Talk:True Bosses

I'm not sure I like this term, particularly since many of these "True Bosses" can't be defined as a Boss. I've also never heard it before. HeWhoIsPale 18:36, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Also you don't technically have to kill the Henge Guardian to advance the story, you can skip that mission and go straight to the Henge of Denravi. --Rainith 18:41, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
hmmm I dont really mind the mind name but I havent heard this name be used anywhere before either. I think maybe it would be more sensible if the article was renamed to "Primary Bosses" or something along those lines.--File:User Wacked 1 Link Sprite.gif Wacked 1 18:44, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
With one tiny problem: these guys aren't bosses at all! Shiro, the Lich, Kuunavang, Varesh, Abaddon, (where's Glint), they're not bosses at all, they're just special monsters.
I as well am not sure I like this page, this division is too arbitrary. There's plenty of non-boss special monsters in the game, and I can't accept "which are required to be killed to advance further into the game" as a justification, because then you'd have to include even all Facets of Glint, Coventina the Matron, all bosses in Gate of Desolation, etc etc. --Dirigible 19:07, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
I also dislike this page. I have never heard the term used before, and it sounds really dumb. Also, as someone said above, many of these aren't even Bosses.~ Kailianna Firesoul 19:13, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

If/when this page is removed, all references made to it (in each of the linked pages) should also be removed. Personally, I don't like that line on each of the bosses in question. Using the argument "you have to kill them to get through the game," you could add about a hundred other "bosses" (like every Forgotten boss in Thirsty River, Dorien, that stone summit guy in THK, every Facet in Dragon's Lair, etc) and the list would be just as pointless. There are tons of enemies you need to kill to beat the game - so what? ~ Kailianna Firesoul 19:18, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Ok, by advancing in the storyline, that means you do all Missions, not skip any. Glint is not a True Boss but is only fought for the bonus of a Mission. Shiro, The Lich, Kuunavang, Varesh & Abbadon ARE all bosses. They are extremely powerful and are therefore bosses. Dirigible, this is just a new article, I haven't all the bosses on the top of my head, therefore, feel free to add them.
Shiro, the Lich, Kuunavang, Varesh and Abbadon are not bosses according to the game engine. Just the way Glint is not a boss, try using a Signet of Capture after killing Glint. You will get the message that you must stand next to a dead BOSS in order to use that. --Rainith 19:31, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Except most of these aren't Bosses, they're certainly powerful and in any other game they'd be a boss, but Guild Wars has specific connotations to what a "Boss" means. Does Shiro's have an aura? Does Varesh Ossa give me a Morale Boost? Can I cap skills from the Lich Lord? HeWhoIsPale 19:33, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

Pfft, you guys are to technical. Bosses are basically really hard enemys. You can't capture skills from some enemys because the fact is, they have no skills.--Eloc 19:35, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
Even if a boss has no skills to capture, if they are a true boss, an SoC will work on them. --Rainith 19:42, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
Then just change the name of the article...--Eloc 19:49, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
To what? Both your current criteria are invalid. 1) They're not bosses. 2) There's plenty of other creatures that you need to kill before you can finish the campaigns. If we change both of those, what're we left with? --Dirigible 19:54, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
I dunno, think of a name.--Eloc 19:55, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
List of frequently mis-spelled characters? Abbadon = Abaddon ;) --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 20:59, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
If the Lich Lord, Shiro Tagachi and Abbadon arent bosses, then what are they. Huh punk? lol, but seriously User The Boss bomb.jpg The Boss 14:46, 29 April 2007 (EDT)
Ya, if they aren't bosses then that means that they are normal enemies, but they are stronger than bosses, so they can't be normal enemys.--Eloc 16:02, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

Deleted[edit]

I removed this article as it has several problems: a) The article is incorrect as those foes are not bosses according to the game's definition. b) The naming implies that regular bosses are NOT bosses. Also a wrong implication. c) The naming criteria seems fairly arbitrary.

I would suggest IF we are going to have a "noun" to describe such foes, that we expend a little more energy understanding WHAT they are and agreeing on who fits there. For example, let's say we'll call them "special monsters" or "powerful foes," I don't see how any criteria we come up with can have the Lich Lord in it, but not Glint or Varesh.

In the mean time, this is arbitrary and misleading. --Karlos 20:22, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I dunno, what about "Required Bosses" since they are required for you to beat the game.--Eloc 22:16, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Required Bosses in English implies they have to be your bosses. And again, the word boss implies they are actual "bosses" with Auras and morale boosts and so forth, many of them are NOT actual bosses. --Karlos 23:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
