FFVII[edit]

I doubt it's an intentional reference, but it This came to mind the first time I saw it, and even more now that I've watched both cinematics back-to-back. This bit with the purportedly-dead Shiro regenerating himself in the bubble strongly reminds me of Sephiroth. Similar traitorous backstory (Shiro fights for Cantha before killing its leader v. Sephiroth fights for Shinra before killing its leader), similar "returns from death to take over and/or destroy the world" goal, similar super-swordsman endgame boss status, even their regen bubbles are the same color. (FFVII cutscene) None of it is an exact parallel and this is just idle speculation of course, but the resemblance between the two is remarkable IMO. -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 17:03, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'm obsessing, because I think I'm on to something here. :P Another potential clue is contained in the names themselves, take a look: SepHIROth. You can't spell "Sephiroth" without "Shiro." There's (arguably) more and this is hardly conclusive evidence of course, but combined with everything else, I think it adds up to at least asking someone who's in a position to know. -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 19:16, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, two non-giant-enemy-crab endgame bosses who also happen to be revived/thought dead swordsmen in any video game setting is not such an uncommon theme. I cannot list any off the top of my head, but many sword&sorcery games feature swordsman bosses and even many of those games feature revived/thought dead adversaries. Shiro is Japanese for "white" while Sephiroth refers to the "Book of Numbers" or "enumerations" in certain Hebrew texts. There is not enough evidence to support a reference between the two. While it would be interesting, and I would otherwise enjoy humoring such an idea, it's simply too far of a stretch without more information. 76.106.245.213 00:51, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
