Guild Wars 2 Suggestions

Greetings!

I'm writing a canned message of sorts to a select handful of Guild Wars Wiki users whom I believe share a similar passion of mine: exchanging new concepts and ideas for Guild Wars. I chose you by simply jotting down names that showed up frequently in the discussion of the GW2 Suggestion Pages here on the Wiki. If you have no interest in the matter or feel that I'm imposing upon you, I will thank you for your time; please disregard/delete this message. If, however, you do have a creative streak and enjoy sharing your ideas with the hopes that they'll some day be adopted into the game you love, then read on!

I like to think that, on occasion, I have have a good idea. And when it's concerning something I'm very passionate about (like Guild Wars) I tend to go all-out. When Guild Wars 2 was announced back in March of 2007, I was very excited! Here was an opportunity to get some of the features I've really been wanting to see in an MMO integrated into one of my favorite games! The question was, how could I get the developers to actually pay attention to any of my ideas? In my naivety, I began posting them on “Guild Wars 2 Suggestion” topics on several forums of popular GW community sites, only to realize that, as more and more suggestions were posted, my posts became buried. I never got the feedback I desired (were any of my ideas even good?), and I could only assume that ArenaNet would have a slim chance of coming across them in all the drivel and flaming that accompanies forum topics.

Disheartened, but not defeated, I decided that I (and many other creative minds) needed a place where they could post their ideas without them being buried... where other players could easily vote on them, and post suggestions of their own! Thus, I created a site called NikiWiki. Unfortunately, either due to my requests for fansitedom going through the wrong channels, or a lack of understanding on ArenaNet's part, NikiWiki never really took off. At around that time ArenaNet set up a “receptacle” for posting Guild Wars 2 suggestions here on the Guild Wars Wiki. But I saw this as only a tiny step up from posting in forums. How does anyone know what new ideas really matter to the players?

So I've decided to take another stab.

I'll spare you any further ramblings, and introduce you to the Guild Wars Feedback Community. All I'm asking is that you take a few moments of your time and visit the site. Create an account if you wish – everything is free, there is no spam, etc... there aren't even any advertisements on the site. I do all this simply out of my love of the game, and a selfish desire to see Guild Wars 2 become the ultimate MMO!

The GWFC is not perfect by far, please understand that it's currently in beta. I hope that with some input from like minded individuals, this site can become a valuable resource for the developers at ArenaNet and folks like you and I who need a creative outlet. Feel free to criticize (constructively or not), make suggestions of your own, or brow-beat me in any way you feel necessary. I've set up a topic for GWFC site feedback you can use, but feel free to write to me on my Wiki discussion page, or holler at me in-game. Thank you for all of your time, and I hope to see you on the Feedback Community site!

Sincerely,

--Brokunn 03:27, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Your Images of 17th January 2009

You gonna use them in the Future? --SilentStorm Talk to me 01:09, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh poo, Sorry Storm. I meant to get round to deleting them. I've just discovered how to make Png's and im practicing with my personal pages first before getting started on the other image pages which could benefit from them such as the armour pages and the icon project etc... I'll tag those old jpgs from the 17th or deletion. Once again sorry about that. :) -- Salome User salome sig2.png 15:01, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries. Its no problem, I just asked because I was on a Tagging Spree yesterday and well didnt want to tag yours for Orphaned because you did upload them all on the 17th and I wasnt sure if you uploaded them so you can use them for your Character Pages or whatever. If you dont need them Ill tag em now then. :) --SilentStorm Talk to me 15:20, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Cool

So your points are as well hidden behind layers of rhetoric as mine are. Good to know. Misery 13:51, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

LOL, i was trying to get Gaile to agree to one of my points first and then I was going to point out how hypocritical it was to ban people for things that anet themselves do and then go on about censorship being a bad thing, but I think she's got our discussion on ignore. :) -- Salome User salome sig2.png 14:42, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't get it

I don't see how you can consider a blatant violation of tournament rules, not to mention grossly unsportsman-like conduct of rawr and zero to not be in any way comparable to the ridiculous bans that are handed out by ArenaNet for swearing in all-chat, or any of the other RoC violations they ban for. ArenaNet's action (or lack there of) against them is grossly unfair to anyone that has tried to play this game by the rules without snubbing their noses at others. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:06, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

