Cologne gamecom 2010 music song[edit]

I made a music video of your song today hope you like it. I also like dragons myself see my signature. ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFuBKJNSigM Death Slighertalk: Death Sligher 23:34, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

I saw that. It's awesome. I passed the video around the office, and I linked it on the Last.FM page that's hosting the free download of the MP3. Thanks. —Matthew Moore 23:56, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

April Fourth[edit]

Nice updates. ;-) That had me to laugh. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 00:56, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

We were sad when we realized we left poor Charlie out of the original batch of April Fools' notes. We seethed at the missed opportunities: tiger blood, warlocks, and winning, OH MY! Then we remembered there are always the end-of-joke clean-up-build notes. Glad you enjoyed them. ~ Matthew Moore 00:58, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

9 June updates[edit]

Thank you, as always, for taking time to post notes on various software updates.

If you are allowed, could you also shed some light as to why there was less of a heads-up than typical for a maintenance build? I'm used to seeing a few days notice, a login announcement, and several in-game reminders warning people to sign out. In this case, those of us who don't follow Twitter (or visit the official site daily) were taken by surprise.

I understand that staff might not have authority to comment (and you might not be able to spare the time). Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:53, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Your beard[edit]

Having watched this, I want to say your beard? Awesome. I dare say it's worthy of a norn. Konig/talk 04:39, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Ha! Thanks. Usually people comment on my show beard, otherwise known as the fu manchops (which are actually a norn character-creation option) but I'm happy to grow something more full and epic in the spaces between events. ~ Matthew Moore 22:58, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Countess of Hakewood[edit]

Hey. Sorry to bother you on your main page (feel free to delete this if it shouldn't be here), but since you were around to post on the Halloween 2013 talk page earlier, I thought you might be someone to go to. I already wrote on the talk page about this, but since there isn't much time left in the festival before everything is removed, I thought this might be time-sensitive enough to warrant bringing to your immediate attention.
The Countess of Hakewood is gone. All of the other Halloween NPCs are around, and I still have her quests in my quest log, but I cannot get the rewards for them, because, well, she's not there. Will you guys be able to return her in time for the end of the festival? Maybe make her stay an extra day? (This was my last chance to be on tonight, so if she only appears at, say, 11 PST, I won't be able to get my quest rewards, though I realize my personal situation is not enough to warrant a general extension, unless of course you are feeling particularly generous).
Again, sorry to bug you on your talk page, but I wanted to make sure somebody saw this before the end of Halloween, and I'm not familiar enough with who is still around to know if there's somebody else I should have asked instead. Thanks for your time. Ailina (talk) 02:08, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

It's true, my feedback page isn't the best place to put bug reports like this. A better destination is the GW bug forums. That said, I happened by the comments over on the Halloween feedback page, and we looked into it once we were back in the office. I wrote a little more here: Talk:Halloween_2013#Countess_of_Hakewood. ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 23:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Question about special event dates[edit]

Hello, I'm trying to automate certain bits of the wiki so that it displays details of the active special events such that it doesn't require someone on the wiki to manually edit it in each time it occurs.

Unfortunately I don't know the exact dates of each event, and while you've indicated that at least Halloween has a fixed date, I can only make rough and inaccurate guesses for the rest of them.

I appreciate that you probably don't check the wiki when you've not been making changes to move towards automating the game, but it'd be great if you could take a look at the dates listed on User talk:Chieftain Alex/Templates/Special events#discussion. -Chieftain Alex 22:54, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Not ignoring you, just investigating what information I'm allowed to release. ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 01:33, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
I should have expressed the question a bit more elegantly. If you can't say, thats fine. If you can't tell us what the dates are, but that the dates are going to be the same as the next rotation - thats also ok. If its a formula, but you can't tell us which, thats fine. Anything, even nothing, is obviously ok ^^ - there is no compulsion to answer at all really. -Chieftain Alex 14:17, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm always happy to help out when I can. I just dropped the holiday schedule into that discussion you were having. I hope it helps as you all start your automation too. :D ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 20:59, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
After Feedback:Game updates/20131210, are the dates for Halloween and Wintersday still the same as what you posted at Template talk:Special events lookup? --Silver Edge 18:42, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes. Actually, we changed the dates to the schedule I posted. Prior to the update, Halloween still had its starting/ending issues, and Wintersday was set to start a week too early. Should be on track now. :D ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 18:45, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
I must say I'm really disappointed of ANet for permanently removing Snowball tournaments. --numma_cway (talk) 19:16, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
Especially since that probably wouldn't even be too much work, and fits perfectly into the 'automate all aspects of the game' -philosophy. SuperRobertWa (talk) 21:20, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
I understand your disappointment, snowball being one of my favorite parts of the holiday as well. I don't know if an explanation will provide any solace, but I can say that "removed" is not necessarily accurate when it comes to this change. Like an unfortunate number of parts in the "automated" tournament system--see our previous announcements about map rotation and trim awards--snowball AT has been manually turned on and off every Wintersday since its inception, each time requiring us to change files and run builds before and after Wintersday.
This is clearly unsustainable in the days of automation, and recoding the entire AT system to handle a single, once-a-year game type is not something we have resource allocation for. So I'll see you all in the arena with the other PUGs; in at least one form, snowball lives on! ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 08:05, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Flux rotation[edit]

