Talk headers

wow this is all empty now :/ --Cursed Angel talk 15:30, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

you don't like it? D: btw, you just defiled this archive by leaving out the heading D; curse you! —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:36, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
haha i could make one if u want --Cursed Angel talk 15:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
is it allowed to add headings to existent talks? Well but i just remembered i also did so once...so i suppose it wouldn't be a big deal^^ (it is forbidden afaik as that could maybe cause the talk to be difficult to understand for other users, as it would likely be in this case here xD) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:46, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Why would it be forbidden? Calor Talk 19:23, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I heard that even your own comments shouldn't be deleted as this would cause confusion...well, i thought it would accordingly be forbidden to change existent talks at all, including missing headers or similar. But thanks for the explication - and the heading ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
lol the talk header is named talk header --Cursed Angel talk 00:51, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
No, it's named talk headers ;) Calor Talk 00:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) yes, Calor's action was an incredibly creative and at the same time simply unimaginative one.^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:56, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
yah, it takes time to think up something that creative :D --Cursed Angel talk 00:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Unused icons

Where are you getting all those unused icon images from? And what exactly were they used for? Just curious. --Mini Me talk 17:50, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

i had already saved them on my pc a long time, thought i could finally start uploading them now. All those icons are from my gw.dat file. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:52, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Aaaaah I see! Any clue in the .dat for what they were used for? --Mini Me talk 17:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
idk why they are still included there, but it also contains ancient skill icons like that of "Don't Believe Their Lies!". So some of them are likely unused icons from planned skills in prophecies that weren't integrated into the game. Some others are for unknown reason images of other skills in their "picture formation phase", and the rest are maybe optional icons that once were intended to be used for a specific skill. Some of them are maybe also monster skills, but i wouldn't suppose them to be as they have the typical proffesion colors. (Most special monster skill icons have a dark oange coloring) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
many necro icons there, more than it'd be needed for a campaign, like 25? and theres more than 40? strange but anyway the monk icon isnt that the buff u get in eotn when ure under level 20? --Cursed Angel talk 22:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
oh lol, just left you a note on your talk as i also noticed that you are unblocked now, but you already noticed.^^ And yeah, you're right. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 22:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandalized

User Y0 ich halt Raptor.jpg This user's user page has been vandalized once.

? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

(the preceding comment took a bit longer than usual as the writer forgot that he uses ie and not ff atm, then noticed again that ie sucks in switching between websites and had to write it again)Oh, i didn't know you have a tl for this. I used lemi's userbox. He seemingly got his from the original wiki. But i don't get what the pic of your box's picture wants to say. It looks like a cat in a bathroom, but what does this have to do with a raptor/s? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:10, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
the pic is a raptor. do you know Raptors? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:40, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
i know him slightly, but never directly talked to him, only saw several of his comments on talk pages. However, i still cannot identify what exactly the picture shows. A Raptor, a userpic of Rapotros, or a rl-Raptor? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
ah, i think i see it now! it's a model t-rex on tiled floor, right? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:34, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
exactly. maybe i should put it into photoshop and delete the background... :) - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 14:29, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
i'm looking for a better pic anyway, so if you happen to find something... - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 14:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
yeah, that would make it easier to figgure out what this pic actually intends to be^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 14:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Skill ideas

Awesome! just a question, did u maek the icons urself? they luuk very real --78.82.75.121 23:52, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

thanks :D in act, they are real. Got them from gw.dat. They are unused. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:53, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
yah, a few of them luuks liek real skills, order of undeath and ravenous gaze i think. luuks liek theyre all nightfall skills too by the art. u have found any mesmer skills from there? --78.82.75.121 00:02, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
made an account so i could upload these User Cancer Angel Skill icons.jpg it's from the cards u can download from the website, there was a few moar, price of pride i think but no big change, don't know why they maek different icons and dont use :/ --Blood Angel 00:19, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
excuse my late answer, didn't notice that i auto-logged out. I know that several skills got removed from the game in prophecies instead of getting nerfed, don't ask me why. additionally, some of these Necromancer icons could also be optional icons for Masochism, maybe they made several ones and didn't delete them. There are some icons that are about three years old but were never used ingame, it's a bit strange. Maybe you want to have a look at Category:Historical content. There is no information about Necromancer skills yet, but about several ranger, warrior, mesmer, and even the "missing" mesmer elite skill. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
btw, where did you get these icons from? I already saw them once ago in the old wiki, but also didn't know where the user got them from. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:54, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
nvmd...too tired, excuse my thoughtlessness :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:58, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
oh i know, im cursed btw :D --78.82.75.121 01:04, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Blood Angel = CA? 0_ô why didn't you use your normal account? The comment on Gaile's talk also didn't remind me of you —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:07, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
blocked --78.82.75.121 01:08, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
ahh right, just noticed so when casually looking through the admin noticeboard. For how long did they block you for your rickroll-insult? Anja said something about "longer the next time", so i thought it wouldn't be that long and you already are unblocked again. (btw, when looking through your contribs...yeah, the second one makes more sense to me now.) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:13, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Revert

