver 22:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Texmod#ArenaNet has it all. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 22:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
(ec)(ec) >_< Texmod is not endorsed by Anet, but is also not considered illegal and bannable. The most important difference between Texmod and an afk script is how they are used. With Texmod, you still have to play the game to uncover the map, kill the monsters to get to where you want to be, and not die, etc. - seeing the missing map pieces is only a part of the puzzle. With alchohol, you run an afk script that does not need you to be there, that is a no-no by the EULA. It can be considered botting by definition, as a program is playing the game for you. So, I hope you can see that the two cannot be compared as being the same kind of thing. The question of either being legal or not is a different one, but they are in their nature different things, and equal treatment does not apply. I got my cartographers without Texmod, and doing my Ale Hound honestly as well, as I feel that cheating to get either cheapens the feeling of achievement, even if it looks the same to others. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 22:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
My main question, rose, is in the title of the post. Which you did not comment on. The third party program gives you an advantage over other players who do not use it. It modifies the game. Rule # 9 of the Rules of Conduct states, "You may not modify any part of the Guild Wars Client, Server, or any part of the official Guild Wars websites." Texmod takes the client and modifies the graphics to give an advantage to players using it. Sounds like an illegal mod to me. Edit: I'm not trying to start a flame or a wall, I'm just confused as to why this isn't considered an illegal mod. --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 00:25, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Third party programs and Guild Wars are hot topics. Arenanet needs to come out and give us a big list. It says in the rules they're disallowed, yet it's clear some are tolerated. Definations is required big time. 000.00.00.00 00:28, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
TexMod doesn't modify the client, server, or any part of the Guild Wars website. It reads textures from the client that are being used by DirectX (this isn't modifying), and then it takes those textures and replaces them with other textures via DirectX (also not modifying). It modifies DirectX (what it is displaying, etc), but not the client itself. DarkNecrid 01:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
The EULA also states you cannot use any keyboard or mouse to play. You think anyone follows it to the letter?
On a side note, TexMod does modify the game client. It's just not a permanent change. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 03:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

How's it modify the client Shard? As far as I am aware TexMod only interacts with DirectX. The only reason you chose what executable file is so it knows which file to intercept the Direct3D calls from. Either way, Shard is right that technically you can read the LA to the point that it states you can't use a kb/mouse. The truth is, is the License Agreements are typically very general and cover lots of lots of ground in (attempted) brevity. They state that you can't use third party programs just so if a third party program that's bad comes out they can say, "hey, this is bad, read this". It doesn't mean all third party programs aren't allowed, if that was the case, Ventrilo etc wouldn't be allowed! Just the bad ones. In this case, they've deemed (rightly so tbh) the gameplay advantage TexMod gives you is minimal/non-existant compared to what a bot (even an afk one) would give you. At best TexMod can help save a little bit of time doing Cartographer (but you still have to get all the areas yourself!) or help a lower skilled player MAYBE do 1% better in PvP (making an animation more apparent), whereas an afk bot saves you time + you don't have to do anything whereas other players do. DarkNecrid 15:05, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't think it'd be practical for ArenaNet to come out with a list to say "these are the third-party modifications you're allowed to use" or "these are the types of changes you're allowed to make to the game" because, in the first case, the list of mods that are "in the wild" is always changing and it probably isn't practical to review them all in detail; and in the second case, there are often really hazy lines to draw, e.g. it may be OK to modify some of the textures on the map, but it's a lot more questionable whether modifying wall textures to give them partial transparency should be allowed. Their current system is probably about as good as you're going to get for a "permissive" rather than "restrictive" approach... -- Sirius (talk) 16:22, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Let me summarise the party line for you: Arenanet does not condone the use of TexMod, but they do not actively pursue it's use for punishment, while reserving the right to kittenstomp people without warning at any time. They will also not support you if TexMod fucks you over in any way, shape or form. Use at your own risk, they choose to ignore it for now. Misery 16:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Instead of all the opinions from people here you can also just read the Texmod Page and see for yourself what Emily Diehl and Gaile wrote there. As long as you use it in a good way (like to adjust your armor, or changing UI looks) it's no problem. But ofc Arenanet doesn't take any responsibility for Texmod. That's normal, it's not theirs, they also don't take responsibility for Windows blowing up your pc, etc. User_talk:DewdropPepper - Dewdrop talk 10:49, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Something Overlooked By All... Except Me

Ok now this is interesting.

