Proposed Policy

How do I make a proposed policy for Guild Wars Wiki:Sign your comments?--Eloc 01:41, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

The RC Flood

Gem, both you and Dirigible are literally flooding the RC. I'm having some trouble finding other edited articles within the flood. Could you maybe slow down, just a bit? --User:AlbinobirdAlbinobird 12:03, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

It's over quickly, not too many images left. It's no use to slow down. -- Gem (gem / talk) 12:05, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Alright, I'm just not used to seeing that many edits and red links at once on the RC page. --User:AlbinobirdAlbinobird 12:07, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Here's the solution, User talk:Gem#*evil voice*. :P Sorry about the spam, btw. done for now. --Dirigible 12:09, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Question about User Pages

So I've decided that I really want to help make GuildWarsWiki something special, and I've even started by creating the page for Flint's Fleshcleaver. I'm getting a good handle on how to make pages and such, but I need help with something...my user page. I want to have those fun little square notices, like you have on your user page. "This user has such and such." How do I go about making those? Is there a template I can use to build those myself? And what about the official looking ones, the ones that talk about the level of competency I have in certain languages, what kinds of play I prefer, stuff like that? Umm, thanks in advance. --Kiyoshi 20:34, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

It's called a Userbox. They're pretty easy to make, really - there is a template to simplify things, too. It's used like this (this is a simplified version; to see more options, view the actual template at Template:Userbox): {{userbox|First section color|Second section color|First section content (usually a picture)|Second section content (usually text)}} While that seems a little complicated, let me give you an example of it: {{userbox|blue|lightblue|[[Image:Energy.png]]|This user likes energy.}} It'll give something like this:
Energy.png This user likes energy.

Anyway, I hope that helps you out =) (and a quick apology to Gem for ganking his question =P ) MisterPepe talk 20:51, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
Thanks Pepe. ;) Kiyoshi: The user box template is the easy way to create the boxes, but I've coded the boxes manually so that I could have their width change according to the screen size of the viewer. You can look at my user page code to see how I've done them, shouldn't be to hard to understand really. -- Gem (gem / talk) 07:08, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
Gem, I have another question. I liked the way you did your tables in your profile. I am especially fond of the ones you did for yourself and your girlfriend. I would like to use something similar, but with my own images, information, and color scheme, how do I go about doing that? I tried to copy the sections myself and fill them in with my own info (I was going to credit you, I swear), but I couldn't make it work right for me. Also, how do you set them side by side? I plan to do one for my real life information, and one with information about my characters and whatnot. I realize this is a lot of questions, I apologize.--Kiyoshi 15:28, 2 April 2007 (EDT)
A short introduction to the code I used. The boxes are in reality a table. This line starts the table:
{| width="100%" style="background: transparent;"
This ends the table:
|}
This starts a new line of boxes:
|-
This is one individual box:
| valign="top" width="20%"|
 <div style="border:solid black 1px;margin:1px">
 <table cellspacing="0" style="background:#F2F2F2"><tr>
 <td style="width:50px;height:60px;background:#999999;text-align:center;font-size:14pt">[[Image:User Gem opera user box.png]]</td>
<td style="font-size:8pt;padding:4pt;line-height:1.25em">This user contributes using Opera, but also uses FF and IE.</td>
 </tr></table></div>
The first line has the width of the box in percentages of the screen width. You should set this according to the amount of boxes that you want on a line. 25% for 4 boxes, 33% for 3 boxes and so on. The colors (some in english, some as color codes) are easy to test, just change the color and see what part of the box changes. You can also play with the numbers in the boxes to vary the box soze, border size, etc.
I hope this helped. :) -- Gem (gem / talk) 17:13, 2 April 2007 (EDT)

Guild formatting update

I tweaked your infobox template a bit =P Mind taking a look at Guild Wars Wiki talk:Formatting/Guilds#Example guild and telling me what you think? I'm trying to come up with a formatting guide draft. Thanks! MisterPepe talk 17:12, 3 April 2007 (EDT)

I saw your tweaking and the example guild pages, but didn't comment because I didn't have anything to say and because GWiki is currently heating up. (Back to GWiki -> ) -- Gem (gem / talk) 18:02, 3 April 2007 (EDT)

Hello

are you there? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Wings That Heal .

