Gave up?

I know most of Anet has given up on GW1 and moved on to GW2, but Linsey seemed to be sticking around. I think after the april "content" update she just said.. oh what the heck, $%$# those bitter old bastards who still play the game, it's not like they're paying. I'm taking a bloody vacation somewhere sunny with a marguerita and no Internet connection, and they can all perma and roj until they drop dead. Yeah. -starts dialing travel agent-. :) 187.37.54.50 16:35, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe she's just playing GW herself? User Xelonir sig.pngXelonir 16:48, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe, just maybe she is doing her job instead of messing around on a wiki. Also, maybe she is the head of the live team which is why she is working on GW instead of GW2. Misery 17:41, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't know, Misery, those are pretty big maybes. I mean, Lindsey never does work, and what does the Live team have to do with GW? ... Oh, right. (Satanael 17:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC))
but the wiki is srs bzns :/ --Cursed Angel Q.Q 17:45, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
TBH I think linsey (and regina but mainly linsey) is the only member of anet staff that actually cares about GW.Flaming her seems like a french thing to do Lilondra User Lilondra Sig.png*panda* 17:46, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
I think they all care, they just have other priorities (GW2), I'm not sure why that is seen as evil or otherwise bad. Also, Joe should be included on that list. (Satanael 17:52, 19 May 2009 (UTC))
Hey, even you Fanboi suckups have to admit, over 5 days without a comment from Anyone on the live team, and no Dev Explanation either, gives the abandonment theories a bit of glaring luster that even your rose tinted glasses can't brush aside for the rest of us out here in reality land. That said, I'd be on vacation too... but only b/c it'd be due every couple months since they're probably all on hourly with no overtime anyway ever since the Bush admin dubbed software jobs exempt from such. And in Korea they'd be in some kinda grindhouse sweatshop designing everything around Microtransactions. ...Oh Wait. --ilr 18:00, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
We keep getting updates and skill balances. I really don't see how any accusations like those above can hold any water. Realistically, they can't fix everything and add tons of new features and work on GW2 at the same time. Prioritising means that some things will be delayed so that other things get done faster. And personally, I agree that GW2 > new GW1 content to keep us playing > farm nerfing. Permasins need to get nerfed, but I too would *delay* that to get content out. -- Alaris_sig Alaris 18:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
To be honest, 5 days with no comment is actually pretty normal for Anet staff. When it gets to Izzy levels, then you can think about bitching. Misery 18:04, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
If I'm not mistaking the have to wiki on their own time. She isn't forced to do this.If you'd have visited my profile once you would know I'm not a fanboy.I'm just saying that you should not declare linsey the cause of all evil (or imbalance whatever suits you best) Lilondra User Lilondra Sig.png*panda* 18:08, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

...in Any case, I'm clearly giving Linsey the benefit of a doubt here and blaming their working conditions instead (or Marketing... Marketing is always an industry's greatest villain) --ilr 20:54, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

This topic really shouldn't be here... User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:49, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Shrug. It's not like she'll ever have time to read it anyway. And i have nothing against linsey personally. Anet decided to throw GW in the dumpster, and she decided to throw skill balance in the dumpster. its all good. I'm playing someth else. :) Improving the game at this point would not make me come back. Serious new content would (new god realm, Extra-hard Mode, titles) and that's NOT happenin this century. So sit back and relax guys. Light a candle for the game you used to love and move on. 201.6.59.21 01:50, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

