NOT Silver Armor! :P [[U--Ʀєʟʟɑ 05:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)ser:EMonk|EMonk]] 21:16, 9 February 2007 (PST)

I'm looking forward to EoTN when we get Glod Armor --Jamie (Talk Page) 05:36, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
You mean gold? User Blastedt sig.jpgBLASTEDT 14:31, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
no I mean glod, I am hoping you did get that pun... but glod is a misspelling of gold like sliver is a misspelling of silver... only in this case silver is a misspelling of Sliver. Making a prospective skill for EoTN, Glod Armor... --Jamie (Talk Page) 16:24, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
You just killed that joke. :( --Dirigible 16:30, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
me? --Jamie (Talk Page) 16:32, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
I think a Glod Armor skill would be a fine idea, and a nice self-reference joke. Push it to have it implemented in GW2! Azo 05:26, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

what's sliver?

Slivers... like a shard of wood or metal that gets stuck in your finger and really hurts. Don't ask me how armour made of sliver does anything. Silver armour makes much more sense. =\ Silavor UserSilavorSigIcon.png 07:40, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Seems fairly obvious to me: the "slivers" of earth/metal/whatever are the things that fly out for damage when you're targeted.79.75.3.84 17:16, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Wikitionary (just because it's a wiki too :P) says "A long piece cut or rent off; a sharp, slender fragment; a splinter" so I guess another name would be Splinter Armor ;) Impaled 17:35, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

One problem: if you have armor made of slivers, wouldn't you get hurt more than the enemies? Especially if you got knocked down? Just a little technicality...

I would guess the armor just has slivers sticking out of it, and isn't made out of them... Tearh 22:13, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

i think its supposed to be Slivers of metal etc whirring around you to protect you and harm attackers, like the old Dungeons and dragons "blade barrier" spell

Mabey peple are taking this whole skill a tiny bit to litraly...135.196.81.6 06:40, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME FOR 2 YEARS I JUST NOW NOTICED IT'S SLIVER ARMOR NOT SILVER ARMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My main character is an elementalist too, I also use earth magic a third of the time.--Ʀєʟʟɑ 05:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Slivers of silver swirling around, slashing those stupidly standing so close striking or shooting :P 118.92.98.226 10:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Acquisition[edit]

Can somebody with a virgin account please check the acquisition on this skill - the SoC caps have been deleted due to its early availability. Might be a case of someone who doesn't understand the way skill trainers work. Certainly seems very early for a powerful skill. ME never done teh Ele thang and me gots UAX, so iunno :) --SnogratUser Snograt signature.png 20:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

We need a check like this for a load of skills. And who coined the term 'virgin account'? Great man, whoever did... Calor (t) 20:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
yeah, just lold when i read this. a funny talk page, speaking about glod armors and virgin accounts... —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:37, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bound_Kaichen - according to this article, this boss has it, and it's a Nightfall boss. Seems worthy of a note to me.

How does it work?[edit]

Ok, heres what I get, you have some % to block and when you become the target of a hostile spell, the nearest attacking foe is struck for x damage? "x% chance to block attacks and whenever you are the target of a hostile Spell or..." - after "or" is where I get lost.--ShadowFog 18:33, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Whenever you are the target of a foe's action, one nearby foe takes damage. Also, you have the +50ish% block. Its basically a very advanced form of Whirling Defense.--Fallen (talk) 00:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
If only one nearby foe takes damage. What makes this skill so powerful?--DWFreak 08:59, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Because it chooses a foe and sticks with it (unless that foe moves out of range of SA). The damage doesn't randomly jump around. King Neoterikos 09:31, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

notes[edit]

Rmoved it, its not undertsanble, very harmful to mms as you get a lot of incoming attacks, ???? what do you mean? That if its an it wont target the mm, youl be far away, ittl target minions Annoying And Deadly 19:25, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Exactly, when your minions die you're useless as an MM. Unless you're a bomber but thay suck because of targeting reasons. Ninjas In The Sky 18:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't say that they suck, just that they're more difficult to learn (as you say, it's all about targeting). In capable hands, though, I'd say they're quite good. --SoraMitsukai 04:39, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Any ally of the MM is toast if they're the one that cops the proverbial flak, however. 150.203.19.61 04:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Armor Piercing Damage[edit]

