This idea is bad for 1 reason - it won't fix the problem. Whenever a reward is re-added, bots will return. If there is no reward at all for playing, no players will join. Bots and leechers are pretty obvious - very predictable, taking set paths or following someone and using no skills. If ANet spent 1 hour coding a script to catch them and ban them, they'd get rid of the bot accounts period without a negative impact on the players. Either way, ANet doesn't care - none of this is likely to happen, but your suggestion would hurt the game far more than help. -Auron 05:03, 5 June 2012 (UTC)


Re-read the suggestion. At no point did I ever suggest there is to be no reward at all for playing (re-read point "d" in my suggestion as well as the GW2 suggestion link I provided). My suggestion was to eliminate the team reward for the losing side in a match; players would still be given personal rewards based on their accomplishments in the round (capturing points, killing opponents, etc.). In so doing, this would deprive the 'bots and leechers of the free team reward they came for in the abscence of materially contributing to the success of their team.


Personal rewards would still be preserved for players who are actively participating in the game. Real players would still join because they would be rewarded for their participation; even if their team loses. But personal rewards would be insufficient to entice 'bots and leechers to exploit the game. This is because - for leechers - there is no possibility of personal reward because they are not actively participating in the round at all. For 'bots, they may earn some small amount of personal reward for making a kill or a capture; but it will be insignificant as compared to a team reward such that it won't be worth their time and effort to program a 'bot to exploit the game.


Furthermore, at no point did I suggest re-adding a reward. My suggestion is to permanently eliminate team rewards for the losing side in a match. The only way I can see you coming to the conclusion that I intended rewards to be re-added after having been eliminated is by confusing my suggestion to test this out on a temporary basis in GW1's Jade Quarry. That is the only point at which I suggest removing the reward and then re-adding it back in (but only if it doesn't work out). If the suggestion succeeds in deterring 'bots and leechers in this test scenario, then it is fully my intent that it be implemented on a permanent basis in GW2. Never did I suggest to remove a reward and then add it back in at a later date in GW2; that's completely the opposite of what I was suggesting.


As far as your assertion that my suggestion would hurt the game more than help it, there's no way to know that in the abscence of empirical testing. It could just as easily be said that the opposite is true; it will help the game by eliminating 'bots and leechers. Which is why I'm proposing testing this out in GW1 Jade Quarry prior to any potential implementation in GW2. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 07:04, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

I realize it's dead. Which is why it makes the perfect sandbox. What better way to test out an idea intended for GW2 than to give it a trial run in a sub-game of GW1? If it's a complete failure, no big deal; no one will notice, no one will care, and no damage done to GW2.
However, if it's successful, then the lessons learned from the trial run in GW1 can be applied to GW2 proactively before the new game becomes infected with the same problems which have plagued its predecesor. Especially since I imagine it's a fairly simple change to deny the losing side any faction if they lose. They already do it when they have the double faction events; albeit in the opposite direction. It shouldn't be that hard to throw a few coding switches to reverse it so that the losing team gets no faction whatsoever. Then we can sit back and watch the results. If it leads to a measurable decrease in 'bot and leecher activity, then we know it works as a deterrant. If not, Jade Quarry gets reset back to the way it was and we go on with our lives as if nothing happened. Guild Wars 3 perhaps 06:02, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