January: GW live announced they were gonna be doing a BIG update in April and then once every 3-4 months.
April: GW live introduced the changes (very good job btw).
May: GW live announced what was coming for the month of... hey! That Hasn't happened yet!

So what I am trying to say Gaile is wtf happened to the next devoloper update???74.173.107.209 11:28, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Try looking at a little more than just the GW.com main page, perhaps? Linsey updated her journal here on the wiki just a few days ago to let us all know that the devs are brainstorming on the content for the next update, so it's not like they've forgotten about it or are coming back on their initial promise. Updates don't magically happen, and a clear notion of what will be in the update isn't conjured up out of thin air, either. I'm sure that they will make announcements about the next big update as soon as they have something more substantial to say other than "we're brainstorming". So relax, they're working on it. :) (Incidentally, Gaile's talk page isn't the place to bring this sort of thing up anyway.) -- User Elveh sig.png Elv 12:09, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Pretty sure they didn't say they were going to tell us 3 months before the big update either. So you fail. Mini Me talk 13:28, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

I (personally) would not look for information about the next major update for several weeks. I am not in a position to state this with certainty, but I don't think it would be policy to talk about each update for the full three months prior to it going live. ;)
And please note, a Developer Update about the most recent skill update did go live today, so information continues to flow. Hope you find that a good read! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:58, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I feel your pain

Hey Gaile, I just wanted to drop a word to say that I feel your pain. While in college I interned on a state-run consumer hotline for a couple years, taking about 40-80 calls a day, every call coming from someone who thought they had just been screwed and felt that I was the only person who could help them. I can't tell you how many times I got the "my taxes pay your salary..." bs, and I didn't have the heart to tell people that I was work-study and my college was paying my salary, who in turn was being paid by my tuition, so really I was paying myself to try and help them (one time I told a woman that I was an intern, and she said "you volunteered for this?" like I was some kind of moron). We used to get angry people that would call us every day, knew us each by first name, and would just yell at us for an hour (we weren't allowed to hang up on anyone, so we had to just take it). People used to say crazy things (there was one woman who wanted to sue her doctors because the kids she had had by artificial insemination were ugly, and she had specifically requested beautiful children), petty stuff (an old man called to let us know that he had bought a 2 liter bottle of soda, measured it, and found that it only had 1.98 liters in it), or things that were just not our problem (a man called me once because he wanted me to take his cocaine charge off his driving record, "I wasn't driving when I was busted" he said, I told him we only dealt with consumer issues, he said "Well I consumed as much of the coke as I could before I got busted, that makes me a consumer, right?" when I told him no, he proceeded to yell at me and threaten me for the next 45 minutes).

Helping angry or otherwise difficult people is no easy job, most of our interns chose not to stay on after their required six months was up, and it takes a special kind of person to stick with it. The mere fact that you are still here, still nice, and still helping people everyday means you are that kind of person. I just wanted to let you know that, even if it doesn't seem like it, everyone, even the crazy people who want you to do things you can't possibly do, everyone appreciates that you are that type of person. Thank you. (Satanael 16:37, 3 June 2009 (UTC))

I agree and I have always said that I could not do your job because of how I am. I snap too quickly and am never going to be good at talking to customers because my patience is way too thin. The fact that you and Regina can put up with our yelling and screaming and whining is a miracle to me. I have always respected you guys for the fact that you can do things I will never be able to do without verbally attacking someone. Thank you so much for putting up with these idiots, makes you a better person than me. ^^" Katherinezoltin 19:54, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Quick Request

