Split from the community page[edit]

Finally, you know as well as I do that RFA's are not polls. In fact, I am geniuinely suprised to hear this from an old pro - Numbers do not count in an RFA, the weight of the arguments of the voters do. I don't think it would be far to say that RFA's are merely PR tools for bureucrats, but that's neither here nor there. Also, what brains said."

Exactly the other way round, check what brains actually said: "Polls = numbered/bulleted arguments and input which provide an (rough) idea on what the community thinks. Votes = purely numbers; the highest is the decision. RfAs and PvX ratings are polls". --Xeeron 21:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not a native speaker of english. To me, (or it used to be) Polls = Votes. Sorry for the mixup, but that's really semantics from now on. -- NUKLEAR User NuclearVII signature 3.jpgIIV 13:19, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Huh o_o Where are you from? Your English is perfect, as far as I can see. Erasculio 13:21, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm turkish. I know on the internet it does't really show, but I have one hell of an accent. In turkish, polls and votes are pretty much the same thing - the language doesn't have the large vocabulary english does - so I use them interchagably. Meh, Happens, I guess. -- NUKLEAR User NuclearVII signature 3.jpgIIV 13:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
That's because English is a retarded language.
A poll, for future reference, is a collection of opinions (generally in the form of votes) used to gain a general idea of an answer to a question. For example, one might take a poll to get an idea of what skin users want the site to have; the poll has no real weight, however, and the results of a poll do not immediately mean action will be taken towards the result it suggests.
A vote is either a cast of the opinion ("my vote is for the blue skin") or a gathering to cast opinions to decide something (similar to the English word "election"). In the latter sense, a single vote has inherent weight, in that the results of the election will be used to determine a course of action.
-- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 13:49, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
English is actually pretty awesome - It 's relativly easy to understand and gibberish english is actually comprehensable (Me tell very very best england).
French is retarded. SOrry if there are any french among here, but damn I hate the language. There are no rules in the french language! Oh sure, you have some, but the exceptions are so goddamn omnipresent that they revoke the rules. Blehhhh.... -- NUKLEAR User NuclearVII signature 3.jpgIIV 14:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I hate English (not a native speaker myself). It sounds like a dog barking. At least it's easy to learn (now try to learn Portuguese...That's a challenge). Erasculio 14:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

NPA[edit]

Abide by it. Your comments on the community portal talk are unacceptable. Leave the speaker out of the argument entirely and focus on the argument itself - if the points are wrong, counter them, but don't bring the poster or his history (or lack thereof) into the debate, because it frankly doesn't matter. "Whoru? What have you done to make the balance pages better? What gives you the right to make baseless accusations on well-estabished users that work for the good of this wiki?" That kind of stuff doesn't belong. If you want to know who he is, ask him on his IP talk page, and do it in a manner that makes it obvious your question isn't related to the discussion on the CP talk (i.e., don't make it seem like you'll ignore his comments if he doesn't give you a detailed history).
Your feedback on that issue is appreciated, but remember to keep it civil. -Auron 02:40, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

