For Cannon Fodder[edit]

You can use Life and Destruction for cannon fodder, since they have the lowest Tango-recharge-darker.png, Life's Tango-recharge-darker.png is 20, Destruction'sTango-recharge-darker.png is 15. Anyone got any other/better ideas or this is it?--ShadowFog 17:57, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Well with this skill, Anguished Was Lingwah, Gaze of Fury, Bloodsong, and another spirit(shadowsong, Dissonance, or Vampirism) and alittle prep before hand, i can have 3-4 spirit on the field before the other person get off one,

before going into battle cast bloodsong, soul twist it, cast AwL, going into battle, drop AWL and cast blood(should have recharge by then) and GoF it and cast blood again, recast AwL to have as a back up, should have 3 spirits up now with in 4-6 sec into the battle, you can cast the 4 forth spirit now, get painfull bonds in and you got pressure from 4 spirit right off the bat, after that is all about maintaining those spirits, have spirit siphon for energy management, and i personally use Feast of Souls for a nice spike heal to all party members,

A few other tricks that can be done with this is if there an enemy spirit on the field that need to go away, i cast GoF on it and soul twist right away, this can be useful if there are many enemy spirits out, and you have a twisted soul already, you can get rid of many spirit possibly as soon as he summons them,

one more trick is that if your the target of a melee, have AwL up, but dont have soul twisting up, i drop it, the melee will either go around it, giving you some time, or attack it(which is better), then you twist it, then cast shadowsong to blind the them(if its not up already), and then my other spirits( if they are not up) PB him and watch me go away, this can work with caster and dissonance, if you want to spend the energy on it, in pve i usually bring Vampirism cause its cheaper and faster cast on it,

Anyways this is just one build, that this can be use for, personally this is my favorite skill for the rit, and use it in healing build that have spirits just because i can have Recuperation out all the time, or at least until my energy runs out :P, hope these idea help--Metal Sazz 17:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Is it worth to use it? If yes, send a build on PVx ^^ 88.141.145.39 19:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
There are far better ways to play Guild Wars than PvXwiki. --Kheraz Zarahi 17:47, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Pretty good if you use it on some spirit before restoration. Fast cast res, then destroy it with something. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 21:45, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

That's all we need, a mass Resurrect... Doesn't anyone realize that Resurrect is bad? You just die again, most times, very quickly, and this skill just does it to your entire party. What good is an Elementalist with 0 energy?-- euphoracle | talk 21:31, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
+1 for being one of the few that realize the horribleness that is Resurrect. When I see a person in my group that pings a build with resurrect, I kick them.--Alsin 06:08, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

The spirit buff[edit]

Makes this very much obsolete in PvE. Better off taking Rit Lord since the cast times have been changed. How 'bout a lil buff? lol power creep. -- euphoracle | talk 23:21, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

What kind of buff can this skill get I wonder...--Bive 23:24, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

"Destroy target Allied Spirit, the next spirit you cast has it's max Health increased by the amount of Health that the destroyed Spirit had, and damage dealt to target spirit is decreased by 25%, this spell cannot be used to increase health more than once." 67.83.118.42 06:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that it should change it to recharges 66% faster...in PvE at least Zachariah Zuan. 18:58, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
I think I prefer the 100% faster it is now.
Make it into a hex maybe. Like an Elite Version of Painful Bond that only hexes one foe and when the Foe dies the ritualist spawns a level x Spirit of soul at his location, Attacks Deal X damage and lasts for maybe x seconds. I only suggest this for PvE though.--Yozuk 07:01, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
I like that idea a lot..seems logical with the name, and not overpowered. ПALANA 23:01, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Feb 25 Update[edit]

