The Librarians of Valhalla specialize in providing quality reading materials to the Einherjar and those who might one day join them in Odin's Great Hall. Our cape represents Yggdrasil, the World Tree, emblazoned in gold on a field of purple. At Yggdrasil's root lies the great serpent Niddhogg, whose eternal gnawing at the tree's foundation provides a fitting analogy for the everpresent forces of destruction which we battle in Tyria, Cantha, and Elona, and for the newest of our enemies in the North.

2013 update: Time travel being far more involved than we had been led to believe, the guild as a whole has been quiet in present-day Tyria in 2013. Ebihara Shiina, the resident lush of the organization, made it a point to join the recent festivities in Cantha, where she managed to gamble away all of the festival tickets acquired by the entire guild over the course of seven years.

It occurs to several of the guild's officers that we ought to just take care of the Elder dragon problem in the present--since our future incarnations have extensive knowledge and experience to add to the guild library regarding the threat--but some are worried about the so-called Terminator Paradox. If we were to destroy the dragons in the present, the future knowledge of the dragons would not be available to the guild's future members and could not therefore be brought to the present. Without that information we would not stop the dragons in the present, and the future would unfold in the way our future incarnations experienced it before traveling back to tell us about it. Other members simply listen to these discussions, roll their eyes, and return to their adventures. Can't say I blame them....

As the runes which arch above the doorway to Asgard's Library suggest, please vanquish quietly--others may be reading.

Recruitment

Founded in Ascalon almost immediately after the Searing, and with service rather than size as its primary goal, the Guild's membership has never exceeded the current number. Should you see one of the Librarians in a moment of repose and aspire to wear the stunning cape of the Guild, do not hesitate to inquire. We cannot promise that we will be available to assist with quests, but there might be opportunities for quiet chat regarding skills and problem solutions, as well as trade if one of us has acquired something wondrous in her travels.