On hindsight, you are probably right. I should not have vented the way I did back then. Still... Fine. -- NUKLEAR User NuclearVII signature 3.jpgIIV 13:49, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Meh. I planned to respond earlier today, but a combination of a guild invite/runs and that page being ridiculously long prevented me from getting anything written up.
I don't really like most of the suggestions people made. I don't like picking 4 people as suggestion-filterers, let alone the 4 most mentioned. I, personally, don't understand balance enough to filter out comments and suggestions that Izzy may never read. I have my general idea of how guild wars should be balanced, or rather, how it should be fixed retroactively to make it not suck... but I can't say my opinion is better than anyone else's. I can see what is broken in the meta better than most people who post, since I am more active in high-end PvP than most of them, but being able to see what skills are breaking the game doesn't help me decide which comments/suggestions are useful and should be passed on to Izzy.
I'm not sure about Shard, but I don't think he fully grasps balance either. Most of the changes he puts forth are number tweaks, which are all well and good, but don't do things like fix broken mechanics. I've never had a lot to do with you, but from what I've seen, I don't think you're really up for the task either. Armond, the last somewhat-popular choice, doesn't even play Guild Wars anymore (and hasn't for awhile).
I think the best option would be a community-driven thing. Because of the time constraints, a vote of some sort would be in order. Maybe like 3 days for people to add their suggestion to "the list," then X days of voting on "the list," and the top 10 go to izzy. The process would start over Y days later. It might not get the best options through, but it would be most fair to the community. Izzy's got his private forum for high-end PvPers to comment on balance. Seeing as izzy doesn't post on QQ, guru, gwo or anywhere else, the wiki could be a place for the average player to get his question in to him.
Sorry for wall of texting in the wrong section - you can copypaste whatever you want to whereever it applies. I'm not sure I'll have time this week to get to that discussion (busy day today, surgery on thursday... I'll be out of touch for awhile). -Auron 14:02, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you overestimate the skill required for the job. Mostly, we'd be required to filter out the awful suggestions (like making evisc on par with WS) and get a few good things through to Izzy. By the way, I've recently been forced into doing GvG with friends for lulz, so you can't quite say I don't play anymore. :P -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 14:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you four would do a good job. IMO, it's less a matter of telling Isaiah what to do (everyone will be making suggestions anyway, that's not what the "committee" would have to do) and more a matter of being able to notice the more pressing issues and get the more reasonable suggestions among all the input in those pages. I think there are a lot of people on the wiki reasonable enough to see what's a reasonable suggestion and what isn't; the four individuals I suggested have the advantage of being reasonable and also caring about balance enough. Erasculio 14:15, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
"I can see what is broken in the meta better than most people who post, since I am more active in high-end PvP". See, that's enough. At least, In my book, it is. I would have ensign do balance, but he doesn't care about this wiki of late (Been a year since His last contribution, I'd say) so the next best alternative is a group of lesser people work together.
I have already expressed why I never liked voting. It's not that I believe that people are idiots, nor do I believe they are always biased. Misguided, perhaps, but not even that. To be honest, I don't clearly know why, but I never liked Polls or votes or whatever you may call them. Maybe it's because My enviorment is filled with ignorant idiots. Maybe. But the real reason I wouldn't like voting in this scenario is that, well, voting is slow. We have a lot of crap to shift through - and voting our way is not going to work, at least, in time.
Shard doesn't grasp balance. He's too heavy-handed. I don't grasp balance. I'm too light-handed, too experimental, too outlandish. Armond doesn't play. All of these facts I cannot deny, but I do believe that as a team, we'd work fine together.
I know we didn't have much to do in the future, but I hope that may change (perhaps in gw2, lol). In the meantime, have a pleasant surgery. -- NUKLEAR User NuclearVII signature 3.jpgIIV 14:19, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Why is the wiki[edit]

Extra slow of late? And why am I still banned? 85.108.218.75 08:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Arena Net installed a large upgrade a couple days ago, and that upgrade had some issues, so we have had plenty of downtimes these last days. Theorically it's fixed now. I think you were banned because of this, and you're going to be banned for a week. Although I think you were right in asking Brains (despite how he's likely going to ban your IP now : P). Erasculio 11:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Apparently it's a personal attack to call someone "a qualified ****", even when there's really not much that could be filled in to the blank that the "target" likely won't ever see, just as it's a personal attack to warn someone against what type of person they'll be if they continue to ignore reason... 75.182.89.73 12:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Aw[edit]

come back nuke? Seriously, the Arena Net space is going to be a major mess now. Arena Net is working on an official announcement about the feedback pages (Emily mentioned she made quite a few big meetings about this, and that she and Regina are working on the official statement), so depending on how it goes you may consider coming back; if they state they are more than PR, maybe Isaiah would obey their insight (and if they tell us the section is useless and that we could remove it, you may as well come back temporarily to be part of the lulz : P).

If you don't come back, good luck with your life. Thanks for all the work you did for the wiki (yep, it made a difference; for example, now we know that we can delete most of the feedback stuff without a backlash) and for all the insights you shared with us.

(Oh, and I saw quite a few Freudian slips on your goodbye - "I longer have a reason to be here" hopefully means you'll come back some day : D) Erasculio 22:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
