We do not run any recuitment policy except that those that wish to join are more than welcome.
About Us
Elysium of Angels also known as EOA was created in early 2005 after our previous guild, The Invisble, split. The majority of those players remained to reform this guild and participate in some wacky adventures. Many of us are affiliated to the well known RP player Mad Queen Malafide, who on behalf of her elves runs random giveaways of weapons, keys, items and other things that helps strengthen the spirit of GW. EOA has experimented with Guild vs. Guild and Heroes' Ascent with some success, but down to the lack of willing, active players, we have never taken this up ""full time"". However, we still like try occasionally.
In late 2006, EOA broke from several alliances to return and play with several old friends. It is here we remain and participate in Vanquishing, adventures in the Domain of Anguish, Hard Mode, questing and many other activities until the release of Guild Wars 2
We pride ourselves on maintaining a laidback, friendly atmosphere both in-game and on our forums. We have many members both in the guild and the alliance who have vast in-game achievements, and many others who are just starting out in the worlds of Tyria, Cantha and Elona. The Elves
On special EOA events Mad Queen Malafide is often surrounded by a group of necromancers, known as her elves. The elves are every bit as twisted as their mistress, but enjoy handing out all sorts of presents to the people of Tyria. Over the years the elves have always loyally assembled to share precious treasures with the people of Tyria, usually in Lion's Arch. Such events tend to fill entire districts.
Past events have taken place on Halloween, and the Mad Queen's birthday: 6/6/06. The next date for a giveaway is yet to be announced.
Meaning of Elysium
In Greek mythology, Elysium was a section of the Underworld (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Elysion). "Elysium is an obscure and mysterious name that evolved from a designation of a place or person struck by lightning, enelysion, enelysios. Alternately, scholars have also suggested that Greek Elysion may instead derive from the Egyptian term ialu (older iaru), meaning "reeds," with specific reference to the "Reed fields" (Egyptian: sekhet iaru / ialu), a paradisiacal land of plenty where the dead hoped to spend eternity.
The Elysian fields, or sometimes Elysian plains, were the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. Two Homeric passages in particular established for Greeks the nature of the Afterlife: the dreamed apparition of the dead Patroclus in the Iliad and the more daring boundary-breaking visit in Odyssey. Greek traditions concerning funerary ritual were reticent, but the Homeric examples encouraged other heroic visits, in the myth cycles accreted upon Theseus and upon Heracles.
The Elysian Fields lay on the western margin of the earth, by the encircling stream of Oceanus (Odyssey), and there the mortal relatives of the king of the gods were transported, without tasting death, to enjoy an immortality of bliss (Odyssey iv: 563). Lesser spirits were less fortunate: an eerie passage describes the twittering bat-like ghosts of Penelope's slain suitors, led by Hermes
"down the dank moldering paths and past the Ocean's streams they went and past the White Rock and the Sun's Western Gates and past the Land of Dreams, and soon they reached the fields of asphodel where the dead, the burnt-out wraiths of mortals make their home"
In Elysium were fields of the pale liliaceous asphodel, and poplars grew. There stood the gates that led to the house of Ais (in Attic dialect "Hades").