@IP Linsey does read this page as well as other pages and responds accordingly as seen here. The fact of the matter is, Linsey cares passionately about this game and the player base, there are times when I've talked to her and she is working at 3am on a Sunday or she is actually sleeping at the office over night to finish a project. She knows full well about many issues: Shadowform, heroes in PvP, skill balance, she is fully aware and wants to make appropriate changes, but there are other factors to consider as to why she can't do everything at once a.) there isn't enough time or man power to make all of the changes she wants at the snap of a finger, there is a lot that needs to be done, and she cannot do it all in one day. B.) she has to consider EVERYONE who plays and each different player type. A game like this is difficult to balance in those regards as there are varying types--pve/pvp/casual/hardcore/people wanting easy wins or fixes/people wanting challenges. Any changes or updates must consider the possible alienation of clients, and anet does not want to lose players. C.) I've said this before and I will say it again, she has tougher skin than all of you realize, if she hasn't responded to something either someone else said what needed to be said or she is actually extremely busy. She isn't hiding or dodging. She does reply, she does read all of this and she does care. My main point is, she cannot do everything that she wants to or that needs to be done, but that is no fault of her's, GW is in a terrible state, unfortunately she inherited that, and when you look at the fact that they are making a whole new game, its very apperent that new game is where all the ideas and content that would have gone int GW1 will be put. From my perspective, as wonderful a person as Linsey is and as much as I've enjoyed talking and playing with her, I understand many people's frustration with the game. I myself have "retired" along with everyone in my guild and most of my friends except Adrin, Raine and Klug who are really the only ones still playing 24/7 (though Raine is afk a lot :P ) For me, its too late to save GW, though I commend Linsey's efforts and passions 100%. I appriciate the fact that she loves this game as much as she does. Its unfortunate the resources for her to do great things are just not there for whatever reason a.) a new game coming out gets preference or b.) the economy...whatever the reason is, just understand she as an individual is not at fault, its is rather, Anet as a whole.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 15:50, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I can sympathize with the "All work no play makes Jack a dull boy" ...especially for those of us with a.d.d. ...eventually ya just go stir crazy nomatter how much ya enjoy your work. But that still doesn't explain why This Section was never updated. It's not "wiki". --ilr 17:38, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes Yasmin, although I meant to do it as a caustically humorous tease, the essence is this: anet decided that gw isn't a priority (and between you and me, I can't blame them even if I suffer from the decision, as improvements are unlikely to bring NEW players, which would be the only source of revenue, as there is no monthly fee). But anyway, it isn't a priority. Hence, it has few, almost no resources. My criticism is that the few resources that ARE there are being misused - for skill balance, which is my main pet peeve, you can see last 2008 how lots of costly (in time/effort) changes were made as a result of the bad decision of boosting shadow form. That's using resources badly, regardless of having few or lot of time/manpower. THAT is my criticism. It is that whatever time they spend, they're not spending it wisely (in MY opinion). THat's all. And her journal update clarifies things anyway, but it's nothing I didn't expect. 187.37.58.186 19:29, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Just so you all know, Linsey is NOT the person responsible for the Developer updates, those come from Regina, so if that's what this rant is all about, why don't you take it there. Linsey has explained her absence from the wiki on her Journal. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Ya got any proof of that? And I don't mean "Regina Posts them up"... I mean actual Authorship --ilr 20:25, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
You got any proof of ANYTHING you say here? Give it a rest, they are NOT required to give you guys yet ANOTHER place to rant and rave about how badly you think they suck if they choose not to. This wall of text because there was a skill update without a Dev update to go along with it is just ridiculous. If it continues, Linsey is just going to go the way of Izzy, and stop talking to us all together. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

People these days have no patience anymore Linsey, don't let it get to you and do it when you are able to. Rushing things only gives you more problems, the faster you work the faster people will want you to work. People should really learn that patience is a virtue and pays off in the long run (thats what I think). Sections like this are filth and should've been binned from the start, but like everyone should know, every action has a reaction and the way this is goeing I think the reaction of it beeing binned wouldn't have been better. To many people to please. Qaletaqa 01:49, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

@Wyn, et Al: HOW was asking for a simple explanation even considered ATTACKING them or saying they suck? An explanation of the skill changes themselves finally got posted so let's take it easy now. --ilr 06:53, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

It just seems people weren't impressed with the skill update and there was no developer update to back up the changes. When you have this many people playing guild wars your going to get all kinds. That goes for the wiki as well. Dervish-tango-icon-200.pngDero Ahmonati 17:01, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

@ilr: "Hey, even you Fanboi suckups have to admit, over 5 days without a comment from Anyone on the live team, and no Dev Explanation either, gives the abandonment theories a bit of glaring luster that even your rose tinted glasses can't brush aside for the rest of us out here in reality land." That's not asking nicely, that's demanding in an offensive manner, and yes, it's also attacking. They don't answer to you, you are not entitled, dev updates are a luxury, we should all treat them as such. (Satanael 19:35, 22 May 2009 (UTC))
I challenged, and will continue to challenge those regular Wiki posters to this page as Overly-Passionate and overly-protective Fans. It is not Slander if that's exactly how they behave, IE: they answer snark with twice the snark and rudeness. but I did not speak ill of anyone on the GW1 Live team. If you have further issues with this, please take it up on my User Talk page. Thank you. --ilr 22:10, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