Is it just me, or is this amazingly strong now? Seems like it might make Communing rits actually feasible. Certainly blows Ritual Lord out of the water... Arshay Duskbrow 06:40, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Hero AI blows for this. Xandra will spam all the skills on her bar and then this very last. Even placed it on the far left. Thinking it may have something to do with old skill ai but even that doesnt quite fit since i dont recall heros using that at all. Justice 19:24, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Displacement spamming, anyone? 141.165.170.61 23:49, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Funny but i was under the impression that heros were setup to place higher emphasis on skills from left to right. Not saying heros wont use UA if its placed on the far right imediatly since i know my tahlkora does. That being said, xandra will literally use every skill on her bar and this very last...perfectly consistently. Justice 19:13, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
More automated gameplay to make the noobie-entitlement crowd happy! What a great bunch of people the GW2 community is gonna have!! I hope that A-net adds a fully automated play feature so that we can all achieve our goals without having to do pesky stuff like playing the game or reading skill descriptions or being at the keyboard! How cleverly will heroes use this?[edit]

Based on how I've seen my heroes use ritual lord, I'd like to know how they treat this skill before I go out and cap it. With ritual lord, I've noticed Xandra will always always always use a binding ritual first and then ritual lord. Ergo, all the binding rituals used except for the first are affected. Also ritual lord is the last thing used in a battle, and can often run out before the next, so it's still on recharge while she spams all her spirits. She will also Boon of Creation or Armor of Unfeeling if it is up. So for Soul Twisting, will Xandra use it before her first spirit? If I make her a shelter spammer, will she be intelligent to know that after using it three times in 10 seconds, if she waits just 5 more, she will be able to use soul twisting again? 90.206.126.236 12:31, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, ok, was a wordy question, but I've tested it now. Heroes will always try to maintain Soul Twisting in or out of battle. If they have a high enough spawning power to use it for 3 binding rituals, and they use only 2 during a battle, they won't renew it to 'refresh' the counter when out of battle. Aside from forcing them to use it when it's available, it doesn't really affect how they summon spirits. Give a hero four spirits or spirits that die rapidly (aka Shelter) and pretty soon they'll end up summoning one without the buff of Soul Twisting. 90.206.126.177 07:27, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

well, they usually try to maintain it in combat too. also, even if they don't twist it, it makes it last twice as long, at least. combine with boon of creation and u can have all spirits be free and maintain prot spam.

well, they usually try to maintain it in combat too. - um, yeah, that's what I said. also, even if they don't twist it, it makes it last twice as long, at least. ~ What on earth are you trying to say? All I can deduce is that you're talking about the skills previous functionality, what the hell is 'it', a spirit? Do you think Soul Twisting makes spirits stronger? I'm confused... 90.198.74.27 09:15, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: instant recharge and disable[edit]

Is this a property of Soul Twisting, PD, or dshot?

  • PD and Dshot are the only two "skill" interrupts that add disable (I think; Complicate might also be)
  • Soul Twisting and Glyph of Renewal are the only skills that cause instant recharge (this may also affect skills that reduce recharge times, though)

Which interrupts affect recharge time in what ways? — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 19:19, 11 Sep 2010 (UTC)

Soul Twisting[edit]

How much energy does a binding ritual have to be for soul twisting to work? I have tested this skill with shadowsong and it still costs 10 energy to cast after I've casted Soul Twisting. I figured it should cost nothing. Am I wrong? Please explain thanx :) - Aspiring Rit

"your Binding Rituals cost 15 less Energy (minimum 10)" Soul Twisting, description  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes I understand this, because Shadowsong costs 15 energy, which is more then the "10 minimum", so the skill should cost nothing. And it does. It's still taking 10 energy. Could you explain why please? Or is this a bug and needing a fix? I guess I don't understand where the "10 minimum" starts from, or if it's worded wrong. Thanx for your swift response :) - Aspiring Rit

What it means is that, after reduction, the skill will only cost 10 energy at the very least. Ergo, with Shadowsong, it's behaving perfectly normally. Zetta 04:41, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see the confusion. There's no minimum reduction; only a minimum energy cost. In the extreme cases, a 100Energy ritual would cost 85 and a 10Energy spirit would still cost 10 (the advantage being: you could recast it right away).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:07, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