Last time I ran into an enemy using this, it did 30 damage everytime I swung at them on my warrior. Could something in the description say that it deals armor-ignoring earth damage? - Elder Angelus 15:39, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Was it a "monster variant" of sliver armor? According to the guide, the armor SHOULD block about half of the time at level 12. Unless it's actually as you infer- you take damage wether or not your swing lands a blow resulting in damage to the mob or not.
It always returns damage... And it's not armor ignoring. --Viper 13:18, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Was it a boss, or a level 28? That would account for the large quantity of damage. Krelus Derian 19:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

name[edit]

i was looking at the armbrace talk page and found out i have been saying this skills name wrong. sliver not silver! the skill may never be the same--Justice 23:32, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Funny. I always called it Sliver Armor, but that's probably because I first was reminded of these[1]. Paddymew 19:52, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Synergy[edit]

I'm removing the note until someone can explain precisely what kind of specific synergy this has with Ward Against Melee. Krelus Derian 19:36, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah it doesnt exactly come to mind when i think sliver armor. Synergy is when two things mesh together better then the two individual parts add up alone. 1+1=3 ;-) Sliver Armor and Price of Failure have more synergy simply because the blocking of Sliver armor triggers price of failure and the 25%miss on price of failure helps protect you, being that you are the central focus of the monsters for the most dmg output--Justice 08:58, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

note[edit]

possible to keep it up with glyph of renewal...doesnt that apply to any 10second or higher enchant with a 20% mod? keep or remove something so obvious?--Justice 17:25, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Both are elementalist skills. That's why it's mentioned. Noctarch 16:39, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Target[edit]

I notice this almost always targets the foe with lowest % of health. So a creature at 990/1000 hp would be affected and not another creature with 200/200 health. When all are at same percentage a random foe gets chosen. I'm not 100% sure but I found out that damaging the first target almost always helps when farming --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 00:39, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok.. IP (74.166.91.13) just added this:
  • Sliver Armor appears to target the last foe to approach the player using it. For example, if a single enemy approaches, sliver will deal damage to that enemy. However, if another enemy approaches in addition to the first, damage dealt will change to that second approaching enemy.
Could anyone test how it really works? It's an important aspect of the skill. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 11:13, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
From my experience, it seems the game makes a list of monsters in the zone and Sliver Armor targets them in the order in that list. If you get an AoE scatter it will change targets to stay within range, but if any of the previous targets come back it switches immediately back to them. It might be less confusing if they just nerf the damage and make it like a weak version of Whirling Defense so that it hits everything in range instead of picking and choosing. Not saying I want them to nerf it, but this skill is still close to the top of the 'how the heck does this skill really work?' list.Guildwarsrunner 07:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm sure this can be tested easily if you have enough people, a guild hall and a mesmer-elementalist of enchanting ;-) My only problem atm is finding the people. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 13:30, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
It's correct that it targets the last enemy to approach. It's also logical, since each time you are hit, a shard or "sliver" is chopped off your armor, and hits a foe. Paddymew 19:58, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Nerf to not work with shadowform[edit]

I think that this skill should only return damage is the attack is blocked or is hit, NOT if the attack is missed. That way it works with like obsidian armor tanks etc but it doesnt work with shadowform tanks.96.253.144.69 00:54, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

That'd be quite stupid because it'd hurt you if you blinded the attacker (or if he/she did so him/herself) Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 01:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
There's no need to nerf it so that it doesn't work with SF. A/E farmers with SF don't have the energy, damage output or Sliver duration of E/Me farmers, and the majority of farms involve mobs with skills that can circumvent SF.--206.51.177.28 06:27, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
This proposal is not constructive; you shouldn't be trying to attack somebody with Shadowform because no matter how many times you swing your weapon, you will always miss. People who use both Shadowform and Sliver Armor are either wasting their energy or are lucky enough to be attacked by people that ignorant. 216.167.172.160 17:37, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

never know man....theres always one noob who would be like "OMG WHY CANT I HIT HIM!!!! *KEEP SWININGING WEAPON.....DIES* OMG WTF HOW DID I DIE?" noobs come in many different sizes and flavors --Crazyejackson715 01:02, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

the word is PvE

uh to fix that problem, nerf shadow form and voila InfestedHydralisk 16:22, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

The trivia pretty much says, people are too dumb to read. Not sure if anyone needs the trivia cause it should just be common sense that people are dumb. 91.34.114.129 02:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

I don't think so, your eyes can switch the letters on you. :P — PmaN 02:24, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Choice of the victim[edit]