Hey Gaile, I recently wrote a post about my stance on Arena.Net, respectfully directed towards many of the more outspoken members of this wiki. However, I am unsure if, legally, my argument is solid. If you could quickly read over it and correct any misunderstandings I may have over amount of control Arena.Net retains over Guild Wars, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 00:31, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Blood Red. ANet reserves the right (like all other game companies) to modify or terminate services. This is in large part to help maintain or improve the service, because if users owned the service, the users would have the last word on what gets changed and what does not. Just imagine the torment created by a community of people who don't all agree with each other. Mind you, ANet is neither uncaring nor powertripping. Legalities aside, ANet is trying to provide a good service, and is only banning users that are in some important way impacting negatively on the gaming experience of others. I don't believe that they ever plan to ban people because of what they say on forums or wiki. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 01:49, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I thank you for the legal clarification, Alaris. That is what I believed to be true, and I just wanted to confirm. As for the uncaring bit, the rant was more directed at those who have continued to breach their agreement with ANet, and still wish to complain about how ANet treats them. In such a case, I do assume ANet would stop caring about them whining, as it is usually irrelevant shouting. However, that being said, please remember that the rant is meant to be taken in two ways. For those whom it is directed towards, it is meant to gain their trust and detail the reason why their arguments are in vain. At the same time, for those whom are a little clear headed and of good humor, it is simply an amusing essay meant to express the general sentiment of "will you simply shut up already."
As for my comments with Shard, I believe ANet is more likely to ban someone who has had many previous offenses, which is what Shard would consider discrimination. Truthfully, I just consider that reasonable. I also believe that, at times, ANet will lie. In certain circumstances that is simply good business practice (as long as you do not get caught). I also believe, at times, that ANet will go back on previous statements if the infraction proves to be extremely grievous. Lastly, please realize many of my statements such as "Acting without due cause may make Arena.Net a terrible company" does not necessarily state that Arena.Net acts without due cause. With such statements, I am merely holding such assumptions, no matter how absurd, to be true for the sake of the argument.
I hold no ill will towards Arena.Net and will respectfully keep my head down, just in case. However, I will speak out against those who insight disorder and personal attacks, with a simple, well-written rebuttal explaining the futility of their efforts. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 02:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Stalking someone because they have previous offenses is understandable, and I kinda agree with that "policy." I was not banned for repeated violations (and support tickets I've gotten back say that). I was banned because Gaile wanted me banned. There's a difference between reasonable punishments and personal vendettas. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 02:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Again, Shard, I refer you back to my post, as the reason(s) for your ban is/are truly irrelevant. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 02:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Gaile, as Alaris has kindly answered my question concerning legalities, I would be more than willing to have this conversation moved to one of my talk pages before it gets out of hand. However, I leave that decision up to you. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 02:50, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure Anet banned you to silence you ingame but would continue to let you post on the wiki, where your anti-Anet comments can be read by a lot more people at the same time. Personally, I think that you just don't understand why you got banned. I think it's because what you consider to be normal behaviour is actually very offensive to people born a few generations earlier than you (and to be honest, I can sympathize with them, but that's not important). 145.94.74.23 11:03, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Didn't you ask Shard to read the commnent on your page? I recall hearing Shard say that you asked him to read it when we were on vent last night. In doing so, him responding is to be expected. And as far as topic removal...you can archive topics to an archive page on your user space at anytime.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 15:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
It is somewhat ambiguous as to whom the last two comments where directed towards. However, as I personally have never been banned, I will assume user 145.94.74.23 was directing his comments towards Shard. As for Yasmin, I will assume you were directing your comments towards me; if you were not, please disregard the rest of my post.
I will set the record straight right now: I did not ask Shard to read my post on Arena.Net. Now, with how vocal Shard is on this wiki, I definitely expected to have him read it at some point; however, I was shocked to find out that he had decided to read it and comment on his own accord within 15 minutes of my posting, not that I am complaining. The only people I have so far asked to read my post are Gaile, my close friends in real life, and my runner friends in Guild Wars. So unless Shard is secretly a top runner in Guild Wars, I never requested for him to read the post.
As for moving the topic, I know Gaile could always just archive the topic. I was simply giving her another option, if she should choose to take it. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 16:11, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Shard had said something of the like "Someone wants me to look at a page," he said your name, so he, myself and Jon all looked at it. I was under the impression that by Shard saying "someone wants me to look" that you had asked him too based on the content matching his current situation and dispute with Anet.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 16:15, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, no, I did not ask him to read it. However, I would not be surprised if "someone" else saw it and said he should check it out. In reality, I know very little of his dispute with Arena.Net, and really have no need to hear the full story. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 16:22, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I am not sure that I would comment in an official sense, but as a wiki member, I think that Alaris sums things up quite well. Did you ever see the sign: We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone? Every game service I've reviewed has a similar policy, but they are reasonable about how it applies. Obviously we're not going to refuse access to the vast majority of people, but if someone breaches the Rules of Conduct or the Use Agreement, we can and will take action to prevent him from continuing to play on our game servers, as is our right and, some would say, our responsibility.
Yes, it's true that a small number of player or former players use the Wiki to their own inappropriate purposes. Even this very thread has become the target of another attempted highjacking. ArenaNet does not administer the Guild Wars Wiki, so any concerns about behaviors here should be sent to the Bureaucrats or SysOps via the Admin noticeboard linked on the left of this and every page. I hope that answers the question. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:25, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
That answers the question quite nicely. Thank you for the response, Gaile. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 21:57, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Age?