Hi, I reverted this, because we are only listing signet of capture if it's available before you can buy it. (If I'm not totally wrong.) Just wanted to let you know! :) - anja talk 10:37, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

ok, sry. I thought we had only to be aware when listing skill trainers, as unlocked skills will be offered from any trainer, didn't know we don't list them if they were already available before this part of the story. (Although i suppose not all players already automatically were at these outposts when they can encoutner that boss, one can leave out many parts in Prophecies...) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:34, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

icon images

why are you replacing dat icons, with dat icons? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 03:18, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

are you sure they were .dat icons? I supposed them to be photoshopped ingame screenshots, as unlike the regular .dat icons, they didn't have 64x64px measures. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 13:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
I think they were just cropped dat icons, they seem identical in every other way. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 13:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually I take that back, the skale fin was missing a chunk of the right side, so I think you are right :) --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 13:17, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) cropped? why?...that destroys the nice uniformity of having all the same size :( —ZerphatalkThe Improver 13:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

gw.dat

I am curious to know how you go about extracting files from the gw.dat --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 12:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

i think that's the fourth or fifth gw.dat header xD The links where i got it are written down here. (The program you need is called "GWDatBrowser". I found it by searching in google, in case the links don't work you could try to get it this way) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 13:22, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I got the browser from google. I pulled alot of the sounds adn they were all in french :P anyway to identify which is which? --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 20:27, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) identify what exactly? I didn't do much with the sounds yet, but i noticed that i seemingly had sounds from every language. and the common sounds of monsters, like rollerbeetles. (i even noticed that you can here something like the putting away of the microphone in one sound file^^) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:51, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

weißt du noch, von welcher seite du den browser runtergeladen hast? ich hab keinen bock auf unliebe erfahrungen mit keyloggern und so zeugs. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:39, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I will get the link for you I just gotta find it again :P --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 20:41, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
i meant zerpha, he's been using it for a longer time. if you just downloaded it, chance is lower they've already received your password if there was a keylogger. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
I did nto understand, that...... do u mean a trojan? --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 20:50, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
—ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:51, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Y0 if u meant a trojan and/or virus, I did a full scan after download, none were detected. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 20:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) i also didn't hear anything about keyloggers before, only trojans as well^^ According to the german wiki, couldn't you protect yourself with a "virtual keyboard", y0? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:55, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
keyloggers are programs that register everything you input with your keyboard (which is why you can protect yourself from the worse ones using a virutal keyboard; you click the buttons in such programs). once they find what they were made to find, they send it to their programmer. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 21:09, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
good, that's exactly how i would have described it after browsing the wiki article^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

UTOPIA THEME SONG!!!

Idk if anyone else found it, but I think I may have found the GW Utopia theme song while browsing the gw.dat.....or not maybe idk but it is really pretty song lol --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 22:10, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

wow, nice found. are you sure it's used nowhere? i only discovered some strange flute sounds...were maybe intended to be used for gwen, but i did never hear them. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 22:13, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I think so far I have found over 15 unused sounds, how ever a few may have been used in GW:EN. But most of what I found seems to have an odd theme to it; it is nothing like the theme of any of the GW games. I am looking for more, most of them are in the 80,000 region of the gw.dat; if u r interested. --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 00:34, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
thanks for that tip, i'll look for it the next time i browse gw.dat. Atm i have fun using the "Chest Engine", thanks to Smurf's little tuturial. You won't believe me, but they gave Mantra of Celerity a concise skill description! :D Is there still hope that those skills will find their way into the game?... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:59, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Nah. I suspect all the concise skill descriptions were done automatically by following set conventions, and Anet never took Mantra of Celerity and others out of their skill files. Calor Talk 01:12, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
D: plz wait with casting Drain Delusions on me the next time i'm in a euphoric mood. bah...but you're very likely right. >.< —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:17, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Mimic

how do u know it's concise description? i mean, did they add a concise description to a skill thats no longer in game? --Cursed Angel talk 01:40, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

