The Clashing Seas[edit]

moved from User_talk:Horrible

The clashing sea is GW1 realted. It is mentioned here User DrogoBoffin sig icon.png Drogo Boffin 16:50, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

As another name for the Unending Ocean and the Great Sea. All three refer to the body of water between tyria and cantha, and there's no evidence to them being separate. The effort to interpret them as such is, as far as I can tell, either fan-driven or a gw2 retcon. In both cases, it does not belong on gww. horrible | contribs 19:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
It belongs because it was mentioned in game as my link shows. I'm not going to say that it deserves it's own page, but it is part of GW1 and should have a place on this wiki. I'm not sure where or how to implement that as I cannot remember the story and all of the lore from that long ago. User DrogoBoffin sig icon.png Drogo Boffin 20:19, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
It's included as a name in the Unending Ocean article. horrible | contribs 20:22, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Unending Ocean is not the same as Clashing Seas. Oceans contain seas. Your argument is like saying "Tyria mentions Ascalon so we don't need the later, delete it has no gw1 relation." Even this edit is wrong, because now it claims that the Unending Ocean is the Clashing Sea. But an ocean != a sea. It is neither fan-driven nor a gw2 retcon, the Clashing Seas is within the Unending Ocean, both reside between Cantha and Tyria/Elona, but are not the same thing just as Ascalon is within Tyria and both reside north of Elona but are not the same thing.
Please revert these changes, they're wrong. 174.131.66.70 20:35, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Konig, you have no evidence to support this position. Also, you're banned. horrible | contribs 20:38, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Also, gw2 never mentions the Clashing Seas/Great Sea. 174.131.66.70 20:40, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
The article Drogo linked does imply that the clashing seas are a component of the unending ocean, which could be grounds for a separate article. EagleRetina (talk) 20:46, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
It implies no such thing. Jiaju refers to other known areas (Ring of Fire, Crystal Desert) by names that don't quite match up with the official ones. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, it would be exceedingly odd for her to refer to one area correctly by name, and two by allusion in the same sentence. horrible | contribs 20:48, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Aside from how oceans aren't seas, there's also Master Togo's line during Minister Cho's Estate, calling it the Great Sea, which has no poetic descriptions over terms. 174.131.66.70 20:55, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
On the question of whether there is "Great Sea" that refers to the part of the Unending Ocean which separates Tyria and Cantha (the alternative being that the "Great Sea" is simply an alternative name for the Unending Ocean used by some Canthans)...I don't know if there's enough evidence either way for what is meant by "Great Sea". I also don't know what the default assumption would be. While I'm sure there is a super pedantic difference between the sea and the ocean, we all know that they're often used interchangeably.
On the question of whether "Clashing Seas" specifically is a name for the Great Sea, whether or not "Great Sea" in Master Togo's dialogue also refers to the Unending Ocean...I think there is no evidence for this. The only reference is an NPC who mentions "the clashing seas" (lowercase) along with descriptions of other regions in GW1. It seems to me as though she's describing the region, not naming it.