And I dont get how one can be so upset about the actions they took... Its a game after all. If you dont like it ignore it or dont play it if you cant stand it. I for one am fine with the Actions they took and I would've been fine with it if they wouldnt have done anything. --SilentStorm Talk to me 01:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't get how one can be so bothered to tell people who are upset about the ArenaNet "punishment" to not be so bothered about it. If you don't like people being upset, ignore it and don't read what they say if you can't stand it. *shrugs* Don't deny another person's opinions without anything more than a "it's a game, if you don't like it, ignore it." It's an argument that doesn't carry weight on multiple levels. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:39, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Okay guys, I understand that this is a subject that some people care about alot and something that alot of people don't as well. Both being valid viewpoints IMHO. I for one did care about the choice anet were going to make but in as far as personally I felt not attacking an alliance guild was valid. I understand that this is an unpopular view but in the alliance which I'm in we consider each other to be close friends and I wouldn't feel comfortable kicking such a guild out of the tournament, so i would have probably been guilty of such an infraction myself if the same events arose. I would never conspire with another guild to keep a certain guild down or out, as that is completely reprehensible, however I still wouldn't attack an allied guild, but for the positive reasons of friendship and solidarity rather than the negative reasons of trying to mess with other guilds.
I will agree that I was expecting a more moderate approach to be taken by anet between both groups of people debating this, however it does seem they have came down heavily in the pointless punishment side of things. Which I personally don't mind, however I think maybe to appease more players and maybe send a clearer message to the player base that their actions were inappropriate, they probably should have banned RawR and Zero for 2 months from the guild ladder. However I never agreed with the viewpoints that many peeps put forward in regards to account bans for any length of time.
In regards to the other bans that anet carries out:
  • Firstly I don't agree with many of the trivial things than anet bans for but then im more of a libertarian in regards to minor things like that (and also the fact that I once got banned for saying "I like nuts, they taste nutty!" which seems a tad on the insane side).
  • Secondly this is a different type of infraction. Swearing at people etc... is directly aimed and offensive to certain people, Rawr's actions although offensive too many did not actually effect most of the players who were claiming to be offended by it and I don't think third party liability should be brought into the game.
  • Finally what RawR and Zero did was an omission, in that they failed to attack one another and I am personally uncomfortable about punishment for omissions, whereas swearing at people or calling your char name something offensive is an act and thus prima facie more likely to be punishable.
Thus although personally I don't mind the decision that Anet took and like Silentstorm I wouldn't have minded if no action was taken, from an objective viewpoint I can understand why so many people are offended and I respect their right to be so, but personally I think I'm just looking at it in a different way. Please however do not mistake my viewpoint as reflecting apathy in this matter, as I care about these issues just as much as Wyn, I just see it in a very different way too her.
Also I would just like to apologise for taking so long to respond, I wanted to have the time to phrase this post correctly as I know my viewpoint on this will be hard for alot of peeps to meet me in the middle but I hope that it helps clarify a few things.
Anyhoo, Blessed be to the three of you. :) -- Salome User salome sig2.png 18:51, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Anet is probably going through a "2004-2005 Runescape" phase- a period of time in an MMO where favored people are not punished for rule violations, while everyone else is a second-class user. For everyone else, minor rule violations such as borderline inappropriate names or chat are blown completely out of proportion. The company gets paranoid about everything and starts filtering random stuff and suspending accounts left and right for minor violations. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.233.13.167 (talk).

I would just use Microsoft Word and look at the fonts there and try them here. It's what I did. --TalkAntioch 17:50, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
I did the same thing as Antioch. However you need to be a bit careful, the more obscure fonts won't be viewable on people who don't have those fonts installed on their computer and thus all they will see if the default font. what server do/did you play on? -Auron 13:06, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm a GW junkie myself but my flat mate is a hardened WoW fan and he plays on the Aegwynn US server. I occasionally jump on to help him out as he kinda sucks at it to be honest. Although admittedly I get told off for indulging in the pvp side of things on his account as apparently "I BLOW" at it. I know about that gorilla as we spent a whole weekend logging on and off every hour to see if he had spawned yet. My flat mate was most upset the first time when some random fella decided to help and killed him and was then even more upset when I later logged on and tamed him using freeze traps. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 13:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
You should roll some chars, the recruit-a-friend EXP bonus is quite amazing. If you already know your way around, you two could prolly get chars to 60 in less than a month. -Auron 13:46, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

april fools

It's probably generally complained about because the point of April Fool's Jokes are that they are illusions of trickery. They aren't supposed to actually do anything bad or cause anything bad to happen, they're just supposed to give that impression and kind of "psyche" a person out. Yet ArenaNet really didn't test it out (go figure) and it actually did cause legit harm to half the game. Even if you don't play PvP, you should able to be able to have some understanding in how this pisses people off, I don't play PvE super hardcore (only to get 1337 skins) but if they gave every monster an AoE insta death move that couldn't be countered and made them all level 5 billion making it impossible for anyone to play any PvE, I'd be pretty pissed because I understand how that ruined the game for other people. DarkNecrid 22:25, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

