Problem[edit]
There has recently been some controversy about players who sell "exclusive" contest rewards, like the Everlasting Henchman Tonics, Miniature Mad King's Guard, and many other older rewards. These items are extremely rare and are meant as a special reward for something. Many players argue that these items should not be tradeable, but stay in the account that acquired them in the first place. The reward is not meant to make the winner into a mill/billionaire via trading for stacks of ectoplasm and armbraces, it is simply meant to be exclusive and special.
Suggested Solution[edit]
I suggest making these rare items into /bonus
special command items, such as the Igneous Summoning Stone, for example. These items are customized upon spawn, and cannot be traded or dropped.
Furthermore, this would give an extra convenience benefit of being able to spawn a copy for each character on the winner's account instead of having to pass the item through storage every time when switching characters. It can also be destroyed to save space when needed (or by accident) and respawned again, so it cannot be lost for the life of the account. As a side-note, this implementation would also mean that they cannot be stolen in cases of account hacks. This way, the winner gets to keep their special reward forever, and cannot trade it to become instantly rich instead, while caving into the greed of players with lots of money.
Considering that the /bonus
command already has quite a few items tied to it, it now requires a lot of free inventory space to be able to spawn them all, if multiple bonuses are tied to the account. This also adds the annoyance of having to destroy each of the other bonus items if all you wanted to spawn was the special reward. Thus it would make more sense to make a similar command, such as /reward
, which would only spawn special reward items, and work exactly the same as /bonus
in all other regards.
GW2[edit]
I made essentially the same suggestion for GW2 at Binding exclusive rewards to the account.