lol didnt see that question there. lol -- Salome User salome sig.png 01:45, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) as Calor said above, they likely systematically added concise descriptions to all skills, because of that these unused skills were included. Atm i'm looking at these skills by using Cheat Engine, Smurf was that nicely to explain how to look at skills with that program on this page. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:46, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
i just wanna know why, if they did it on purpose or if those who worked with it didn't know these skills were no longer in game :/ --Cursed Angel talk 01:51, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
hmmm, with "systematically" i meant that they likely run a program that re-writes all skills in "the list", without excluding special unused skills with various numbers. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:54, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
but u can use those skills or how can u see their description? --Cursed Angel talk 01:56, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
regrettably, i can only look at them. :) but maybe one could also "test" them, but idk if this would work, though. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
would be cool to test the disappear skill :D --Cursed Angel talk 02:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
yes, then we could find out whether they already programed that weirdo or not :D —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:11, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Concise description of Disapeer

errr.... how do you know the concise description of that skill? I was to understand that this skill was never released and was no longer a part of the active build of GW. -- Salome User salome sig.png 01:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

hmm, what i wrote to CA is about that same that i'd answer now, at best simply read my answer above ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 01:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

There are really strange unused skills...

User Zerpha The Improver Titans get plus Health regen and set ennemies on fire each time he is hit.jpg
0ô —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:19, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

the name of that skill is awesome --Cursed Angel talk 02:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
indeed. and i suppose that it's some sort of "active" skill, like Undead Sensitivity to Light. This will become a great looking atricle. i mean, the heading :D —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:24, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
haha yah, and all titans are male :D --Cursed Angel talk 02:26, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
User Zerpha The Improver Quest Skill for Coastal Exam.jpg

ok, that's the last one for today xD that even tops the previous! i like especially the ending on this one. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:29, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

oh lol the effect was so lame that they added a "that's it" in the skill description :D --Cursed Angel talk 02:38, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
AWESOME! XD - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 10:32, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
thanks for removing removed skills from the skills lists, that was really hard for me to see them all together : ) lussh 19:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
np. if i wouldn't have done it, another one would sooner or later ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
In case you weren't aware of it, costal exam is the old beta name of what became the Divinity Coast mission. Backsword 08:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
ok thanks, that makes sense, i supposed something quite similar. (I thought the Divinity Coast mission was only a primary quest at first. Maybe they changed it to a mission because you are teleported into the Maguuma Jungle afterwards...though there are many primary quest that teleport oneself to a new outpost when talking to npcs) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

"That's it." xD - anja talk 12:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

My overfilled screenshot folder

Well, it consumes about 1,75GB and i have to transfer the data on the main pc temporarily to my laptop, as we will get a new harddrive. But the lap can't save that much data, so i decided to create a Photobucket account and tried to upload them there. This would have taken hours, so i think i'll just have to say good bye to most of the screens.^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:01, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Convert them to jpgs? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 23:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
the problem is, most of them are already .jpg files, but those are about 1,500 files :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Burn them to a CD/DVD or copy to an inexpensive flash drive? --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 23:16, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
oh, good idea i'll simply burn them to a CD^^ —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:18, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) You can eaisly get a 1 to 2 GB flash drive. I was going to say at your local walmart, but then i realized I do not know if he has walmart there :P --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 23:20, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
i can't remember where zerpha lives, but at least 40km around my home, there's no single walmart. three (or more?) weeks ago lidl sold 2gb sticks for 11 euro a piece. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 00:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
thanks again for your tips, but i didn't want to fill a usb stick with that (i could have likely purchased one in a media markt i suppose), but now simply burned most of them to a CD. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:20, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Category tree

Would you mind if I added Category:Unique axe icons to Category:Axe icons also, so it's a subcategory? (And similar with the rest of the categories) - anja talk 19:13, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

do i even have a say in that matter?^^ for sure i don't mind, good idea. Actually, i wanted to ask you if we should possibly also make Category:Unique weapon icons to a subcategory of Category:Weapon icons, as you suggested it. I wanted to do it at first, but then hesitated doing it, as it would be listed between the specific (non-unique) weapon type's icons, what appeared wrong to me. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:17, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Hehe, yes you do. You seem to be the inventory icon master :P
Yea, I thought about it being listed weirdly in Weapon icons. We'll see if someone else has a comment :P - anja talk 19:21, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
jup. :) and while talking about listing: i just noticed that the subcategories of Category:Unique weapon icons are all shown at "U", i'll try to fix that. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 19:29, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Unused skill icons

