Reminders[edit]

Please don't put your name in the image; "Image:The Labyrinth.jpg" etc. will suffice. — Skuld 13:51, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

Things I sometimes think about and forget 2 minutes after[edit]

- See if we can collect and gather on a single page some game developers positions about some aspects of the game provided that such informations can be kept on this wiki.
- See if we can get the developers point of view for choosing to keep menzies in the fissure of woe unaffected by the lightbringer title ( beside the fact that this particular area is a core one and that non-nightfall campaigns players should not be disadvantaged )
- Prior to check the 2 points above, see if we can get the following information: are developers allowed to give their personnal opinions on some aspects of the game and wich types of aspects.
- Read my <Things I sometimes think about and forget 2 minutes after> section from time to time.
- Enable the guild wars ingame music to remember what it is like from time to time.
- Ignore my "Enable the guild wars ingame music to remember what it is like from time to time" reminder after I did fight monsters with a music made to help you to fall asleep.

Question on Gaile's page[edit]

Hi, I reverted your deletion of your question. I did this because a) talk pages are not usually subject to deletion like this; b) although there is no answer at present, there may be one in the future; and c) it will stop others from asking the same question again if they see it has already been asked. Hope you understand my reasoning :) User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 16:39, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

Hi. Well, I cannot comment on why the questions weren't answered, only to say that it is policy not to delete any content from Talk pages. See Guild_Wars_Wiki:User_page#User_talk_page_restrictions User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 15:40, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Presumably the questions have been moved to Gaile's archives. As for common sense prevailing over a specific policy - you contradict your earlier statement that policies that are only partially applied cause confusion. But allowing a subjective decision to override a specific policy is what causes such confusion. Policy is called policy because it is just that, as opposed to being a proposal or a guideline. Policy is that you don't delete your own comments from a talk page - if you wish to "remove" the comment you should just strike it out to show it is no longer active/relevant. If you have an issue with a policy, take it to the talk page of that policy. User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 05:09, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
The questions have not been moved to Gaile's archives. The questions have not been moved to Gaile's archives 'presumably' neither.

As for my second point you finally understodd it was ironic. Good, you're fast. Serge Yseron 07:52, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

Okay, let's cut to the car chase - I don't care whether Gaile answered your questions or not. I don't care that you don't like/can't abide by policy. Keep your sarcasm to yourself. User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 09:07, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood[edit]

It seems that since ANet cant control the organic part of the game (players), Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood will never be reliable playgrounds. I tried to get an hint on what Gaile think about this situation but from what I know I will never get a single answer from her on whatever subject I try to discuss with her, even when requesting her personnal opinion. If you try to contact the support for something else than a help on how to place a CD-Rom in your CD-Rom drive you will neither get any answer. After ages you may eventually receive an automated, standard answer from the support. Time to move on another game. Closed. Yseron ( Written more than one year ago ) - Serge Yseron 14:43, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

The Jade Quarry is no more, and so is the problem. Yseron - Serge Yseron 14:43, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Current state of the game ( pve )- Written before the 08/07[edit]

- People dont want to have fun, they want "to get done with it". A new expression have arise: "speedway".
- There are 2 kind of people who say you have the choice to not play ursan: Ursan players and ANet. I am still searching for non ursan players.
- Waiting 4 hours to find a PUG to enter either the fow or the UW is enough. ANet stated that socializing is an important aspect of the game. After a hundred "OMFG you noob go get ursan you fucking biatch" I decided I had enough socialized.
- Despite the fact they consider that Ursan is leet they still want you to equip a consequent set of consumables. Not doing so expose you to suffer more socialization.
- Perma Sins have replaced oby-tanks/master-gear warriors. A new way to gently encourage players to develop tactics.

Questions that come to my mind when observing the current state of the game ( pve )[edit]

I will add them as they come.

- Is "speedway" a response to a content that never change or evolve, or adapt ?
- Do "speedway" players find the content boring or is it the act of collecting that motivate them ? - Or is the HoM thing the cause that urge them "to get done with it" quickly ?

Putting grind to good use for people who dont grind[edit]

Since grind is almost about to get the highest amount of whatever you can get by repeatedly doing the same things over and over again, it made me think of a way to bring grinders and non-grinders together. Non-grinder starve for new content or some surprises from time to time. What if grinders earn the right, after enough grind, to customise skill bars for a boss and the team of this boss. Once this boss grp is setup, each time this grp kill a pve player that is not part of the grinder's alliance, the grinder earn some gold. This NPC grp remain until someone grinded more and earned the right to redesign the grp of foes. On another hand, if the pve player suceed in defeating this boss and its grp, he earn some valuable price. The advantage is while it rewards grinders with greater incomes, grinders also work to offer some elements of surprise to non-grinders, plus a valuable prize. And since grinders love competition evolving around grind, it will allow for a new field to compete in if you want to earn a new source of incomes.