Flux Month
Odran's Razor January
Amateur Hour February
Hidden Talent March
There Can Be Only One April
Meek Shall Inherit May
Xinrae's Revenge June
Chain Combo July
Jack of All Trades August
Like a Boss September
Minion Apocalypse October
All In November
Parting Gift December

Can you say whether or not what I posted above is the current Flux rotation? It will help in accurately automating Template:Flux (which appears on Main Page) and Flux. Also, based on these GuildWars tweets [1] [2], is Xinrae's Revenge still the June Flux? Thanks. --Silver Edge 09:20, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

I'll look into it on Monday. ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 20:47, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
What you have is almost the intended rotation. June should be Jack of All Trades and August should be Xinrae's Revenge. We swapped them because of the aforementioned overlap. :D ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 20:09, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. I've updated the pages with that information. --Silver Edge 08:35, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Does the Flux change on the first of every month at 07:00 UTC? Because Flux had previously noted and Template:Flux was previously set based on the thought that the Flux changed on the first of every month at 12:00 AM Pacific Standard/Daylight Time, which seems to be erroneous. --Silver Edge 07:34, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Could be that the Flux is set on Day Light Savings Time still? Rodan (talk) 09:02, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Foreman the Crier dialogue[edit]

Hello, I still need to thank you for all the help you've given us with getting the automation done on the wiki! /done.

I'm quite positive that you'll be on christmas holiday leave by now, but perhaps when you get back you might fix the following in time for next year:

It seems that Foreman the Crier is bugged ingame and he is displaying the dialogue for both Wintersday and Wintersday in July (uh oh) - exactly as we have it displayed at Foreman the Crier. Credits to Silver Edge for spotting this bug ingame (report) -Chieftain Alex 13:41, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Foreman just really loves Wintersday! (Thanks!) ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 23:55, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Wintersday Card[edit]

I scanned and uploaded the artwork of the 2011 and 2012 Wintersday Cards, but I didn't receive one for 2013. So I'm wondering, is there a 2013 Wintersday Card? --Silver Edge 22:58, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

There was one, with art by Jamie Ro. I don't have a copy, but I know people were talking about it on the GW2 forums... Here: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/archive/wintersday2013/Merry-Christmas-Card
Looks like someone on tumblr made a scan too: http://magecakes.tumblr.com/post/70523624162/got-an-arenanet-wintersday-2013-card-in-the-mail
~ Matthew Moore (talk) 23:04, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I've added it to Wintersday Card. --Silver Edge 09:29, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Early anniversary celebration[edit]

Hey there, I thought that I might mention here that the anniversary celebration drops seems to have started - which doesn't quite tie in with the dates here. I guess it could be deliberate, but it seems unusual to say the least.

(Originally somebody posted a comment saying "server shut off in june" (it got reverted for probably being false).. and I think the panic spread + led to some investigation into which drops are there/which npcs are not at Talk:Guild_Wars_Prophecies#The_END.3F.) -Chieftain Alex 08:13, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

That is indeed super early. I've passed the report on to John Stumme and Joe Kimmes. Sadly, I was let go from ArenaNet this week, so I can't investigate it personally. Heck, maybe they turned them on for me. :D ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 00:12, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Looks like the internal schedule had a typo of 2 instead of 22. I'm checking with people to find out if I should turn it off until the intended date, but for now feel free to enjoy the early birthday celebration! - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 01:13, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
To be fair, at first I suspected it to be an April Fools' feature that lasted a bit too long, myself. Also, I'm sorry to hear that, Matthew! :( - Infinite - talk 13:58, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Update: the plan is to fix the anniversary start date for next year and let players get the benefits of the mistake this year. Enjoy the extended birthday celebration! - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 18:01, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Well, its been really nice having you here Matthew, I guess they let you go because you were outclassing everybody else in terms of being visibly helpful ;) the wiki has certainly been improved because of your presence.
Good luck with wherever you go next. -Chieftain Alex 20:56, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I hope that the next project I land on has a wiki community even half as amazing as the one for Guild Wars, but the likelihood of that is pretty damn small. You all made my job a lot easier, no lie. Now, everybody be nice to Joe in my absence. ~ Matthew Moore (talk) 05:58, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
It's sad to see you go, Matthew. Keep rocking and rolling! --Silver Edge 06:55, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Some of the Anniversary Celebration activities aren't currently active (i.e. Shing Jea Boardwalk, Dragon Arena, and Rollerbeetle Racing). Will those become active on 22 April? --Silver Edge 06:55, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, I missed this report previously; I will investigate this immediately and let you know what I find out. It's possible that it was intended that those areas be removed from the Birthday event, but that seems odd if they were active last year. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 17:02, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Update: this has been confirmed as unintended, so I'll be turning the bonus events on with a patch, hopefully tomorrow. - Joe Kimmes Talk Page‎ 18:30, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Thank you guys so much! :D I take back anything I've ever said about last Halloween starting late, previous events glitching out early, or April Fool's still only being one day instead of three or a week like everything else. This is the best unbirthday ever! 67.246.60.56 07:23, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