ok i know i must not be the only one to bring this up but in the game we know EoTN period is 8 years after the searing so how old are our characters 2 years piror to entry to Ascalon post, cause this has been nagging at me for a bit and the only thing assured is our ppl are 8 years older then they were at the time of the searing(were has the time gone) and im wonderign how old they are during Pre--Lord randy taylor 04:28, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Not to confuse the issue, which is really simple question of age, however, EotN according the the trailer [4] occured 6 years after the Searing, not 8. Thus, to clarify, we have pre, wait 2 years, then post, wait 4 years, and then EotN. Again, that does not really answer your question about the age, but I just wanted to clear up some possible confusion. Blood Red Giant Mani Mortus 05:17, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I've always wondered what your character does after you finish pre. After you see giant fiery rocks destroy your town, do you fall into a coma for two years? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 05:45, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
No I just think the storyline jumps you into the action after 2 years of redevelopment. Or something like that. Dominator Matrix 05:47, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
I figured you were on patrol with whatshisface, the guy you talked to before you're allowed in the academy. Honestly though, it should've said "2 weeks later" or "2 months" or something, not years. 2 years is enough time for a lot of the plantlife to start regrowing. And why was the water turned to tar, anyway? Fire + water = steam as far as I know, not tar. --Jette User Jette awesome.png 05:49, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes it does seem odd for 2 years, but that's how it's played. With fire comes ashes, water+ashes with no plant life=tar. Dominator Matrix 05:53, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

"Welcome back, [Character Name]! It looks like the patrol went well." ... "You've been in the field, so you..." <-- dialog from the first quest after the searing (The_Krytan_Ambassador). Two years works better than two weeks imo because if it was two weeks we could think 'oh, it'll get fixed up' while after two years we can realise that it's not getting any better.
As for age, there's only four ages in GW. Child, teen, adult and old. We're adults! ;) I don't think it's every been specified exactly. It would be awfully odd for so many people to be the exact same age at the time of the searing. User Purple llama sig.png purple llama 06:37, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
According to Linsey's post at User talk:Gaile Gray/Archive Game-Related Topics/July 2007#Year GW:EN takes place?, Eye of the North takes place three years after Nightfall, six years after the main timeframe of Prophecies and eight years after the Searing. This is supported by Gwen's Story, which states that she was a prisoner of the Charr for seven years. As for ages, I'm pretty sure it's just "child", "adult" and "old" (or, more acurately, "adult with old-looking hair and / or face"), like in the original Sims. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 07:51, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Ashford Abbey Ghost

Hi! I was just wondering about a certain ghost, that can be seen behind the fence of Ashford Abbey in the Pre-searing Ascalon. Is there a history realted to that ghastly creature or it is just a random easter egg? -- Tom Stone 09:14, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom. I don't know of any history, personally. I always just thought he was a cool denizen of the area -- you know, a bit of atmosphere, a little human... err... ghostly interest. I will see if anyone knows more about his story, but I suspect he's just there to add spectral flavour. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 04:40, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmm... It may be as you suspect, that he (or maybe she?) is just a random ghastly visitor, placed there just for the visual effect, but if there is a story behind that entity, then it woul mean that Guild Wars still holds some mysteries for the unaware players, even after all those years of research here and n the other Wiki :) -- Tom Stone 11:20, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Just to clarify, he was talking about the link to Chosen that takes place in The Battle for Kyhlo: The Final Hour, just above the second image. Vili already updated it, but, just [[some article|pipe the link]], markup is irrelevant to the copyright of passage as it's not presented as part of the original text, which is not being reproduced with its original typesetting anyhow.
Though, TBH, I would have just un-linked that instance of chosen. Ascalon's Chosen is linked and mentioned in full like an inch or two above it, tops. --Star Weaver 20:55, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

PvP Question

Hello

I'm curious, what sort of PvP do you do? You just seem like an avid PvE nutcase, what, with all your minis and bows. It's kind of scary. I've also noticed you don't have a Deldrimor Shortbow, I think I have one, but it may be customised... King Neoterikos 07:02, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, don't let the minis and bows scare ya. Yes, I am a bit fanatical, but hey, I'm harmless. It's true I'm more PvE than PvP, but I do like both. I prefer Arenas to GvG although I did a lot of GvG at one time. I prefer teams to random. (I figure if someone is going to get stuck me with on their team, they should at least have the courtesy of a warning. ;) ) I like playing Ranger in PvP (and yes, I know that requires a bit of sacrifice on the part of my team, so I try to make it up to them by doing my best to make a decent contribution.) Over time, I've played a bit of Ele, Monk, Rit, and Paragon, too. I haven't done HvH. To tell the truth, the 1v1 style of combat doesn't call me too much -- I think I'm too social. :) That started with StarCraft, War III, etc., where I always had more fun as part of a team instead of mano a mano.
Let me check on that bow and let you know if I need one when I can access the game properly. Thanks for the offer! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:57, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Okay, quit the formalities... I really wish we could add some of the collectors from the goodbye Gaile event as Charmable animals... or even an egg at the end of a long quest chain that takes us across all 4 games (reminiscent of the Black moa chick).

