Sigh... Gimmicks[edit]

A lot of people are complaining about the gimmicks. They are right, they are very hard to defeat; individually and especially in a team. Well, here I'm going to inspect some common Gimmicky builds, analyze them, and find counters. I say beforehand: I will not put Team Builds such as Hexway or Mathway here.

Palm Strike FTW?[edit]

OK, what do we have here... we have a maintainable cripple, combined with 8 recharge knockdown, Energy Management and extra damage as the foe is knock-downed, deep wound+bleeding, and when you like decent cheap AoE damage, and lets not forget, a Resurrection Signet. This build, is great. If it wasn't, it would have never become such a huge Meta, that dominates PvP. But, it has such obvious, easy to counter flaws.

  1. Self Heal. This build has no self heals, and as such, relies on the team to heal him. This can be abused by making the healers busy, and doing average damage that every decent team has.
  2. Reliability of 1 skill. This build renders entirely useless without Palm Strike. Since they spam it, it's preety much Diversion or D-shot food, but it's fast cast makes it a little hard. Hard, but still doable (proud to say I once D-shotted Palm Strike).
  3. The unsteady KD. The 3rd skill of this heart-braking skill, requires the target to be crippled. This is of course obtained by Palm Strike, which can maintain the cripple even when the target is Blinded, as it is a Touch Skill (we will get to it later). A good caster always carries a few sets: 1 for E-denial prevention, 1 for it's job to be done, 1 for Dazed, and 1 for Cripple. Yes, Palm Strike can be deadly and the cripple is long, but cut 22% off 4, and it's very less threatening. Whenever I play as a Caster in PvP, and I see a maniac Assassin running towards me with pale eyes and saliva drulling from his ears, I instantly switch to the anti-cripple set. Never leave home without it.
  4. Touch Skillnessness. Tada! Palm Strike, is a Touch Skill! Shocked? Not really, as in the Variants section in the build, theres Dash or Death's Charge. But but but but BUT!! Whats a very good anti-warrior? The wonderful Cripple of course! Cut he's movement by half, and he's horse meat, or bacon, pick whichever you want.
  5. Touching, but still Assassin. I only need 1 word: Blocking. Yes. Even Guardian ("even"). Palm Strike may be touching you, but you can still forget that he has 4 other Attack Skills in his arsenal, which kills you. So it may not render the Assassin completely useless, but it can be a very good anti-Palmer, or in general very good anti-melee.
Alas, we have 5 points of interest of countering this friendly build, that kills you with a grin on it's face. Oh, and you know what else we find here? Look at these points carefully. Reminds you of something? Those are standard anti-melee measures. So before you go QQ to Anet that this build is unstoppable, take a deep breath, and equip your anti-melee build. When you enter PvP, you can laugh your lungs out when you see them crumble and die.

I <3 THUMPERS!!![edit]

The build is here].
Come on! Do you REALLY think this of a threat? Can't you instantly see the 10^5000 counters? I will point out the most simple.

  1. Pets die. Enough said. 4 seconds of Disable at 12 Beast Mastery. You pew pew him a little, and he's bird prey.
  2. He's melee. Say to Thumpers that I said hello when you kill them with Insidious Parasite/Spiteful Spirit/Spoil Victor/Empathy/Visions of Regret/Snare/Blind/Meteor/Fire Magic/Water Magic/Earth Magic/Another melee/Ovens.
  3. All said above. So simple that it hurts.

Visions of Wastrel's Backfiring Empathy[edit]

You've seen this before. I am absolutely sure you did. No need to tell you how annoying it is that you can't do a thing, and when you don't do a thing, you still get damage. Well, it is hard, I agree. They cancel your Holy Veil so you can't remove VoR, and when you remove it with Remove Hex or another Hex Removal, you get 200 damage, and die. I got counters, and you have already seen them aswell.

  1. PnH. Peace and Harmony. Gluck.
  2. Guilt. Happy happy cuddle time when you use it on his Backfire (did it once, he shouted: OMG WHAT HAPPENED TO MY ENERGY????)
  3. Diversion.jpg Slam Your Keyboard With Frustration. Fun fun time.
  4. Power Block.jpg Bane of Elementalists, Mesmers, Necromancers, and God. Happy happy fun fun time again. (If you want the P-block build, try looking in here)

More to come?[edit]
