Admin noticeboard
Article maintenance

The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, consider the following:

  • As this is a noticeboard and not a talk page, please refrain from discussing.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comments instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made if a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

Creating a new request — vandals
  1. Edit the Vandal issues section.
  2. At the top of the list, use the {{vandal|IP address or username here}} template. Provide a short and neutral summary of the issue.
Creating a new request — non-vandal cases (e.g. user issues, page protection/undeletion, etc.)
  1. Add a new section (+) to the page and enter an appropriate title (without using templates or links) in the subject field.
  2. In the edit field, enter a short and neutral summary of the issue. Use the {{user|ip address or username here}} template to refer to users involved with the case and provide links to important pages or edits.
As a sign of courtesy, also leave a message on the talk page of any involved user.
New account requests
Users will be unable to create an account via the login page until administrators have approved their username.
  1. Edit the New username section.
  2. At the bottom of the section, add a new comment with your desired username and any desired capitalization (e.g. "User:Guild Wars", "User:Guild wars", "User:GuildWars", and "User:Guildwars" will be different accounts). If your desired username starts with a letter, it will be capitalized.
An administrator will get around to adding an exception for your chosen username within a few days.

We generally are checking RC at least daily, so it's not necessary to post here. That said, if something appears and isn't removed in a couple of days, definitely flag it here just in case. Greener (talk) 23:56, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

I'm not Rodan, but thanks for the assumption. You see this user attacks Ips and just assumed one of them as a user. There are people out there who insist that all problems are due to others, and cannot fathom how they themselves could be in the wrong. I don't believe you'll learn from this block I'm giving you, but I'll explain it nonetheless.
Since editing this wiki, you've ranted and raved over matters unrelated to this wiki. You've personally attacked others and then tried to play the victim when they pushed back. You've chosen needless hills to die on and demanded that others care.

They are gate-keeping and preventing the community wiki from improving. Yes I have linked a video which there was no reference to before at all from content I thought would be helpful. I did this in good faith. It seems rather zealous of this user to be making accusations like this. If someone else comes out with some better content, a new video, better quality or whatever I'd welcome it replacing the one I've created. EarlTheGray | contribs 23:29, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
As per below, the proper step should have been a conversation about the topic before bringing it here. Greener (talk) 21:09, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Agree with Earl. Vandalized the Wyn Memorial page, because it has to be "original" and used outdated information than updated information that I and others received in an email as no problem. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).
Yet at no point have you even bothered to discuss the topic in a common sense fashion on the article's talk page.
I work with kids day-in and day-out as part of my actual job, and the amount of immaturity I'm seeing right now is beyond my comprehension. If you're having a problem with something outside of this wiki, don't bring it here; this isn't the place for it. If you wish to discuss someone's edit, don't start with an attack; that's not discussing it. When someone says that you need to stop bothering them because the conversation is not helping, consider for a moment that they might be telling you the truth.
To put it simply and in the most unironic way possible: Grow up. Greener (talk) 17:11, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
1rring edits here. Ignoring that what's posted is not against the wiki as per here. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) at 02:38, 13 May 2023 (UTC).
The content you're trying to link is explicitly in violation of the GW TOS in a plethora of ways and is not applicable to 1RR. If the wiki sysops actually want me to compile a list of reasons why toolbox is not acceptable for the wiki, i'd be glad to do so. It's a botting tool and not even close to the same category of 'third party program' as texmod. Also, regardless of how harmless "GwArmory" is, it is hosted on the same site and is created by the same developer, and as such cannot be linked. horrible 03:04, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
It appears that this issue is a follow-up to this previous discussion. Please bring the conversation there. In the meantime, I'm returning the least contentious of the two mods to that page. Greener (talk) 18:14, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Linking to GwArmory is effectively the same as linking to toolbox. It cannot be separated as they are hosted in the same location - the discord link is directly to toolbox. It cannot be linked to on the wiki for that reason. horrible 18:32, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
repeated violations of GWW:1RR. horrible 16:01, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
Frankly, I'm far too busy at the moment to understand why you purposefully broke a rule you know all about. You're more than capable of self-imposing a block, but if you were wanting one done by an admin, sure. Greener (talk) 15:59, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

I think you're going overboard a bit. THe vids really aren't worth a link but that doesn't constitute vandalism.

Any chance it can be updated so that repeat offenders get blocked once and for all? Take this one here for example: 6th block this month.

Cheers, Steve1 (talk) 18:33, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

I don't know how to set up the Abuse Filter so I can't speak to that, but I've nuked that user and if there are others, feel free to point them out and I'll take care of them as well. My personal preference would be for the Abuse Filter to ramp up the blocks when it is the same user over and over again, maybe every other block stepping up to the next duration level until it hits the infinite level. But again, I have no idea how to set that up or if it is even possible. --Rainith (talk) 21:05, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Not an expert on abusefilter, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to apply scaling punishment automatically. It's just a simple if:then, where you can specify what to deny and the punishment for triggering, but not "longer each time." -Auron 21:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
Alex had looked at this a while back on the gw2w. His solution at the time was to run his own script to identify accounts which had hit against certain filters multiple times. He then went and blocked those accounts. I don't believe that's something we'll be able to automate. Definitely frustrating, but at least the bots are being stopped far more often than not. Greener (talk) 04:48, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

disable account creation[edit]

Howdy, looks like the recent spam wave seems to stem from bots being able to create accounts without being stopped. So how about you guys disable automatic account creation? Real folks interested in accounts need to drop a quick note here and you let that IP create an account. Doable? Steve1 (talk) 20:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

hmmmm… seems like something that could be possible. Ill ask Greener, as he’s got a better handle on this stuff than I do. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 21:03, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
We can ponder doing that again, a la Guild Wars Wiki:Admin noticeboard/Account archive 1. I'll admit to that being a personal annoyance to watch over, but it should remove a bigger general annoyance. Greener (talk) 01:41, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Really I think this is necessary. On any given day it seems like 75%+ of the Recent changes page is spam bots creating accounts and getting blocked. And that's probably a conservative estimate. --Rainith (talk) 18:13, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
