Please stop[edit]

Hey there. I know you're trying to do a good thing, but you've got to go back and revert all the skill changes you made. Those skills aren't available from those trainers. The skills that you've added as available from Firstwatch Sergio, for example, only appear available because you've unlocked them already, but they're not available for players that haven't unlocked them. For example, Ignorance is not available to my mesmer from Firstwatch Sergio because I haven't unlocked it with another character. I'd go back and revert myself, but I'm terribly busy with work right now. Thanks! Kokuou 08:42, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem! :D You're not the first one to do it, so don't worry too much about it. Usually people only do a few at a time, but the recent changes were already filled up, so I just thought I'd see if I could catch you before it was too late. ;) Nice to see so much dedication, though. Kokuou 08:46, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
No, unfortunately there's no way of doing batch reverts that I know of. :( Kokuou 08:56, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
LOL! Wludwig, it's really totally fine, as Kokuou pointed out you are by no means the first one who has done that, and I can guarantee you won't be the last. We have requested the 'default' list of skills available from each trainer from Anet, but with everything else, it has become very low priority for them. I think once they do provide it, the skill trainer lists will be protected from further well meaning edits. It's great to see you at least trying to make a positive contribution! Btw... it's also more proper wiki etiquette to respond to messages here, rather than on the poster's talk page. It allows more continuity and conversation flow if it's all in one place. Happy Wiki-ing! --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 09:30, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you too, Wyn. Fortunately I managed to revert all changes I made. I just can't understand why the skill trainers show all unlocked skills and not only those he has to sell; afterall, to check for (un)locked skills, one only needs to visit the Balthazar Priest. Thanks again. - Lud 09:34, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
The way I understand it is that for those players that have yet to unlock all the skills it keeps the challenge of the game if they only can get skills from certain trainers as they progress through a campaign. I know that in Prophecies this is especially true, as it allows a character to develop more naturally based on level as well as gives the player more of a chance to learn how each skill works if they can only get certain skills by getting farther in the game. Adding the unlocked skills to the trainers allows for more vetran players to add skills to additional character more quickly. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 09:38, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that kind of skill distribution among trainers-storyline is perfectly understandable if you take into consideration the "role playing" aspect of the game in co-relation with the personal development of each character. What I do not understand, however, is why trainers show ALL locked and unlocked skills of that chapter plus core and not only the skills A-Net has set each trainer to sell. See, the reason I got into the trainer page updating is because a friend of mine told me he bought Rodgort's Invocation at Ember Light Camp, to what I replied it was also available at the trainer in LA, when, in fact, it is not. What I learn now is I only see it in LA because I have it unlocked, which, to be honest, confuses me. And why is that? A-Net knows. - Lud 09:50, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Ease of use tbh. I wouldn't want to have to travel to ELC (or gate of torment) every time I wanted to buy a skill. Easier to unlock once and find them at every trainer. -Auron 10:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Ah, now I understand it. Thanks. - Lud 10:22, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

hi[edit]

use show preview. --Cancer Angel y so srs? 10:41, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I would like to point out that you can use the Show preview option to see small edits and then continue editing without having to save. This minimizes the number of entries on the page history, as well as the number of entries on Recent changes. If you are going to continue to make small additions to your page you may want to select This is a minor edit so that those of us monitoring Recent changes can at least filter out your edits. Thanks!--Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:41, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Got it. - Lud 10:57, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

What he means is you shouldn't. Nobody's gonna kill you for doing it.
Most users opt to archive past discussions in subpages. You can create a page called User talk:Wludwig/Archive1 or something and move old conversations there, and when the archive gets pretty big, start another. Or however you feel comfortable keeping track of old comments. user talk:reggie and user talk:gaile have some interesting ideas. -Auron 14:38, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