You don't need to talk to us. You can find out what happened by asking Gaile the following question:

suggestions

Everytime someone makes a suggestion you guys put up It should be moved to the poster's userspace Does this mean it is allowed to make suggestion on our userpages? Linsey said she didnt know it. So my question is does someone around here know the answer on this question? Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 23:40, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

If you make a suggestion on your userspace, no one is going to delete it. No one from Arena Net is going to read it or comment on it either. Erasculio 23:44, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Because of legal issues they cannot use suggestions from the wiki. That is why they should be put on your userspace.Talk page Drogo Boffin 23:46, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok then I am gone make a suggestion on my userpage and when we can post suggestions again I will post it at the place were they read it? Problem solved?^^ Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 23:47, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
No it means they don't wanna look at it, ever. Moving anything to the User's page is just the politest way of deleting it. So there's no point right now, This isn't frakin' MySpace (even if some Users manage to get more traffic on theirs than most community pages) --ilr 18:01, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
That is NOT what it means Ilr, We are in the process of setting up a new Feedback namespace, that will have different submission licensing terms. All suggestions can be posted there once it's completed, to be read by and commented on by developers. For now, all suggestions should remain in the original poster's userspace, and they have the option to resubmit them with the new licensing after the new namespace is available. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 18:54, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
...Never said the Devs are that uncaring (well, Izzy might be, LoL)...We all know there is now legal issues cropping up b/c one of the founders and creators of a gaming dynasty got involved and managed a Novel's worth of blather on fixing this. I'm just referring to the Wiki community itself giving the original (and Equal/Fair voicing) Suggestions section the axe way before we even knew what was going on. So yeh, the Wiki elite conspired before it was a question of I.P. and may have jumped the gun in the process --ilr 05:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I believe it was the wiki community's desire to clean up and make the suggestion area more manageable and usable here that lead to the legal team even looking into this in the first place. Unfortunately for everyone, they did not come back with any proposal for change until 4 days before the community had decided, through discussion and concensus that lasted for MONTHS and was open to the entire community, to make our changes. Since the changes in licensing have no bearing on previously submitted suggestions (especially those that were collectively edited) it matters little what was done with them. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 07:58, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Ms Murdock, Thank you, thank you, thank you, for taking time from your busy schedule to explain to me the situations. I am very confident now, because you are handling it. I also like to comment on the Big April Update. Although I will not be making any purchase, that does not mean I am not impressed with the updates, it is as always, very well done, outstanding infact. Its the system of how it is being made available to us I have problem with. Thank you once again, and tell Joe he's done a marvelous job too, being the live team and all! I think, I'll drop him a line or two as well. PS: I probably should explain why I sometime ignore/dismiss what other users are saying in reply to what I posted here or on other forums. Reason: because most of the time, if you know forums crawler, they just want to type/say something and very frankly their opinions don't matter to me at all, I usually just look for reply from person whose words matter. Flashcrowd FTW

I didn't see anyone mention this, but I noticed that both the Traveller and the Zaishen Mission/Bounty cause huge throngs of adventurers to descend upon otherwise quiet locations. It's very . . . different to get the "I can't see myself or anyone or my skill icons load faster please!" effect when entering, say, Yak's Bend. Seven districts in Yak's Bend. Seven districts in the various BFNW places in the Ring of Fire. Whether this was intended or not, it's kinda cool.