Hey Zerpha i'm sorry im such a little n00blet but I can't download the one image from your gallery I wanted so what would happen if: I went to the upload log (for one of these) and just copied and pasted User_Zerpha_The_Improver_skill_icons_unused_Me4.png‎ into the upload form? would it work or just majorly screw your image up?--The Forsaken One 20:01, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

The problem is the diffrent image type. Skills are normally uploaded as .jpg files, i uploaded those as .png files. You could either download the icons, and save them again as .jpg file, then upload them again; or you could add an "image" parameter to the skill icon box...oh wait, i see. You already tried to do it with a parameter, but you used the wrong word:
{{User skill infobox
|name= Transfuse Hexes
|profession= Mesmer
|attribute= Domination
|user= The Forsaken One
|icon=

The template doesn't know what to do with "icon", but if you change this line to "image", then it will work. In case you want to use one of the icons from my list, something like:

{{User skill infobox
|name= Transfuse Hexes
|profession= Mesmer
|attribute= Domination
|user= The Forsaken One
|image =

ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:09, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

sry, nvmd, just noticed you used User skill infobox, not skill infobox, then you actually used the right parameter...yet it doesn't seem to work, strage... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:11, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
hmmmm I can't figure out how to download the icons, I mean normally images have up at the top a link to download them but where that normally is it just says the name of your image so idk--The Forsaken One 20:13, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
i normally download them by going directly to the images page (e.g. Image:User_Zerpha_The_Improver_skill_icons_unused_Me9.png), right-click on the icon and save them by clicking on the fourth line ("Save image as").
btw, the template doesn't work with .png files at the moment, as the image name is made diffrent in this template

The name is changed only in seperate words, once by the user and once by the name parameter. So we either have to ask whether we may change the template or, as you already tried to, download the icons and re-upload them with according name —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:22, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

OHHHH I didn't try clicking the "Save as" button! I'll try that and see if it works (I don't think it's worth asking somebody to change it) --The Forsaken One 20:25, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
well i don't think it'd be a problem :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:45, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Eh, oh well it looks like I fixed it, thanks--The Forsaken One 20:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I see, it worked now^^ ok that's also a solution. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Assassin traps

where the hell did you find those descriptions? o.o - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:22, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

you must know, I'm a haxx0r. ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Smurf helped me out. :) You may noticed that Smurf added almost all concise descriptions to the skills. That must have been more than 1000 skills. Anet seemingly run a program to add the concise descriptions automatically, poor Smurf had to type every single description seperately. (Idk why Anet actually not also simply ran Bot to add those descriptions to the Wiki as well. I mean, it's the official wiki with Anet members also contributing here...) Whoops, i'm flying off from the subject. :P Uhm well. When i saw Smurf also added concise descriptions to Snow Fighting skills, i started wondering how he was able to do so. I saw those thing by using Cheat Engine. (That program has at some point indeed a hacking-touch^^) From this point on, his talk section, or especially his guide he made should clearify this. :) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:50, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Elections

A few quick questions before the elections get here (I am going to try to ask each sysop and users, who imo deserve it, these questions):

 1. If you were nominated would you accept?
 2. If so, Do you believe that you would make a good bcrat?
 3. Would you be able to make wise choices when it comes to selecting administrators?
 4. Would you be sure to explain your actions when using your powers as a bcrat?
 5. Would you wear you status as a bcrat as a badge?
 6. Would you consider policy before taking any and all actions?
 7. How do feel towards our wikis community?

That should be enough. Thanks! --Shadowphoenix User-Shadowphoenix Shadow Phoenix Signet.jpg 22:16, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

wow, I feel really honoured that you picked me and think i deserve this status :) Here are my answers:
 1. No. However, I'll answer to the remaining questions.
 2. Actually no, for the reason that i don't think i have high enough programing knowledge. Additionally, i don't know whether i could keep my current activity.
 3. As you possibly noticed, i did not contribute to many elections yet, as i think i don't know enough about most user's or their edits to make fair decisions.
 4. The special tools themselves would be handy, and i normally wouldn't do anything inconsiderated with them, so i likely would be able to do so in most cases.
 5. I'd be proud of having this status, but i wouldn't boast with it.
 6. I don't know about all policies, especially minute details. It could sometimes occur that i break a couple of them.
 7. I couldn't mind any users that were especially unfriendly towards me. For sure, there are always people one cannot like that much, but i'd rate the community as a kind, funny and helpful one.

