Images from GuildWiki[edit]

If you take images from GuildWiki over here, please make sure the uploader have realeased their contributions under GFDL also. Else it might be a copyright violation, since we are under different licenses. Thank you! - anja talk 11:58, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I just did a load and didn't check for that >.< Lyra Valo 11:59, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Just went back a checked, I think all the images I copied were released under the GDFL. Lyra Valo 12:05, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Great! ^^ - anja talk 12:12, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
I marked two of the images you uploaded for the Underworld monsters for deletion as their original uploaders hadn't released them to GFDL. Please be carefull with them in the future. :) Thanks. -- Gem (gem / talk) 19:30, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

You also need to give attribution to the users who uploaded each image originally. Adding "Screenshot taken by (whomever)" with a link to their GuildWiki userpage (or their userpage here if they have one) to the description would be great. It'd also be nice to add the {{screenshot}} template.

Unrelatedly, and sorry if it seems like I'm picking on you, your signature image should be no larger than 19x19. It's currently 24x20. - Tanetris 20:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, i'll get the screenshot templates and attributions done now and take down my sig until I have to time to do something with it. Kinda a template noob so I didn't know there was a specific one for screenshots.Lyra Valo 19:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Changed all that stuff and changed my sig twice (accidently broke a naming rule first time *embarressed*). Ah well, you learn somethng new everyday, and I hadn't learnt anything yet today ;). Don't think the image looks as good but at least it's allowed.Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 20:05, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
If it makes you feel better I think that the sig looks much better with the smaller icon. :) -- Gem (gem / talk) 20:23, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
<3 Gem, I mean, thanks Gem!. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 20:33, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Wings[edit]

Any paragon chant gives wings iirc. Karlos has "left" the wiki, so I don't think you'll get a reply from him any time soon. - BeX iawtc 10:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Every Paragon chant gives some form of wings but of the few I have tried none of them also caused levitation. Ty for the heads up about him leaving. Hopefully someone else will know the skill. I'll wait a couple of days before trying more experiments I think. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 10:51, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I think that depends on the default profession animation, and by the looks of it, he stood his character on the top of a hill, positioned the camera slightly below and in front and then activated. - BeX iawtc 14:48, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Ah, good point it might be the female ele casting animation that causes the levitation, i'll try cast some Chants on a female ele and see if they cause levitation there. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 15:22, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I got an e-mail about your question on my talk page. As Bex said, I don't come around here too often so you might be better served asking me on GuildWiki.

Anyways, to answer your question, there are two parts to the screenshot, the wings and the levitation. To get the wings, I needed a Paragon skill that was a chant that affected multiple people (Anthem, Chorus, Song or Aria but not a Refrain) and that cost energy (not adrenaline) and that was 2 seconds cast (not 1) so I had good time to take my screenshot. At the time, that was only one skill: Aria of Zeal. Now Defensive Anthem works as well, but it's an elite.

As for levitation, as Bex says above, it's the profession. Female eles levitate when casting spells, especially ones longer than 1 second. Male Paragons do something similar. Warriors will stand on the ground with legs spread apart and raise one arm which I think would still look cool. Good luck. --Karlos 20:50, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok, dunno why I didn't realise it was the profession animation earlier, I even looked at this page to see the paragon animations. I even read the ele ones as well, answer was staring me in the face and I missed it ^^. Anyway thanks for the info, i'm gonna try get a shot of my warrior doing a chant with the aura you get in Augury Rock. I reckon it'll look pretty cool. Also I didn;t know you still hung around at GuildWiki. Thought you had left after the Wikia move. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg

GWW:SIGN[edit]

Sorry to break this to you (due to your awsome signature and all), but your signature is in violation of GWW:SIGN.--§ Eloc § 22:27, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Again? Which part of it? Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg
Yea, I'm wondering the same actually. :) - anja talk 10:01, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I think he means these:
# You are allowed to use one color for each of your links.
# Do not use color and bold formatting on the same text. - BeX iawtc 10:17, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Those are rules? Gah, time to start thinking. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 11:52, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok, fixed the link thing but if I remove the bold it looks terrible. I'll try think of something. But not right now.Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 12:07, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

(edit conflict) You can always bring up on the talk page if you want to try and change the wording on the policy. I believe the first one was created to stop people from having rainbow colouring for every letter in their name, and the second one is ignored completely by most people anyway, but I think is kind of pointless now when you consider why it was added in the beginning and what the policy has changed into. - BeX iawtc 12:08, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
I'll do that then. Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 12:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Lol. Your new idea is a pretty innovative way to get around the policy, but note that now your sig is way too long. It takes over two lines even on my 1400x resolution. I preferred the former to the new one since it looks the same, but the old one was a lot more user frinedly when editing talk pages, so I suggest you chnge back to it for now and start discussion on the policy change. -- Gem (gem / talk) 12:44, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Sure.Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 12:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

To answer the first question, the link brings you right to where I mean that you were violating it.--§ Eloc § 21:00, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

(reset indent) Yeah, but you could have been more helpful and specified exactly which...Lyra Valo User Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 09:34, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Fine, but I'm sure you could have figured out that out of 10 points, you violated 2 of them.--§ Eloc § 10:28, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Character templates[edit]

I like your character templates. They look clean ans simple. Did you make them? Can I use them in the future? - nian User Nian Sig.png 23:30, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

No, I didn't make them but I agree they're nice, you can find the original template here. Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 09:31, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, that looks nice indeed. - nian User Nian Sig.png 11:48, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

images that don't link to pages[edit]

You can tag the images that have no page links as an orphaned image via gwwt and it will get deleted within 3 days, i try to check if the image can be used before I tag them though, thought this might help :) Fall 14:28, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, i've been wondering about orphaned images and so far i've just been not tagging them. If there could be some use in them should I try to find a use or just leave them untagged? Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 14:29, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
I try to find a use, but if you can't just tag it via orphaned or you can put a tag like screenshot on it and it will show up in Special:Unusedimages Fall 14:34, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Tagged non-official images[edit]

Tagging my images for deletion? No problem and thanks but no thanks. Just if you delete all my images than this "Official Wiki" has no use for me. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Silverleaf .

