From the ashes of Empire of Orr wrought by the Arch Lich a few highly skilled adepts were able to escape. They moved to the lands of Ascalon centuries before the Charr invasion and founded a secret society known only to a few as the “Knights of Balthazar”. This is their tale...

As the original members of the escapees of Orr aged they formed a plan to extend on their unimaginable skills that kept the alive during the hell fire that destroyed Orr. Rather than extending their lives and joining the Lich they sought out the best and brightest of the young into their ranks and trained them. As the escapees of Orr died one by one over the ages their knowledge and power lived on.

Centuries passed and the Knights of Balthazar grew. Every household desired to have at least one child join the society. Not all were able to join. The society took in all those that demonstrated great skill regardless of social standing. Resentment began to grow and the motivations of the Knights of Balthazar were beginning to be questioned. Then the guild wars started.

The Knights of Balthazar took no side and engaged in no battles during the great guild wars. Choosing to fade into the shadows and not kill their brothers. With skills unmatched in Kryta and Ascalon there was no honor in wholesale slaughter. In any case the Knights of Balthazar did not respect the motives behind the wars. Each profession was not treated separately but as an important supporting unit in a great single scheme. Tactics and strategies of the Knights of Balthazar have always been cooperative rather than internally competitive and destructive.

The Knights of Balthazar, unwilling to sacrifice themselves and others in futile battles suffered none the less. As the battles of the Guild Wars raged the households sent fewer children to the Knights of Balthazar as there were fewer children each year surviving. The Knights began to fade from memory of ordinary folks. Some even questioned the existence of the Knights at all. Others began to call them the Shadow Knights of Balthazar. Entirely by coincidence, but true to the name, the Knights of Balthazar traveled largely at night to maintain anonymity. Upon a generation of Knights passing they themselves began to call themselves the Shadow Knights of Balthazar.

Finally, rest reached Ascalon with the cessation of the Guild Wars. The Shadow Knights of Balthazar began to rebuild their ranks. But what few knew was that despite the wars, population pressure, food shortages the Shadow Knights of Balthazar had not suffered too significantly and their numbers were still great.

Many of the newer members would not have been chosen by the noble escapees of Orr as they did not meet their “character standards” but all were true to heart even if some were “rough around the edges.” As an organization the Shadow Knights of Balthazar had adapted to survive without sacrificing its essence.

Twelve years before the searing Satch and Krotos the newest leaders of all guilds in the Shadow Knights of Balthazar knew of the unrest among the Charr. They began to develop a plan to defend Ascalon. Their plan was to form an army made of Shadow Knights of Balthazar and others they could recruit to support the effort. With the power of the Shadow Knights of Balthazar trained generation after generation using the masterful skills from Orr and the bulk force of foot soldier the Charr would be doomed.

The night before the Shadow Knights of Balthazar were to rush into the unprepared Charr the leader of the bulk force Shadow Knight One provided his soldiers with ample supplies of Jack Daniels no. 7. As the army lay in deep slumber a force of evil entered the camp a force more evil than wraiths, demons or devils; more powerful than lich or titan crept upon the unconscious force.

Nobody noticed anything different as they gathered their gear early that next day. Perhaps not “early” by most people’s standards but noon was early enough for Shadow Knight One. Six hours late the force headed off to the Charr. Through the mountains, over lakes and across plains they traveled. But the Charr were not to be seen. The army began to grow weary and soldiers complained about their feet. In particular, they complained about their left feet. One soldier took off his shoe and a small pebble came out. All the soldiers began taking off their left shoes and each had a pebble. That night, the evil that came to them was a group of Garden Gnomes who put a pebble in all the left shoes to make the army’s march off by 1/2 degree. Alas, they were 40 miles from the scene of combat.

At the actual scene of combat Satch and Krotos fought the hordes for hours. The Shadow Knights of Balthazar destroyed wave after wave of Charr. Severely outnumbered, their ranks dwindling they withdrew in tatters. From a force of thousands the Shadow Knights of Balthazar had dwindled to a few dozen.

Satch and Krotos hunted Shadow Knight One for years as Shadow Knight One hunted the loathsome Garden Gnomes. By pure luck they came upon Shadow at the same time Shadow caught a Garden Gnome Gnoble (yes its spelled Gnoble in Garden Gnome language). They watched in disgust as Shadow extracted a terrible perverse and even “unnatural” revenge against the Garden Gnome.

They learned of the Garden Gnome attack and what happened to the bulk army. It is possible Shadow Knight One failed to mention the time they started marching. They all set off to rebuild the Shadow Knights of Balthazar. But first, they had to deal with the Lich. That, is another story.

How often do you play?

Why do you want to join SKOB?

What do you feel you have to offer this guild if you were to join?

We have a powerful alliance. Do you understand that you cannot spam alliance chat and all communication must be representative of SKOB's values?

Do you understand that failing to log in to your account for more than 1 month without posting in the AFK forum may result in you being purged from the guild for inactivity?

What is your MSN, Yahoo, or Xfire messaging name, or what is your email address so we can communicate with you outside of the game?

Tell us a bit about yourself, your family, other hobbies, age, ext. - please do not share personal details, but generalities are fine.

Since our guild thrives because our members care about one another, we utilize Ventrilo as a way of communicating during game play and whenever company is needed. Ventrilo is a free download and is recommended for our members. We can even help you get setup.