That's what I did. Kept losing miserably on my monk, until got lucky to get a team of 2 monks and 2 eles, and we steamrolled through 10 wins with 5:0 half the time until the other monk left, got 2 more with a necro that replaced the monk, and then I DC'd... :( Though, it was rather frustrating to end up on Grenth side about 3/4 of the time... In an average group vs another average group, Grenth seems to lose 9/10. Why is it so un-balanced? I mean, yellow snow versus avalanche is LAUGHABLE, you get 10 seconds of disease that doesn't do hardly any damage, and spreads back to you when they run up, while avalanche gives a rather significant advantage, it's ridiculous. :( I would like to see a statistic of total wins on Dwayna vs. Grenth. I'm speaking more for the general population of players, I don't think its fair that the have to play against strategized teams in a "random" fun snowball event, it then becomes more of stress then pleasure for them.. Believe it or not there are still some first timers and such and they might not even get enough CC shards for a weapon or gift.. d2jsp

I was wondering if trading thru http://forums.d2jsp.org/ is legal.

Why am I concerned? because of this. You can buy forum gold with real life currency but not sell forum gold for real life currency, and once you have forum gold you can then trade that forum gold for items in-game, or trade items in-game for forum gold.

So in short, you do not sell items for real life currency, you cannot sell forum gold for real life currency, so you cannot earn any real life currency by using this forum.

My brother uses it to trade items in D2, and I wanna use it to get "richer" in GW by trading items for forum gold in other games and use that forum gold to buy items and/or platinum/ecto's in GW. This would be a vessel to transfer my wealth in other games to GW.

Thank you for reading. talk Qaletaqa Hania 15:27, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Chances are the answer is going to be no since ANet reserves the right to kittenstomp your account at any time for any reason they see fit, but since you would not be "buying" ArenaNet property (in-game gold), they'd probably be hard-pressed to point out which part of the EULA you violated. Essentially, it would be the same as someone giving you gold for free. However, due to the fact that the forum does provide RMT, they could be subject to a brief and brutal lawsuit. That said, don't take my word for it. I'm sure Gaile will happily correct anything I've misworded here. ··· Danny Pew Pew 16:42, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. Real money 'forum gold' game item. IMO, NOT kosher. --Max 2 17:00, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
It's not game item -> forum gold -> real money, you cannot sell your forum gold for real money. You are paying real money to use his service/forum, not for in-game items.
Let's say you have items in D2 and you wanna trade those items for items in GW by converting those items into forum gold, you only have to buy forum gold with real money if you don't have any items in any other game that you can trade for forum gold. So if you do have items in other games you don't need to buy forum gold, so then there is no real money involved. The only thing forum gold can be traded for are in-game items not real money.
You can use real money to buy forum gold but you don't need to. talk Qaletaqa Hania 18:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Anyway, I won't use it if Anet says "no", and I haven't used it yet because I am not sure if it's against the GW EULA, that's why i'm asking it. talk Qaletaqa Hania 18:32, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
RMT isn't restricted solely to currency; any "real-world commodity" constitutes a breach of EULA. This "forum gold" is most certainly a commodity, and, as it's something that exists outside of Guild Wars, ArenaNet could easily make a case that it's "real-world", for the sake of upholding EULA. So, to answer the original question, it is very bannable.
That being said, they can kittenstomp your account for no reason whatsoever, so I strongly suggest that you don't attempt it. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 18:42, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
@Raine: I won't attempt it unless they give me the green light. Also like I said before the use of real money is optional, people who do pay for "forum gold" most likely don't have any items in any game mentioned on that forum that they wanna trade, also you cannot sell the forum gold for real money because if they find out you will be banned from the forum and loose all your forum gold.
That beeing said, I have tons and tons of items in various games that I don't play anymore so I would trade all of those items for forum gold and then trade that forum gold for items in GW, so no real money is involved. So I would just be transferring my wealth in other games to GW, and probably let someone else get richer in another game. Transferring all my fruits of labor of one game to another. Interdimensional trading? I think each game has it's own dimension.
All I have to do now is wait for an official answer. I play safe in every aspect of my life, wich sucks, but atleast it's safe. If it's not safe I'll stay in my bubble (If it's, ok then i'll use it. If it's not ok then i'm not gonna use it. If the game still exists when i'm 50 I still wanna be able to access my account). talk Qaletaqa Hania 20:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually Raine if it was real world commodities then they wouldn't allow trading gold for character pics. That issue was addressed a week ago I think. That being said though, the only way to know for sure is to hear what Gaile has to say.~>Sins WDBUser The Sins We Die By Sig.png 00:56, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Here is an unofficial response, while I await the opportunity to have an internal discussion about the matter: I cannot personally see how the use of such a site would be allowed. No matter that you do not have to use real-world money, or that real-world money might be once or twice removed from the process, there is a component of real-world money involves. As that is the case, I would not get involved in this site in any way, shape, or form.

