Semi-Impossible?[edit]

I'm sorry that this is off topic, but I've tried this like 10 times both with henchies and PuGs (who were fairly intelligent actually), and always get destroyed by the final stone guardians. Does anybody have any tips for taking down these guys? Also, I'm not sure if the tip on pulling some of them before they join the boss is of real use. It seems pretty hard to do this, I think there is a script set in to order them to move to the boss's position. Every 2 seconds or so, they will stop coming after you and fall back. Are you talking about hard mode? The standard mode is fairly simple (coming from someone who's rubbish at the game!) but I can see the stony freaks being a royal pain in HM --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 21:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
The only problem I ever had trying to do this mission, was with Danika. She gets herself killed very easily, she often gets stuck, or just stands there and gets pummeled by the final group. It can be frustrating, but when you know what you're doing, it's not too much of a problem. If you try hard enough, you should be able to pull most of the monsters in the final group individually. Keep the urn near the back, and make sure Danika isn't following you up. Easily doable with heroes/hench, and I won't pretend to be an expert at the game :p172.212.27.253 19:26, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Easy Mission[edit]

If this mission was so easy, please enlighten us all as to why it was so easy for you to do. - Prince Karak --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.233.245.18 (talk) at 01:38, 9 September 2007 (UTC).

lol i just did it H/H in hm, my party wiped on the last group. me and the npc killed the stone judge and i defended long enough to finish the mission masters. was a warrior, 75% block made the difference --81.90.22.60 11:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

---I just did it (drunk as hell...) in 20:09...in NM. This is a cake walk. I'm a Paragon with "Incoming" and "Fall Back" We run EVERYWHERE! Koss is Sword, Olias is Death. Yes, it took a few seconds for Danika to get to the door, but not a real issue. Dunks as a healer, Tahlkora as protection, Gwen as an amazing interrupter, A Communing Ritualist, and Vekk as fire. I went South because I wanted that sweet Vamperic Spirit. Now, I need to do this with a Necro because that skill doesn't apply to everyone. DAMMIT!

Arborstone Notes[edit]

If Arbor is Latin for "Stone" then it would it Be StoneStone not Stone Tree. But really arbor is defined as follows.Ifive 13:36, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

ar·bor (är′bər)

noun
1.a place shaded by trees or shrubs or, esp., by vines on a latticework; bower
2.Obsolete
a garden or lawn
an orchard

ar·bor (är′bər)

noun
Bot. a tree, in contrast to a shrub

Hey! Arbor is not just a Latin word, it's English too! There is no need for that note. MithranArkanere 19:00, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Difficulties[edit]

This mission can be made a lot easier by the following: Appropriate use of the urn. - Have whoever is holding it in the fight so they actually take enough damage to charge it fast - puller comes to mind. Don't give in to the temptation to put it on a backline caster - or if it must be on a backline caster, have that caster step up and take some damage. - Try to drop it when as much of the group as possible is gathered around the bearer, as otherwise the bearer will have trouble going through his or her damage absorption while the rest of the group might be dying due to lack of immunity.

Skill selection - Forget anything that casts at 2 seconds or slower unless you're a Mesmer. Be prepared for the rocks, don't bring builds dependant on tricks that break down if those tricks are interrupted. Wait until AFTER a rockshower to start casting any possibly slow skills you might have.

Chose the right path for your group. If you're, say, running a few MMs, than you quite possibly shouldn't go through the middle - the minions will make sneaking past the groups in the main cathedral difficult, and probably do some crazy aggroing. The same could be said of henchies or heroes.

The mission really is by no means difficult if you think about the environmental risks and build to avoid them in the first place.

As for taking down the boss group - remember that you only actually need to kill the boss. If you take the path through the dredge, you can attack him from the door, and Danika will open the gate quicker. :p

HM Times for Master[edit]

Are the NM and HM completion times the same? I completed the mission in HM in 18:35 for Master Reward. --Arduinna talk 15:53, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Don't know, but I got HM Masters in 23 minutes.--Emberlights 17:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I did HM Masters in 17:49 just now with a modified Discordway team (7 heroes). Astralphoenix777 07:46, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

HM[edit]

Rts near start are level 25. Mesmers are level 26. Warriors are level 26. Rangers are level 26 and the rts inside cathedral are 26 also. Will add to main page after --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 15:01, 4 August 2008 (UTC) apologies forgot to log in.

Why is middle route recommended?[edit]

I've done this mission several times now and agree that the southernmost route is the most difficult due to the drege but I think the center route is almost as difficult because of the large number of wardens in the area at the bottom of the stairs just before you get to Stone Judge.