Accelerated Growth

I wonder about the icon for Accelerated Growth, because in my browsing through the DAT I've found an icon that is essentially the same, except the person in the icon has rotting/decaying skin. I would assume that the "clean" version might have been a Chinese version of the icon that was made before it was eventually removed. Would it be possible for you to check the skill in-game to make sure the icon is correct?

indeed, i noticed that my icon is the wrong one. I'm glad you have the "skletral" version, as that is icon is actually used ingame. (I also tagged the icon with image update, suppose you didn't notice this because of the redirect.) Feel free to upload yours. :) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

you're talking about "actually used ingame", but i've never seen this icon anywhere. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 16:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
ah, now i get it, you are talking about note at my unused skill icons list. Oh sry, you're talking about my first comment here :P Yeah, right. The wording is a bit dumb, as you can't actually see any of these icons ingame. But they would be brighter if you could see them (and you can, by using Cheat Engine). —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Just going to add this here, but you've just put up a new page,Unknown (Disguise), and mention that the skill was apparently put in around the same time as Party Time!. exactly :P (this time i even saved the image with the (as you called it) "Save for Web & Devices function", so it should exactly look as if you'd have uploaded it.) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Skill/Effect Icons

Help me here. What file type are skill/effect icons? Like, if I was looking for the icon for Barrage, what file type would it be? ATEXDXT1? ATEXDXT3? Something else? Calor Talk 22:53, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I have to excuse me, i don't know more about gw.dat and the minis than you do, their icons will also not appear in gw.dat until one saw them ingame, which isn't the case yet...
we could possibly try to change one of the images in the inventory with Cheat Engine as one can do with skill icons. (But I already tried that once and didn't succeed :/)
Finally my comment on the minis: great list :D yet idk why they are going to add a reskinned Miniature Greased Lightning and a Miniature Aatxe instead of new models —ZerphatalkThe Improver 17:36, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Nice catch. Either you are right, and this one uses a unique model as well, or it's an EotN rabbit, as those are more or less white, yet they aren't really big, so maybe it's just named "White Rabbit" as this miniature uses the original size of the actual model? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

files

Ok since you do a lot with the .dat file, what is the .tmp file?--The Forsaken One 19:07, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Never mix up quality with quantity. ;) Do you refer to gw.tmp? I don't exactly know what it does, but i suppose it to temporary saves some information that does not get added to gw.dat for some reason. It has 0kb, and seems to get in use when running GW, as the "last used" notice gets updated then. Though you can open it while playing, so this presumption could be wrong, ir it doesn't seem to be at least permanently in use. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:37, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm a fan

I noticed you fixed the page for The Frog (miniature) to have a capital "t" in "The." I had quite a lively discussion with a bunch of knowledgeable people about that very subject. Many felt that the "The" capitalization isn't warranted, but dang, it just didn't seem right without it! (Plus, I could see a certain amphibian kicking up a fuss about it, for who knows his name better than he?) Anyway, I relayed his firm position that in the end, it was, is, and evermore shall be, The Frog. Thanks for making that fix, and pointing out the rightness of it. :) --- Gaile User gaile 2.png 02:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I wasn't aware that there's so much trouble about it. I don't know what arguments these people brought up. Maybe because it's an article? The miniature itself is named "The Frog" and not "Miniature The Frog" for example, because that would have been bad grammar. On the other side, the miniature wasn't named "Miniature Frog" on purpose, as the article is simply part of his name. As i supposed the minorcase t to be a little mistake, i changed it as i thought (like mentioned in the summary of this edit) "The Frog" is a proper name with capital t, as "Prince Rurik" is is a proper name with capital p. Since The Frog himself doesn't care about it, the current spelling in the article seems to be right.
(A last question: to what refers the headline? capitalization?)ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