I will get an official response and post that when I have it. But my advice in the meantime is to not get involved with any site that has a component that involves real-world money. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 01:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Gaile for the response, take your time discussing it. I have this page on watch so...
One thing tho about the next sentence:
"But my advice in the meantime is to not get involved with any site that has a component that involves real-world money."
Does that mean I should stay away from http://www.guildwarsguru.com/ and http://guildwars.incgamers.com/?
Because if i'm correct for the Elite Membership on http://www.guildwarsguru.com/ there is also real-world money involved, same goes for the available Paid Subscriptions on http://guildwars.incgamers.com/. You can trade to on both those websites, you have the option to buy an "upgraded membership status" with real-world money. On d2jsp they just use something else to keep the website/forum up and running, no "upgraded membership" there if i'm correct, just something to trade with inbetween games.
On another note, I think the GW EULA is outdated and lacks many things that should be changed and/or added.
One thing that bothers me is not having an option to sell your account when you are bored with the game, I don't need such an option atm but in the future I might want to. Many not online games I have sold in the past because I was bored of it, I played Magic to (not a video game for those who don't know it) and I stopped playing it because it was to expensive and I then sold all my cards and I would like to have an option like that to do so with my GW account for when or if I get bored with it.
I wish I could make a suggestion for that. It's not an in-game issue, it has to do with RMT, so where do I make that suggestion?
Stuff annoys me from time to time, not anyones fault tho. I just need to see things written down before I can decide or better said let the black on white decide what I can or can't do, I mostly follow the rules unless I disagree, If I disagree then I confront "the people" behind that rule with it and tell them what I think about it and what can be changed, added and/or removed. They'll probably still do whatever they want, but I then would have said what I think about it. talk Qaletaqa Hania 04:06, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
I do not see a correlation between paying for some sort of special membership in a forum and selling in-game items for real-world money. The site is doing that through accepting real-world money and turning it into a means of acquiring in-game items.
The selling of game accounts is entirely counterproductive to game developers and to gamers, as well. Think about it: Take the practice to an extreme, and you could have a developer spending many millions of dollars to develop a game, only to sell a single copy, which is then passed along to multiple users over time, at a profit only to the reseller and with no financial support for the developers. Again, that's admittedly a bizarrely extreme example, but it points out that it is only through selling copies of the game -- one user per account -- that a developer derives the money to support that game and to fund future expansions of content, updates, bug fixes, improvements, and the creation of entirely new games.
That is why you do not "own" the account, but are given license to play it by the company. (Just like your ticket to a movie means you may view it but do not own it.) Without the no-resale provision, and without staunch measures against those who engage in the practice, game development would cease. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 16:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
The difference between a TCG and an MMORPG is the End-User License Agreement. TCG's don't come with an EULA, at least yet, which is more or less why you're permitted to resell your cards. You had the option before creating your account to accept or decline the EULA, and until you accepted it you had the option to resell the game without worry. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with the practices of many game developers regarding EULA's, but I understand it. (If you dislike the idea of not "owning" your account, I'd strongly suggest reading through a MS Windows EULA or the previous Facebook EULA - they're both quite terrifying, or at least used to be.) ··· Danny Pew Pew 17:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
@Gaile: Thank you Gaile, I understand what you are saying, I think about it very differently tho but that's why I wanna make a suggestion about it wich would make both parties happy (Game developers and players), but I do not know where to make such a suggestion. If you can tell me where to make such a suggestion I would be happy, I don't wanna make the suggestion on this wiki tho because it's an idea I once thought out for when I would make a game, but me making a game is probably not gonna happen. The idea can and probably would satisfy alot of people, including the gaming company. It also could create some jobs wich is always a good thing.
If I would have lived closer to ArenaNet I would just come by the office and explain my idea, because I think it's a great idea, but unfortunately I live far away and don't have the money to stop by. It's also the first time I ever thought of goeing to a company with an idea, it's because I think ArenaNet is a company that is original and open minded, and because they could offer and/or give me what I want, wich would not be a job (would be cool tho) and/or money. Blablabla... i'm gonna stop here.
@Danny: I did read the MS Windows EULA a long time ago and I remember I was shocked so yeah, and about Facebook, well let's just say I don't always read the EULA's from every website i'm a member of, I would have to read multiple EULA's on a daily basis. One EULA that also shocked me was the YouTube EULA. talk Qaletaqa Hania 08:25, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I spoke to the Live Team and to the Support Lead about such sites. First, some policy info:

