Copyvio[edit]

I think we had a simmilar discussion about this with the whole Piplup issue. The point being: Can something be released under GFDL if the character design itself is protected by copyright laws? The simmilarities of this image (and thus of Image:User_Eloc_Kirby_with_Elocs_cookie.jpg)) with the "source of inspiration" are too big as to asume it's just "coincidence".

Wikipedia is a good source of background info for explaining this, specially since "fair use" doesn't apply here.--Fighterdoken 21:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

He got it off of Wikipedia. Can't we use images from Wikipedia? — Eloc 21:41, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Only those that were released as GFDL, PD, or a simmilar license there. Remember that wikipedia allows the use of images under the Fair Use act, something this wiki doesn't.--Fighterdoken 21:43, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
it's fair use. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 21:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
From Emily's archive: PvX wiki logo - copyright question--Fighterdoken 21:57, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

i'd say i upload another one and someone can delete the old version then. - Y0_ich_halt User Y0 ich halt sig.jpg 22:01, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Unrelated topic is related. Quoting Emily: "As far as fair use images go, we're not able to host non-Guild Wars fair use content on the site because of the GFDL license. Since this is a Guild Wars wiki and we're obviously not going to have issues with our own content being posted, GW stuff can be posted (like we currently do with screenshots, renders, etc). However, we can't have content from other games and other sources posted to the site because the licenses don't match up." --Fighterdoken 22:03, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