I found that the northernmost path is actually the most manageable. It may be a longer path but it's easier to pull the various undergrowths and control aggro.

So far after several attempts, I've never done this successfully via the southern route, completed it once (but gotten further) on the center route, and have completed it several times on the northern route.

What is everyone else's experience? Luke1138 13:44, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

The centre path is recommended due to it being the shortest length, you can lure most to you away from multiple mobs, dropping the urn in safe areas for Danika. Shortest = easier = masters ... any questions? :) --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 21:22, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Personally I tend to take the path filled with Dredge, I think they are easy foes and the end sits conveniently near the door so you can get Danike there fast to open it. Did it in HM with H&H in 26 minutes. -- Nox Coma 00:58, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
I suppose you should take the North route if your party is packed with fire damage as plants are weak against that Jeree95 13:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Until now I didn't even know there were 3 routes. I've done the mission at least 5 times (always NM) and always took the southern route. I know it's NM but I never had much trouble with it, only the group at the end. 109.151.89.145 09:17, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Danika[edit]

After you pick up the urn, be sure to wait untill Danika follows you. More than I care to remember has she just stayed there while I was off fighting to the end. Then after you figure out where she is, she takes a different route then you did, and she dies because that route still has mobs. NPC's suck. I can't even remember how many times NPC's have screwed up a mission or quest because they do stupid things. Just a note to remember. Sjeng talk 16:17, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Also some extra info on Danika, don't take a MM on this mission, if you do she'll spend all her time healing the minions and you'll never get the cathedral doors open. Shame really because a MM would be amazingly useful.--Whisperwind 11:36, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
MM work fine. Just flag the MM where you want Danika to go and she'll open the doors when her spells need to recharge. 64.30.95.118 02:06, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I just had her get stuck on the stairs in the center. No enemies around her, I was carrying urn the whole time, just stood there doing nothing. Couldn't get her to budge and had to restart. Bug? --SunJinyu 02:55, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

The pathfinding on this mission is foul. On HM just now: cleared the northern route in no time with a modified 7-hero Discordway team, only to find that Danika was still back the start. Went back; took me several minutes just to get her to move off the stairs. At this point she promptly decided to run at full pelt straight through the Wardens down the middle path and get herself killed. The programming on this mission is definitely not one of ANet's finest hours. Astralphoenix777 07:22, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

I actually just had the same bug, wherein Dani decided to hang out in the main room. I took the north path and was really displeased when she ran ahead down the middle. That said, she didn't die. She didn't even take damage except for the Ceiling Collapse. I let her go ahead until her name was greyed out, then went back along the north path with the 2 heroes that survived the final encounter. She was already there by the time we got there and had the door mostly opened. Got Masters in HM by less than 2 minutes. Tancred Spitfire (talk) 02:06, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Faction Reward[edit]

Quote: 1 You can only earn the faction reward the first time you complete the mission at a certain level in either mode, you will not earn faction for completing it in the other mode. That is simply not true. I just received 3x1000 faction for mastering it in HM and I'm already Protector of Cantha. Manassas 20:56, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed. I gained faction for completion of both this mission and The Eternal Grove in HM after achieving Protector of Cantha. Athena Dominus 05:57, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
If you completed the mission in NM before the Nov 13 update for the Protector title, this would be reasonable and the note still be true. The update notes explicitely state that "this is a one time only reward." --User Ring sig.png Ring 01:45, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Recently completed this mission for the first time with my Prophecies character, I got it on masters on the first attempt (Normal Mode), and got 3x1000 faction reward. Needs to be confirmed and main page updated. Josestefan 08:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

The same happened for me, but I think that's supposed to happen. The "You will also get 1000 Kurzick faction points upon completion of this mission, regardless of time taken or mode completed." seems to be an (updated) relic from before the update mentioned above, which I'm going to remove... --User Ring sig.png Ring 01:45, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Energy Bug[edit]

During the last part of the mission, I (necromancer) couldn't use any energy skills when holding the urn. My energy was full, and I tried spells costing from 5 to 15 energy, but an error message said that I had too little energy. Paddymew 08:21, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

This tends to happen with almost any bundle/item spell in the game, I think the reason is energy mods on weapons Jeree95 13:44, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Zaishen Mission Bug[edit]

I was doing the Zaishen Mission when I used Song of Concentration in order to prevent Danika from being interrupted. However, although my party died and it said I failed the mission, Danika completed the Blood of Zu Heltzer spell and my Zaishen Arborstone Mission was updated for completion (except the time, either I took too long or that doesn't count if the party dies). URN[edit]

Just completed Misson without the URN. FYI --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.233.11.100 (talk) at 19:17, 28 February 2010 (UTC).