hey hey

hey hey matey, are you any good with wiki coding matey? as im stumped with something at the moment. -- Salome User salome sig.png 15:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'd call it some sort of basic knowledge for "most necessary things". I can detect a couple of things in a "semi-complex" wiki text or template...(using "trial and error" can also sometimes be helpful) But i have to pass on such things like Galil's monobook.js, or why i get poke's guild wars wiki tools for having typed that stuff in my [User:Zerpha_The_Improver/monobook.js|monobook.js]], or Galil's monobook.js.
But maybe i can help, where's the problem? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:16, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
The problem is this page: User:Salome/Skill_Capture, i want the wee progression bars to be in the centre of the relevant boxes which ive managed to workout how to do, however it all looks fine at 100% complete progression, but the problem shows itself at anything under that. For some reason if i centre the prgression bar the progressions inside the bar itself no longer goes from left to right. I know this all sounds very confusing but if you go down to the Faction's skill,s you'll see what i mean easily. For the life of me i cant work out how to get the progression boxes to work normally, while keeping them centred in the relevant boxes. -- Salome User salome sig.png 16:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
<center> seemingly adjusts the entire coding in Progress bar to the middle, including the "progress bar padding". I first tried it by removing <center> and adding the progress bar in a new line with valign="center;" instead of valign="top;". But i didn't get both the progress bar and the "class headline" into one nice looking box... So replaced <center> with <span valign="center;"> instead, and...uhm, it kinda worked. I have no idea why it works when using span, but well, the main thing is it works now, isn't it? As i said, idk that much, but trial and error can proof helpful :P —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Lol copy and paste ftw! --Pling! \ Brains12 \ Talk 15:42, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) yeah, i also noticed that. Salome already uploaded the deldrimor weapon renders very early, and possibly forgot that the .png files are normally used for icons. Risky then reuploaded the icons for those files, and likely also reuploaded the file for the Hornbow, Recurve Bow and Flatbow then to have all those files uniform.
But I thought about uploading the "missing" Recurve bow, Flatbow and Hornbow icons anyways, as i'm actually not a friend of these "common" icons that are used for several pages.
If we add the icons to the weapon template later, it'll be easier to have one icon for every specific page. I think we should delete images like Image:Gorgon focus.png and reupload it twice, once for every weapon.
In the image description could be mentioned other icons that share its appearance then.
Preceding like this will also be advantageous if we're going to create templates like Skill icon for those icons. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:47, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
That's also actually the reason why i moved the deldrimor icons from to . I was going to upload them again as with . —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I think that's a good idea, and I agree with you. Simpler that way. Just remember to not copy-paste-save ;D - anja talk 16:00, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Well yeah, i did not know where i should suggest this template else, and as nobody seemingly was opposed to the idea, i created it. I also did not use the template anywhere until yet, in case someone has any proposals to change several parts. What do you think of it? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:59, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Yah, I'll take a look at it. One thing; we need to pick an avaialable colour scheme of Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Infoboxes. Looks like it's either palee pink of saturated pink. Yay. Backsword 00:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, that's what i searched for (as i knew there was something about colors for infoboxes). I didn't find it again, so i used the color used for weapons.
But as we have interactive objects in the category "Items" on this page, wouldn't it be better to create another orange color scheme instead (as i suppose bundles would be added to this section). Yet I also wouldn't mind if they became pink. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:15, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
You're right about the objects. That doesn't make much sense, really. I guess there are some who think of them as items, I recently removed a note on the powder keg station page stating that you couldn't put it in your inventory, which of course is true... True for Abaddon too.
It'd make sense to me to switch the object infobox to pink and use it's earlier colour for bundles. Backsword 01:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Picking up interactive obects, what a great idea.^^ - Yet exchanging the colors is indeed a nice idea, i think we can proceed like this. (To what exactly did you refer when speaking about Abaddon? Icon gallery category

Heya, I hope you agree with this addition. I was trying to find icons to use on a userpage, and got too frustrated trying to find them, so I thought it might be good to categorize the galleries.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 19:51, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

yeah, that's nice so far. I'm not sure whether it's better to only include galleries that directly show the categories with icons, or to create main-categories for those lists with several icons, like the Category:Armor icon galleries. Well, i didn't immediately notice that, so i removed Category:Icon galleries from the two scroll sub-pages again and added Category:Scroll icon galleries to Category:Scroll icons.
Btw, at the moment i'm not sure whether the "consumable gallery" should be named "Category:Consumable icons" or "Category:Consumable item icons". I actually think the "item" is redundant, though aberrant meant it would be needed.
(Excuse me in case that response sounded unclear) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:00, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
no, it made sense. I was just trying to find a way to get all the icons viewable in a central location. We need to create an Images category box on Guild Wars Wiki:Categorical index to make all these different categories easier to find.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 20:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like a job for User:Wikichu :D I disagree about the Droknar's and Zaishen keys. While ithey are also in the Rewards trophy category, it ARE keys, so the images should be in both. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wynthyst (talk • contribs) at 21:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC).

