One possible team composition for DoA featuring two players and six heroes. One on a paragon running an imbagon build, and the other on a Mesmer running one of three different possible builds - Panic is the preferred option. (Note: This build is entirely for personal use and is not guaranteed to provide results of any kind.)

1. Imbagon

The entire goal of this character is to provide large amounts of damage reduction through spamming "Save Yourselves!" and "There is Nothing to Fear!". A rank of at least 4 in the relative title tracks is preferred for duration reasons. I'm unsure how spammable Save Yourselves is at a 4 second duration.

2. Panic Mesmer

Panic provides a large amount of AoE disruption, paving the way for massive amounts of damage via Wastrel's Worry and Wastrel's Demise. Energy Management is standard Mesmer fair, though specialized for DoA with Lightbringer Signet. Heroes, unfortunately, can't play Wastrel spells well enough without quickly running out of energy, so this is strictly a player build.

Optional:

  • Unnatural Signet for Chaos Storm. While the damage on Chaos Storm is much more significant than the damage from Unnatural Signet, it can cause scatter among grouped foes, reducing the effectiveness of the rest of the build.

3. Psychic Instability Mesmer

Psychic Instability provides a spammable, AoE knockdown, synergizing well with other Mesmer skills and providing a good amount of CC on grouped mobs. That said, heroes don't tend to play it particularly well - not spamming it on CD - and humans can't reliably interrupt, so this build is probably the weakest link among the Mesmer builds.

Optional:

  • Put something that the team is lacking here, such as Edge of Extinction or a rez skill.
  • Overload for another AoE damage spell like Chaos Storm. This carries the same problems as listed above.
  • "Fall Back!" for movement boost between or away from fights. Disable and micro for optimal effect and to save on energy during combat.
  • Hex Eater Signet for additional hex removal and some energy management.

4. Shared Burden Mesmer

Shared Burden provides significant damage reduction and ease of interrupts. As this is the only Illusion mesmer, the hero also has access to AoE physical disruption spells.

5. Soul Twisting Ritualist

Soul Twisting provides an unlimited stream of protective spirits for the party. Combined with appropriate energy management, and this build is one of the best damage mitigating builds in the game.
