service=merchant[edit]

Hi, please do not add a profession to merchant NPCs, they don't have a profession, but offer the service "merchant". - MSorglos (talk|contrib) 19:10, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll stop including the "profession" field if its a problem, but until I see a "service" field in the formatting guide, I'm leaving that out, too. Rangerjherek 19:39, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
It's in the formatting guide under the subheading "NPC infobox template". - BeX iawtc 01:54, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Oops. Now I see it. My bad. I better go back and fix some stuff now. o_O Rangerjherek 02:22, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
No worries, I went through a corrected anything I could find, but I might have missed a couple if you want to double check. :) - BeX iawtc 02:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Article name in bold[edit]

Hi, thanks for contributing and helping to clean up. Just a little FYI, (referring to Ascalon City (outpost)) I noticed you removed the bold on the name of the article. It's just our convention that we either self-link or bold the first occurence of the name of the article. So in the case of the above article, we just bold the first occurrence of "Ascalon City". Thanks again. -- ab.er.rant sig 02:43, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I'll leave the bold in place if I see it, and add it if I don't. It seemed kind of hit-or-miss the way I encountered it, so I was just removing it for the sake of uniformity. And I'd be happy to put in my 2 cents worth on formatting. Rangerjherek 00:56, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Flavor text[edit]

Hello. I would like to say that the bits of "flavor text" you are writting at the beginning of some articles are really, really good - I'm specially fond of the one about the Mursaat tokens. It's refreshing to see an item's description that goes beyond technical aspects and focuses on, well, the item itself. Very good job! Erasculio 03:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, that's what I'm going for. The article body covers all the technical aspects anyway, so there's no need to repeat it all at the top. Since the Mursaat Token doesn't have any known purpose in the game, I figured I could use that in the item's description. That is, I asked myself why there are no known uses for a Mursaat Token?
It gets a little tricky sometimes though. With the Azure Remains, for example, I was tempted to say something like "Azure Remains are so delicate, they must be handled with the utmost care, or they will crumble to dust at the slightest touch." But anyone reading the article might think that there is some actual danger of losing your Azure Remains if not careful, when in fact the only way to turn Azure Remains to dust is to salvage it.
Anyway, thanks for the compliment. It's nice to see my effort is appreciated by someone.--Rangerjherek 04:06, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
You'll probably hate me for this. I don't mean it as an affront to you or your contributions, and I think the bits and pieces you added are very interesting, and your writing style is quite good, but I'm doubtful about whether speculation should be included in a reference document. I would love to get your opinions on that page as well. Personally, I would love to see something like that on every page, but as long as it is canon! And I definitely agree that 99% of the articles here have very dull section 0 text, if any at all, and that something should be done about it. - BeX iawtc 09:39, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree that they are very well written, and pretty interesting to read :) Just wanna echo Bex's concerns about being careful with too much speculation or too much flavor text. It's really nice that you're spicing up the boring stuff, just keep in mind that we're primarily documenting the game as is, so just be careful about over-doing it (and I'm not saying you should stop, keep it up!). -- ab.er.rant sig 11:44, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I guess I'll make this my pet project then :) I do try to avoid speculation in the section 0 text (The Mursaat Token being a notable exception, due in part to the lack of anything else to put in the article), and in particular I try to avoid saying anything that could actually be misleading to players (like with the Azure Remains, as I pointed out above). I try not to go overboard, since this is a reference document, and the flavor text is hardly the point. That said, this is a reference document about a game, so I don't mind taking a few liberties.--Rangerjherek 14:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