Rules would (roughly) be as follow:
- The grp designed by the grinder must not replace an existing one or it could break elites captures consistency.
- When designing a boss, the grinder must provide an elite, and fill all the skill bar slots. However, it is not in the grinder interest to build a bad boss with bad skills and low attributes investment because he will loose money.
- Only one grp of this kind can be designed by a grinder alliance in a given area. There can be more than one grp of this kind in a given area, but not designed by grinders of the same alliance.

The idea behind all this is to make grinders work for non-grinders, and still satisfy both sides, each feeding itself with the opposite side. Introduced like this it sounds quite flawed because it is opened to exploits, and we are also aware that it will hardly ever be implented in either GW1 or GW2, in whatever fashion we could think of. This was my dream of the day.

Asura Scan[edit]

2 attacks, a dead foe. Asura scan is going to be my new toy for a moment, or at least until the end of my hollidays. Yseron - Serge Yseron 06:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Putting grind to good use: what if wisdom title pts...[edit]

could be also obtained by using appropriate counter-measures or greatly effective skills on foes. Since new players in their early months are the ones who really are in need for items salvaging, it would at the same time encourage them from time to time to take a look at the skills they are using ? It would still be grind, but a kind of more ..."clever" one ? A more "wisdom" related one ?

Recently[edit]

had the opportunity to test ursan + cons in fow / hm. This was ridiculously easy. Yseron - Serge Yseron 01:09, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Things we cant update[edit]

The update of the 7th was a kind of blow. I think it has shaken up things in a good and interesting new way.
But I finaly understood that the main problem in pve comes from us, players. Human behavior hasnt evolved for 2000 years, and the video game industry wont change it. I now understand why the devs once stated that pvp is the shiny futur of GW. It's not that pvp is superior to pve in essence ( althought... ), but you are quickly limited to the bounds of a pve player's mind. GO PVP GW !

PS: I finally have been able to party with 3 different grps for the fow in hm that did not required me to equip barrage. 3 runs, 3 success. My 150dps/single target also seems to make its way in several minds seeing how I have been asked to give my build. The only thing I needed was the opportunity to demonstrate the efficiency of the build. However, if I got new friends I also got new enemies seeing how barragers rage quit in some circumstances Serge Yseron 07:44, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Double 'tards weekend[edit]

Seems like I will have to wait the end of the weekend "event" for the explorable areas to be sane again. For now it is full of people rushing everything in all directions, dying stupidly thinking that the green is for them, and rage quitting if it's not the case. Serge Yseron 13:31, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Because I can[edit]

User Serge Yseron rangers do dmg.jpg
Side note: When you equip heart of the holy flame instead of rebirth (because you have res scrolls) you double the fun on undeads.
Side note 2: My best memories are a menzie monk in hard mode killed in a little less than 4 secondes. After that I never heard again of a particular barrage ranger who wanted 2 of us to ruin their skill bar because he wanted mules to carry his spirits and whatnot. He asked for it.
Side note 3: Please continue to use Ursan because wiki tell you to do so.
Side note 4: I dont like teams made of clones but I let you dream what we can do when there is more than one ranger like me in a team.

Guide to form a party to enter the UW[edit]

You can must form a party by typing this in the party search panel:
. UW SC lfg 3 Terra <-- El/A
. UW sc hm lfg 2 Terra mtn pools <-- El/A
. GLF VALE UW <-- El/A
. Foc lfp uw <-- necros can do tons of things but it has to be foc
. glf mtn pits pools <-- El/A
. Pro chambers lf 5 El/A <-- 5 El/A, call the army, superman and a star destroyer while you are at it
. glf vale sin to go uw sc <-- El/A and A/El or multi areas El/A

Since you cant miss this when you open a party search panel ANet is perfectly aware of the situation.
In other words if you dont have an A/El or El/A, ANet is asking you to go fuck yourself or, if you have something else than these 2 professions in your character slots, to beg for account wide titles because without skills that grant invulnerability, you have some problems with thinking. Yseron - 86.209.197.163 08:06, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Easy survivor title[edit]

- Since non El/A or A/El are denied UW entrance I did get back to DoA to see if a little game I was playing a long time ago was still possible. It still is and the numbers are the same.
- To put it simply If you enter the stygian veile alone and take the bounty you got double xp for killing creatures there. You then effectively gain between 350+ and 450+ xp (normal mode) per creature whithout any scroll.
- The best thing is that you can do it without exposing yourself and with necrotic traversal you can even pick up your loot. But you need ranged attacks because the creatures tend to flee from below when there is now way for them to reach you.
So after looking at the console it appears you can kill 27 creatures per run ( 27 * ~400 = 10.000+xp ). If you got a scroll you can do up to 30.000+xp per run and even more in hard mode. At the end of the day you can hence gain easely several hundreds of thousands xp if you are heavy loaded with scrolls that triple xp.
I hesitate to notice this to ANet because I dont know if it's really an exploit, however since nobody look this page I'll keep it as a log to remind me what to do if I again get bored in the futur. You also earn lightbringer pts wich cant be bad.
- A run takes with the build exposed in the above section named "Because I Can" a little less than one our. So if you are really into it (I dont like that much grind so I wont do it personaly) you can earn 240.000+xp a day with 8 hours/day, plus the loot. Serge Yseron 20:52, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Mozilla 3[edit]