  1. We do not support these sites, so it is "use at your own risk."
  2. We do action accounts when players trade real world money for in-game items or currency.
  3. We do not action the account of someone who buys forum gold for real-world money outside of the game.
  4. We do action the account of someone who advertises or trades items or accounts from other games within Guild Wars. This would include such things as "Trading GW account for XXX account" or "Rejoining GW. I’ll sell my YYY account for 100 Ectos." or "Buy my ZZZ gold; whisper me."

And before I provide a bit more info, I want to preface it by saying I am not referring to this specific site, but to this kind of site in general. The most important thing you might want to know about the "use at your own risk" comment is that Support sees a lot of complaints about these types of sites. One Support Team member went so far as to say he had never seen one that was (or remained) legitimate. Anyway, as you know, Support cannot assist our players who write about these external sites, but the team is aware of many problems related to the sites. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 17:40, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Gaile for talking to the Live team and the Support lead, but just to check if I understand correctly.
  1. You will not help if something goes wrong if you use a site of this type. (example: If I get scammed by using the site, then I shouldn't come crying to NCSoft support and/or Arenanet)
  2. We can use it as long as we don't trade in-game items for real world money. If we do we can get banned.
  3. You will not ban a person who buys "forum gold" with real world money and uses that "forum gold" to trade items from GW and/or other games on that site.
  4. We cannot advertise and/or trade accounts and/or items from other games within GW, if we do we can get banned for it. This includes the trading of GW accounts for other game accounts.
If it's correct then it leaves alot of room to play with for both parties, and I can see some loopholes wich I'll think about, i'll ask about it when I think it could be a problem for us (the players) and/or for NCSoft and/or Arenanet.
I'm still not sure if i'll use the website tho, If I would use it, then I would never bother NCSoft and/or Arenanet if I would get scammed because I know it would be my fault. I only trust the website for about 15-50%. That one support member is correct tho, no website and/or any service, real life or virtual, is a 100% legitimate, that's why I never fully trust anyone or anything. I'm 15% weird, 80% Aspergers and 5% or less of something else they call normal :P. talk Qaletaqa Hania 18:57, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Reading that response, Gaile, it sounds like a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, almost. It's slightly confusing. I had a friend a while back who ended up with a week ban because someone (probably a gold-seller who'd mistaken him for someone else, possibly just a very generous person), gave him 100 ecto - no comments, no questions asked, no nothing. Which brings up another good point: how does Support differentiate between extremely generous players or players who may be quitting Guild Wars and gold-sellers? Obviously, I don't expect a direct answer to that, as it's along the same lines of "how does support detect bots?" but I'd love to hear a general explanation if possible. ··· Danny Pew Pew 19:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
To clarify my "don't ask, don't tell" comment, I mean that if Support doesn't know you bought forum gold, which they'd be hard-pressed to prove, they won't ban you for using said forum gold to buy in-game items. ··· Danny Pew Pew 19:21, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, Danny, but I don't see how your question about your friend's situation correlates to the question of using a third-party website. And, with respect, I cannot give details on how we differentiate legitimate trades from gold deliveries -- that would be extremely imprudent of us to make public. All I can say is that "false positives" related to RMTs are extremely few, in the overall scope of things. Naturally, if an accidental block is placed in relation to a legitimate trade or a gift, the player should contact Support for further review of the incident. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:27, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I wasn't really wondering about my friend's ban. I'm not sure if Support revoked the ban or if he just waited it out - I probably should've used the word "acquaintance" or "friend of a friend" rather than "friend". I'm just wondering if there's any documentation that would assist in proving that you really did just happen to be the lucky recipient of 100 ectos from someone with an offline status. =p Most RMT providers tell you not to talk to the delivery person, and I've heard that many deliver while "offline". I'm just wondering if there'd be any means by which a user might expedite or facilitate the process of getting their account back in the case of a legitimate gift. If there's not, no hard feelings - I'd be willing to bet 100 ecto that no one ever just gives me 100 ecto out of the blue. Haha. ··· Danny Pew Pew 20:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Well if I would be banned while using this forum then I would give a link to my profile on that forum so they can view my posts, don't know if it would help tho. I would also ask the mediator and the person I traded with to contact support and ask them to refer to my support issue, because most likely they would be banned to.