I just hope you've got a destination planned for one of these things that will cause people to flock to Maguuma Steade :D. Heck, so few people go there, ever, that you could practially put the Traveller in the outpost instead of the explorable :). --Star Weaver 20:14, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

That was exactly my intention. Channeling players to the same places, giving them a common goal. I had originally included Mallyx in the Bounty list, but decided it had too high of a barrier to entry and took it out. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 23:15, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
That's weird, if the four bosses have one quest each why not Mallyx? I bet there is people waiting for the Mallyx one after making the other four. Better warn them about this. Is there any other elite boss left out? Like Duncan? MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 23:32, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
This isn't the first time I have said that there isn't a quest for Mallyx. The four bosses aren't as hard as Mallyx and don't require you to play the entire area before you can take them on. I think you spoke too soon. Today's bounty is Stygian Lords. Try getting a group that can pull it off without extraneous amounts of time invested (and possibly resources) without one of the desired classes/max titles. Not even a quest bringing everyone here is enough to make it possible for non cookie cutter grind happy undesired classes to complete the area. This points out how badly in need elite areas of the game are of a rebalance to allow niche classes (even the ranger is niche here atm) a chance to join a pug. The biggest flaw to elite areas is they are so hard they eliminate so many of the options from player builds shuffling everyone into using boring gimmick team builds which rely on 3 different classes only. 122.105.107.234 11:05, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Me+friend +6 heroes (balanced team btw, we had almost 1 of each class) did veil nps (then gloom+foundry, needed a doa statue too). So I'm sry, but the problem isn't that the area forces u to play a specific class. Its that it requires a level of efficiency most ppl are not used to. But u can always wait for the next day's zaishen bounty. 187.37.63.204 14:39, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Well said. I've completed DoA with 3 playes + 6 heroes several times in HM. It is meant to be hard (even though might be a little overboard with Enraged), and unprepared players aren't supposed to survive easily. This is an area unlocked after finishing a campagn, which was supposed to at least somewhat prepare most people, but apparently didn't. And as IP pointed out, just wait for the next day if you can't do it. It is not mandatory that everyone is able to complete every daily zquest. Many players succeed in RA, TA, JQ, but completely fail in HA and GvG, even if they try hard. So why should PvE quests be different? User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I play an MMO to play with people. Not heroes. Most people don't have friends who have been playing for 4 years and know everything about the game and will be able to pull somethign like this off. It's not that I can't beat this area of the game, I have done so many times. I can't find a competent group with a ranger (and probably other classes as well). The challenge of making this area of the game playable with my ranger shouldn't fall on me, it should fall on the developer. It is clear this area of the game is not friendly to puging with certain classes. The area isn't "hard", finding a group without a monk/tank/mesmer/elementalist is what is hard. Nothing you say changes this fact. 58.110.136.155 10:43, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the comments Silverleaf. We do not expect every player to be able to play in DoA successfully regardless of their skill or preparedness. That was not the goal of the area. If you have trouble finding a PUG, then prepare for the area by putting a team together who is willing to play with you. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 23:33, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

NWN

[1] is the forum for our NWN module. Shard and I made you a henchman. You're sorceress with a whip. Pretty pro.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 08:07, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Unlike axes, bows, & swords; Whips require a certain level of ongoing focus. Probably not the best arsenal for people easily distracted by shiny objects. I can tell you that much from personal experience (we used to have a billy goat that we had to keep in line with a horse whip, let's just say it cracked on me more than it cracked on him). --ilr 22:44, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I should probably re-word this...I'm the DM and I made a henchman version of Linsey for the module, so technically, I can have her wield any weapon I like without there having to be any real "focus". Our Bard henchman wields a Violin. It looks awesome.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 01:31, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Isn't using her as a model some sort of copyright violation? 145.94.74.23 20:30, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
The question of "Character" Likeness can only be fully legally covered with REGISTERED TRADEMARKS, and characters based on real PEOPLE can also be covered by Parody Law (Mel Gibson or any other Celebrities on Southpark being perfect examples of that). And in the case of this game, they'd have to replicate every detail of her GW character by copying artistically the EXACT style, colors, details, and "bloom" effect of each armor/hair/face component that makes up the character/gear models in this game for it to qualify as "Likeness". TL;DR version: NOT LIKELY! --ilr 20:51, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. 145.94.74.23 21:14, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Also, GW is not NWN, so it looks nothing like a GW character. All we used is her name. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 22:32, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Real people you cannot copyright, only created characters and creatures or stories, film, images and ideas which "belong" to a person or party can be copyrighted...see the legal case where a fan who was stalking Sarah McLaughlin attempted to sue her for writing the song "Possession". See also the various films, novels and dramitizations about Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Worhol and many others...that use their likeness. A great example is the film "I'm not There" featuring several actors and 1 actress playing various incarnations of Bob Dylan. Anyway...I also changed the spelling of her name too.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 01:14, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Technically you can buy your own name out like how Barry Bonds did. of course that was also kinda dumb since he isnt in any baseball video games cuz he's greedy and asks for too much $$. --adrin User adrin ecto sig.png 01:16, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

You know what grinds my gears?