Yeah, I did that. I (W/R in an H/H group) picked it up, then wandered around dropping it periodically so I could attack (silly me, I didn't bring a spell-caster secondary...). I dropped it for the final fight before Danika opened the door, then didn't pick it up again. It was fun watching my character standing there empty-handed in the cinematic, babbling about how we had retrieved the urn... I crushed the mission, though, no problem at all. Cynique 16:25, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Locked Chest[edit]

Killed all the stone guys at end and a chest poped up. Danika literally got stuck between this chest and a rock (rock and a hard spot hehe). Fortunetly she backed off it within 30sec but it had me scared. 23:41 HM, lots of deaths though, damned bip livia ;-) 150 Zcoins... Justice 07:07, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

S'truth! This sort of stuff has me both LOLing and cussing when the little weenies that get stopped cold by such trivialities. "Gadz! No, no! Not...a chest!!! Just leave me behind...save yourselves! There's no way out for me...I'm done for! So long cruel world...ya got me this time with your infinite cleverness and guile..." Oookay. Kruhljak (talk) 11:54, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Using the faction points from this[edit]

On your first run through the game, this is likely where you get your first faction reward. Problem is, this is immediately followed by the Boreas Seabed mission which gives you faction for the opposing side. And at this stage, you won't have access to a Bureaucrat to spend the Kurzick points before doing the Luxon mission. Basically, one of these rewards will be wasted. Short of being able to join a Kurzick-allied guild with a hall and Kurzick NPC, is there any way to make use of the faction reward you earn here? 76.253.0.17 08:11, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Four points. One: A Lux guild with a guildhall works too. Just join AB, talk to the "Shady Luxon" to go over to the Kurz side, and see the Kurzick Bureaucrat there. Two: You don't hafta join said guild, being guested works fine. Three: If you have a PvP-only character, you can switch over to them and (I believe) they should be able to go to Jade Quarry or Fort Aspenwood. Four: Whether you'd want to in the first place really depends whether you consider 3 passage scrolls better than a 3k headstart on Befriending the Kurzicks (since you can't buy skills until rank 1 in the title, and I assume such a first-timer isn't going to farm an extra 2k before Boreas just to buy an amber chunk). - Tanetris 08:53, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
I've confirmed that a PvP character can be used as a workaround, so thanks for that idea. Unless I've misunderstood the game progression, I can choose to run with the Luxons first in which case faction earned from Boreas Seabed will similarly give a headstart on befriending their side (or it'll be wasted if befriending the Kurzicks first). In either case, the only way to not waste 1-3k faction is to transfer out the points gained from this mission before starting Boreas Seabed. 76.253.0.17 09:53, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
I am one such first-timer, and would encourage others to farm the extra 2k faction. I just tried Altrumm Ruins for the first time, and even though I was wandering around lost and not knowing what I was doing, I still somehow managed to pick up 1.7k in 13 min (since I ran out of time killing the last boss). 67.80.218.38 10:41, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Text sequence bug[edit]

For some reason Danika's text didn't prompt right after I picked up the urn, thus she stayed still and was stuck there. It wasnt until the end where I realized she wasnt with me that I ventured back to the urn, and it triggered her "protect me so I can open the exit doors" lines and she just suicidally ran up the mid (I cleared left instead) she died of course. Should this be included as a bug, to make sure she finishes her lines about the urn before progressing to clear a path otherwise she will rush the middle to get to the exit door to try to open it? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.253.181.235 (talk) at 12:55, 27 July 2011 (UTC).

How do i get to North of this outpost?[edit]

Trying to map Cantha. How do I get to a big spot north of the outpost? Also there's a spot the west I can find a path to. Ramei Arashi 05:23, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

You can get a suprisingly large chunk of map just by exploring the Arborstone (mission) outpost, but I suspect you'll have to explore the river below it too.. to get here you need to head west out of Altrumn Ruins (in Arborstone (explorable)) - and basically follow the left wall all the way around until you get to the top. (Excluding the area you access from Tanglewood, the north bit following the river is accessable from the northwest corner.)
Alternatively if you want to be "shown" the path you can pm me in-game. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 10:02, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Bugs[edit]

How is this a bug? Sounds like regular AI behavior... even players make this mistake...