Yes? -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:02, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

ok, so was i banned for using the line *generally says* fools!? -- Wings That Heal 09:04, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

First of all, when discussing, please use on eor more colons at the start of the line to indent your replies so that people see which post you are replying to.
I have allready explained why you were banned from GWiki, see my and your talk pages there. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:06, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
i read all your talk page, and sigma had things confused a little lol, but i didnt ignore your warning, i didnt insult anyone with *generally says* fools! -- Wings That Heal 09:08, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
I specifically told you not to use the word fool, which you immediately then did. I ignored that by onli warning you again, after which you used used the word nerd. 3 days is definitely not a long time and you'll be able to edit this wiki. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:11, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

how can you stop anyone from using a single word? and *generally says* fools, doesnt hurt anyone, and why am i gettting banned from this one? -- Wings That Heal 09:13, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

It is not the word that got you banned, it is the way how you talk and disregard what is said to you. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:18, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

i relised i made an error so i removed it from the userpage, but all that did was get me a 2 hour ban, flamming on my talk page then a 3 day ban of EASTER! -- Wings That Heal 09:21, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

See the reply of User:84-175 on my talk page. Even if I, for some weird reason, removed your ban, you would just get a longer ban put on you. 3 days is definitely a lot less than it could have been. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:26, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
why would i get a longer ban? -- Wings That Heal 09:29, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
how does someone like that become an admin, he must be hated by a lot of people -- Wings That Heal 09:30, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
That comments shows how little you know about the wiki and its regular users. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:42, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

what because i dont know an old admin that was before my time, i cant use wiki? and you didnt or someone else didnt answer my question on the other wiki, under guest book and also 3 months sounds a bit overreacting to the word fool, and 2 hours is overreacting but liveable for a mistake that was very quickly fixed, like less than a minute. -- Wings That Heal 09:46, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

*sigh* I didn't say that you can't/shouldn't use the wiki even if you don't know all of the senior users. Your bad attitude shows up in most of your comments. Every second comment includes something which resembles an insult. For example the latest "how does someone like that become an admin, he must be hated by a lot of people" without you even knowing him at all. Could you please just stop now, think about your actions and comments, and then return to contribute helpfully to the wiki after 3 days. If you push me any further today, I'll follow the suggestion of 84-175. -- Gem (gem / talk) 09:51, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Fine! Then! ill just play this is wiki for three days -- Wings That Heal 09:52, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
If by play you mean do something productive, go ahead, if by play you mean your usual bullshit, GTFO — Skuld 10:01, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

omf offensive langauge, does he get banned? -- Wings That Heal 10:02, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Skuld is on a much better stance than you. You have zero contributions to GWiki main name space during all of the time you have been to the wiki, where Skuld has thousands of them. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:07, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
For reference, your main name space edits, your main name space talk edits. Then there are about two dozen build contribs to 3 different builds. Everything else is on user pages or user talk pages. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:15, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

breaking the rules is still breaking the rules, and i tried to add a build, but i consulted with many people first, i helped out zerris with a few linking issues on his build and other places i have been, like fixing dead end articals -- Wings That Heal 10:10, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

See the referene links above. What comes to Skulds comment, the language wasn't appropriate, but the message was. In your case both the language and the message were inappropriate. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:15, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

but isnt offensive langauge agisnt the rules? -- Wings That Heal 10:16, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

So? I'm not going to ban Skuld for one offensive word in either of the wikis. You just don't seem to understand how a wiki works. Stop allready and start contributing or atleast stop bothering me. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:18, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
There is no rule that says "swear and you will be banned". There is also no rule that says "don't swear and you will never get banned". Fortunately, common sense is held in relative high regard here. --84-175 (talk) 10:19, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

one last question then, i got banned for one mistake is all of my wiki, i added a ticket to someones user page, then someone else broke the rules by reverting, so i undid there wrongness, but i guess thats how the wiki works so i'm off to more talk_pages cya -- Wings That Heal 10:21, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

and so i can use offensive langauge as long as it isnt directed at anyone? -- Wings That Heal 10:21, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

No. A user with such a high reputation like Skuld will get away with something like that, but a user with no usefull contributions and 3 bans will not get away with bad behavior. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:25, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

o ok that makes heaps of sense, skuld can use offensive language yet new people like me cant, i get it now you are all one *goes to use ofensive lagauge, but wait im not skuld sorry* big happy family