How is Hero icons in conflict with inventory icons? Icons are icons... if you want them subcategorized differently, go for it. See my sandbox (at the bottom) for an example of an images category box. I would love to see a tree of the images categories.--Go to Wynthyst's Talk page Wynthyst 12:16, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
A tree could be adviceable here, though idk how the design within that box could look like. The color appears a bit dark to me, maybe also because the contrast between the "blue/purple wiki-link color" is a bit small. :P (And I'll think about splitting the inventory icons and hero/profession icons up later.) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, I lightened it up, I'm just trying to stay away from the monk blues. ok, great :) All you have to do is to show the icons in the trade panel to me (see Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Inventory icons/Contact) As you wrote your igns down on your userpage, i'll pm you as far as i'm online the next time and notice that you are as well. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Cool :) Identifying them shouldn't be the problem. Did you already take a look at Category:Polymock piece icons? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:46, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Icons project status

I think the non-uniques are quite complete now, missing some of the not-so-polular wintergreens, asian promotional weapons and PvP reward weapons which will be hard to get. Uniques are missing a lot but a fair number still do share the same undyed icon as the non-uniques so you can just upload over. However, I think most will require extraction with texmod <_<... Jennalee 09:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

yeah, since you uploaded most of the last missing icons now i thought about asking whether we could finally change the item template to show the icons - but for non-unique weapons only at first, as they (as you said) most often need a texmod extraction and hence still need most icons. Though there is for sure also a big amount of greens that use undyed versions of their skins and could hence be uploaded by using the GWDat extracts. But before changing the item infobox i'll have to split all the multiple-skin pages, at best according to the icons' disambigs. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 10:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
With the splitting, you could use the standardized names implemented for the the skins for PvP reward, since they are more official names but that might be quite confusing. Eg. for the crystal skin Earth Staff that Cynn uses, Crystallized Earth Staff. Jennalee 11:35, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that tip, i knew that we were actually geared at the pvp-reward skin names, but i forgot about that now :P As the PvP "Crystallized Earth Staff" and the "regular" weapon named "Earth Staff" with "core" skin are two seperate articles, we'll upload two icons, one for each page, so "finding the right icon" drops out. In case you refered to the confusion among the players looking at the disambig page, i also don't think it's a problem if we add a gallery to every skin, possibly with a little description. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 11:45, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
In the course of my trading, I get loads of greens to sell from guild/alliance, so if you need to do extractions on them point me to the page of what's missing and I will do my best to let you know when I have one.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 04:44, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I think the majority of them are missing or need replacing because of transparency. Just take a look at the red links in pretty much all the uniques sections. I'm not sure how easy it is to extract via texmod, for this I'll be more able to take a look when I'm not quite so busy with projects/exams Jennalee 13:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, also, one more thing about the icons for the uniques... You'll be able to get two different icons for many of the Proph/Factions greens - one for the versions of the item which dropped before the dye update and retained their old color in both equipped appearance and in their icon and the versions which currently drop, post dye update. Both versions still exist ingame - no update changed them all to one appearance (eg. Zarnas' Wrath with brighter green it drops as now, darker green it previously dropped in) so they're not entirely historical. You might want to sort out the naming before any set of two versions are uploaded. Jennalee 15:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure? I have a Stonehart that used to have a red inventory icon for a long time. since an update dye is no more visible on Divine Symbols, and my stoneheart's inventory icon changed from red to blue. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure about the Proph greens but the Factions ones, yea there's definitely two colors for a lot of them. Also, doesn't that seem like a bug limited to focii? I can think of Strongroot's Shelter, Chkkr's Pincers, Shreader's Talons, Tahkayun's Pincers, as well which have two icons. Pic from old wiki showing the case for Zarnas' Wrath Jennalee 21:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm, this problem with the stoneheart is possibly diffrent from these other unique weapons. You should possibly ask a question on Guild Wars Wiki talk:Formatting/Unique weapons, as it doesn't only affect the icons, but also the appearance of the weapons itself. I'd say we should show the newer versions after the color update primarily, though it's worth mentioning on all those unique weapons affected by the color change; you could maybe preferable leave a note on the Unique item page itself. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 22:14, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I think if two versions exist and both are still in circulation, that the color differences should be noted and documented in different icons and pics if possible, with the primary picture showing the version which currently drops. It is the wiki after all. Not really related to format but, IMO, the old versions for these with the colors from pre dye update were much nicer than the new ones :(. You want to ask for me?
PS: IMO dye not showing on unique focii is probably something to do mainly with unique focii, not just the Stonehart, I noticed a lot of the icons uploaded for unique focii which are known to be dyed but use the default undyed icon. Hmm.. Jennalee 12:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Then we should possibly report this as bug instead, as nobody seemingly identified this feature as one. Your idea about formatting the greens is also a possibility. But to find out whether the existent pictures use an old or a new version of the greens will be hard. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:33, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Nah, not that hard. There's usually pics of both versions floating around in the upload history of the old wiki, so you can just look and compare. For starters, I know the pic i uploaded for Strongroot's Shelter is the older version :p, I've been exceptionally lazy in getting the new one to screen :p Jennalee 23:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, i didn't know they reuploaded all those unique weapons with their new coloring there. Yeah, then it should be easier. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 00:20, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, not really, though I did have something to do with it sometimes <_<. It's just that new pics tend to show the newer vewsion but the older version will still be shown in an older pic. Jennalee 08:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Resign