However if they changed all the enemies into stick men for 24 hours, I honestly wouldn't be that fussed. It didn't make PvP impossible, it just made it exceptionally difficult for a 24 hour period. Do I think they should have tested it more first, yes I do. Is it as game breaking as to warrant a years worth of complaining about it, not really. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 22:27, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
No one could create items through the J menu, yes it made PvP impossible. You couldn't apply runes or create items unless you were a Ranger. DarkNecrid 22:29, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
Again that was indeed stupid, I only ever play as a ranger so I didn't notice any change personally, but I will concede that such an error is a pain in the arse for everyone. As I said I do think they need to test it properly. I'm not trying to say that I think pushing bugs into the live server is a good thing, as course it isn't. I just don't think a 24 hour glitch is that big of an issue. If it happens again this year however clearly they just aren't testing things properly and if you want me to sign a complaint or in some way back up the wronged parties I would be willing to do so, However I just think even anet is entitled to a couple of mistakes along the road, dont you? -- Salome User salome sig2.png 22:53, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I do, I understand bugs get through, but when the bugs make PvP unplayable for anyone not a Ranger by making it impossible for anyone not a Ranger to rune up (which was fine for someone who keeps their PvP chars the same, but I like to change mine often since I play all the game types except HA) and by making stuff like pre-protting and watching the battlefield useless (which made being a prot monk incredibly dumb) it is also understandable why the consumers complain too. I can understand why it happens and so on, most of their QA team is going to work on GW2 more and more as it begins to come out and stuff like the last 2 elite skill updates which were riddled with bugs are going to become more and more likely, but at the same time I understand consumers who are exercising their right to complain about the product too, especially when the product has a history of very lol bugs that make you wonder about their QA sometimes (Cultist's Fervor.....). Let it go until we resolve this 100% — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 20:50, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

To bring a neutral party into this, I don't see any policy violations from the two users in question. Y0 has rickrolled plenty of people before, and in various ways, none of them any worse than a banner spoof. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 21:02, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Jon, I honestly don't think so. 3 admins have asked for the link to be removed including other users. Rickrolling people is fair enough, however this is taking it one step further. This isn't about including benign links into ones own page, but rather mimicking existing wiki systems to trick people into using the links. I don't mind people rickrolling people, using clever links and the like, however the one that CA is doing at the mo is out of order as it makes people cautious of clicking system messages, which shouldn't be the case. That's why this is different. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 21:11, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
A few hours ago, A F K When Needed left a message on my talk page calling me a coward for not signing my comments. So I replied "I'm not reading my new messages from now on thanks to the spoof. Have a nice day."72.71.209.90 21:17, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Knowing that users can put a banner like that or close enough on there page and the external link icon was enough for me, but I see your point. Even then, I would hold off on a forced fix (fixing it yourself) until the offender either changes it themselves, or isn't going to fight back if you correct it. Neither is the case atm. If you continualy remove it, your going to start a revert war, wiki drama, or worse. Don't force things until you have no other options. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 21:22, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Archives

How long does a talk page have to be before it can be archived? And....ummm how do you create an archive lol? Siadina User Siadina Siadina Signature.png 03:53, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

hey Sia, technically a talk page can be any length when you choose to archive it. Personally I tend to wait til its between 32kb - 64kbs long, however I'm notoriously late in archiving. As for creating an archive, in it's simplest form you just work out an archive system which is appropriate to you, such as archive date - date, or simply archive 1 and make a page to reflect this, copy and pasting all the info from your talk page onto that new page, saving the new archive page and then deleting all the info on your old page. An example of an archive page for you could be User_talk:Siadina/Archive 01. Hope this helps. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 06:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

If she isn't going to die then I don't see the point of Denny- I never liked him anyway, and Alex is so much better- though then they would have needed to come up with another reason to kick Hahn off the show. --Shadowcrest 21:08, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Hahn got kicked cause the network didnt like the lesbian relationship which was developing on the show. As for Meredith, she kinda annoys the hell outta me. She just whines all the time for no reason about everything. Dead Denny was a way of bringing the character back as lots of people liked the actor, however it took to long to get to the reveal and it all went a wee bit Scooby Doo. Alex is one of the more interesting characters as he's had alot of depth poured into him. As for Izzy being kicked, it's not that they want rid of her, its that the actress wants to pursue her film career which is taking off in a big way, however their are major rumors flying about that she wont be leaving til the end of season 6. As for George, they have seriously under used his character this season and he needs alot more air time, they also need to develop his character more away from being whiny moppy boy, into being a young and confident doctor. The only thing which is currectly keeping me watching is Sloan and Lexi's relationship and Christina's and Hunt's as those 2 couples have an interesting dynamic. Bailey however needs to get some of her old fire back as her character is becoming a wee bit stagnant and Derek needs to stop being so bloody needy and feeling so sorry for himself. I loved Season 1 and 2, but the last couple of years it's just became a bit stagnant and the characters haven't been given alot of inner development. In conclusion I think the following things need fixed:
  • Meredith needs to stop being quite as neurotic and whinny as she is,
  • Baily needs to get some of her sass back,
  • George needs extra development,
  • Izzy needs to get her arse cured and start doing all the things which make her Izzy, e.g. the caring touchy feely crap,
  • The never ending supply of lesbians needs to stop as its silly,
  • And finally all of them need to start teaching the interns as it's just ludicrous that they would be allowed to neglect the training of their students in this manner.