How does the skill actually chose who to target, since it hits only one victim at a time, its not the one with the least health, it actually seems to target the foe with the MOST health. 86.80.183.215 01:56, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

It's the one that entered the range last, or the closest or something like that. Paddymew 02:47, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
That's still on the TO-DO list as research. Currently I believe it takes the target with lowest health percentage first. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 18:59, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
What about the initial targeting, when all enemies are at 100%? Paddymew 22:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
That'd be a good place to random. Or else perhaps one more filter, namely AL, and choose the lowest or highest or whatever, and then random. | 72 User Seventy two Truly Random.jpg (UTC) 23:38, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Just for the research, Sliver Armor will always hit The Scar Eater (boss), many other bosses are glitched like that but I know no others.--Im Irrelevant 15:14, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
When I sliver farmed The Scar Eater a couple of times it didn't always target the boss first. InfestedHydralisk 00:41, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Is it random now? recent update: "Fixed a bug that caused Sliver Armor to always deal damage to the same foe." 60.48.224.111 03:18, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes its random now, i like how they called it "fixed a bug" when its been that way the whole time... more like made a new skill

Yeah, they nerfed it an killed the build. At least now maybe it wont be instant death in Raisu Palace against the boss when this goes up. 58.106.158.34 03:57, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
so basicaly just about every SC has been nerved? Etnys 08:09, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

All farming has to be done officially with Spirit Spamming. All other builds will get nerfed just like ele's are hit now! 91.177.246.118 18:02, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Bwah.. "Before the May 21st, 2010 update, Sliver Armor sometimes targeted one particular foe instead of different random foes. " that might be the case, but the description says that ONE random foe wil get hit every time you are the target of a spell or attack. IMO it did exactly as stated. This nefbatting ruined the skill, in its current form, they could at least lower the recharge on the damn thing, otherwise, its pretty damn useless. ]Flame the Burning[[[Special:Contributions/145.53.249.48|145.53.249.48]] 16:39, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Apart from the fact that you can't farm raptors with sliver armour, this is a benefit imo. If you're tanking with sliver, you can easily get more damage out of it because more enemies will be attacking you for longer, rather than the number of enemies going down over time. Of course, everyone only cares about the farming ~_~ 124.197.0.12 10:09, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually it's almost always better to spike down an opponent, that's mostly why discordway is such a successfull and effective PvE team build (and it ain't a farm). I wonder if Anet honestly changed this because they believed it was a bug - the wording does imply the old function (can be read both ways to be fair), or if they just nerfed it because of their prejudice against farmers >.> With all the nerfs to big skills lately (this, SF, obby flesh, etc.) I'm starting to wonder if they're just trying to fade the community into playing GW2 on-release.K2K 15:02, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Note is a bad example[edit]

"For example, if an assassin uses Death's Charge on an elementalist enchanted with Sliver Armor, the assassin will take damage from Sliver Armor before gaining health from Death's Charge." Does that mean he shadow steps to enemy, then gets hit with sliver, then gets heal? Because that would make it like half-way thru spell.96.251.15.202 08:50, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I made this note a long time ago, because while farming, I noticed that things (Vermin) would use Death's Charge on me as a last resort to heal themselves, but Sliver Armor would kill them before Death's Charge saved them. But now that I think about it, they DID shadow step first, and then take the damage, so "half way" throughout the spell is a good description =P. I think I'll test it some time with a different spell, to see if shadow stepping spells are an exception. Power WMElementalist-tango-icon-200.png 18:53, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Intensity+ Sliver = aoebomb?[edit]

Anyone tested sliver+intensity? double aoe or not? thx. 84.107.73.225 17:29, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

"Skill. For 10 seconds, the next time you deal elemental damage with a spell to a target, you deal 40...50% of that damage to all other nearby foes."
not much of an aoe bomb--BobbyT User Talk: BobbyT 01:38, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Edit: plus you are not targeting anyone with Sliver
So it doesn't work? I mean, sliver is an enchantment spell, and it auto-targets nearby enemies. 84.107.73.225 10:03, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
"Next time you deal elemental damage" refers to the next single packet of damage, not the next source of damage. Only the first strike of Invoke Lightning, the first activation of Sliver Armor, and so on trigger Intensity. Then, it ends, and you get no more benefit. MA Anathe 10:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
misread, yeah just tested just 1x 9dmg from 19sliver. 84.107.73.225 12:04, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