Erm...who are you? Please sign your comments when you talk on my or any other talk page please. With regard to your images, since I don't know which they were I can't specifically say why I tagged them for deletion. They either broke the user image naming policy, in which case you could just reupload them with the prefix "User "your username here". If they did not break this policy then they were probably orphaned. If this was the case then I checked your user page(s) to see if the pictures may be needed somewhere and if I deemed that you had other images that were used in place of the one that was orphaned I tagged the orphaned image for deletion because if they are unneeded then they just take up server space for no reason. Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 15:00, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Some of your images are just incorrectly named according to the user image naming policy (GWW:USER). It happens to most of us when we first come to this wiki(me too). Nobody can be expected to know all the policies right away so no biggie, you would just need to change the filenames to "User_Silverleaf_image.jpg". Some of your images are now correctly named anyway. Have fun~ - nian User Nian Sig.png 18:08, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Seems more user friendly to reupload the images with the correct name yourself instead of tagging for deletion. This is supposed to be a collaborative enterprise.
(I totally appreciate your wikignoming by the way, I just have a gripe with deletion tagging in general and you happened to be on recent changes)
Tanaric 10:29, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree, however if each user does a few images of their own rather than me doing a couple of hundred it is much easier to be honest.Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 10:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
I understand where you're coming from. Consider posting a note on a user's talk page explaining why you marked their images for deletion and what they can do to fix the problem. Since the issue will probably be the same for everyone, you can just standardize it and copy/paste it each time. —Tanaric 10:35, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Don't we violate the don't edit other users pages if we re-upload and relink images? Fall 10:36, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Last I checked, "don't edit other users pages" isn't policy, it's suggestion. While that may have changed, I hardly think anyone will argue with such a non-controversial, policy-supporting edit like that. —Tanaric 11:26, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
I do try to add a note to every users talk page that I add delete tags to, however admittedly some do get missed. Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 12:12, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
It wouldn't be too smart of a move to just rename the files for someone who doesn't know the image naming policy. They need to learn it for themselves. A note on their talk page might be more helpful I agree so they can actually tag their own images for deletion an reupload themselves. Although the reason is already stated in the deletion template if one cares to actually read it. Being defensive is just a human reaction anyway but people get over it. - nian User Nian Sig.png 13:12, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Notify templates[edit]

It might be an idea to add a "subst:" when you add notify templates (like this: {{subst:User:Lyra Valo/UINotification}}) It helps to keep the server load down, since it doesn't need to make an extra jump to fetch the template off your page, it will just be stored as normal text instead :) (This is kinda the same reason we do not allow signatures on subpages, if you read that argument) No biggie, just a hint, keep up the good work :) - anja talk 14:24, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I had heard of substs but had no idea what they were for and how to use them. Thanks for the heads up and i'll try to remember. Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo LVsig.jpg 14:26, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Characters[edit]

Hey!

I just recently took a look at your characters, and notcied one of them was the name Togira Ikonaka. I have a Monk whose name is Togira Ikonoka. I was sad when I couldn't have the real spelling of Togira Ikanoka, but oh well...we have (almost) the same name! ^_^

203.94.61.143 05:31, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Yup I was pretty annoyed when I couldn't get the correct spelled too, I wanted that name so bad, but since i've used the mispleeing for so long everytime I read the book I think it's mispelled in there ^^. Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo Sig.jpg 17:15, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

User:Lyra Valo/GINotification[edit]

Since it's possible to move images now, wouldn't that be a better idea that deleting and reuploading, especially in case an image has history which would be discarded? ("Hi, your image is improperly named according to this policy, so I have put move tag on it, if you could please move it to...") It's true that sysop would have to delete the redirect anyway, but learning to move images is just as good practice for new users as uploading properly teh first time imo. Also saves angry complaints in case some sysop decides to delete it after three days and the person hasn't read said message yet. Vili User talk:Vili 18:04, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

I haven't been on the wiki since this moving thing happened, are you proposing I move the image or what? I'm kinda confused, enlighten me please?Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo Sig.jpg 21:39, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh, sorry. If you go to an image, like your sig for example, there is now a "move" tab, just like for articles. So you can move an image to a more proper name without having to reupload it, and that also preserves any history or talkpage that was attached, leaves a redirect, etc. Let's say someone uploaded an improperly named image... in the past, those would be slapped with delete tag and the uploader was notified about having to reupload to fix this (this is what your template does). I was just thinking that since it's not necessary to do that anymore, maybe you could change template accordingly? As to moving yourself, "If you give a man a fish" etc. seems to be the general consensus on GWW - better to teach these user instead of do it for them, so they get it right the next time too.
This is just random thought I had while patrolling RC, sorry if I'm coming off as an ass for bringing up trivial issue. :\ Vili User talk:Vili 05:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
No need to apologise, it's fine. I was ignorant of a new feature so I came back and started doing what i'd done previously with the same templates. If you hadn't picked me up on it it would've been worse for everyone in the long run.Lyra ValoUser Lyra Valo Sig.jpg 20:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