Since the command is actually /resign, I would say redirect resignation to Resign instead of the other way around. --Shadowphoenix Please, talk to me; I'm so lonley ;-; 23:00, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I thought about naming the page "resign" at first actually, then i thought what other articles we maintain use verbs and couldn't think of anyone, so i used the noun as main article. Idk who i'd have to ask for this, but in case my decision should have been wrong, feel free to move. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 23:03, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah I am going to move it, I think that it is better suited to be resign since the command is /resign, but I will redirect the other page to resign --Shadowphoenix Please, talk to me; I'm so lonley ;-; 23:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Stackable/Not Stackable

Since the parameter in the item infobox is set to default to Category:Stackable, I went through (with some assistance from Kakarot) and added the Not Stackable parameter to all those I was sure didn't stack (runes/weapon upgrades/kits). There are a large number of the quest items that I believe are also not stackable, but without acquiring multiples of them I can't prove it. --Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 04:47, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, good idea actually, i forgot to change the parameter for those item types. I also know that there are several quest items out there that are for some reason not stackable. There is one that comes into my mind now as you get automatically three of them, but you're right, finding out which ones are not will be difficult as you get most often only one item. I personally would prefer an update from Anet that simply makes all quest items stackable, than this point would drop out. ;) —ZerphatalkThe Improver 08:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Canthan

I come from Cantha, with a capital letter, thus I am Canthan. <- proper noun :P --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 20:38, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm yeah, if you refer to the person and use the word as a noun. But if used as a adjective, it's used with a minorcase "c". —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:41, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Canthan not a proper noun? Cantha is the name of their country, Canthan is their nationality.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 20:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) sure? I mean, isn't something like "american burger" also written in minorcase? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, i would write "british flag" >.< So a capital letter was right? Bad...very bad ;( —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I was always taught that nationalities were capitalized as a form of respect. --Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 20:49, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, ok... I thought minorcase would have been right, but it wouldn't have bothered anyone having several articles with wrong capitalization. (When i split up the Earth Staff article i used minorcase disambigs and nobody said something, so i didn't suppose i did anything wrong. Suppose i have to move all these pictures again and remove the deletition tags from still existing images... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
And does anyone know whether "core" counts as a proper noun or not? Normally it isn't, but in guild wars it's at least a special term. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 21:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Dunno, usually not Jennalee 12:19, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
lowerminorcase probably. Calor Talk 18:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok, i'll write "core" disambigs in minorcase then in case it's needed again. But i'll wait for an answer on the weapons formatting talk before i go ahead and change the other disambigs back to upper case again. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:53, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

No Glitter Mod

Hey Zerpha. I've been using your no glitter mod to take bundle screenshots, but I just came across something that did not have the glitter removed. It was the Repair Kit. Any idea why not? Mohnzh say what? 18:02, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Glad to hear :) Well, my mod simply replaces the glitter-causing picture for a black one (black is transperent there). If it still isn't invisible, this one possibly uses another image. Maybe i am just imaging it, but isn't the glitter on the kit's picture slightly diffrent from the regular one? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:15, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Might be because it was used? Treesbyty 12:28, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Random Question

Would you happen to know a program that will allow me to use the gw.dat? I came to you because you seem to be the one who helps the most on this Wiki. Treesbyty 11:45, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, i wouldn't say the most, but i'll try help if i'm asked. :) I was asked about that already several times (or rather about "GWDatBrowser" and how to get it, as that's the porgram i always used.) Though i recently found an entire wiki for such programs, with another possibly useful program for doing this. (But I installed it and it doesn't work yet. According to the readme file i'd have to know a bit about command line programs, which isn't the case. :P)ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, Thanks! Treesbyty 14:12, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to add on, but would this be helpful for extracting images [1]? Treesbyty 14:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem, as this comment was anyways rather an advice than another question i suppose.^^ This one could possibly also proof useful as the description says it can also extract .png files, which is seemingly used for the images in gw.dat. I think that wiki would have more such useful programs, though most of them appear to be started with Command Prompt, and i am to stupid to figure out how to use it. (it tells me something about syntrax error when i try to type those files' addresses into it).
Oh and btw, if you want to give your link a specific name in the wiki, you can do so by typing
[<adress> <your name for the link>]
(with space after adress instead of a bar for normal wiki links). —ZerphatalkThe Improver 18:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