Efficient, secured, thread safe, and tracable memory management have always been an important component of any serious software. Now more than ever before, I am proud to be a Firefox user. May the glory shine over all of you, fellow Mozilla fans, who now have the fastest ( well, ok, Id software memory manager is already 70 times faster than microsoft libs in some circumstances ) and the more stable internet browser of the world with this update. Yseron - Serge Yseron 11:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thing I will maybe work on one of these days[edit]

Remember when Gaile was under heavy fire when she was still a community relations manager ? It gave me the idea to make a drawing with her tanking for ANet against angry players like pve players do in the game. I lack ideas thought, to do so. Or it could be a short comic with a frame per situation, each mentioning a different monk skill and a related common attack she faced while she was at her former position. I will keep this for later or I will try to bug healbot about this. Yseron - 81.251.19.14 19:38, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Forced to line up[edit]

Any area you go they ask for El/A or El/mesmer. The El might well be the class I will play until the release of GW2. Hope I wont be forced to play only El/A or El/mesmer in GW2 too. Yseron - Serge Yseron 09:58, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

About the interview of Cartman linked on gw guru[edit]

2 things buged me:

1- When asked why shadow form was made so strong he answer with the history of the skill nerfs and buffs. Does not answer the question.
2- He said they truly didnt foresee the grind involved in titles for EoTN.

I suppose we will never know the truth about those... Yseron - Serge Yseron 20:22, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Hooray[edit]

The last game I have worked on has been submited for aproval at Nintendo. The first european previews are quite amazing, I must admit I wasnt expecting such favorable comments. I may post more materials about it ( title and links to videos ) depending on how well the game will be perceived on release. But more importantly I might get ( or not ) the necessary authorisations to expose the source code of the memory manager that I wrote for this title. Yseron - Serge Yseron 16:51, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Added a resources queue in the engine on top of my threaded streaming system, we might be able to go round some limitations we came across for futur titles. Reserved buffers and memory pools should prevent memory fragmentation due to never-ending asynchronous landscapes loading but are limited to blocks aligned in both size and adr on 4bytes. Hope I will be able to also post that once the NDA will have expired. Yseron - Serge Yseron 19:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Moto Racer(tm) on Nintendo DS have been approved. However there are parts of the code that we could have improved since bytes access can take up to 2 instructions depending on the compiler options. A lot of stuff also have been made more modulus friendly by using exclusively powers of two wich enable the use of only one bitwise operator "&" and an integer substraction in place of the usual ARM9 40 cycles integer division. Yseron - Serge Yseron 17:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Our game have been noted 8/10 in the Nintendo magazine (by the way a big thank to the engineers at Nintendo, those guys could turn a simple toaster into a uber calculator). Special thoughts to Sylvain from Lucas Film who like simplicity and effectiveness. The release date is ...still confidential - Serge Yseron 10:48, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

- Heros can handle it
- Next time you kick me saying "Omg look at his skills. Nub!" dont forget to choose the right chanel if you dont want me to know that your party of 8 roxors didnt make it past rastigan.

ArenaNet relationships[edit]

2008/09/09 - Did reach 9 quests out of 11 with my 4 men team. This is a extraordinary stressing especialy with the ai and map bugs but I'm getting closer. Shared burden will make the difference for my next attempt. If I had killed the last shadow overlord in the burning forest ( in the end we were only 2 and I left gwen far behind so i was on my own for the first 3 overlords ) the only remaing quest was the shard wolves wich is very easy. Found on the site of another game[edit]

Perfect world (linked from crossing tyria):
"During the Character Creation process the user gets a unique opportunity to create a character to his or her taste. With countless variations available the user can customize almost every feature of the character. From the body to the face the user can tailor the character to match their own ideal image.

Once a user has entered the character customization page he or she can also use a unique feature known as the reference picture. In this mode the user can upload images into the client and have them displayed on the character customization screen to better assist them in duplicating the image. Even after creating the character the user has up to 2 days to continue to modify the character. So after you play it for awhile and decided to change a feature you still can.

Once you have completed your character design simply click on “Done” on the appropriate pages and your character will be created. Also make sure when naming your character make sure to choose an appropriate name. Names that are deemed inappropriate will need to be changed."

Other minor pros are:
- Auction house
- Players shops

Unfortunately for me, the other characteristics of this game will make me stick with guildwars for a little longer. Yseron - 90.27.128.86 16:11, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
