I suggest we merge all the adjacent, nearby, etc articles into this one. Those articles only have a few line of text and all the pictures are the same. Lightblade 18:43, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Good idea imo. - anja talk 18:44, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it's useless to know what adyacent is if you don't know what nearby is. MithranArkanere 11:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
The very basis of ALL the range descriptions strikes me as being more effort than is needed.
1)The player is expected to learn and remember 7(9) terms: adjacent to target (touch / melee range), adjacent, nearby, in the area (in this location), within earshot, spirit area, party area. Why? We use units for measuring distances in real life, if the distances are important.
2) Two of the terms are the reverse, in scope, of their common usage versions: "There are about 100 shops, cafes and bars in the area". Can I hear them all (earshot range) from my bedroom? No.
3) Defining one distance based on other vague distances is awkward: "This denotes larger than nearby but smaller than earshot." (Here be sarcasm): that's both simple and very clear. Even the experts writing the wiki get confused... the "nearby" description says that melee and adjacent are the same range, but the "adjacent" description says that melee is closer than adjacent.
...so, wouldn't it be (have been) simpler for the skill descriptions to give ranges in units - paces perhaps, for thematic flavour - and also define the aggro bubble in terms of these units (e.g. the aggro bubble's radius is 18 paces), like:
Lightning Touch
Touch Skill. Deals 10...50...60 lightning damage. Also hits foes within 2 paces of target foe. Inflicts blindness (3...7...8 seconds) on any of these foes hexed with Water Magic. 25% armor penetration.
Fear Me!
Shout. Foes within 3 paces lose 1...3...4 Energy.
A lot less learning curve there, simpler descriptions, and less checking the Wiki to see if your skill bar works the way you think it does. Which one here is the easiest for a learning player to get?
a) Shout. Foes within 3 paces lose 1...3...4 Energy.
ooooh kaaay, so the range is heaps less than the aggro bubble.
b) Shout. Nearby foes lose 1...3...4 Energy.
ooooh kaaay, what does "nearby" mean... ah, here it is...
The effective range of Fear Me! is "larger than adjacent but smaller than in the area and is roughly 1/6 the size of your aggro bubble. Its radius is equal to 1.5x adjacent (melee) range"

Aggro Bubble vs. Danger Zone[edit]

Since Aggro Bubble and Danger Zone are terms for the same word, it was a bit confusing to see them both in the same article in different places. I replaced "Danger Zone" with "aggro bubble", since this term seems to be more commonly used. LunarEffect 23:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Within Earshot[edit]

When you use a shout that effects allies 'within earshot' does that include the 'shouter'? Anon

Yes. --Xeeron 13:46, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Unless the shout states "All other Allies withing Earshot" such as the skill "Save Yourselves!". --ChristopherRodrigues 19:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually that's party range not in earshot.. xD →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 00:21, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually, that's earshot range not party.. Dx --76.114.80.153 11:19, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Psst: the time difference here may have put the previous posters you're shouting to, out of earshot | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg (UTC) 14:41, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
That's true, but sometimes people come to talk pages and get incorrect information. I'd rather not overlook a lie just because it's an old lie. --76.114.80.153 18:43, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

They're different things, so desreves their own articles. Backsword 17:42, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

If you mean the Range and Area of Effect articles, then I think they should be merged. There could just be a geneal section in the article to give you the info from the range page. I do think that some of the range information should be kept that is not on AoE.

P.S. I think we should add the picture from Range to the bottom of the page, much clearer than the one on AoE.

--

I don't think these two topics should be merged. Range is talking primarily about rangers and bows. However, AoE is regarding spell areas, such as the difference between adjacent and nearby. They are two separate topics. 24.91.134.57 05:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I also believe that they are two different topics - Range is about weapon (and spell) range. Meaning how close (in a line) you have to be to your target to target with a non-AOE spell or weapon. Area of Effect is specifically about area effecting spells (and weapons too actually, wouldn't the Dwarven Powder Keg count as an AoE weapon - I can drop it and the explosion hurts enemies in some AoE?). Ooom 15:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I believe that if we move the respective Area of Effect and Range notes into the corresponding pages then we'll have a clearer picture of what a merged page will look like. I'll work on this if the addition of a "party" range is not too contraversal.--Pious 07:33, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Agree with merge. Kirenne Starfire [Kw] 18:18, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Party Range[edit]

Should a note be made that party range is the same as maintained enchantment range? I've tested this, and the other party member was just far enough for his name to be greyed out, though not far enough to lose a maintained enchantment. Heal Party, Extinguish, and Breath of The Great Dwarf all affected him. --ChristopherRodrigues 19:59, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Half Ranged[edit]

Which one of these counts as half ranged, Nearby? →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 00:19, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

None of them, it's about 3x longer then Nearby and half as long as earshot range.(Marsc 22:39, 11 August 2008 (UTC))

Please[edit]

Upload another screenshot, this one doesn't help: too little88.141.162.38 13:55, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

We used to have a larger one. Don't know what happened to it. Backsword 14:11, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Party range skills[edit]

someone miscounted the skills, there are at LEAST 6 skills that affect the whole party, four of them in the page "Orders"(there is 5 skills, only 4 has a party effect), plus Heal Party and Light of Deliverence.--81.183.158.100 12:44, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

it's autocalculated based on cat. Some skills may be missing. Just add aoe = party to their infoboxes. Backsword 12:57, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Near[edit]

When the description of a skill, such as Bed of Coals, says "near" does it mean "nearby"? --99.231.153.232 03:00, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Much, much later, yes it does. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg (UTC) 04:15, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Wouldn't Mark of Pain fall into the "Adjacent to Target" catagory?[edit]

?

For that matter, so should Distracting Blow. Its range is identical to scythe range when used with a non scythe weapon. ~Seef II <|۞> 22:03, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