Those Disco Ball fireworks. I paid for a CE to get the Dervish Disco ball, cos I thought sweet, it's only for CE. Now I see these ever random profession letting off firework and "Oh look, there's a ranger with a disco ball! >:|". Since you're now in the habit of reusing stuff, and now reusing CE stuff does that mean we're going to see Divine Aura come into use for non CE players, or the Faction's CE effect too? Yes! Cos that would be fair. 000.00.00.00 21:15, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I think you're over-reacting. Yes, they used the same disco-ball model.. but ask yourself this, do they have the luxury of calling up said disco ball whenever and whereever they wish? No. They don't. They need an item to be able to do it. Now, that being said, this isn't a crucial change, it's a useless little gripe I'm sure you could live without. Drago 23:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

not to jump on any bandwagon here, as i really don't mind it, as they still don't get the bonus dance. However the constant fireworks in every major outpost is getting VERY annoying. I'm one of those people who loves running about and staring at the scenery, but in towns now I keep getting daft fireworks in the way and bees everywhere. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 03:34, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

As a suggestion (oh crap another one) could the silly fireworks be added into some category where they could be turned off? Such as post-process for "drunkard" effects? That would easily remedy the issue with them being spammed almost constantly in main towns.(75.0.186.25 10:39, 11 June 2009 (UTC))

(Reset indent) /agree. Let me promote my new idea some more, even though it's not very original: How about making new 'RP' disticts in outposts in which tonics, minipets, disco balls, (trade spamming?) and the like are disabled? I'd sure use them a lot, and I know a lot of other people who would, too. I mean, every time I play a baby char in Elona and a quest takes me to Kamadan, I grind my teeth because I just can't stand all the dragons, yetis, and spamming disrupt my nice, relaxed gaming experience. Just standing in Kamadan hurts my brain. --Adul 14:10, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

It hurts my gaming experience too, because it's killing the atmosphere. -- Boro 10px‎ 18:21, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
At least they don't work in PvP districts. I appreciate that. User Raine R.gif Raine - talk 18:36, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't think we'll ever make the Divine Aura available for free or for stand alone purchase. We've talked about it on a few occasions and the idea is always shot done for one reason or another. I suppose that could change, but I don't see it happening any time soon. IMO the Nightfall CE is a lot more about the dance than the disco ball. I'm not sure if it will be possible to disable fireworks or tonics or have an RP district, but I will make a post-it note to look into it further. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:15, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

dragon arena tourney

this topic has been mentioned before, but since a dodgeball weekend has only recently passed, i thought i'd ask again if a dodgeball AT was being actively considered. i believe u have some inkling of this, but there's a semi-organized and very enthusiastic group of gamer title chasers that would love to see this implemented. --VVong|BA 19:02, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

no update regarding this for the upcoming dragon festival? --VVong|BA 18:50, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Sorry we didn't get a chance to implement this. We've been pretty distracted with... well everything and Dragon Festival really kind of snuck up on us. I put up a nice big post-it note that says "Dodgeball AT!!!!" (yes it really has 4 exclamation marks) and I'll see what I can do. - User Linsey Murdock sig.jpgLinsey talk 19:22, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Linsey's page is exploding with user discussion to the point where there is going to be no option but to lock it down. I would like to ask that if you wish to discuss something that has been posted here with the poster, PLEASE take that discussion to their talk page. Use the {{moved|to|[[New location]]}} tag to indicate which page the discussion has been moved to. THANKS!!! --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 19:41, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. I'd suggest having a question/comment box filled in by the initial poster for an item, followed by an answer box for Linsey's response, and finally a link to another page for discussion among those that wish to further comment on it. Buuuut, I'm no real dabbler in web page design, not to mention lazy, so I'll leave that up to you webbers to come up with. :P--209.194.208.116 19:17, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