The difference between you skuld is quite great, but Skuld has contributed a great deal towards the Wiki, consider if this were a sports team would you fire your coach for 1 poor game despite the fact he had won the championship previous, or would you fire the coach that did the same (only repeatedly over and over) and had produced no results at all. The choice i quite simple, the issue is the fact you have contributed nothing positive to this wiki. --Jamie (Talk Page) 10:31, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

since you used a bad example i will use one, does a killer get let free because he only killed one person, and was a charity giver, but a person who say kills a couple just go to jail? -- Wings That Heal 10:33, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

So swearing is like killing a man? Wow, I didn't know. I'll go kill someone then. Sorry i nadvance for not replying to any further comments for the next few hours or so. ;D -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:35, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

nope, either is having a bad coach, but least mine has to do with rules and laws -- Wings That Heal 10:36, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Gem, your kinda like me about missing my girl. You big softy :p
On a rather sour note, I couldn't help but to read this once I found it. I see that it is over for now, but I am concerned regarding a comment of yours. You stated, "No. A user with such a high reputation like Skuld will get away with something like that, but a user with no usefull contributions and 3 bans will not get away with bad behavior." This is not the mindset an admin should have. No one should be given special treatment regardless of who they are. Let me give a "What If" scenario. Rainith is my friend, an admin, and a good contributor. If he started to insult other users in a manner unbefitting him, I would give him a warning like everyone else. If he continued, I would ban him for a period of time. Reputation has nothing to do when you abuse it or is a factor to allow others to get away with things that you will not let newer users get away with. I have even asked Rainith before to be the one to ban me should I get out of line and he agreed. Even said he'd be happy to. :p — Gares 11:38, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

finally -- Wings 11:39, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

You're taking the stuff out of context. The difference was that Skuld was making a point and hadn't been warned for abusive language just before the comment, although his comment definitely wasn't nice. Wings on the other hand wasn't making a point, it was more like war mongering and I had just warned him for that reason. I understand what you mean, but you have to understand what I meant. Don't understand the words just like they stand but try to understand them how I meant them. -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:43, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

wow i could have my own archive :) -- Wings 11:47, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Gem, let me read it again after lunch. Understanding how words are meant is basically in the eye of the beholder when it comes to the internet, but I hope you see what I was trying to convey. The most innocent of statements, if worded wrong or read out of context could be considered something totally different. Wings, this does not mean you can continue here what you did on GWiki or do something totally new here that breaks policy. You should have not even brought your comments about your ban to this wiki. You should have contacted Gem or another admin via our contact info. You are only starting off on the wrong foot by bringing this here. GWiki and GWWiki are two separate entities. — Gares 12:14, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Take your time. And I did understand what you meant. -- Gem (gem / talk) 12:16, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Skill Icons @ 225x225

Hey Gem, I did some horrible work today and the result can be found here. Like I said, it's a direct 'rip' from the Sealed Deck playing cards, without all Nightfall skills, and I also noticed that some skills are missing. But they are already missing from the Sealed Deck cards. (I.e. 73 skills for Assa, while there should be 75 (Desperate Strike & Fox Fangs are the ones missing).) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 11:28, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Great, thank you! I'm aware of the missing skills and it isn't a huge problem. I'm just using a few of the icons for some photoshopping. :) -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:31, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Argh, you aren't going to mass upload them to the wiki for me? ;-) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 11:34, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Sorry, no. You'll have to do it yourself, I have better things to do, like... like... something... :P -- Gem (gem / talk) 11:37, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
Damn... well, would there be a use for these larger icons on the wiki? As far as I know, LordBiro wouldn't be too happy with these large icons in his draft 5 version. :-) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 11:41, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
The template could auto-resize them to 64px and add a yellow/black border, and the redirect could be removed from them so people could click the icons to view them hi-res, but other than that I can't really see a use for them. You wouldn't catch me anywhere near that particular project though... it stinks of effort :P --Santax 11:46, 5 April 2007 (EDT)
I've been toying with the idea of using a photo mosaic program with these. Feel free to liberate the idea from the confines of my head. (You'd want the Dervish and Paragon skills too—low res versions would be better than nothin'.) -- Dashface User Dashface.png 21:54, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

i can safely say that it does not always work gem, i was recently working on my userpage, and due to a wireless network hickup, it gave me an error 404 page after pressing preview or save button. i quickly restored internet connection, though pressing the back button didnt give me back the data in the textfield... it gave me an error like "the page you are trying to view has expired"... lucky i keep backups after major changes in text files on my local computer though - Saelfaer 07:20, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi. you must remember that this Wiki has other responsibilities than just being a community encyclopedia, it will be an ingame resource. read my second post on the topic in the builds page. P.S.
