Feedback:User/Bride of Reanimator/Add signposts to Embark Beach to help new players find their way out

Over the last few months there have been a number of new players in Guild Wars, at least some of which who have been enticed in by the new Guild Wars 2 videos. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of players have, perhaps inadvertently, been brought to Embark beach and not been able to find their way out again. This is exacerbated by:

  • the fact that you can't use the ship to depart via the map from the isles unless your character has previously visited Kamadan, Lion's Arch or Kaineng (which new players won't have)
  • veteran players by and large not being aware of that restriction
  • the fact that the three travel NPCs can be hard to find, and mention the continent they provide travel to (Tyria, Elona, Cantha) rather than the campaign (Prophecies, Nightfall, Factions)
  • the whole purpose of Embark beach being rather opaque to new players

When new players ask for help, I have seen them been abused for stupidity, with other players not realising that exiting via the map and using the ship is not an option for them. And some new players have appeared to be very frustrated. I think this is a bad advertisement for Guild Wars, particularly with Guild Wars 2 impending where new players need to be encouraged if you intend them to buy either game.

My suggestion is to add a few prominent signposts to Embark Beach which explain what the place is, and how to get out of it. The travel npcs are hard to spot amongst the rest, and I think a few signposts along the paths would stand out.

Update: Once again today, in the few brief minutes I visited Embark beach, another player asked how to get out of there, was told "you can't", got annoyed, etc. etc. until I pointed them at the Tyrian travel npc. This must be happening constantly. Discussed this with a guild member, he thought that people were joking when they asked how to get out of there.