If and when I get the oppurtunity I'll setup my own trading forum, wich would not involve any real money, it would involve mediators who are trustworthy. I know some players, wich I helped transfer large amounts of in-game items, that would be suitable to be one. I would also ask Anet and/or NCSoft support to help me keep those mediators to be honest, like supervising those mediators and when or if they scam that they will be banned. I would then also use multiple accounts for donations given by players to help scammed players on the forum. Haven't worked out the idea but it's something I would like to do :). Create an honest, caring and supervised place to trade with the help of Anet and/or NCSoft. If something is missing, try and create it. A man can dream right? :D. talk Qaletaqa Hania 22:12, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

As I understand your words, you are concerned about having trouble purchasing copies of Guild Wars in China. (Is that correct?) I will pass along that concern to our International Team and ask if they have any suggestions.
With regard to the future, I do not know what the plans are for Guild Wars 2 as far as a release or support within China. I remain hopeful that you will find it much easier to be and remain a Guild Wars player when Guild Wars 2 is released! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 22:08, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
(as an aside, i need to remeber my password to log into Wiki Jaime) From the looks of things, this person was a GW palyer for sometime till the closure of GW in china, one of many according to their description, who now feel let down by not being able to play GW any longer...the discussion of buying GW keys in china was so they could replace their existing closed account, and they seem to find it difficult to play on the US servers. So they are an existing GW player according to what they say up there. :) Just helping clarify, as am not sure you got that from your reply gaile. :) not a new player, but an existing one. :)
Thanks for your help, Jaime. But yes, I did understand these are existing Guild Wars players who are playing or who would like to purchase access keys to continue playing the game, or would (I assume) like to be able to expand what they currently possess. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 20:37, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Quick Color Question

Hi Gaile I have a question on the coloring of your armor. What dye combo did you use to make your armor? It rocks! I made a female Ranger going for Survivor as a Yin-Yang to my LDoA Spike Firemane they are both doning the Momument Armor but I really like the color you use! Appreciate it! Hi Firemane, I'm sorry I don't remember. I was messing around with dyes a lot one day, and I came up with something that worked well, I felt, on that particular "fabric." If you get hired, do me a favor: steal the hard drive with the source code on it and mail it to me in a cooler filled with ice, tomato paste, the hard drive in a static-resistant wrap, and a sign on the side that says "HUMAN HEAD" in messy red ink. @Jette -- I'm going to ignore tose comments. (The source code is in Washington anyway, silly.)
@TR -- I am rather prejudiced about degrees and areas of study, and I'll be the first to admit it. I don't think anyone can go wrong with English (or their principle language) as, at the least, a minor. I'm not sure how that ties with your career plans, but I think it ties very well with life as a whole. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:30, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
You're up late. I haven't decided a minor yet, but I do have French classes. I had 18 hours of college before I finished high school, so after this semester (my first) I will be a sophomore. I personally think if NCsoft needs a new HQ for a video game, they should go to Michigan. We have 3 big universities with programmers coming out left and right. By that logic, Illinois, with some 6 universities within two hours of the chicago area, would make a great HQ, too, even though I'd highly recommend staying out of my home state unless you appreciate the idea of being a resident of the only state to incarcerate two consecutive governors. =p Also, I'm a Comp Sci major, and I would strongly suggest not going into Comp Sci unless you enjoy the following: sleep deprivation, trial and error, more trial and error, more sleep deprivation, and reading dozens upon dozens of pages of API and documentation. However, I would recommend an International Business minor or certificate and getting good work experience, even if it means taking jobs that don't pay you anything and expect you to do things that should require at least a few months of training. ··· Danny Pew Pew 19:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
